4g yes or no - Galaxy Note II General

recieved this email from hantec
Dear customer
.We are emailing to inform you that we will have the WHITE Galaxy Note II in stock later on*today*and will be dispatching orders placed for that model on Monday. We realise that you have ordered the TITANIUM model but thought we should ask you if you wanted to change to white as we are not expecting the titanium version until week commencing October 10th.Also, we have learned that the SIM free stock is not 4G capable, only 3G capable so if you wish to cancel your order for that reason then please let us know

Well, I'm not in the UK, but I have lived my entire Mobile life without 4G / LTE. I've streamed netflix just fine, pandora or other music, downloaded podcasts, everything just fine. So do you "need" it? I don't think so. But I think extra bandwidth is always a good thing.
Btw, my average download speed was 1.6 mbps, sometimes higher, others lower.
Don't know if that helps any, good luck in your decision!

You only need 4G when you have poor 3G in you country/area.

4g is comming to ee
yay I'm now a member.

LTE is WAY faster than HSPA+ even at 21Mbps due to its low latency. Please do not say "3G" is sufficient as I was so wrong to think that. Downloading ROMs in 15 minutes is a freaking blessing.

Vibrant 4g first impressions

Not sure if this should be posted here but I got a look at the vibrant 4g yesterday and it is pretty sexy. With minor changes like ffc and new back the phone doesnt look different but feels different some how. I took some basic pix of it nothing too much. Scored a 990 on quadrant. Ffc is not bad at all and rear camera has no banding issue like vibrant so this might be helpful for us vibrant owners. Please don't get mad at me for posting this in just sharing some of my experience.

I would also be curious what your opinion is of the GPS ? And how is the call quality ? Any dropped calls ?
Not to be rude, but seems the U.S. carriers getting the shaft from Samsung. Why is T-Mobile just now releasing the Galaxy S-1 w/4G, which is based on last Summers technology, but Europe will get the brand new next generation Galaxy-S-2 beginning of next month. WTF Are we U.S. customers going have to wait until Summer for the Galaxy-S-2 to show up here ? And Europe will get it 4 - 5 months ahead of us ?

Europe has always gotten phones much much earlier than the US, nothing new here. That's why you get a whole year warranty (vs 3-4 months) for example. Also take a lot longer to get FCC approval than most European markets
Wont be able to tell you guys about gps n calls til next week (launch date) the phone I had was a live demo didn't even have inception movie on it yet. Samsung is having an event next week hopefully I get picked to go so ill have more info.

Alcatel-Lucent LightRadio (Sprint's New Move)

So a CNN new report says that a Sprint Spokes Woman indicated that Sprint is looking to expand their network using this Technology.
"Sprint is talking to Alcatel Lucent about this technology and we will be working with them to test and evaluate it," a Sprint spokeswoman said. "We have been aggressive in smaller factor cell sites to help us support the growth in data traffic."
Full Article http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/21/technology/light_radio/index.htm
This seems like a very solid move for Sprint if all works out with this new technology, Cheaper to operate, faster data transmissions, and better signal all round.
Sprints all mixed up Hesses not sleeping well due to the merger news yesterday
Lucent was always forward thinking as a company when they were Bell Labs. Somehow, it's not surprising to me that this idea is coming from Alcatel Lucent's shop.
And that Sprint is thinking about using these devices shows one, that they know they need to upgrade their 'net, and two, they expect to offer unlimited data into the foreseeable future, especially if these towers-in-a-box prove as deployable as they appear.
Good move, Sprint!!

Best analysis I've heard yet.
Sprint is all over the place with news and speculation. I love it!
I'm actually very nervous about the ATT-T-Mobile move. If this move goes down, Sprint is guaranteed to remain the smallest of the major service providers. If this happens, does Sprint lose their wind, or does this kick them in the pants?

I dont know this has failure written all over it.
If they would just slap a few of these on the towers their problems would be solved

I hope to hell it doesn't go through. It would be bad for everyone including folks on Sprint, not to mention the people gobbled up from tmobile by ATT. There are still lawsuits going from when ATT and Cingular merged because of how ATT did the people that had Cingular. I just think prices would get higher and with less competition big red and ATT would nickel and dime everything even more than they do now and sprint wouldn't be able to hold out very long against 2 companies that would have 3 to 4 times the customers.

Wasn't it the other way around? Cingular bought out AT&T, AT&T disappeared then Cingular decided that AT&T was a more recognized name and changed their name to AT&T. If I'm wrong then sorry but it has been years.
I as well hope it doesn't go through it would sucks for tons of people

AT&T managers are a waste of human space. They treat their own employees like crap and do worse to their customers. A cap on usage? really!? yeah AT&T, go suck it. lol.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that this isn't in anyone's best interest, this deal is probably going to go through. Big business owns the US government. So, what Big Business wants, Big Business gets.
I especially like the idea AT&T is pushing, that this will provide improved use of spectrum. This from the company that is already failing to make full use of the spectrum they already have access to. They have also done a miserable job of network expansion, even though network congestion has been a thorn in their side for years. I wonder what makes the executives at AT&T think that having a larger, more neglected network will be good for them or us?

Radios by region

Is there a way to figure out which radio is best to use in your location? Like a US-east radio?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
With enough user feedback, this thread may become that but a I think the only way right now is by trying them, give each radio about a week unless there is some major performance issue, doing a few speed tests and deciding which worked the best. Although a superthread about radio performance by region is a great idea, it would just take time and a lot of feedback and managing the feedback to work well.

thats what i get using the 36p in San Diego, California
Be careful with AT&T 36/37 outside of North America. It may have poor WiFi in Europe. N_100 European is seems to me more balanced.
Most problems with battery loss is due to unnecessary Alarm Wake-ups and Networks Locations (especially in my case).
When I disable Network Locations my battery lasts maybe as twice as longer.
All the above is based solely on my own experience for two days of "radio madness".
So AT&T Atrix's can flash any radio?

[Q] Where to buy one that works in my country?

Hello, dear XDA citizens.
I had been a happy user of my HTC Desire since July 2010 when I bought it. Unfortunately, it recently started randomly losing signal, with the same ROM version I’ve been using for a while, so that means it’s time for an upgrade.
The problem I find with current options, it’s that there are no longer phones anywhere!!! More specifically, I can only see 5"+ phablets (don’t call them phones, please, at that size they no longer start being just that), which are really not what I want. I want something I can comfortably hold in one hand when vertical, that is, 4.3" minimum, 4.7" maximum... or at least that’s what I thought, until I heard of the LG G2 one-hand operations option. I’m not sure yet this option is available to AOSP or any ROM that might currently be developed for the phone, but it makes a whole difference for me, so much that it makes me skip my self-imposed maximum-screen-size ban. You’ve gotta hand it to LG, they understand exactly this predicament.
As for other features, I’d like it with LTE; my operator in Colombia says they support Band 4 - AWS, and 1900MHz for HSPA+. I’ve been away quite a while, so I’m no longer savvy, but I’ve read some articles about LTE for my operator, and while they say AWS, they also say, for example, they acquired the 1700MHz/2100MHz spectrum, or that the Nokia Lumia 920 (model RM-820 only) works. Those are some details that perhaps can help you help me assert if my choice is right. Oh, 16GB or 32GB is alright for me. Never used more than 6GB myself.
Question is: do you know where can I buy one that fits those specifications? Please paste links that you trust and recommend. It doesn’t matter if I have to “import” it, since I have relatives living in United States which luckyly will come by new year’s eve, so hopefully I can just pay the phone itself and be done with it.
I think that’d be all.
Thanks again for your support!
My international D802 doesn't support band 4 as I read the box , see the attached photo.

Oh, man, I knew it.
Looks like I need a U.S.A. AT&T-compatible phone, which are the ones I see share the 1700/2100 frecuencies. Bummer. Question, for those in United States: can I buy an AT&T-bands-compatible phone without an actual plan? In Amazon looks like I can, but I want to be sure.
Thanks for the information!
PS: The company says something like:
HSPA+, 23/10/2011, Tigo commercially launched 4G service using HSPA+, with 4 Mbps average speed at 1900 Mhz band...

Since I would at least have HDSPA+, although it was implemented two years ago already, according to that, do you think I would still be able to squeeze the phone value two years from now at least? Thanks!
