i want to know if the xperia have a tv output like the omnia.
if anybody have a x1 can you tell me if there is or not.

SlingCatcher will give the Xperia X1 and just all mobile 6.1 device with video capture TV OUT capabilities. By having USB mass storage and a formatted FAT32 micro SD Card on Your Xperia X1 you should be good to go. The SlingCatcher has it's own USB port, it will send the capture video on your Xperia X1 to your living room giant screen HD TV.........!

Touch HD has a tv-out.

Not according to HTC:s website..

Yes, it will work with the SlinCatcher providing all compontents parts are first installed on your Xperia X1, but you really don't have to worry about TV OUT on the Touch HD, because it comes with TV OUT.

Hi, sorry that I want to refresh this thread, but I still wonder how I could manage to view my movies on a tv, using my xperia although I pretty know that it hasn't a specific tv-out.. I looked now in the internet about the slingcatcher, but this would be nothing for me. First of all, its much to big, I wanna this to be "portable", to watch my movies in hotels, so I won't carry such a big box with me everywhere.. And second, its much to expensive, but I rather say in this point, this isn't important yet. What I imagine is just a program to use the usb-port as a tv-out, just that every information for the screen is showed on the tv. Would something like that be possible? Are there already such programs? I would pay 30 to 50$ for that, but 300$ for a big box to carry everywhere is just to much for me.. And I want just to carry a cable with me, that would be awesome^^ so, have you any ideas? Thanks a lot^^ greez, cad

as far as i know not 100% then xperia dont have usbHost (at least only 2 HTC made devices have that suppport)
and without usbHost a device cant use other usb devices at all
another option would be a bluetooth tvout thingy recall something about there being such devices sounds expensive though

never say no to the tv-out feature!
take a closer look to the x1`s usb connector and you will see, that the
backside is plated, too!
that could be 4 every thing! the hardware looks like htc raphael, excluding wvga screen.
but prozessor and so on is exactly the same. okay, a little bit more of ram. but that`s it.
no stereo speakers, no other cam, no hardware video encoder.
and don`t forget, a hardware fbas connector, for example, isn`t really required, there are some other possibillities to get video out over usb/network/wifi/BT2.0!
don`t forget vnc style tools. and vnc styled hardware dongles (usb/wifi for ex.) in future. nobody knows.

web top for galaxy s2

Hi guys
I really love my galaxy s 2 but i think also that all this power can be used to use this Smartphone as a little pc or better to use this Smartphone as a little tablet but more little and more comfortable to move..
Well i have see some details about web top application for Motorola on atrix model and i think that this is a good idea.. When i stay in office or at home i can manage my files and other with my Smartphone but with the keyboard and mouse and monitor of my pc..
I know that Motorola works in 2 different way.. One with the keyboard dedicate and one with the normal wired cable.. May be that i can use this software also for my galaxy? Is possible or not? What gs your opinion?

I think this idea has a lot of mileage, and it's something I'd very much like as well (plus many others I'm sure).
With the MHL output, something like this should be possible.
I've got an MHL cable, bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, and it's ok, but the software is not designed for such a setup, and the screen resolution is far too low.
Sadly I'm not a dev, but in order to create something that can achieve an Atrix 'webtop' like experience for the S2, devs would need to work out how to get something other than video to be output at a higher resolution than the native 800 x 480.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to achieve this?
Could a separate Linux based system be run in parallel to Android, but output via the MHL output?
The S2 is powerful enough, it's whether devs have the tools available to achieve something like this, which could lead to some very cool peripherals (tablet docks, net-book docks, desktop docks etc).
I've noticed this idea mentioned in a few places - are there any devs willing to take this as a project and give it a go? I'd be happy to help organise, but sadly have no programming skills.

I think they simply enabled two or more resolution scaling in the android itself, or at least in the launcher, just a guess though.
But starting another application upon connecting the MHL cable should be easy (e.g. Dock station, etc.) and theoretically someone, or group of people (as I think this would be quite an endeavor) could write whatever you like application.
One tricky thing is if the resolution is at all changeable on SGS2.
But the idea is really good

Thanks for the link. It works ok, and it's great that it is running alongside Android.
However, it seems that it's not possible to get it to work at more than 800x480 resolution, which is a shame. Increasing the desktop size just means you need to scroll around rather than increasing the resolution sent through the HDMI, which is what you'd expect as it's mirroring the GS2 display.
If we could find a way to run this so that it's not mirroring the GS2 display, but running at a higher resolution through the HDMI, that would be great.

I had more or less the same problem, (not using the hdmi cable yet) I changed the /root/bin/ui script to 1024x768 but you can put any value

i dont get you guys it clearly says it uses the MICRO USB port on the mobile device i mean how much more clearer need it be regardless ive sent an email to analogix and will tell u guys what they say

FYI your usb port is never outputting video lol. you would have to run some type of program to do it and that will use CPU power
When have you ever plugged usb into your PC and a message comes up "Would you like to mirror image on your screen?"
You guys know the PSP actually had software written for it that allowed USB mirror to desktop and it lagged the device so badly most games weren't playable anymore

You do realize that PSP is less than 1/3rd the Xperia PLAY's overall capability, right?
PSP also couldn't handle any form of graphical MMOs.

Thats because it used VNC. VNC lags on anything.

check the spec sheets. Also, notice that the Play has Dev units with HDMI out and they don't lag a little.

A bit off topic, but I don't think I ever posted this while I was analyzing the play for HDMI.

Now, I tore apart my Play (when I had it), and I can confirm that that chip is NOT on my retail r800i. This means that there is no "hidden" port or some unfilled solderpads that can be used to attach a microhdmi. There is NO support on the retail motherboard for it. You can't even buy the ADV7520 chip because there are no space on the retail motherboard for it.

There is a solution where you connect to a bluetooth HDMI dongle using your bluetooth and its specific app to stream phone content onto the screen, I think it was mentioned on Engadget but I cannot seem to find the link for it.

so your dev unit theory is irrelevant because our plays contain none of the architecture to run this setup with hdmi.

I don't have a theory, as I don't care one bit about TV output of any kind. However, you mentioned that the PSP wasn't powerful enough to beam out content, which is not a problem in the Xperia Play (or Arc and Neo for that matter).

Why do people keep saying "the play has no HDMI transmitter" if you read the OP, with this cable the HDMI transmitter is built into the jack, the device does not need one

The adapter is probably accompanied with an app. Although the app would need root acces, atleast I think so.

whilst i think this would be an awesome piece of kit if it works as intended, im a little curious as to how it actually works, afaik the cpu sends its work to the gpu for output, the gpu processes it, and outputs it to the display....so how exactly does the usb port get the information from gpu...maybe easy with root access on one device...but making it work on a wide range of devices would be crazy hard.
im not gonna straight up bash this, because they have said its a vendor agnostic solution, so im assuming they have worked out some technical magic with no downsides to pull this off. I'm all for being proved wrong, i just want to see it in action.

First statement is a bit overstated.
By capability the gpu in the PSP has a fillrate of 30 million polygons/s
I believe our Adreno has 52 mil/s
Plus instead of the capability I believe it was the limitation of USB speeds that affected the computer mirroring software.

HDMI and VGA

Hi again,
Seems the thread I started on this disappeared. In short I want to use the note in class and make presentations. I finally got the hdmi adapter and then the hdmi to vga. However the resolution is very low to the projector (e.g., 640x480). I can not find how to change or an app to do so. I am out of luck?

I just recently purchased a wips1000 from teqavit. You can Google search it. It connects to VGA or HDMI, then connects wirelessly to your note. I use it while teaching classses on less lethal munitions. I can walk around the room and wirelessly broadcast my screen to the projector. Thus the students are able to see my tablets screen exactly as I move thru the presentation.
And if you broadcast from a laptop(still learning how to do this part from the tablet) if the student have their own ipad/ android tablets... it will broadcast right to their tablets in front of them.
I think it is really going to bring the quality of my classes up to a whole new level. Not sure if this is what you were talking about but I thought I would throw it out there.

I've Googled it and found out the producer page, but I didn't find info about:
What's its price range compared to Samsung Dongle?
What app should be run in the Note to broadcast its screen to the receiver?
EDIT: Possible answers to Q2 WiFi-Doc? MobiShow?

interesting. I have the samsung system coming in today and will try that. But I will look into this one. How is the quality? Are you doing any powerpoints? .

It is the samsung hdmi adapter. and the samsung hdmi to vga adapter. I am thinking that it is detecting the adapter and lowering the quality of the resolution. That is the only think I can of happening. I have the allshare dongle coming in today and maybe this will work but it will still have to go through the adapter so I am not confident.

Yea I'm thinking it's an adapter issue, I'm looking the idea of using the broadcaster, seems like it would be a real boon to any presentation c:

I have just started to use the GNote to give lectures. I use the Allshare Cast Dongle to make the wireless connection to the GNote. As all my lecture theatres are still using old tech data projectors I had to source a digital to analog converter. This takes the HDMI signal from the Allshare cast dongle and converts it to analog. The converter has a female Dsub connector which the vga type cable form the data projector can be plugged into. I was worried it might not work that well but it has exceeded my expectations. The quality is great and the being wirless has much potential. You can get get the converters on Ebay. I suspect this is quite critical so I got a decent one from Startech.com.

I checked. Price range 300ish to 500ish . I called the company and they said there are two types one that broadcasts 7209 and the other 1020 p which is the 1000. He said because of the higher resolution the refresh rate is low on the 1000 and best on the 340 or the new 510. Price is too steep for me for out of pocket especially if image is low quality for ppts. It may be an adapter issue for me I am exploring what might be best. Seems prices are all over 18 to 50$$. I would hate to have the ipad one up us on this!

Before I got the Allshare Cast Dongle I evaluated MobiShow and Wifidoc. They work OK over wifi but they are far more limited compared to the Allshare Cast Dongle. The Allshare Cast Dongle mirrors the GNote screen which is its massive advantage IMO. Just wish it had a snappier name...

I just used it again today to demonstrate to the Chief for a court room project we are working on. I streamed a movie to the HD TV using a HDMI cable from the wips1000 to the TV. The picture was great and there was never a hang up. I also went through three power point presentations and had absolutely no problems with resolution or lag or anything. And if you use Polaris office to do the ppt presentation or office suite hey both have the ability to use the S pen to underline or highlight things on the presentation slides during the presentation.
Cost is steep 440 for the wips1000. But it is very small and portable and if you will be traveling it's worth it.
The app for mirroring the tablets screen to the TV or projector is mirrorop ...
And the wips1000 will also interface with SmartBoard if you are presented with one of those when your teaching.

Another plus and part of the cost and why I chose the wips1000 over other options is that it broadcasts its own access point. With the other dongles you have to connect to an existing wifi network. The wips1000 and the 350 and 450 all create their own wifi network access point.
Many times when I go train another agency their wifi is locked down and the IT guys has to enter my laptops Mac address in to their network to give it connection permissions. A real pain in the butt ... but the wips series devices create their own wifi network, no internet mind you, but that's how you connect wirelessly. So you aren't dependant on access to an existing wifi network.
Somebody above mwntioned uaing existing wifi with a dongle witj mediocre results. I suspect thay even if you did have access to an existing wifi network and were using a dongle, your performance could be hampered by other traffic flow on that network.
Just food for thought.

[Q] How Can These 2 Be Combined?

My Core Question:
WHY do no Android tablets have video INPUTS on them, so they could also be used as portable HD screens?
(or better yet as portable HD, multi-touch screens)
Basic Idea: I want an Android Tablet that can ALSO do what the GeChic on-lap 1002 can do (even if that didn't include touch). The on-lap 1002 is a highly portable 10" 10-point touchscreen that plays video from any HDMI source (or vga with included adapter). It is powered by USB plugged into either a usb-charger style wall adapter or directly into a PC. The best part is that if it is plugged into a PC, it not only draws power there but also sends touch commands to the PC through the USB at the same time. Great for portable gaming or a second screen BUT they are about $250 for the 10" and about $400 for the 15.6" and they have no OS, or stand-alone capabilities at all. I want a tablet that is always useful as a stand-alone, but when the situation calls for it, can also do the on-lap's job! (If on-lap still isn't clear to you then here is a video of it's big brother the 15.6" version).
I realize that adding a feature can increase the price and/or size of a tablet, but MOST of the parts that they both use overlap, so I don't think that the increase in either would be all that big. An HD 10-point capacitive touch screen has to be the biggest part and single cost in both (so making one screen do both functions only makes sense for size and cost) and the same USB components could be used, same body, bezel, buttons, etc. Admittedly, some components would probably have to be modified like the screen control board. That might cost a bit more/be a little bigger as a combo item, but still shouldn't be anywhere near double sized or double cost... so go ahead and add a little bit of cost or a few millimeters of thickness if that's what it takes! I would gladly pay an extra $50-100 (and probably willingly pay a fair bit more) for a tablet to add this feature and that certainly SEEMS attainable.
I have done literally days worth of Googling and have read MANY threads (some in this forum) with people asking IF there are any tablets with an HDMI input. At this point I am 99.999% convinced there are NONE (but I would be VERY HAPPY to be proven wrong). In order to be 100% sure and let my brain rest... I just have to have some idea WHY doesn't it exist? I am hoping that some of the hardware experts and creative-minded modders that frequent this forum can help me understand what I'm missing or better yet help make it happen. THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL!!!
Some Clarification:
1.) I just want to re-enforce that I am asking about INPUTs, not outputs. You wouldn't believe how much confusion there was about the difference in a few of the threads I read on some DSLR sites
2.) HDMI seems like the logical choice, so I may use it in examples, but my question is really about ANY video input regardless of port-type.
3.) I know that video ports only serve as EITHER a video input or output, not both from the same port (Some day a single port that did both would be nice, but for now) couldn't a tab easily have 2 ports, one in and one out or am i missing something simple?
4.) There is one answer I DO NOT BUY. Which is that 'there is not enough demand for anyone to bother adding an input to a tablet'. I have read several threads that have asked if it exists since 2011 for everything from DSLR photographers, gamers, car-PC builders, RaspberryPi fanatics, techs that want a portable workstation to connect to servers etc etc etc. Whole product lines or even companies (like GeChic) are based on portable screens, so I don't accept the premise that there is no demand. Besides, even if there WERE small demand, that would explain why they DON'T ALL have it, not why NONE have it. All I can conclude is that I am missing something and it must be a much bigger hardware challenge than I realize.

Well thanks... I want that Too... NOW! haha.
In fact, I might actually buy one of the "on-lap"s you talked about for traveling (thanks for culling me into them!). But it would be awesome if my Nexus could just do it! Or better yet, if they would put some droid guts and a battery in that 10inch on-lap (I have decided too late that I like 10" tabs way more than 7s)
Unfortunately, I don't have the chops to answer your question. In fact, I'm with you that it seems awesome and yet reasonable. But there are some brilliant modsters on here, so I hope you get some help because it's a great idea. Good Luck!

I am thinking about doing an in-dash car install of a table. But I would LOVE it if it doubled as a monitor that I could also use for a more elaborate windows7 car-PC for a possible later project. That is what made me first want it. I think I have some work-around ideas to fit those specific needs... but once I thought about it I couldn't help but think of how versatile it would be and a whole laundry list of potential uses!

HAHA yes! that WAS meant to saying "clueing"... But... Ya know... typos happen... Unless, of course, you actually ARE planning to install a "table" into your car's dash, rather than a "tablet"!
