[Q] remove Cell standby - Galaxy Tab General

On the Nook in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888216
user xboxexpert managed to unload the phone tools on the nook and stop the nook from searching for a cell network. Since a few of us are off contract, I'd love to be able to do the same on my Tab. So I tried the same, renaming the files. It didn't work. The Tab ended up in an infinite loop of trying to restart the phone when phone.apk no longer existed. I didn't dare try restarting after renaming it when it was all I could do to get the Tab stable again without infinite app crashes slowing it down.
I like to use a bluetooth keyboard at work and airplane mode disables bluetooth, so no deal there. So does anyone have an idea on how we can disable the wireless network without being in Airplane mode?

I have the same question.... I want to use my tab Wifi only... anyone find a solution?

You can switch WiFi ob when in airplane mode.
Regards,
Dave

is there a permanent solution for it?

You can go into Phone Info via *#*#4636#*#* (or create an Anycut shortcut to Phone Info, under Activites) and switch the radio off there at the bottom of the page.

I suppose if I really want to do this then I need to get the dialer working? It seems kind of roundabout, I'm trying to disable the mobile network and phone options, but in order to do that I need to make it more like a phone first? I say that because I tried Anycut and under Activities there was no "Phone Info" activity. Thanks for the thought Hairy.
This is on a stock rooted T-mobile Tab, that I'm not planning to flash just yet. Maybe when Cyanogen is in a later beta. I'm just not that deep into hacking my devices, and while I appreciate people that do I just have other priorities.

Must be a ROM issue as I'm on JM6 and the Phone Info option is there on Anycut. I went through this myself for the same reasons, so good luck
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

i am also in perma-airplane at home and just having wifi or bluetooth enabled.
works perfectly

Rather presumptuous of you to assume that? You can use Bluetooth too (at least on the ROMs I've used)

Disable automatic data connection

I don't want my phone to connect to 3G or EDGE automatically, I want to manually have to switch some slider or something to avoid getting huge bills. I tried installing "Touch X add 3G commmanager.cab" which in itself seemed to work, but I don't see any extra buttons anywhere...

Go to the settings tab and open "Wireless controls". You should see a new 3G item in there.
I don't... Perhaps because I'm using the Dutch version?

Did you do a restart after installing it? It doesn't automatically do that (or even suggest it), but it does need it.

[Q] Is there an app to disable data for only when needed?

Hi guys,
I'm running a very stable Android build at the moment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
and everything seems to be working almost flawlessly. I think the last thing I'm really looking for is something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
It was the first app I always installed when updating my Windows 6.5 roms and basically what it allowed you to do was set parameters for when your data (3G connection) would remain active i.e you could set it to turn off 3G when the screen turned off or set it to only turn on 3G when apps were syncing etc.... Is there anything similar on Android? All I seem to find are apps that allow you to turn 3G on or off manually. Is there anything that can automate the process like WMLonglife did?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

APNdroid. Sense ROMs should have a toggle built in for you to turn on/off the data.
If your rom is based on CM7, you should use the power widget thats in there.

No Sense for me though. I only use native Android roms. Sense was great for WinMo but I've always liked the Android only experience. Thanks for the tip though.

Hi,
Thanks but, as I said in my OP, I was wondering if there is an app that will do it automatically when needed rather than you having to click data on/off every time you want to disconnect. I beleive UltimateJuice does something like this but I don't beleive it is compatible with Gingerbread yet. Any other ideas anyone?
Thanks
maybe timeout 3g? it disables 3g when screen is off. you can manually set time after 3g is disabled.
If you don't have Gingerbread, try DCSwitch app...
I think it's better than APNDroid.

I haven't been able to get mine to work period. I have disabled and enabled the feature multiple time and I just can't get it to work.....
Use it all the time. Might be an issue with a specific version of the phone or if you have modified it somehow.

I have the T-Mobile version and it worked in the beginning, but now I can't get it to work
A shame since I was just getting used to it and how to gesture it on and off.
This seems to be a Samsung issue rather than a carrier fault.
(mine is unlocked and in use on AT&T)
Would it be advisable to contact Samsung directly?
Go to Settings>Device>Accessibility, and check under "Services". Having apps turned on there can break the one-handed function.
I have NiLS for lockscreen notifications, but it seems to run fine even when the service permission is turned off.

Bingo! Thank You barnabydog!
The good news: It worked! I turned off the offending app and I'm back in business!
The bad news: The offending app was Pebble (smartwatch)
A feature that is more useful to me than the one handed mode . . .
So then is this the sad state of affairs? I have to choose between my Mini-screen mode and my smart watch?
How did you know about this barnabydog?
is there another thread that discusses this issue?
Yes, but I was too lazy to search for it.

When you made this edit did the Advanced Calling options go away in settings?
It's doing that on custom ROM oddly.
But you can still turn off Video Calling in call/settings, but can't get turn AC off completely unless you backtrack the MOD. Was a PITA tracking down what was taking AC away from settings menu and turns out to be this one single edit lol

AC = auto call? I can still turn it off and on without it crashing, but haven't tested if it actually disables if I uncheck it.

AC = Advanced Calling, sorry.
I think misunderstood my question.
So with customs ROMs I have ran into an issue where I lost the Advanced Calling and Tethering options in Settings menu (see attached screenshot). I finally after way too many hours, tracked the problem down to this one MOD (I had to find if it was from an app I was editing, then down to edits in the system, finally found it was in the customize folder and then in ACC/default.xml and even in there took forever as I had many changes). As soon as I make the edit and reboot they are gone, make edit back to stock and they show.
Everything still works fine - in regards to Advanced Calling, HD Calling and Wi-Fi Calling but those settings menu options just aren't there to turn on and off. I can get to an option to turn off Video Calling (see 2nd attached screenshot) which then leaves it into HD Calling state.
What I do as a workaround is keep a default.xml.bak with this MOD removed if I ever need to get into the options for w.e reason and they are only a reboot away.
Not the biggest problem, but very strange indeed. I made the same edit on M8, but M9 as well and never ran into this issue.
I was wondering if you had this issue as well after doing this MOD.

Thanks for the directions on this @andybones - Verizon's constant wifi notification nag drives me nuts.
Just applied this to @santod040's Nougat stock rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...m-1-85-605-9-aroma-root-root-debloat-t3529732) and it appears to continue to behave as you expect: lost the Advanced Calling and Wifi Tethering options out of the Settings menu. I can still get at the tethering via the sub-menu 'Mobile network sharing' as well as the quick settings pane so good to go. Too bad this even has to be a thing. #&$*#&$ Verizon

Very welcome. I know of another method to remove the WiFi Nag and still keep the Menus correctly in Settings. It's actually a method that we used on the M8 if I recall correctly. The current method posted here was what we used on the M9, and strangely had no affect to Settings Menu, even though the M9 also has Advanced Calling. I remember testing this method out a little bit ago on the 10, and all was fine. However to be sure, I am posting a .zip with the edited .apk and a .zip with stock, to go back to stock, and also if anyone wants to see what was done. Simple edits of removing 10 .png images.

Samsung Galaxy S6/S7/S8/Note8 - Adding Missing/Hidden Quick Toggles/Tiles

Due to my own experiences after having purchased many Galaxy devices, I've noticed, Samsung likes to hide toggles.. So I always put my own back in, with adb, or an app. For newer android devices, we need adb.
So on your Galaxy, go to settings>developer options, and enable USB debugging, and Stay awake. (If you don't see developer options, go into 'About phone', and tap on 'Build Number' 7+ times until achieved.
Plug your phone into your computer, and make sure it's drivers are installed and the phone is coming up properly.
Download the ADB files, on your PC, here in a .Zip or a Folder
Then, open up an Admin CMD, (if you don't know how, GOOGLE.) Then, open up the directory of the ADB folder in the cmd.
Example, on my computer, I left the folder in downloads, so I type into the cmd cd c:\users/Jae/downloads/platform-tools Example
Type adb devices into the cmd. (Make sure only one phone is attached) If you see your phone, (random looking numbers & letters) good. If it says 'unauthorized' check the phone and make sure tap allow, if you don't see anything.. detach it & reattach, and type in adb devices again. When it says 'device', you're good. Go to the next step.
Type adb shell and at this point, you should be looking like This.. If you do, copy and paste this settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles
Once it loads, copy what came up by highlighting like this, and then use ctrl+v . Yours will be/look different, depending on your toggles. Paste it into a text file, or whatever.
Then copy settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles and paste it in front of all of that, then put ' in front of the first toggle, and after the last toggle. Like this, 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth' < JUST AN EXAMPLE
This is where you add in your missing toggles, using only commas to separate, no spaces.. Most commonly desired MobileData. There's more, if wanted. So, for example, if you start with 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth'
You should finish with 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth,MobileData,WifiHotspot' or any order you like. (MAKE SURE NO SPACES IN BETWEEN ANY TOGGLES. ONLY COMMAS.)
Should be looking like THIS!! then, copy it so it looks just like in the last screenshot. Simply right click in the cmd, and hit enter..
If you get a syntax error, you did something wrong. Like leaving out the ' at the beginning, and ' at the end of the toggles, or spaces somewhere other than the command.
If you have no errors, check your Quick Toggles for the newly added ones. Should be there, no restart necessary or anything.
If successful, congrats. If not, I can help. Just ask. (don't ask about anything other than the topic, PLEASE..)
As of December 30th, 2019, this still works just fine. HOWEVER on newer android updates, 'MobileHotspot' has been renamed to JUST 'Hotspot' . So if you're not seeing the icon after applying this fix, this is probably why. Try with Hotspot instead of MobileHotspot.
Thanks for the solution, finally I added mobile data icon!

Hey there! This worked great prior to the update I just did last week. I wanted to get the wifihotspot to be the first icon when i dropped the quick toggle menu down, instead of rifling through Settings, Connections, Mobile Hotspot and tethering, then finally able to switch it on. Now when I put wifihotspot in the command line you posted, it just stays at the default. It's as though they may have changed the name of the wifihotspot toggle to something else. Any idea? My phone is a S7, Android 8.0.0, Samsung Experience version 9.0, Baseband version G930W8VLU3CRE3. A lot more software info but hopefully that's enough. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, I have the same problem with MobileData. Even though I add it to the list, the tile doesn't seem to appear...
Any idea on the new name if it even exist anymore?
So, would I be able to add the DeX software toggle thats on the galaxy tab s4? this would be the best.
Best answer all the times
I have been looking for this solution nearly a year! And thank you really, thank you too much. I m glad.
AWESOME! Added "HotSpot" to my Rogers Galaxy S8+ in Canada. Thanks so much!
Question
I have small question. Is there a way to stop asking "Turn off mobile data" question?
I mean for example mobile data on. And when you touch toggle it asks "Mobile Data unless.. bla bla do you want to turn off mobile data?" I just want to change it as without any question.
Thank you
I was able to add "Hotspot" toggle to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

Unfortunately, installing other software isn't as simple as this TileCode fix.
You should search other XDA threads for that. And beware, read EVERYTHING before trying to apply anything!
