[Q] RMA: Asus or Google? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For those who have had issues with their N7, who did you have to go through to get a new one?
I have a feeling dealing with Asus will be a long and drawn out process but that's just an assumption.
Thanks

Well I can say I sent my tablet for a cracked screen on last week Tuesday and received an email on Monday night this week stating my tablet was being shipped back....it contained a tracking number and if already in transit which it should be here tomorrow.....I think that is really fast

To whom did you send?

I had to send it back to Asus. I purchased it from Sams Wholesale Club they refused to replace it even when I purchased a service plan from them....lesson learned....never by anything electronic from Sams... ! I couldnt go to Google since I didn't purchase it from them...thus leaving the manufacturing company Asus. The sad part is it came today but my FedEx deliverer could not leave it at it my house because Asus required a signature....and I was not home. Well all I can say is thanks Asus!

Did you have to pay to have the screen replaced? I just got off the phone with Asus support and they said they want $160 to fix it. Thing is, I bought it off a guy I work with for the same price! I'm kinda in a dilemma.

nope I did not....I think it is all in what u tell them, how long you had your device and if there are visible marks on the device... Mine had no marks at all on it. Also...they asked me what happened....I explained... And then they sent me the RMA form via email....so it is not like they gave me a price before I sent it....then like I said I got an email saying that my tablet was being shipped back to me a week later.
Sorry I cant be of more help

Hmm that's interesting. I might have to be a bit more vague. And just ask for the form. Thanks.

Well done moto!

So I contacted Motorola because my little brother thought it would be funny to break the battery door yesterday, and they have already shipped me a replacement even though its not covered under warranty. Well done!

Yay...I don't think this deserved a seperate post but whatever

Well technically the battery door missing is damage and they don't have to replace it. But they did it anyway free of charge, and are shipping it promptly. Makes me think a bit better of them

mine was ill-fitting from new and they sent a new one straight away as well, most likely as it cost €0.00000001 to make

Got mine technically yesterday at 7:00 pm CST. I love it!
I picked mine up day after release at a t-mobile store. Was already a customer and didn't mind the contract renewal. Love the device. Apparently 20 stores in my area were sold out or didn't get their shipment, and the last store in my area had 2 devices left. When I arrived (They wouldn't hold the device for me...*sad panda*) They had 1 left....I got it. So happy with my purchase.
holding/caressing it now lol

Google cancelled my order for no reason. Can I do this?

I bought an 8gb and 16gb a month ago. The 8gb arrived. I thought it was broken so I RMA'd it and was waiting for it to arrive so I fixed it. I woke up today to notice my 16gb order has been canceled and RMA has been shipped. Can I keep the RMA and they charge me for it or will they block the IMEI?

I'm sure if you just called them and asked them if you can keep it they would be more than willing to charge you for it without having to go through all the hassle of not saying anything and just keeping it.

Not really since I'm going to pay for it and they canceled my order after 6 weeks
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, but they canceled your order because they are low on stock, probably because of all of these RMAs if never seen so many phones being sent back to the manufacturer.
Like I said, you can do it, and I would probably do it too, but it isn't cool.

Why? Is Google going to take his returned unit and sell it as new? That would be a **** thing to do. And as far as know they aren't selling refurbs.
OP, If you keep the one you were supposed to send back they will not honor warranty on it in the future. I know because I asked, I wanted to do the same thing and let a friend who is waiting on stock keep my original.

I'm pretty sure they will "fix" phones and re-sell them not as refurbished (i'm guessing tho)

I'm sure there are laws against that, or else we wouldn't have companies selling refurbished products.

I emailed Google and told them that I am going to keep the device. Lets see what they say.
So what makes you think they canceled it? I ordered a nexus 7 and the order disappeared on wallet so I thought it was canceled and they shipped it and charged me anyways.

if you've always wanted the 16gb but only have the 8gb then its a sneaky good way to get 'another' upgraded 16gb nexus phone if it goes through, RMA the 8gb one and just keep it and hopefully they send you the 16gb version! (of course you'll be paying for BOTH the phones) but a good way to get another phone fast!:good:

Ordered N4 from Amazon, best way to RMA?

I ordered my 16GB Nexus 4 from a seller on Amazon on December 6th last year, when I was desperate to get my hands on this phone, and this seller had it for only $50 more than the Play store brand new.
Well, now I'm having issues with my N4 and I need to have it repaired or have an RMA done, but since I'm not the original owner I'm not sure if it's possible. The seller I bought it from, who is still actively selling on Amazon, just sent me an email after I asked him if there was any way to get the original order number, and if he can send an email stating that he was transferring ownership to me. All I received was a reply in which he simply said "Nope".
So, now I'm extremely frustrated and not really sure what to do. I need a working phone, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get what I need from the original owner. Any ideas?
Anyone else had a similar experience and was able to overcome it?
I don't know if this is fraud or not but you can tell Google you received it as a gift and they will transfer the warranty over

I told them that it was was a gift, but the rep. said that they need to get some confirmation info from the original owner before they can replace it. And LG told me to call Google. I will never buy an unlocked phone or a Nexus from Amazon. I guess this is what I get for being in a hurry lol.

Strange. I just bought a Nexus 4 on Craiglist (!) a month ago, got its back glass shattered today. I called Google, they told me to call LG. And the LG rep was really nice and gave me a RMA number right away after I gave him the IMEI number. Now I just have to ship the phone to LG and probably pay a hefty sum to have them repair it lol
I guess you can try calling this number that I called: 8007938896
Hope this helps!
If you want to be extreme and really want that RMA you can say that owner passed away. A friend of mine did that and they let the RMA transfer. Not saying you should though.

also update on my issues: i decided just to pick off the glass around the camera and buy a dbrand skin to stick on the back. Not the most elegant solution but... sure saves a lot of money
