Any interested developers?? - Flipside General

after laxidian's quite of developing flipside, are there any other developers interested in that?? any developer can make us a good update??
Sent from my MB508 using xda app-developers app

I'd be surprised if there is ever any real development for the FLIPSIDE. I got that phone about 3 years ago and there was nothing until after I had another phone. I still use the flipside as an mp3 player at my job, but nothing else. I have almost completely re themed and deblurred the stock rom because the roms posted here are buggy and incomplete. I'd say your best bet is to do the same. Here's a few screenshots of what I've done so far.
I didn't have anything clever to say here.

Video ROM Overviews

I was thinking of putting together some quick video previews of the major custom ROMs floating around. Any requests as to which ones you'd like to see or think would be good to demo? It will mostly be a quick look at what each system looks like after a fresh flash, UI, menus, features of each ROM, what have you. Any input greatly appreciated!
I like this idea. Personally, I'd like too see UI overviews, a breakdown of what's been added removed, and a benchmark of some sort. (Yeah, I know, basically everything you mentioned).

Dash from SPJ does a lot of ROM reviews for the EVO as well as the HTC Touch I think.

um... all the ROMs do basically the same and almost all of them are on the stock rosie. You can see what's different in each ROM just by reading the ROMs initial thread.
this would be a waste of time

I disagree. I'm new to the evo, and to android in general. The custom rom threads frequently seem to assume you are already familiar with the rom. I've seen a lot of changelogs, that explain what is new since the last version, but that doesn't help if I've never run the previous version.
I'm currently running fresh, mostly because I had no idea which one to pick. It's been working great, so I'm in no hurry to switch, but I am wondering what I might be missing with another rom.
I think this is a great idea. With the recent news about record android sales, there will be a lot of folks coming to the evo without previous android experience. This series of videos will help them a lot.

Then I'll get started today! First on the block will be stock, Fresh 3, and CM6.
Infamousjax, you don't have to watch them.
Me neither....good newbie thread tho
Good idea, as a newbie ill definitely watch. Is bugless beast going to to be featured?
If you request it, I'll flash it.

I think bugless gave up on the evo due to ungreatful users

One day to play

My friend is giving me his hd2 tomorrow to flash android on, unfortunately I haven't done My research and have just one day......
So my question is what stable, feature filled desert should I let him taste? And who is the chef?
Please, post links and detail why _________ is the best ROM build?
If I get plenty of posts I will try to update regularly to show noobs what they want to hear.
And in anticipation, THANKS!!!!!

like the post above said. read. there isn't a best rom out there. just pick one that fits your/your friend's needs. personally i use UD 3.0.1.
Thanks matt, personally I like cyanogenmod the best, but I have xperia x10.... the main point of me asking is because I don't have time to research... since I'm xperia I don't know how to do nandroid so I have to learn that tonight. What I would like to know is which one is extremely stable, or are they all?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
No one is going to just hand you the answer. Seriously, it will take you all of 2 or 3 hours to research what you need to know.
There is no perfect build. You are talking about an OS that was never meant to run on the HD2 running on said phone. There is always going to be something wrong or unstable about a build. It's a matter of what you can live with. So there is no true answer to your question. You'll have to pick which one you think will have the least amount of problems and cross your fingers. You might just have to keep researching even after you get his phone flashed because I'm sure you'll have to do it again.
Or you could just teach him how to do it himself because he will have to keep up on which ever build to get the latest fixes.
There are several Builds, i prefer smal ones without pre installed software.
Typhoon or so. Its fast smooth and stable. Well my dad owns a Desire HD not rooted and there is a lot of rubbish on it.
So i think you have to read the threads wich personaly fits to your friend.

Fully COMPLETE Roms discussion....

Ok I really disappointed in the Xperia x10 development section.
The only usable Roms are based on 2.1. Now these roms are fantastic. Really do the job well and I would class them as fully operational.
Now the other threads based on 2.2,2.3,MIUI etc are indeed under development. Some excellent work going on and if the 3 Musketeers could only project manage then Im sure a full working rom would be achieved.
So really Im wondering why XDA does not have a full working rom section that allows noobs like myself to go to to download knowing its a fully tested working rom?
Now before the fanboys jump all over me I would state that I am a donator to worthwhile causes and development but seriously the roms released so far can in no way be advertised as stable enough for daily use. It is a phone after all....eg. In one prominent thread today a developer is congratulated for releasing a rom that cannot make a telephone call.......Yesterday one was congratulated for an update that doesnt allow the phone to even switch on!
I do notice in the majority of other areas of XDA there are plenty of full working roms for other devices. Im fully aware that SE's security on this device has so far made it impossible to cook a newer version of android without using old parts.
So perhaps the x10 forum sections do indeed need an area for full working roms. Id presume the developers would also like this so they can transfer there work to it when completed and in return be suitable rewarded for there efforts.
Your thoughts?
I'm releasing a gingerbread rom today with everything working! Oh hai jk guise nothing works lulz
On a serious note, free x10 has been great to me..only issue is camcorder, but it is otherwise perfect

Thanks for your reply. I did indeed try this ROM but I was getting way to many errors in my day to day use for it to be considered stable for daily use. I was also not keen on the support from developer. I believe he has been MIA now for a considerable time....
I do fully understand though that without that developer I would not have been able to do the majority of things I have done to my phone....Hopefully this ROM will one day be Fully working and can be classified as such...
Weird I have not had a single issue... I use my phone a lot too.
I've been using wolfbreaks 2.2.1 CM6.1.3 for about ten days and it's stable. No stock videocam but flash & apps2sd more than make up for it. Very quick and aesthetically pleasing.

Again tried and far from stable! Perhaps though that is where the issues arise....One mans stable is another mans manic!
My version of stable is a ROM that allows me to use all my hardware functions and reports no errors.....Just like stock....
Ever think maybe it's you? I've been keeping up with the free x10 thread and most people don't report errors other than the camcorder..
non working camera and videocam is a deal breaker for me, therefore still sticking with official.

No I am experienced enough thanks to this site to dowload the rom and install. If you cant see the other reports of errors in that thread then perhaps it is me and I need my eyes tested....
Battery drainage?
Screen responsiveness?
Dropping 3g connection?
To name but 3......
Anyhow going slightly off topic when really the point is too see if anyone else thinks a section for fully working roms would be helpful?

If thats the one on V4....then i agree its really good. Besides no video recording it has been awesome. Probably my fav rom higher than 2.1.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I think it's a great idea, but it will be difficult because of the word "fully worked/stable" (what for one person is stable is not for another)
Sure you could put that section in but don't expect to see a single rom that is 2.2+ in there. I realistically as much as i hope I'm wrong don't expect to ever see one in there. This phone is pretty much at the end of it's run now and the bootloader is still locked with no intention from SE to unlock it due to certain copyrighted materials and the such. Sad but a fact i think we all need to start facing.
I almost think we're at the point where there is very little more that can be done other than variations of the same roms already available.
Please do not take this as a shot at the devs as i have much respect for the work they do and without them my phone wouldn't be half what it is today. But in my opinion its time to stop wishing and hoping for things that just aren't in the cards with this particular piece of hardware.
did you come here just to complain? atleast they are making something and wasting thier time for us stop moaning and if your unhappy then dont flash the roms otherwise be happy with what you get.

These kind of bugs are always reported about OFFICIAL ROMs also Just read every thread after every update from SE etc
I'm using [MOD][rendeiro2005]Cyanogen6.1.3_v01 (CM-updated) for many weeks now for my daily use... Working awesome... Camera works, just video-recording doesn't work properly... This is the only issue... ROM works like a charm

The FreeX10 (beta4) is still 2.2.1 (I'm using it as we speak, very stable, I can't complain). The only 2.3 ROM I've seen discussed for the SE Xperia x10 is Cyanogen CM7.0 RC1 v005 Gingerbread 2.3.3, which --based on current thread discussion, I haven't tried it myself-- appears to be very unstable at this time.
If there's another 2.3 ROM for the X10 circulating the forums, I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't really looked through the entire thread.
great
I like what this was supposed to become but not what it s actually.
I'm also a new x10 user, I come from htc desire (z). and I was happy to see that it was far more easy to root the x10i and remove the root when the phone has to go for reparation.
It was not my intention to come and play with different roms, but deu to a wrong installation of a theme I had to instal a custom rom. Now, I like the stock X10 interface. so I'm looking for roms who runs better as the stock rom but look more or less the same...
any suggestions?

Not true. I don't have those issues, and neither does Eternity, Blue Sparks, etc.
I think this is a good idea, but in practice would fail. There are FAR too few "fully functional" ROMs to warrant a separate forum. Maybe we should just start using [STABLE] tags or something.
There would seriously be like 5 legit posts in that forum, and then it would get filled up with crap till it's unusable.
for u, i think the stock rom and the JIT mod will do it for u if u like the stock rom =)

Do any atrix roms that are out run vanilla android?

I'm looking for a rom that runs basically vanilla android? does anyone know of any that are completed? essentially, the slowness of blur it's what I'm trying to get rid of.

Is this your sneaky way of asking if cyanogenmod is completed yet?

Not at all. I know there are a bunch of roms out there now, and didn't know much about them. So I was just wondering if any run vanilla android.

Nope. Cyanogen is closest we'll get. Atrix didn't come with stock and source was recently released.

well your best bet to learn about them... is to read about them. every ROM has a huge list of features and screenshots. do the homework and make your choice that way.
This thread I believe has all but one of the ROMs available for the Atrix listed in it if you scroll down, it's near the bottom, then you can go through each thread, look at screen shots, requirements to flash, etc. When I was trying to decide which ROM to flash first I used this thread as a guide, kept it open in one tab and opened the threads for each individual ROM in another tab.

I'd say flash Alien ROM along with the Alien theme. But, that's just my thinking. Good luck in your research.

Congratulations on an effective thread-crap.
OP: Alien seems pretty good to me. Snappier than stock, been stable for me... I am personally waiting for a touch more polish before putting CM7 on my daily driver.

I agree that Alien is a great ROM (I'm using it), but it's not a Vanilla ROM as the OP has asked for, and it's not as de-blurred as, say, Ninja or something. I dunno how usable Ninja is now, as Sam had to temporarily leave it for CM work...
@OP, you could surely flash the CM7 pre-beta, as it's quite stable. The only major thing that doesn't work as of now is the Camera, I believe...

Quick update from HCDRJacob (You remember me, right?)

Where I currently stand on the Huawei U8800:
So, I first got the U8800 a good number of months ago. I loved the device and started working on it straight away, made some good progress. Then I got lower AS Level results than I was hoping for. And my parents decided to split up. So basically, I needed to work harder at school, and my life was kind of a bit more hectic. I have still been working on the U8800, and I almost got CM7 finished. The only issue was that I had no camera preview (I was building libcamera from source rather than using prebuilt libs). A lot of hard work was put into it, and I can't take all the credit. Tom Giordano (Tom_G), bukington, dzo and stockwell were all helpful through the process (although contrary to popular belief I didn't just copy dzo and stockwell, I implemented things in different ways which I thought were cleaner). I respect all of the other developers despite any misunderstandings in the past. This brings me to where I stand today.
For the last few months, I've still been working on CM7 when I've had time to try and get it ready for 7.2, although that hasn't been often. Trying to fix the camera preview proved to be quite a hard process that resulted in me wanting to kill the phone on several occasions. I never succeeded. While I was doing this, Tom_G was working on CM9 for the ZTE Blade and bukington has been doing some great work on CM9 for the U8800. I've now realised that the port won't be ready for 7.2 and I am therefore abandoning it. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AM ABANDONING THE U8800 OR CYANOGENMOD FOR IT. I am going to focus my efforts on working with bukington to get CM9 working on it. He has already done a lot of the work and it's looking promising. I will spend as much time as I can on it, but I need quite high grades to get to the University I want to be in, so I am aware that most of my time will still have to be devoted to school.
I am sorry to anyone who I have disappointed with this device, but time really isn't something I've had a lot of in the past 6 or 7 months.

I don't know what the problem even is. I'd love to help with it but I'd rather focus on ICS work than kernels for gingerbread. My time is limited now unfortunately.
