[Q] So; how often do you guys check for the 4.2 OTA? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've decided to be patient, and only checks like 5-10 times a day :silly:
On a more serious note: On Google's Nexus page they write:
Nexus 7 comes with Android 4.2, the latest version of the world's most popular mobile platform.

Are Google shipping new Nexus 7 with 4.2? If they are, surely they should be able to release an OTA?

I check when somebody on the forums confirms its release.
I'm very passive that way.

no point in checking now....when 4.2 gets pushed to AOSP you WILL see it everywhere. and then the devices should get it within the day.
save your fingers, i think you are going to need them on the 13th (official launch of the nexus 4 and nexus 10)

I'm not going to get AOSP 4.2 since i'm on AOKP. Just don't wanna miss some of it's features. But some tim aftere release there will also be AOKP 4.2

What update.
Google will personally call everyone who owns a nexus 7 Tablet two hours before its release . During the call you will be given information on how to obtain this Life saving Technological Breakthrough. They will also explain to you the update procedure. Google will also get your mailing address as to where to send you a refund check for the full amount of the cost of Android 4.1.2 . The check refund is to say they are sorry for having to wait for the new Os. If you mention 3 times while on the phone with them about . thats 3 times talking bad about apple and Ms They will increase your refund by 3x .. Please be prepared to do a short online survey (required).
On topic.. I do not check The day it comes as soon as i log into the forums i will see all the post from all of you guys checking for me...
Have a nice day The above story comes direct from the small part of my brain that does not as i tell it to..

I'll check around the 14th. No point really in checking before then.

[Q] Nexus One Developer Phone?

Hi. Sorry if I posted this on the wrong thread, but I have a question about the Nexus One developer edition. I have read that 2.3 will be released first to people with the developer version Nexus One. When I purchased mine directly from Google, I was not a developer, but I made an app and when I register to become a developer, will my phone and Google register this change and give me the update at the same time as the people with developer phones?
Thanks in advance.

Just wait till XDA gets a hold of it. Doesn't usually take long at all
my guess its either a nexus one sold BY google, or a nexus one with a google account registered as a developer (25 bucks)

this.
Someone will log the download URL and post that, and then someone will mirror the OTA... and then someone will take it apart and hack it to work on non-stock phones, and then we win in a matter of hours.
Way faster than just waiting for the OTA.
Remember the first Froyo release? That was for developer ones as well. It will install on stock phones no problem once the OTA url is discovered.
And that's why I prowl XDA like 20 times a day

Wifi-only Motorola Xoom getting prepped for another 'project'

Hey, just read this on Android Central: an email has gone out to a few members of the Xoom section on the Motorola Owner's Forums talking of a new project.
Hi,
Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are preparing a project

Its certainly great that the Xoom is getting ICS. Kind of wish it was released back in November alongside the Nexus. The Xoom is a Google Experience Device, so I'm wondering why Moto/Goog didn't get this up and running sooner.
Hopefully the 3G/LTE version get the update very soon after!

my guess, to merge in the camera and microphone drivers, the xoom 4.0.3 aosp was released what 2 weeks ago and they are already going to test this in a time where nobody does any work, the team eos rom was awesome and i think we should all be very very excited for our xooms that we paid so dearly for to finally work the way they were intended.
wild guess, 2 to 4 weeks before it's out for the 3g/4g lte xooms or at least i hope!

My guess is that if this is indeed ICS, then Motorola will release the much needed drivers for the camera and other things and the devs working on the ICS roms can just incorporate those into their builds and there will be no need for going back to stock.

So I'm guessing Canadian xoom owners don't get a shot at this? It's odd because our tablets and OS's are pretty much identical. Crazy why Canada gets shutout as it should be North American tablets.

The OS isn't. That's why we got 3.2 ages after the US. Actually, did they ever release 3.2 for the Canadian Xoom? I wouldn't know as I reflashed with the US ROM when I got sick of waiting for 3.1.
The Canadian ROM has some US-only stuff removed such as Amazon MP3, and there were a few other differences too (3.0 had a whole different update checking module for instance).
Right now our best chance is for Team EOS to get their hand on it, be able to lift the missing binaries from it, and get us a 99% working ICS before Moto does (and probably months before Canadian owners gets an official ICS update as well).

Maybe they don't need any more, since the leaked firm from chinese. Now they know what the problems are, and maybe they fixed whats wrong. Since most of Xoom owners jumped to EOS firm, who's gonna need the official. That was a joke, ofcourse we need the official firm

I did change to EOS but for me its not a daily basis rom so yes , we are waiting for the original update so EOS will plast its goodness on it.
yeah they should speed up the update release. It's quite disappointing since I heard about the Prime ICS release which is said to arrive before the Xoom? oO
The Xoom is a Google experience device like all the Nexus phones. Google is the one that controls the updates. Verizon may hold up the process a bit for the 3G/4g versions, but it is essentially a Google controlled device. One has to wonder what is taking so long, but after hearing about the Transformer Prime update woes I don't mind the little extra wait, unless its another 6 month wait like it was to get the LTE upgrade.

Verizon Xoom Jelly Bean Soak Test

Invites went out today. Finally, we're getting an official Jelly Bean update 10 months after WiFi. If anyone is participating in the soak test, could you pull the OTA URL? I wonder if this will be JZO54K like WiFi or if it'll be a newer build of 4.1.2. I guess we'll see!
Thanks!
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk HD
This is excellent news of course, despite being ridiculously late arriving.
I have been running the leaked Motorola 4.1.1 JRO03H build since it dropped last June so I certainly hope its a newer build than that one.
It's actually quite stable despite some annoyances like limiting write access to the sdcard and keyboard misbehavior persisting.
The radios perform very well in this build so it will be interesting to see what changes, if any, appear assuming a new baseband is included.
How do you capture the URL?
I think it's a shame google stopped supporting the xoom. A google experience device and for a long time, the baby of android, always getting the OS updates first. Now it's just the red headed stepchild to the nexus 7 and 10. I would love to see google give us official 4.3 but that probably won't happen. If they did though, it would be really good PR and xoomers would rejoice.

When you get the OTA notification, but before applying the update, run adb logcat and output it to a text file. It'll be in there. The URL will be something like this: http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-trygon-JZO54K-from-IMM76L.abcdef12.zip

There's no discussion. It'll be newer. It'll either be JZO54K like Wi-Fi or a newer build of 4.1.2 that we haven't seen yet (unlikely). I'm sure there will at least be a new CDMA baseband if not a new LTE baseband as well. I say this because the original leaker of that 4.1.1/JRO03H build had a newer CDMA baseband in his screenshot that no one had ever seen before (03.1A.66SP), but his LTE baseband was the same as the IMM76L ICS build.
Speaking of that leaked 4.1.1/JRO03H build, it looks like it was just the Wi-Fi build with the LTE drivers dropped in for testing.
The leaker claimed that Verizon had signed off on it but I don't buy it for two reasons. First, it was never released. Second, that build has a major DRM bug. Google Play Movies won't stream content when using that build because either the DRM keys are hosed or the build itself has something turned on that makes the app think the ROM is rooted.
As for how he got it, he said his own Xoom had the build installed by Motorola development. That much I do believe due to the fact that he had a CDMA baseband that no one else had ever seen.

Nope, your bootloader can remain unlocked. As long as you're running the stock ICS 4.0.4/IMM76L firmware, you'll get the update when they finally do roll the soak test out. Do you know how to pull an update URL, or do you need me to provide you some quick steps?

[REF][GPE] HTC One Google Play Edition Stock OTA URLs

Hi Everyone,
As I do with many Nexus devices, I intend to maintain a thread here with links to all the stock OTA updates for the HTC One Google Play Edition. Each time there is an OTA update, its direct link on Google's servers will be posted here for reference and posterity. I also mirror these files at http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/htc-one/m7_google.
Any questions about flashing these OTA updates can be discussed and answered here as well.
You must have S-OFF on your bootloader in order to flash OTAs manually on a GPE One.

Considering that HTC has delivered the GPE KitKat update to Google for release, it's logical to expect it to begin rolling out this week or next. If anyone gets the OTA update, please get the filename of the OTA ZIP before applying it. You can find it in your /cache folder if you're rooted. If you're not rooted, the process is a bit more involved. PM me for details.

How to get the OTA URLs
The easiest way to get the OTA URLs is to search in the output of:
Code:
adb shell dumpsys dropbox --print event_log
On Linux this can be done with "grep":
Code:
adb shell dumpsys dropbox --print event_log | grep android.clients.google.com
This can be done even after the update.

I really am sad to this GPe stuff, the idea is great, but something always fails: if isn't a delay by HTC, it's a delay from Google and we stay watching damn Motorola getting updates...
I thought that it would come after N4 OTA (wich sucks but I can understand), now it seems like we are waiting for Samsung update, probably the delays are just Google marketing at work...
15 days is pretty good for deliverance but first time we prayed for 15 days, now we pray for 15 work days...
My opinion? We are not getting 4.4 update before December. Now I know why my previous phones were nexus and my next probably will be too...

The GPE updates aren't scheduled together. The HTC One GPE got JWR66Y almost a week before the GS4 did. Also, it appears there were some problems with those initial KitKat builds. I'm sure that has something to do with the delays. For me, 3 weeks after a full Nexus rollout is acceptable. A full Nexus rollout did not start until about 3 days ago. KRT16O only launched for N7 and N10 wifi models, and was quickly pulled. KRT16S started about 3 days ago and THAT is the one that is seeing rollout to the complete Nexus line. So, as far as I'm concerned, my 3 week counter began 3 days ago.

HTC is still claiming that the timing is up to Google, at least on their Twitter. https://twitter.com/HTCUSA/status/403666789080375296
They have made no indications that they need to use a new build or re-deliver code to Google.

Just because they didn't communicate it doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. We'll see.

I wish they never would have made a deadline promise. they never should have updated us that they sent the code to Google. samsung isnt doing this. how do we know they havent sent their code to Google as well. there has never been a need in the past to tell consumers this info.

Agreed 100%. We really don't need to know.

Communication is always good as long the info provided holds its truth.

I have a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7 beside my HTC One GPE. None of those got an OTA update yet to KitKat. So please stop whining and blaming HTC for a "delay". There is no delay. The roll-out is just slow like always with Android.....
