I doubt this phone will be any different. Is it a great idea? Of course it is. On paper anyways. However, no one wants to invest in the R&D for something like this. I suppose someone could form a start up project like the guy starting one for the MicroSD > MicroUSB adapter in the other thread. But unless you are going to going to be the one to do it, don't hold your breath.

I'm actually thinking of trying to make something like this if I end up getting this phone. Fixed battery and storage absolutely kills me. The problem is that the phone is already so long, and I don't know how I'd feel about a protrusion on the bottom (or a protrusion at all for the matter..).
Beyond storage via USBOTG, I'd be tempted to add a battery into the case as well. I suppose getting it to hold together may be tough. If I actually get serious about it, the back cover may come off, and something custom will get screwed on in its place. Then I might even be able to tap into usb internally, with an additional microusb port and toggle switch on the new back cover.
All dreaming at this point though, but something I've been thinking about for a while. Maybe with a new phone, I'd have a bit more motivation.
Although for something as "simple" as just a microsd usb card reader, there looks to be some decently thin ones out there: http://dx.com/p/ultra-slim-micro-sd-transflash-usb-card-reader-color-assorted-7106 for example
could probably gut that and cram it in some generic cases. Or of course just use a small usb drive, but for me, it's more the idea of having my data on a fairly universal media (microsd..) that I could pop in a different device easily
Plus, I have no experience with USBOTG, so I'm curious about any extra power draw -- say if it prevents deep sleep?

[Q] Getting a refurbished Evo tomorrow - what to look for?

I'm swapping my damaged Evo, tomorrow, for a refurbished model. The screen on mine is damaged, so I called the store and told them I heard they'd replace the screen for free if I had TEP (which I do). They don't have any screens, but asked me to bring it in anyways...they looked it over and said they'd replace it for free. The "new" phone is supposed to be here tomorrow. Now, having heard some of the horror stories, I told them I'd want to look it over first...anything in particular I should look for, outside of light leakage? I've had no problems with my phone, and I'd rather replace the screen myself, if the alternative is getting a refurb that I'm not going to be happy with.
Stick the USB in and wiggle it to make sure it isn't loose. Make sure power button is not cracked or the camera lens. That's about all I'd check for.
Make sure it had a good battery.. Sprint has a habit of sending bad ones with their exchanges

How exactly would you do that?
Make sure it is a 003/004, not a 002 HW Revision.
Check for cracks on power/volume rocker.
Test 4G if possible to make sure RSA key is not busted.
Ask sprint to test the battery at the store..

lol beat me to it, i was about to say.
Things to check for, tech should do it first but better safe than sorry,
1)microphone
2)earpiece
3)speakerphone
4)GPS/4G
^^ most common issues I see with exchanges, if it doesn't get reported as being damaged when they send it in.... it doesn't get fixed.
id check for:
-flash+camera is working
-speaker working and not busted!!!
-power button is not cracked
-mic is working
-all the functions on the phone works. (gps, 4G!!!!!!, haptic feedback, screen sensitivity etc...)

Techs don't test DHRPs. UPS drops them off, they scan them into inventory, they go in the cabinets and they don't come back out until they're needed. It's rare for the phone to even see the light of day until it's being swapped onto an account.

^^^^^ This.
Thanks, everybody. I'm going to be a little paranoid about this phone, even if it works fine, for at least a couple of weeks. I really wish they'd just swap out the screen, but oh well...
Thanks again!
Im on my second replaced furbed phone. My ORIGINAL phone the haptick feedback stopped, then the first furbed it wouldnt allow me to download apps, and havent Tested the new one yet since i was waiting for my Zagg shield. So we will see how this one does. LOL
Picked up the refurb earlier today, and so far so good. No light leak, the mic, speakers, camera, and everything else works as it should. I'll give it a couple more days, to make sure all is as it should be, then I'll root it.
Nice to have a screen that works again!

Official Docks for Defy?

Anyone tried putting a magnet next to the back of their Defy?
I have this leather case for an old XDA I used to have, which has a magnet built in to clasp the strap closed.
When I put the defy in, it came up with a multimedia dock interface!
Also, putting the magnet at another point puts it into the car windscreen dock interface.
I looked on the Motorola website for the accessories, but they list the milestone multimedia/windscreen docks under the Defy accessories.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Milestone's usb port is in the wrong place to fit?
Yes, the milestone won't fit. I'm waiting for a desk-stand, too

Problem is, it'll switch into car mode every time you use that...
magnet polarity
Turn the polarity of magnet!
If you put the magnet same place like in the car mount (behind of the menu button), but with reversed polarity. The phone runs the media home instead of car home.
I understand that's how it works.
Thing is, how easy is to to get to the magnet?
Are you likely to end up ruining or breaking the dock whilst trying to remove and reinsert it?
If you don't want the magnet to work, can't you put the phone in upside down? Most of my apps work fine inverted. I realize that puts the usb on top...
I just bought a cheap mount from China on eBay now. No magnet

Then i'd have to say that doing so probably wasn't a GOOD idea to begin with. And it says to "remove and resolder" it... which does not look like it's in a place where it would be easy for anybody to do at home. Nice, though, how he doesn't SHOW that in his video. Just kinda shows him removing one side of it. Doesn't look like a battery, honestly. Looks more like it'd be some sort of resistor or capacitor or something.

Definitely not a resistor or cap. I think it is a battery with that strap across the top. Pretty big actually, relative to other surface mounted components. It looks like something i would attempt to solder by hand. But i wouldn't recommend it to someone with no soldering experience.

Qi charger for $35 - too good to be true?

http://www.fasttech.com/products/1197502
Includes FREE worldwide shipping. Is this too good to be true? I'm keen to give it a shot, but can't seem to find a brand-name or anything. According to the seller its compatible with our phones, but I'm always sceptical of no-name-brand Chinese things, especially if it could damage my precious.
Don't think its branded at all. Their return policy seems pretty good. Seems as though you would only have to pay for shipping if it's not an error on their part. I assume DOA's and the thing breaking down within the warranty period would constitute as free return paid by them. Post a review if u decide to try it.
I received mine today but for some reason I only seem to get 94% charged and won't go above it... I'm still trying to find if anyone else is having this same issue but nothing at present...

Is the blue light overly bright and annoying? Are there beeping sounds? Is it easy to get it to charge, or does it only charge when placed in a certain way?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm thinking of getting one of this if it works.
Placed my order. Figured its worth the risk at that price.

Because on other Qi chargers, a lot of people complained that they lose connection when knocked a centimetre off centre.

You can move it around a bit but not too much, it'll work sideways, longways, etc. and I've also got a case on without an issue.
Maybe once you remove your case, it will charge over 94%.

Has anyone looked at the one labeled just "Qi Wireless Charger"?
It's white, and I don't like that, but it's completely flat, so it'd probably fit the phone better...?
Better as in, if you have to turn it around, then it'd be better, since with the large one, the casing seems to be raised at the top, whereas the standard one is completely flat, so flipping it around wouldn't really be that big of a deal.

This is not the same charger as the one being discussed in that other thread.
To repeat the OP, this is the charger discussed here:
http://www.fasttech.com/products/1197502
Mine arrived today. My early thoughts:
1.) It feels pretty cheaply made, but its a simple device and I can't really fault anything about it as far as build quality goes.
2.) The Nexus 4 has to be placed upside down for charging to take place. Bit of a shame, but no reason why you can't just use the pad itself upside down instead.
3.) Unlike the comments from another poster here, I was relieved to see my phone charge to 100% without any problems.
4.) The flashing blue LED is annoying and doesn't seem to do anything other than flash continually whether it is charging or not. I'll probably open it up and kill it, and/or simply tape over it with black tape.
All in all, pretty happy for the price paid, and glad to be able to reduce the wear and tear on the microUSB port.

Sorry, when I say "upside down", I don't mean face-down. Rather, the charging port needs to be at the top. Obviously that's where the sensor / coil lines up best with the phone; can't think of any other reason.
FYI, use the code "LAUNCH" for 5% off. Credit goes to samlikely in another thread for this.

Charging Port Issues

Um so about a month ago i was charging my Note and I placed it on my desks keyboard slide-out tray but the Note fell and landed directly on the charging port with the cable plugged in and it looked like it bent the port internally since the cable no longer sits flat or stiff. I am willing to open the device and fix it since my warranty is shot since I rooted it lol. What do you guys suggest?

well, I think your options are probably pretty limited. Personally i would probably give it a shot, but you could also send it in to evga and pay for them to fix, probably $100+ or bring it to a local place to try it?
