Tmobile lg 4 vs international lg 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well now that they have been announced I have a questions are there any differences between them ? Will they both get the same Dev support ? I made the mistake of buying the galaxy 2 from tmobile and worse decision I ever did had to get rid of it and buy a gnex since the support for the galaxy s2 was the worst and always behind..... Since I have tmobile might ass well use one of my upgrades and save some money on the lg4 just making sure I won't be stuck getting late updates or have luck of support like some people with the Verizon galaxy nexus are having but I understand why since they are using lte which changes the phone around......
thanks for all the help in advanced

There literally is no difference other than the contract you sign.

NO! Pay $150 more to not have to worry about a contract, PLUS pay less with a Value or Pre-Paid Tmo plan.

It is too soon to tell if there will be a software difference. Anyone who says differently needs to provide a link showing proof.
The hardware will be the same.

Actually, it seems that the T-Mobile version will have 42mbps HSPA+, while the version in the google play store only goes up to 21mbps HSPA+.
Other than that, I would assume they would be identical.

FFS people. There are not two versions. It has 8GB or 16GB, those are the SKUs. They're both 42mbps HSPA+.
Google's own Play Store had a typo. It's even been fixed there: https://play.google.com/store/devic...wNV9uZXh1c1VTXzFfcHJvbW9fMTM1MTUyODMyNzI1OCJd
It's DC-HSPA+ 42mbps.

My bad, I saw the 21 earlier and I thought it was some deal between T-Mobile and Google. The Galaxy Nexus international and US unlocked versions were identical hardware-wise, and since there won't be a CDMA version, there shouldn't be any differences with the Nexus 4

Look at all the yakju variants, which are identical hardware, but different software.

Samsung Galaxy S2.. on at&t!

This just in:
Original news link:

FCC Link:
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...e=N&application_id=273771&fcc_id='A3LGTI9100'
I'd be really happy if it does come on at&t bands because all of Canadia works on the same bands
that doesnt mean anything.. the stock sgs ii has att bands and just becuase it is going through fcc approval doesnt mean it is att requesting the approval.. could just be samsung getting it approved as it does all its phones.
Either way he can use it just fine, so it's a lot to get excited about
he could use it without fcc's approval...
also engadget was really slow this is friday's news
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gal...mode_i708_prototype_hit_the_fcc-news-2412.php
what did you think? ffc doesn't work on sundays
Well I for one happy about this.
I held out for waiting for the atrix, but in the end it just wasn't enough for me. I have a captivate and have enjoyed having it rooted and running froyo way before AT&T and sammy got off their ass.
i fully expect the s2 to have all the same bands that the galaxy s1 had, and the omnia hd also had, the same quadband coverage, dont expect anything to change here. because they are the most widely used bands, perfect for an international model.
Oh man, this is getting harder and harder.
Is going to be either SGS2 or iP5.
So difficult.
i still believe S2 will be compatible to all providers, like S1,,
make the base of fight with ip5,,
using tegra2 to ensure the quantity for sale ,, which makes sense.
This was known for a while now, that the Galaxy S 2 wwould work on ATT 3G bands. What is not known is whether ATT will pick up the phone or not.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
They would be fools not to pick it up.
Phones are just bait to get and keep subscribers. The phone should be a great device.
If this is a AT&T only phone, there is no justice in the world.
The international version works on AT&T.
Even if some US Carriers carry it, it will suck in comparison. Look at the Captivate/Vibrant compared to the i9000.
Yeah, that is true.
If AT&T does get they will probably request that sammy retard the phone some how. Like taking away some of the radios or no front facing camera.
I'm hoping they wont do that this time, but they probably will find some way to screw it up.
Agreed! I won't ever buy a AT&T retarded phone again, if there is an international one available I will pay extra for it. Like the Captivate vs i9000.

I completely understand if you guys didn't dig into FCC documents to read what they said, I don't blame you, but just to clarify, the device passed is an 850/1900 ONLY phone, meaning it can only be for AT&T or Canadian carriers.
Other versions will likely be released, but the version that passed FCC is not going to work on other US carriers.

We'll have to see if they strip out features again. FFC is a must, and I don't think they'll strip that out. I think they took that out last time because the network wasn't ready for video calling. They wanted HSPA+ prior to letting people use video calling. Other phones AT&T sells have an FFC now, so I don't think the SGS2 will be any different.
Other than that, what, FM radio and no HSUPA? AT&T SAYS they are going to start rolling out HSUPA, we'll see, if not I'm sure a radio swap with an international version will work again. And FM radio would be a nice addition, but I certainly won't make a decision on a phone over it. I can always use TuneIn and iheartradio if I really want to listen to my ****ty local stations. Oh, and a flash on the camera. That one actually may sway my decision to buy it if they don't include a flash. That was one of the stupidest things I've seen, but I found that I don't care about flash for pictures as much as I do for a flashlight. Most cell phone pictures taken with flash look like crap anyway.
I would go for an international version if they were at least somewhat reasonable in price, but I'm not paying $700-800+ USD for an international version.
Anyway, I hope they will hurry up. I have an upgrade that I'm itching to use!

Why not? Use your upgrade + $199 to buy an Iphone5, sell it for ~$600, pay <$300 out-of-pocket for the international version. The latest details are $700 and a May date from the other thread.

Because I don't want to spend that much on a phone right now. I just bought an iPad 2 as my latest toy, so I have to limit myself. Depending on the cost on AT&T, I'm up for upgrade price plus $50 off. If it hits a $200 price point again I can probably get it for $150. We don't even know what will be different between the two yet.

Canadian Note Up for Order

Telus will let you buy it online outright for a whopping $779.
Bell has it at $729 but requiresa $30 mtm contract and $35 setup fee.
Does not seem to be available on Rogers yet.
I'm glad I ordered from Expansys. Almost $100 cheaper and unlocked. I hate these bas****s and am really want to get to the point where I am not locked into them by virtue of the hardware. Rogers is terrible - I have a family plan (four phones on it) so any time we do an HUP, the contract period on ALL the phones gets reset. I have stopped buying locked in phones and am a year away from making them work to keep my business. I regret having left Telus when the iPhone was first released by Rogers in Canada. They had gone out of their way to keep me as a customer - to the point where I had some amazing free customer loyalty freebies. Currently I have nada from Rogers in that regard.

Skipping LTE

Anyone in the U.S planning on just getting the international version and not worrying about LTE? I am leaning towards the international version because of the processor and probably better rom support.
I have an international s2 right now and I am not sure I really care about lte speed when it's barely supported right now. I guess the only real issue would be the huge price difference.

That's true but Tmobile is supposed to get a non LTE version and it will be much cheaper than the international version if you buy it on contract.
It depends on your location. If you have no LTE where you live, but has 3G, then international version is good idea. Also it will inevitably gets more developers than carrier locked version and has better resale value.

I do have lte in my city, but not sure if it really matters to me. There is free wifi almost everywhere these days, and I am guessing lte coverage is going to be pretty spotty since it is so new.
I guess since I upgrade my phone once a year, I would be fine without lte for another 6-12 months.

International.
Philly doesn't have LTE yet, but probably soon.
I like having the physical button on front to wake the phone, us versions usually don't have that.
Less bloat.
To make up the price difference I'll probably get the iphone 5 on contract when it comes out later this year and sell it on ebay.

I am on AT&T and we are about to get LTE but I really don't care. I am a WiFi consumer 99.99999% of the time so I would rather have this phone with the hopes I will get updates to JB in the fall quicker and that the ROMS will come faster.
International.
I live in Northern part of LA, we have 4G LTE with ATT. But I always have wifi available where ever I go, even work. I'd rather have a better processor, ROM support, faster updates than 4G LTE that I'll honestly hardly ever use. I guess I'm fine with ATT FAKE 4G.

I already decided to skip LTE with the N7000. I don;t use enough carrier data to need it. I prefer the MediaNet $10 UL data. I barely use 1GB a month. Enough to have to pay $30 but not enough to get "value" for that money. I use WiFi almost 100% of the time. 3G+ can stream video without issues. I am ok with that.
LTE is probably great for those who have or don't want to pay for Home Intermet Service and tethers. I have no use for it at this time.
Tough to go back to carrier branded after having the more widely spread international versions.
I may get rid of my at&t Note, and use whatever funds I receive from that to get 1 of these intl versions.
Or, I might just get an intl Note instead...if the screen size and s-pen really is a good reason for why I want to stay Note.
Will the international version work with Tmobile? pros and cons?

So is it going to be like the Galaxy Nexus where you could buy the Canadian version which was the same phone.. Will the Canadian phone be same but with the 1700 band or will there b differences?

To each their own.
I have not read anywhere that the international version, i9300, is a pentaband HSDPA phone. Also, GSMArena has it listed as a quad band so it will not work on T-Mobiles 4G network. It looks like if/when it does come to T-Mo, it will need to be a customized version.
Prob a customized Canadian version...
The good news is that Tmo users do not need to wait another 6 months till the SGS III comes out in Tmo

This just means a custom aws version will also be released. Doesn't look like the international version has T-Mobile hspa. So it will probably not come with the exynos CPU etc.

I personally would like the GSM NA variants to be as close to the international version as possible. Mostly because of the ease of porting custom ROMs. And I really do like my GT-I9100's physical home button. Hope that makes it over, but I doubt it (the NA models never had it, so getting one on the GS3 will break the design/UI continuity).

Same here. I'm planning to get an unlocked version the moment they hit NY but I want to make sure it's fully compatible with AT&T LTE.
If someone has more info please post. Thanks
http://sam.factoryoutletstore.com/
I called customer service there and they said their devices are fully compatible with ATT and that includes LTE - unlocked phones can be bought right now for $799 - a bit more than you will pay if you wait for the official release. The only problem I see is that they don't tell you what model number beyond it being the SM G900 - They don't give the letter after the G900 -- and as we don't know how cross compatible the devices are going to be you run a big risk of buying a phone that won't have much dev support -
That is my take on it anyway - when I called and asked they said you could buy now and they ship immediately.
Good Luck -

Got it. But then it comes with T-Mo bloatware and my goal is to order a model with no carrier bloat. Ideally a Samsung-original LTE compatible version would be perfect but not sure if it exists.
Get the Vodafone one! I read it's compatible with AT&T, has little to no bloat, and can be unlocked from Vodafone's site. I still don't get why Samsung won't just give us an unlocked phone for the US though...
