[Q] What to do before flashing a ROM - Bravo General

Hey guys I need some help on what the procedure is before flashing a ROM to this phone. I have had other phones in the past that I have put ROMs on. Most of these phones have threads that have what you need to do before you can flash a ROM. However, I cannot seem to find one for this phone. So with your help I would like to make one for this phone. I just need to know what is need and the options are for it. I can then compile all of the info and make it look pretty for any one else looking for this information and hopefully have it sticky-ed.
Thanks for the help guys.

Hi.
First root using SuperOneclick
Allow install unknown sources in your phone
Install Defy 2init
That's it, you're ready to install any rom you want.
All this apps can be found easily here.
Hope it helps.

Need a little Clarifiction

Hi all,
I was wondering for a while now, I followed the Unlckr guide on how to root my HTC Hero, but I didn't really get when the rooting stopped and the cooked ROM began.
So, breaking it down: -
What is the Cyanogen Recovery Image for? Is that just so we can enable the custom ROMs?
Putting in the new ROM, does that then mean my phone is then rooted? If I put in another Stock ROM (as I still haven't found a Donut update for Hero anywhere yet), will it be unrooted again?
What does Rooted mean anyway?
Many thanks if you can answer any or all these questions, I'm eager to know what I actually did
Take it no one knows or cares to clarify?
You might have better luck if you post this in the Q&A section. However, I reckon you'll find the answers you're looking for if you use the search.

cyanogen 5.0.7

i am trying to figure out how to install this rom on my g1 it is freshly rooted g1, i had instructions for installing rom and google addons but lost page.. can anyone plase tell me where a good guide for installing this rom is? thanks
All the info you need is here:
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-g1-dream-how-tos/
Or in XDA Forums. If you are rooted you are half way there, also check your SPL (you need DangerSPL).
Good luck.
To keep it simple I would just flash one of the kangs of it like cannon202's CompleteEclair 2.2. I recommend this because this rom does not require DANGER spl. Download it HERE, put it on your sdcard, turn the phone off and apply the update and the gapps.

[Q] ROM Help

Hi all,
Lately i've been reading about the HTC BLACKSTONE procedure to flash, came accross the links and read them. My phone has the version of
ROM - 1.18.707.2(23358) WWE
Radio/Protocol - 1.09.25.14/52.49a.25.26U
I was wondering if someone could help me out in telling me is there is any additional hardware required to flash. I've heard about something called the flash box that is used to flash the phone, and as i'm new to this HTC TOUCH HD. wanted to know if this will need any additional hardware other than USB cable and phone???
Also, i wanted to know according to you ppl which will be a stable ROM, my phone battery dies like within a day, hence planning to flash the radio too.
So if u can help me with with the details of any Stable ROM according to you and a stable RADIO that will not kill my battery this fast???
Please help me out...!!!
I don want to brick my phone without knowing the complete details...
Thank You.
Any kinda help will be appreciated....
you just need the cable and phone. nothing else. your cable should be recognized by your computer.
Thanks for the reply. But the drivers need to be installed. right??

[Q] Some questions about rooting HTC Wildfire ?

Hi,
I have bought a brand new HTC Wildfire and am awaiting for it to be delivered. It is on Vodafone (uk).
I would like to root my phone when i get it and would appreciate your time if you could help answer some questions i have.
1) If i root my phone can i revert back if i want to? by this i mean go back to the Vodafone default, sorry don't know what they call it, basically so it's back with Vodafones custom android or whatever it is they call it.
2) I guess i will loose everything on the phone like apps etc? can i backup everything before hand?
3) I would like Android 2.2 which i believe is the latest version, by rooting the phone how would i go about then updating to Android 2.2? would i just need to check for updates from the HTC website or something?
4) I here about all these custom roms, can someone explain what these custom roms are? are they modified versions of android or something?
5) If i am able to update to Android 2.2 does that mean i can install apps on the sd card to save the memory in the phone as this would really benefit me?
6) Do i need to root the phone to install Android 2.2 on it?
Maybe i don't need to root the phone to get Android 2.2, if not does anyone have a guide on how i can do this please?
Thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been answered before.
I did read the UnRevoked Guide which has explained things a bit and sounds the easiest way and red all the replies to.
Thanks
MR
1) Yes. You do this by finding the relevant RUU on the internet and then flashing it to your phone.
2) Rooting does not make you lose any of your apps, it just gives you more access to your phone in a way. When you install a custom ROM you can use a program like Titanium Backup to backup all your apps. Also you make a Nandroid backup of your phone that you can recover in case something goes wrong.
3) Over the air (OTA) updates of Android 2.2 will be coming before Christmas it is thought so if that is all you want you could wait. There are a few different 2.2 based ROMs available on this forum if you look through the threads. This thread lists the different ROMs with links to each thread and there are some links to guides as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822181
4) The custom ROMs are community modified versions of Android that provide something different to the stock ROM. Some of them have HTC Sense, some of them are the standard Android interface. Which one you choose all depends on what you want out of your phone. See the link above for more info.
5) Yes a feature of Android 2.2 is apps2SD. This is available in the custom ROMs.
6) If you don't want to root your phone then you can wait for the OTA update of 2.2 from Vodafone. If you don't want to wait then you will have to root your phone.
I believe those answers to your questions are correct although you could be better waiting for a more experienced member to reply. I suggest you read as much as you can about rooting and installing custom ROMs so you can make sure you are making the right decision and that you know what you are doing.
You need to be aware that rooting your phone will void your warranty.
Hi,
Thanks for replying, this has really helped answering my questions
Thanks
