Razr M data on call 3g - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why does this phone not get the data on call when on 3g like other s4 snapdragon phones? I thought that was a feature of that chip. Same chip as the sgs3 and incredible 4g....
I realize you can get the data on 4g but it works with 3g on the other phones.
Any suggestions or answers? Maybe works on the jelly bean update?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

To my knowledge its not the phones, it is a limitation of the 3G network, that is why the CDMA carriers is hard at rolling out the 4G networks.

No the phones I have listed have the capability on Verizon ... pretty sure it's a chip set thing
I believe the Rezound, incredible 4g, galaxy s3 all have this capability on Verizon.... possibly more I don't know of
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

I guess no one is concerned with this feature? I am just wondering if it's hardware or software related

Yep cdma is for voice or data...not both at the same time
If u have Lte and CDma u can get both at the same time
GSM phones can do both at the same time
Pretty simple

It's definitely not impossible. Rezound could definitely talk and use 3g data at the same time.

I believe it is called SCDMA, Verizon supports it and a few phones on their network support it. The Thunderbolt is one that I know about. The problem, as I understand it, is the phone needs a second 3G radio and that kills the battery life. There was a lot of talk about it on howardfourms.com when Verizon announced it about a year ago. It was a feature I missed when I left AT&T especially when using the phone for navigation in a car while talking. I've mostly been taking mass transit the last few years so it isn't as important to me.
Since the LTE radio already is eating the battery life and VoLTE is due next year, I doubt your going to see new phones with this feature.
I check the howardforums site, it is SVDO and here's a thread (there are many):
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1770529-Upcoming-and-current-SVDO-phones?highlight=svdo
Looks like the S3 supports it too.

Att 4g or 3g

Is there anyway to run the mytouch 4g on att without it only being on edge network?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Pretty sure thats a no since the radios are built for different frequencies.
Unfortunately no, the radio in the Mytouch 4G only supports At&t's Edge Network.
probably not
iphone supports only EDGE on t-mobile network, so I assume the hardware designed for phones are only available to the network they were originally made for
if you want to run a MT4G on att go buy a desire HD. same unit but the radio's work on ATTs 3g network. thats basically the only way.

thats pretty much true there unless the phone is running quadband HSDPA. which is very rare nowadays. tmobile just kinda sucks cause they are running a rare HSDPA band while ATT runs a more mainstream. i buy phones from taiwan (HTC headquarters) for my family to use on ATT and their 3G is flawless.

Could you elaborate more on the Taiwan connection? I'm using this device now but would rather go back to the mt4g. Yet considering the match level of chess these companies are playing I need a Bobby Fischer type of device, of which seems to not be available in the YouEss

It's quite simple. all the phones from Taiwan use the same 3g signal as att here for their smartphones. So you can buy phones from there and they will work perfectly fine on att networks here.

Virgin Mobile now has 4G

Virgin Mobile has now rolled out a 4G phone. For us Epic 4G users running on Virgin Mobile, I was wondering if it was possible to call up Virgin, find a nice support technician, and squeeze some info out of them. Perhaps get them to add our mac addresses to the system and clear us for 4G use.
Since the price points aren't changing, I don't see what the problem would be. All they have to do is add our mac address to the system and we should be able to pick up the networks.
I'm not expert at this, and I may be missing something. However, that's what I at least think should fix the problem.
I may give this a spin sometime, just have to get an understanding technician.
What are your theories? Any ideas? Something you have been working on?
I doubt they use WiMax

Boost does. It may be how Sprint is trying to make up for it's losses on Wimax since they switched to LTE.

Is it LTE or Wimax?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
It's sprints Wimax... They invested too much in Wimax to just toss it out the window so they opened it up to us boost Virgin users to get some extra life out of it since sprint will be rolling out it's LTE soon.
And don't trust sprint or boost or Virgins site for Wimax coverage... They have switched on a bunch of Wimax towers that don't show up unless you look on clear.com
Like here in Lincoln Nebraska!
Sent from my LG-VM670 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, they are using Wimax..
If you go to epic's virgin Mobile tut, Brooksysx talks about the whole she-bang in length, it's possible to use, but tedious to the average noob nonetheless.

Simultaneous Voice and Data on 3G

I'm not sure if anyone else has had a chance to notice this but I recently used the app Phone Info to be able to toggle my LTE when I want to use just 3G and I noticed something neat. I noticed that when on the call my 3G indicator remained on, and usually it goes away until I get off the call. So i attempted to access the internet while still on the call and to my surprise voice and data worked simultaneously on 3G!
Probably not the most sought after capability on a phone but I definitely enjoy having the option.
Make sure you put sprint on the title, and yes the evo lte and the gs3 both have svdo and that's why it makes it possible, on att and tmobile it has been done already because of gsm technology

Not understanding the nexus 4 and its 4g restrictions

So I read in most forums and it seems to me that you can get 4g but at the cost of Google now not working. I'm just a bit confused. I've had my nexus 4 for about 2 weeks now. 3g only. Currently on T-Mobile what I was wondering is that how come my box says 4g but I'm only getting 3g and I checked best buys website and they're selling nexus 4 and in the description it says it has 4g.

they call hspa+ 4G. while its technically 3G(or 3.5G), it can be very fast too, so they call it 4G. ive gotten data speed as fast as 30mbps for download on hspa+ in my area. i think that you are thinking lte, which is also considered 4G. they are just different technology.

In fact it's got a LTE modem inside so it was possible to connect but no specific amplifiers for 4G signal, also the newest update from Google rendered it unusable.
HSPA+ 21/42 is fast enough, as said above, I guess.
What everyone above me said. For what it's worth, for most people, hspa+ is more than fast enough. There is nothing you'd do on a phone than warrants needing faster internet than your at home cable internet lol

Galaxy S5 Sprint Spark kills data + voice calls at the same time!

SEE POST 30 TO CHANGE YOUR PRIORITY BAND COVERAGE!
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...ark-4g-network-problems-phone-calls/index.htm
I asked the store rep if Sprint is working on a fix, but we all know the Sprint reps are usually useless answering these questions (by this I mean at the store they are only trying to make a sell). Her answer was that Sprint is working on a fix that will fix all phones with an OTA. My next question was is this a hardware or software problem which she responded that it is a tower problem. I looked online for an answer but all I could find is that Sprint responded with a weird kinda lame answer that didn't really say if they are working on a fix or not. On Sprint's Forum a rep says they are, but they say a lot of things on the forum that aren't correct also. This seems to be a very frustrating situation actually.
Does it matter to you?
It does to me, but at the same time it isn't a function I use all the time. My only reason that it has helped me, is that it has greatly helped me with work a few or more times.
I am kinda forced to buy a new phone for framily / billing reasons... huge bill without it. I am sorta thinking that I will upgrade the phone but at the same time keep my S4 handy in case I hate the S5. I went to the store today and I have to say it actually surprised me with it's new version of Touchwiz- even though I usually hate Touchwiz.
The only real reason I can see me upgrading is the camera and battery algorithms for power saving.
I call crap!
I've had none of these issues personally, and you can just turn off Spark.
I spoke with sprint today and they said it would be fixed when spark opens up nation wide.

Spark is crap!!!
The reason you can only use one at a time is the triband antenna in the phone it can only use one signal at a time. It may be fixed once sprint starts using voice over LTE. Plus spark is just a unborn baby right now, not even full deployed. The sprint map says spark coverage is in certain areas on the sprint coverage map on the website. This is not true, the sprak network is 2.5Ghz radio head on the the already existing towers(have not be built or not on-air yet). According to sprint Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung towers are the only companies that are contracted to work on spark networks. Ericsson is looking like they will not be apart of the upgrade. This means there will be 1/3 of the sprint market that will not have spark. Sprint has the the companies split by markets and only two of them have contracts to build in their area.
Here is an article that will cover a good about of that info.

NSN will be the contractor for the Areas served by Ericsson for NV 1.0. The reason you can not get SVLTE is because they do not have multiple pathways for 1x and LTE. Here it talks about it. The S5 was not the first phone to have this happen, All tri-Band Phones will most likely be without SVLTE from now on.
S4gru has a few pages explaining it better.

Yes, I forgot to mention it is not only the S5, but all Triband phones. I mostly wanted to put this out here in the open for feedback and other peoples knowledge when contemplating the S5 as an update. I would have been absolutely pissed if I found out after the fact.

Now that Sprint has wifi calling it seems like it would be easy to use the same service over LTE. Then 1X voice wouldn't be needed and you could use data+voice simultaneously.

Having sprint spark doesn't mean your going to have best speeds unless your connected to band 41 or band 26 which is the newest bands. With those speeds you have there i wouldn't be surprise if your connected to band 25 which is the 1900mhz which yea its loaded with majority of sprint customers which is going to give you real slow speeds.
Here some speed test on band 41 i took yesterday morning when i was heading to go play some basketball.
