10" screen apps? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just saw the 10 inch Youtube app on Sony Tablet S and I love it.
Now is there any way to get it WITHOUT rooting, I assume with PA ROM you could just change "size" but I don't wanna root this beauty.
Thanks for your help.

You do realize that not one person owes you or anyone else on this site anything. Certainly not answers to your questions or responses to your demands. People take time out if their lives to help others in need. With comments like that, you are even less likely to get help or answers to your questions.

The app is the same for all devices it just changes its layout due to the DPI that is set.....and you need to be rooted to change that. So unless Google decides the tablet layout is OK for this smaller screen then we are out of luck.
After having a 10" tablet i am Happy to have the normal interface the N7 has

Sorry guys if you misunderstood me, it just felt like all other threads were being answered, well this was a stupid question, which I already knew.
Not gonna root my N7 just yet, that's why I got a Nexus, so that I wouldn't have to root.

First things to do with new zoom.

Hello guys and gals. I'm excited to get my zoom in the mail tomorrow from verizon. So I'm reading up on these forums to understand where everyone is at. I'm asking if any one would would he willing to give a quick check list of first things I should do when I get it. Then I can do some research based on your feed back and get it all set up. Thanks.

Download flash player from the market , then set your browser to on demand in the settings. Get feedly for your google reader or pulse, but I prefer feedly as it's much snapier. Download plume for tablet and friend caster for tablets.

One click is to much steps(irony right?)....
Do the catch recovery before reboot method which is really simple and easy. You get root and recovery at the same time.

First thing, right out of the box, root that puppy and install the latest Tiamat ROM.

Play with your xoom for a while then this. I would install the tiamat rom but I don't want to wipe my xoom.
I've decided to skip roms and tiamat or whatever. Looking at threads some are WiFi version only. Then some are different firmware version. I just want stock Verizon with whatever current version its at instructions. It's just to big of a mess for me to spend time digging through literally hundreds of posts researching on what should be closed threads restarted with fresh instructions. Not 4 month old threads. I'll just root adb, use setcpu, and wait for 3.2 uupdate. Then ill join in since ill know where other people are starting from.
It really is a mess. With my Droid x it was simple. A few ways to gain root and all the Roms nicely laid out ripe for the picking. Instruction clearly labled if you have firmware xxx do this, xxy do this. No wonder people are afraid to root. I am, now.

Ok I can't quit that easy. Looked at xoomforums. I think my whole problem was forum layout. Viewing this forum on their premium app jumbled everything together. Seeing everything laid out rom, kernels, ect, much easier. I'll go with launchpad 1.3 then try tiamat. At least I don't feel lost. As long I'm not browsing through their app.

First thing you need to learn is that DEVs do this for FREE AND they have families, lives and jobs. Whining because Google updated a Google phone to ICS and not the Epic is not the way to get answers around here. You want to learn? Learn to port and learn about Touchwiz and start working on it yourself. I have spent hours just porting icons from one theme to another, imagine rebuilding an entire ROM? And another thing we don't NEED ICS. Does your phone work? Can you get to your email? What does your phone need from ICS to function? These threads are non-productive.
If you are bored spend hours on the phone with Sprint and try to convince them to trade your Epic for a Nexus.

Let me rephrase his question for you people who obviously don't know what a context clue is.
"Hello my fellow XDA'ers, I was searching for ICS and stumbled upon this thread on the Nexus S that explains they have ICS? Now this has me baffled because the nexus s is similar to our epics sans a keyboard, yet samsung stated our epics can't handle it? This is ridiculous! I don't mean to sound rude and I give many props to the devs who finally ported cm7 but let's be real guys. ICS is where its at and if the nexus s can run it, then what's this bullcrap that the epic can't? I'm sure you guys will be able to do something about it eventually. Here's thethread for reference."
But alas, op, our devs know its bull**** but there's nothing they can do right now. There's an ICS port of the sdk google released that boots but that's about it. I mean, we have the stepping stones just no one has been willing (and. Rightfully so) to step up to the plate an finish the job

I'm going to take this post home and make love to it. I might even call it in the morning for breakfast.
Agreed, well said, but don't overlook that our dev's recent success with cm7 may very well lead to cm9 not too far delayed from any other cm-supported device.
So while nothing anyone says on here will likely impact the final outcome, we can all silently hope and cheer on devs for cm9.

Also, our "main devs"(take that as you will) are working on ics.

How can I tell if I have the newer one?

Hi,
Got a Nexus 7 tablet for Christmas today. I remember reading back in October or November that Google updated the Nexus 7. I'm not sure what the changes were. How can I tell if I got one of the newer ones, or one of the older ones?
Thanks.

To know which batch your nexus 7 comes from, you need to look on the box it came in. That is where the serial and model numbers are. For example, mine is a C9O.

Yes, there are changes. Asus has done some hardware revisions from batch to batch. No need to frag the guy. Why he wants this info is really none of our business. Its easy enough just to ignore, or give the answer and move on. Our rude answers make xda look bad. Thats just not right, nor the reflection we should be showing.

You just need to stop. Different revisions can have different issues. Maybe the guy wants to be proactive in knowing what to watch for. Maybe he wants to REGISTER it, which he would need the CXO number for. Maybe he wants to know if it is a model known for missing screen screws, or the one known for loose screen screws. Maybe a model that it helps to use screw washers with. There alot of things to be learmed from your batch number. If you would have taken the time to read and understand those particulars in varying batches, this could have been avoided. Therefore, your statement that nothing has changed except that there is no more 8gb, is wrong, and as a result, not helpful in the least.

No he can try to hide it all he wants but he just wants to know if he has the latest build of a nexus and didn't get stuck with old back stock they found in a corner. No other reason to ask such a stupid question.

This is the q&a section. Q&A is short for questions and answers, hence, he asked a question. That is the point to this whole sub forum. The second part is the answers. I understand you confusing the "a" for accusations, but it is answers. I think accusations go in the off topic area. Good luck in there.
The fact remains, your first post contained both an accusation, and incorrect and uninformed information. Speaking of jokes...........

Your incorrect info was saying nothing had changed, other than that the 8gb was no longer available. Fact is, things HAVE changed from batch to batch. Informed owners keep up with those things. I would recommend you google nexus 7 hardware revisions, so that next time you might be better equipped to understand the potential reasoning for the question, and not assume greed is at work. Anyone very familiar with the n7 would look at your respones of calling it a stupid question would immediately identify you as uninformed.

Honestly Dark Jedi, if you have no help to offer to the OP, kindly stop posting and keep your common sense. He has the right to ask. How is it any concern of ours why he wants to know ? If I offer you a cookie which smells funny, and should you ask me what the cookie is made of, should I answer your question or go, "Why do you want to know ? What ? If it's not the best ingredients, you want to throw it away ? In that case I'm not telling. Enjoy it". Honestly, don't understand what you have to gain from doing this to the OP.
@OP : Easiest way I could tell the difference between the old and new Nexus 7 was that the new one had 3G capabilites. So just take a look at your statusbar. If you're talking about the wifi only version, I guess the only difference I could think of is the new 32GB of memory storage.

[Q] Nexus 10 Root

Hey, haven't really posted here before and sorry for asking a question that's probably been asked a million times, but I've just had an information overload today.
I rooted my Nexus 10 today using the CF Auto Root, which also unlocked my bootloader. I won't really be tampering with much on the device as the main reason I wanted to do it is to use my PS3 controller to play games. My question is, what do I need to do with my device still to ensure it doesn't encounter any difficulties with the root?
Sorry again for the basic question, and thanks in advance!
