Updated Dec 19 - Jelly bean for N8010 LG4 owners coming on Dec 27 - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

I had complained to Samsung about the S-Note PDF import problem (it crashes when attempting to import any PDF) and my contact told me that they have uploaded "for Kies a new version of your OS with the pdf issue fixed. You should have access to it very soon if not already). I just plugged the Note into Kies but nothing's updated yet but hopefully it should be there soon enough.
Note that he said "a new version of your OS". I had previously told him that I'm on build IMM76D.N8010XWALG4 of Android 4.0.4 so we're probably just getting the fixed ICS version and not Jelly Bean. If I recall correctly the fixed build is IMM76D.N8010XWALI4 or something.
Update Dec 8 2012:
Got another text from my contact!
He says that the "Jelly Bean version GT-N8010 EUR OPEN 4.1.2 Maintenance Release (LG4 -> LI4)" is in the process of final verification at Samsung's India R&D cetner. He hasn't given me a timeframe but he'll let me know as soon as it's posted to Kies.
My only concern is that everything directly quoted has a bunch of contradictions in it, lol. First, as far as I can tell, "maintenance release" doesn't usually refer to going from one android version to another, but rather an update within the existing version. However, he specifically calls it Jelly Bean version of N8010 4.1.2. Lastly, LG4, and LI4 are the last three digits of most ICS / 4.0.4 CSC or PDA numbers, and not for Jelly Bean. So really what's going on? Heh. Time will tell.
Update Dec 19:
Got another text from Samsung customer support and here it is verbatim:
"LI4 Jelly Bean OS for your tablet will be released in Canada Dec 27th and will be available through Kies at that time."
So if your firmware is xwalg4 then you're getting jelly bean on Dec 27!

that would be awsome!

Kies is updating itself right now! Coincidence??
Edit: Aaaand nothing for the Note itself

Not entirely sure what this update is supposed to fix aside from this PDF import problem you have. Would much rather have the JB update, but this would be a start I guess.
Kind of a random question, but what does Canada fall under on Sammobile? We aren't listed in their firmware section.

Yep, sammobile doesn't have anything for Canada.

Indonesian Owner, wait for Dec 15, as Samsung told KOMPAS Daily in a press release. Update can be done via OTA or via Samsung Service Center. Suppose Samsung Canada can issue a press release as well.
See:
Code:
http ://tekno.kompas.com/read/xml/2012/12/02/08594361/Siap-siap..Galaxy.Note.10.1.Bakal.Disuguhi.Jelly.Bean
It's in Indonesian Language, but there's always Google Translate if you need it.

Hi, any more updates from the Canadian side? When the hell are we getting JB? im looking to buy my first tablet for christmas and deciding between n10 and note 10.1..looking for a good door crasher event on boxing day lol..but hope note 10.1 gets jelly bean soon

It's going to get something I just don't know what! First post updated with new info Dec 8.

Can you give us some clarification on what you mean by "my contact". At first I thought you meant Samsung customer service or just some employee, but I'm not sure anymore.

I guess you could say he's customer support, but not the regular one because he called me after I sent my complaint to Samsung Canada CEO's office from their support page. I only did that after exhausting 'regular' customer support.

Updated again! Dec 27 it is!

I am not sure of that deadline because of the exploit they would be working on patching that first and then releasing the roms after so I feel everything will get delayed and it will depend is how easy it will be to get the patch out.
You need to remember the exy 4 processor device base is around 40 million n it becomes even a bigger issue when everyone know that how easy it is to hack.
So I think Samsung would be spending all developement on this

great news! now i hope thats true,,i will probably be picking mine up on boxing day in canada so would love to have a jelly bean update the next day!

I for sure believe that deadline will not be met as the next market where note will be release will be europe, then asia n then us the fact is it has not gone beyond germany and even note 8000 has not reached asia

Italy doesn't have the update yet, as US. Do anyone have some news about the release date for Italy?

Since the fix isn't ROM dependent they could send a patch out via Samsung Apps or Play also. That would be more efficient since they don't have the resources to update the ROMs individually on that many devices at the same time.
Here's their statement....
Samsung is aware of the potential security issue related to the Exynos processor and plans to provide a software update to address it as quickly as possible. The issue may arise only when a malicious application is operated on the affected devices; however, this does not affect most devices operating credible and authenticated applications. Samsung will continue to closely monitor the situation until the software fix has been made available to all affected mobile devices.

Well you do not know what would it be required to patch it up as the patch we have is temp and not permanent they will have to rewrite the kernel in someway I guess and that will have implications how deep they are will decide how they bring out the patch.
This is not a OS flaw but a kernel flaw so it is a very serious issue.

I guess. Based on how I use my device(s) I'm not particularly worried about it. I don't visit sleazy websites, accept certificates for sites I don't know are reputable, and don't install no-name apps with few downloads. It's not as if some malicious code is going to find your device passively; you'll have to be the one to put your device in jeopardy proactively. I'd suggest people block "Unknown sources" in settings and set the "Show security warnings" in the browser.

Well even chainfire mentions its not the full patch but just a workaround and it screws up the camera which may not be important for note 10.1 owner but is to S3 and Note 2
Well after people know about this patch many would try to screw up the device just for fun, there are many who are newbies who can be targeted

I too am not sure they'll release an update in Canada on that date, but I really hope they do. It's a perfect time to do so too. Shortly after Christmas where some might get it as a present & right after boxing day where people will get it on sale.

From Engadget: Samsung comes clean with Galaxy S Froyo upgrade dates, in November

I see there's a lot of froyo update thread here, but this article is pretty new, so I guess I'd share it with you guys. (If the moderators deem this thread unnecessary, please , by all means, delete it). Anyways, here's the news:
The Android 2.2 upgrade situation on the Galaxy S has been a veritable rollercoaster of emotions for owners recently, owing in no small part to the seemingly final firmwares that have been briefly posted and pulled from the company's servers in parts of the world over the past couple weeks. Nordic countries have already sample the goods, but Sammy says that a "new" firmware update will be available in early November in the UK and should hit "all operator versions" of the phone (presumably including the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, and Fascinate) by the end of November. YouMobile is reporting that existing regional updates have been pulled due to general not-awesomeness, so hopefully they'll have a chance to get it right over the next couple weeks before it starts hitting again. Follow the break for Samsung's press release. (open the page to see Samsung's press release, click the link below) I'll just go ahead and paste the Press Release here:
New Android 2.2 Upgrade Announced for Samsung Galaxy S
Latest Platform upgrade provides enhanced experience on the go
LONDON , UK – October 21, 2010 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today announces the Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S, giving users access to new features, enhanced navigation applications and improved, faster performance.
The super-slim Galaxy S is an award winning ultra-lightweight large screen Android smartphone. The Galaxy S features an incredible 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a super-fast 1 GHz application processor, for an intelligent, immersive and integrated mobile experience. The Samsung Galaxy S has led the Android smartphone market since its UK launch this summer.
The Android 2.2 upgrade enhances the great experience of the Galaxy S, making even more of the processor speed, and the exclusive Super AMOLED screen.
The key benefits include:
Improved browser performance: enhances browsing, navigation and the 'pinch and zoom' feature
Enhanced user interface adding vivid colours and features to the android menu structure
Google Maps with Navigation: A GPS navigation system with voice guidance for a turn-by-turn navigation
Adobe Flash Player 10.1: the latest Flash Player for viewing video content
Enhanced user experience including message editing and the ability to save applications to memory card
Search in-browser: Google™, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary
Getting the upgrade
The Android 2.2 upgrade, will be available via Kies, Samsung's in-house software upgrade programme. Samsung has developed a brand new version of Kies which will be issued to make the upgrade experience as smooth as possible. The new version of Kies will be downloadable from www.samsungmobile.co.uk
Samsung will also be publishing video tutorials on how to upgrade, providing a step-by-step guide to the simple download process.
The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland, comments; 'Samsung are committed to providing our customers with the best possible mobile experience, and this upgrade enhances the incredible features of the Galaxy S handset. We also want the upgrade process to be simple and hassle-free for customers, hence the new version of our Kies software and the step-by-step video guides.'

This fully backs my other post as to Samsung coming with new improved firmware in november. And also to those nordic countries, which i feel sorry for as nordic = testing/beta, before real stuff goes out (correct me if im wrong)
Well soon as i see that link pop up for UK i will DL it just incase it gets pulled lol, and of course deliver it to xad
RUSH!!!!!!!! two weeks to go imo
Let's just hope they do it right this time.
I don't mind the waiting, even if it comes out at the end of december,
as long as it's a quality release.

I fully agree with this, along with many that a good percentage of sgs owners have had a taste of froyo in many forms. But we would like samsung to take there time this time and just get it right.... for themselves and from a business point of view and DELIVER THE GOODS!!!!

The nordic firmware is really crappy so yes you can call it a beta version. It is not very good. But when the real thing is rolling out. How will i be able to get it? Reg hack?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You'd better be able to store a post code (a-z,0-9) OR zip code in contacts, not just zip codes (0-9) by then.
I don't trust it. I think we will get Froyo in 2011.
just as my original prediction goes
"Just in time for Xmas!"

Hmmmm, shame they couldn't get it right the first time! I'll give Sammy one more chance, but they better pull something special out of their hat!
Yup, really really special
ive got froyo with kies hack but all these delays are bull if you look at the galaxy k or the tab what are the running and getting released with froyo...the galaxy k is the same as the galaxy s but a smaller screen

Because the other firmwares have not been of beta standard? Just have a look at the 2.2 release status without reg. hack thread where you see all the latest releases on each country. Some are stuck in early 2.1 firmware. I rather have a beta 2.2 with all the goodies than a beta 2.1.
For the rest I agree to a degree. I doubt the november firmwares will be that good. I mean that's what people say all the time, "it's worth the wait". No it's not since we currently are on beta software with 2.1 and the wait will only bring a slightly less bad beta-level firmware.

Hi, can someone tell me what was wrong with the Nordic froyo firmware?
I did the registry hack and was able to get it through Kies. I am not noticing any bugs other than the weak GPS (Which I always had no matter what firmware I was running.)
Other than the GPS which is normally defective are there specific bugs with the Nordic version?
Nordic froyo version runs great for me, super fast!
thanks

As I have already mentioned in previous post. Merry X'Mas and perhaps a Happy New Year.
This is like the 3rd delay from official sources? I'm getting frustrated about it.
It's like you are waiting for a friend who told you he'll be there in 10min and he arrives 1 hour later. Again. And again.
Now, I don't mind to wait longer for a polished and bug free firmware, but I do mind this postponing thing.

Ive come to expect nothing but this from Samsung.
(My first and last Samsung phone, for many other reasons)
I've already installed the beta nordic froyo 2.2. Does this mean i have to flash and erase all my data if i want to go to "official" froyo 2.2 ?
I'm using the Nordic JP6 firmware installed through Kies and the only real issue I have is with performance. Even with the Voodoo fix there is still noticeable lag in many applications (mainly built in Samsung ones) and the Browser is appalling performance wise, sometimes it lags for several seconds before scrolling.

ics scheduled for late July

http://www.gforgames.com/gadgets/sa...dwich-release-date-telus-android-4-ics-21123/
Well at least now I have a time frame for how long to not care.
That Site says the update is available for select devices in Canada. No one has found it yet?
Please note that this is in no way an official statement. It is as official as the statement saying that it would be updated in Canada in late april.
So please take this as a possibility, not a "fact" nor a promise!
I had posted about that TELUS information in another thread a few days ago. TELUS has been maintaining that PDF for quite a while and I believe it originally said mid-June.
The distressing part of it is the fact that it says Samsung has yet to provide the software for TELUS to even begin their regression testing.
This suggests to me that Samsung is even further behind schedule on this than they have let on... and makes me wonder if there isn't some significant hardware issue that prevents some of the new camera frameworks in ICS from being implemented properly on the 10.1.
You could be correct.
However, I believe it has more to do with the recent release of the gtab2. People will be less likely to upgrade to a gtab2 if the gtab has ics.
The community might have skewed our faith in getting a working camera based on the reaction one gets if one asks if the camera works on any ics rom.

I still think that the GTab2 is not an upgrade... But Samsung needs to bring out something new, and hopes it creates the 'iSheeple' effect on Sammy users -NOT!
Everybody is waiting for the working camera under ICS, and until then quite a few people (and that includes me) will wait before jumping into a good and very enjoyable alternative ROM...
I love ICS as i have a gnex but i wont ever upgrade to ICS My Tab until everything works(if it ever does) i dont use the camera oftem but i need all My stuff period ..

Official Jelly Bean 4.1 Update in India Rolled Back

Samsung India has confirmed that the Jelly Beam update for Galaxy S III is no longer rolling out in India. The update reportedly contained bugs and was creating issues for those already updated, thus Samsung has stopped the update.
Company is currently looking into this and is likely to release a fixed update soon.
Samsung had originally started the Android 4.1 OTA update around two weeks ago.

To anyone thinking about buying the Galaxy S3 or any other samsung device for that matter, please don't. Samsung's headed the Apple way, and we all know Apple sucks major d**k. Samsung also hasn't release the souce code for the Exynos, resulting in no stable aosp roms for the international version.

Exactly. While Samsung Exynos aren't as dev friendly as Qualcomm , etc, atleast they are way ahead of most other Manufacturers when it comes to updating our phones or atleast giving enough leaks.

So you're moaning because they pulled a defective update, and because of that you'll never buy a Samsung phone again? I think the sooner you do that the better for everyone.

Anticipating the next s3 update...

What do you think the next s3 update will be? 4.2? 4.2.1? 5.0?
What new tw features do you think or hope it will bring?
When do you think it will come?
I don't mind if they skip on 4.2.x to concentrate on the next bomb they might drop (4.3/5.0) and as far as new tw features I'd like more social, like windows phone style baking in of Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Google plus, path, viber etc, they could make some deals and take it to the next level.
Saying that, i am more than happy with 4.1.2 with nova 2 prime, phone is sick, fast and smooth!
Sent via second class post, so I don't expect you to read this for at least a few weeks.
a 4.2 update would be easy for them, its a small upgrade in terms of what we're use to, So I don't think Google will announce another Android version until Google I/O which is in July I think so being Samsung I believe this 4.2 update will be in August and the 4.3/5.0 released in November lol.
No but really they should release the 4.2 update, they won't skip it.
Somewhere I read that 4.2 will be released... don't remember where, so they won't be skipping it
Im sure next update from android will be 5.0
Hope it's not 4.2 rather 4.2.1 as there been alot of problems with 4.2, which they quickly updated on Nexus smartphones and Tabs.
Tbh i be very surprised if we see 5.0 on the international Galaxy S3 due to it only having 1gb of ram, if 5.0 does come it more likely be for the LTE & Note II as 5.0 is rumored to need 2gb of ram.
The Galaxy S4 & Note III on the otherhand, will 100% get 5.0 update sometime this year

I still believe they will do an update this January (or February at most) with their own fix for the /dev/exynos-mem security hole And if they are able to use 4.2.1 with it then it will be a lot better for us - but I am not holding my breath
i think there'll be a 5.0 and we'll be on it with custom roms when 4.2.1 hits

Update Signs?

First off let me say I Do Not intend for this to be another whine thread....
Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had any signs of an update. I recall from one of the previous now closed threads started one user mentioned the 5th as being a possible date. Though seemingly arbitrary date the 5th is here.
People chime in if you get the notification!
Nothing for me yet.
It probably won't come out until the new Google phones do. I know it's difficult for flashaholics, but be patient.
Now I'm waiting for the September security update for Marshmallow, maybe it will be late too. They seem to be in a huge work.
This thread is the best sign.

This is the only sign from Google I have seen.
Absolutely notting here. Not even the sept security update.
There will be a September in 2017,too
If I'm remembering the same post, a user speculated that the update would be tied to the September monthly security update. That seemed like pure speculation. I hope the updates are posted soon but I don't think today will be the day, since it is already the afternoon and a business holiday. Hope I'm wrong!

Yeah Im ready for the official build too, this NPD90G preview wants me to want more, or at least some minor fixes.
No updates.............there will be speculations.
No speculations.....probably updates.
From what I've heard Qualcomm needs to do some driver upgrades for full Android N Support. If that is the case, it would explain why Google hasn't released the update yet, they simply can't until Qualcomm delivers. I can imagine Qualcomm has their hands full at the moment with all the smartphone companies out their requesting driver updates to support Android N as well.
I don't have any references for this, as I read it in a post somewhere but don't remember where. Don't take my word for it. But of course it would be interesting if someone could confirm or deny this.
I don't expect the update any time soon, but at least the latest beta runs very smoothly on my device. Can't complain at the moment.
Thats what has confused me DP5 runs well so id have thought it was near release quality but I guess not with the update taking so long. As far as qualcomm surely google should be the highest priority for drivers/updates given that they build the entire base that all other android phones base off? So an N driver for a specific SoC should work for all devices using that SoC?
I'm pretty satisfied with the Uber N ROM as is.
What @onemandivision said is correct, driver updates are critical. It's not just the kernel and the android base.
I'm a little confused by the delay though since it is already clear that phones on chips older than snapdragon 800/801 won't get nougat (ie 65-70% of all android phones according to some surveys), so there should be very few drivers to update/fine tune? Am I wrong?
