First things to do with new zoom. - Xoom General

Hello guys and gals. I'm excited to get my zoom in the mail tomorrow from verizon. So I'm reading up on these forums to understand where everyone is at. I'm asking if any one would would he willing to give a quick check list of first things I should do when I get it. Then I can do some research based on your feed back and get it all set up. Thanks.

Download flash player from the market , then set your browser to on demand in the settings. Get feedly for your google reader or pulse, but I prefer feedly as it's much snapier. Download plume for tablet and friend caster for tablets.

download dolphin for pad. Better than stock browser.

LOL, typo. I really asked thinking I would be rooting it right away like I did with my Droid X. I probly will though. Just can't leave thing alone. So really I'm just looking at different methods that are out there. One click would be nice.

One click is to much steps(irony right?)....
Do the catch recovery before reboot method which is really simple and easy. You get root and recovery at the same time.

I used this method, quick and easy.

First thing, right out of the box, root that puppy and install the latest Tiamat ROM.

WiFi only version. Using verizon zoom. I gather that means its The 3g version people are talking about. I'm browsing the developers section still.

Play with your xoom for a while then this. I would install the tiamat rom but I don't want to wipe my xoom.

I've decided to skip roms and tiamat or whatever. Looking at threads some are WiFi version only. Then some are different firmware version. I just want stock Verizon with whatever current version its at instructions. It's just to big of a mess for me to spend time digging through literally hundreds of posts researching on what should be closed threads restarted with fresh instructions. Not 4 month old threads. I'll just root adb, use setcpu, and wait for 3.2 uupdate. Then ill join in since ill know where other people are starting from.
It really is a mess. With my Droid x it was simple. A few ways to gain root and all the Roms nicely laid out ripe for the picking. Instruction clearly labled if you have firmware xxx do this, xxy do this. No wonder people are afraid to root. I am, now.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App

Ok I can't quit that easy. Looked at xoomforums. I think my whole problem was forum layout. Viewing this forum on their premium app jumbled everything together. Seeing everything laid out rom, kernels, ect, much easier. I'll go with launchpad 1.3 then try tiamat. At least I don't feel lost. As long I'm not browsing through their app.

UnRevoked Forever?

Wow finally, eh? Thats a break from the more usual f_off lol.
Since this thread is already made, would anyone mind telling me 1 or 2 benefits of this? I'm a noob and really only know about rooting, flashing ROMs and some standard stuff in adb. How will having s_off help the herd of people like myself, or is it only for the devs and super nerds (no offense).

From what I understand, it allows you to flash new HBOOTs/radios at will, delete components within the /system folder while the phone is up and running, etc. I'm sure there are a host of other things, but that's what I'm aware of so far.
I guess all things Unrevoked Forever/s-off are in the "Unrevoked Tweet" thread in General topic. I'd link to it but am using the app and I don't think there's a way to do it.

Story of the Incredible's short life...
j/w, they are holding the fort down because of bricking (which I appreciate, I rather not have software that could cost me my phone and from what I've read it's almost a 50/50 rate bricking rate at that, not a <1% issue), however I'm curious which phone(s) it's affecting (the initial release was suppose to support Evo's and DInc's... so are both phone having bricking issues or only one of them).
Regarding the now-released Unrevoked Forever tool...

No throttle and no clock for liberty 1.5

Hope it helps. Enjoy!

will this work if i install the gingerbread theme?
I believe so, if the clock does reappear just apply it again. But I don't think the themes effect the service.jar file.

What does "pwn" mean? I ask because whatever it is they will most likely be doing it to me since I use way more data then that. And sorry for the ignorance but not long ago I thought trolling was just looking for girls or hanging out under a bridge. I had no idea it meant provoking people in forums. Still don't understand why they don't call it instigating or being an instigator.

To pwn. Google it...it's funny to see some of the explanations but, long story short, it's short for owned as in going to defeat you, ass handed to you, etc. LoL...it came from gamers playing WoW as a typo for the word own, just stuck since.

Probably not, its replaces the services.jar file for for the droidx running liberty 1.5. I'm. Not sure that the d2 has the throttle built in like the dx does. Even if it does the services.jar file is most likely different.

Honeycomb on the Inc

Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
For what it is worth, I can state that this will install using recovery 2.5.0.5, as I just got done doing so.
Yep, i've reverted back as far as ROM manager allows and so far so good with backing up any ROM and flashing any ROM
As far as this Honeycomb port goes, I wish I had this on my Gtab. Obviously needs some work, but wow this is a 10 on the cool factor. Who cares who did it or not, these Dev's deserve mad respect for their time and hard work. I actually approached the dev for a port on the Gtab and he says he's been trying, but still no luck. As an owner and avid Gtab forumster, I can say that many people on the Gtab forums would consider this guy a god if he were successful on porting this over.
Everybody chill out about the drama and give props where it's due. This is awesome news and fantastic work.
Yes, it is. Is there another recovery I could use?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea go into rom manager and at the bottom it has older recoveries use a 2. whatever one.
flashed for a little but forgot to install gapps. pretty useless right now most stuff doesnt work. along with the bad lag its also pretty hard to navigate since its made for a tablet. things are really small and the mouse has to be moved with the toggle which is a pain in the ass among many other things. might go back to it and try gapps just for ****s and gigs. otherwise useless. will be cool when the bionic comes out and a port comes to that.

Just to add to this. You'll find it under ROM Management then under Nightlies.
It's the .6 build. It appears to still have some Blur in it, like the T9 Dialer, which I'm very happy about.
I don't see a way to change the skin at this time from the Yellow to something else though.
Their app. Learn to google please
Actually they said they'll start releasing it on the forums more promptly as well. The plan is to get v0.6 out today while v0.7 gets into the nightlies.
So you have two options:
- get their toolbox and access to the nightlies as soon as they become available
- or follow the forums and get the builds a few days after they are released in the toolbox

No actually I think it was quite necessary. Almost no droid x roms are hosted here. If people could search before posting here a lot of questions could be easily answered without making a new thread

Yes, it is really nice to have liberty toolbox, however, after you have installed GB you cannot open it -- also if you could open it - how did you do it?

Yup. That's pretty much in a nutshell how these things work around here. No sense in getting particularly agitated about it, if nothing else this may be a good chance to take a breather from the site for a bit while things settle down. At the very least just stick to the development forum to keep tabs on the latest roms and kernels.
