Hey guys i need your help urgently ! !
I am in a big trouble of buying a smartphone.My 2 choices are galaxy s3 and note.
these are the points that i like about each:-
galaxy s3:-
1.Best performance
2.Lots of added features
3.one of the best camera with burst mode too
4.Great battery life
5.WOLFSON
galaxy note:-
1.bigger better screen imo(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)
I know that s3's ppi is better but that mere 15ppi doesnt mean anything to me
2.Its by far much better looking than s3
3.spen
My main reason for loving the note more than the s3 is its SCREEN.Its sooo bigger and hence better for browsing,gaming,movies etc.
So here my maib questions are:-
1.Is the performance soo much better on s3 than note,specially the gpu?
because i love gaming and the gpu performance is what i need the most ! !
2.I heard and have seen that the ui of s3 so fluent that its now on par with iphone?Then how will be the ui of note?
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?
I am in hurry for gettibg one because in india we have some offer for note,in which samsung gives sennhieser headphone,flip cover,3000(60usd) games totally for free and this offer experies on 31st may.So what to choose?Even the note 2 will be launched in may be september,so is buying note good idea?

Don't get note for now. I think you should get the best Samsung out there aka s3.

you should simply go for s3 , it beats note on all aspects except the screen size(if you like the bigger screen).
s3 packs the most powerful gpu for a mobile that are released so far.
Mate go for what you like at the end of the day, You're getting the phone for your needs. Just get the one you think is best suited for you ...
Ya all of you are right.I should be going for s3,but i think that the s3 is a bit narrow on the display front,isnt it? and may be thats why the resolution differ on both i.e 720p vs 800p?
BTW i am currently a s8500 user,i know the s3 will be the right jump for me but is the screen that too smaller than the note?
Personally, I'd go for the newer, better spec'd SIII over the Galaxy Note.

Well it's 0.5 inch smaller than the note. That means around 1.25cm in diagonal range. On a phone it's obvious if you put them next to each other but otherwise I think you will be really happy with S3's screen.
Also just to add to your first post regarding the specs... S3 has C-Pen, it's almost identical to note's S-Pen. Just so you know

C-Pen? But no special apps like the note has, or?
If screensize is really important to you take the note or wait until Note 2. The size of the note is imo much bigger. Look at youtube videos aka note vs gs3, there are plenty of them. There you will see it.
I have the same problem atm and I think I will wait for the note 2. But I don't know whether I the Note can replace my ipad for browsing...

I'm sorry but I really hate these types of responses. It doesn't offer the OP any real advice either way. He's asking specific questions about performance and quality and answers like this don't tell him anything.
Edit: OP, get the S3 and don't look back. It'll have much better dev support as well, being a flagship device.

I had the Note and I'm planning to get the SIII. I think if you are a business or artistic kind of guy or use EverNote or have other uses for the wacom pen should be your main reason for getting it.

You can refer to these benchmarks for now, the Note will be slower, but for real world usage it fast enough to perform any mobile tasks, due to the dualcore Exynos at 1.4ghz. It has the same Mali GPU as the S3, you shouldn't miss out much on the gaming side. I'd say inevitably the S3 will perform faster for gaming, but I don't think will big enough of a difference to matter (besides the typical nerds bragging rights).
Games will still look nicer on the Note big screen. Another advantage with its large screen is if you use onscreen gamepads a lot, you have large area to move your thumbs so the controls seems to register better. It's decent enough that I can play a lot of 'classic' games without needing a physical controller. I think the S3 will be on par too though since its a big screen too.

Do not worry about screen brightness for either devices, both Note and S3 will be very bright with these AMOLED screens. The Note at 100% brightness is equivalent to staring at the Sun.

I don't have an SIII yet, so I don't know. As for the Note, if you have lots of stuff installed on a non-rooted Stock rom, there will be some lag in animation with touchwiz interface, but if you custom rom and use a lighter launcher, its smooth. It also have ICS now, so that might improve things.

I don't know, I don't have the S3 yet, there are new software features and improvements with the S3. But large screen of the Note is a winner here obviously to me, text will be just a bit bigger, sometimes you don't even need to zoom in. It is possible that the S3 can render webpages faster, but I don't know.
Overall, it will be a hard choice, if depends on how much cheaper you can get a Note over the new S3, if you can save at least $200USD by getting the Note over the S3 than its a good deal. If you enjoy large screen estate go for Note, its easier for reading and watching HD movies on it is fantastic. It has excellent camera, great battery life (2500mAh, ICS as well, and better look (imo). If I was someone who already have a Nexus or Note (international), I would not upgrade to the S3, unless I have money to burn. I will get the S3 though since I always want to try the latest stuff and it has some interesting new software features that I don't think Samsung will port to older models because they want you to buy their latest phones.
Same "dilemma" except I have the Note.....I say BUY the Note USED.....try it then decide. You can't lose too much. I have never bought a new International device. Probably won't with the S3 either.
I love the Note's screen. In fact that is the reason I bought one. I still have a back up SGS2 but will sell that when I get the S3 and use the Note as a back up to our phones. The DAC is what tipped the scales for me. I had an iTouch mounted to my bike and had plugged in my earbuds to it when I went for longs rides. (and short ones) The Captiave, SGS2 and Note relagated my iTouch 4 to permant duty on my nightstand alarm where it inevr gets used as my phones also are my alarm clocks.......Be really nice to have some VooDoo Sound again. (Although VooDoo Louder came in handy on my bike.)
I am HOPING I won't miss the screen size of the Note and the trade offs for the many benefits the S3 has to offer in may other areas are worth it. Such as the ease of pocket carrying ( I LIKE the rounded corners LOL) , the many additional features, The Pen is something I do use and will use more since flashing to official ICS as it is virtually no lag anymore.
The SGS2 screen is too small for me anymore. I am not going back there. I think a slightly smaller screen will work better ergonomically.
I have no issue with using the phone with two hands although ICS now has "one hand mode" for the Note" where the keyboard and dialer are rendered smaller and moves to the left in effect giving on the same size as an S2 or iPhone.
Then the Note 2 may or may not come out if those using Note find the S3 covers all the bases well enough.

I think we are talking for 2 really nice phones here but if you would ask me, I would choose SGS3 since it has better screen (pixel density and other improvements).
For me if the gs3 supports the pen feature...then its gonna b my next phone

The main reason bothering much is now its the quadcore season so many apps will be made accordingly for the quadcores......So can i still be able to play those highly graphich demanding games at a good fps on note?
Only the processor is the factor that is stopping me from getting galaxy note! !
I will go for GS3. But, I still have a soft corner for Note. I will suggest OP to wait for Note 2.
Here's my reasons -
I suspect (no insider information, purely connecting dots) Note 2 will have Exynos 5 SoC. I think Exynos 5 just went into mass production in Q2, and was never ready for being implemented into SGS3.
We definitely can expect incremental update in Note's screen. So, either it would be HD SAMOLED PLUS or something like a PenTile 1600 x 1000 resolution keeping the aspect ratio same as OG Note.
But the most important factor could be Samsung huge marketing and developer push for S Pen apps.
They now have a $ 4million prize money for Note and Tab apps. Just a month back they had another S Pen app contest.

You could be getting much better Pen apps.
In either case, both phones will have great support and winner in their own respect.
The note has much more of a "tablet-esque" functionalities to it with handwriting recognition and such.
S3 has only standard android handset features plus the newly demoed items which are unrelated to a tablet style larger screen interface.
For me the question you need to be asking is "do i need tablet functionality and screen size more than i need processing/graphics power and the new added features in S3's touchwiz (smartstay, svoice etc)?"

Huh? I think the answer is clear which phone you want.
It would be extremely handy to have som release information on the next Note, now. I am considering getting that instead of the SGS 3. I have the SGS 2 and the only thing I miss is screen real estate. And lots of it
I like to consider myself objective when it comes to reviewing electronics. I am a fan of the Nexus line because I like the immediate updates, and I constantly flash new ROMS. I still own my Nexus 4 and have been extremely happy with it. As far as the differences between the N7 and the Note 8.0 they are almost two completely different devices. At work I use my tablet for looking up manuals (PDFs), navigating while flying and as a daily planner. At home I use it to surf the web, read the news and watch Netflix. I DO use the s-pen on a daily basis. I am not a big gamer on my tablet. Here are my thoughts between the two devices.
Screen:
The screen on the Note 8.0 is unique in that the specs are lower than the Nexus 7, but it performs outstanding. It is noticeably wider than the N7. It is much easier to view web pages and also use as a GPS with my flight maps. I do think you can notice the pixels slightly more when reading text but not even close to the extent of that on the Note 10.1 (I have used one a few times). I thought the 10.1 was completely unacceptable. It is almost like putting a matte screen protector on a Nexus 7, it adds a slight pixelation. The odd part is the despite the decrease in pixels from the N7, movies are so much clearer on the Note 8.0. Samsung does a fantastic job rendering videos and HD content looks fantastic. I am sure the colors make a difference, but content is fluid, fast, bright and crystal clear.
Color:
Colors are outstanding on the Note 8.0 compared to any other device I have used. Overall brightness is higher and the colors pop (without the burn in possibility of a Super Amoled Plus). The screens runs on the cooler side with whites, but that is how I prefer them. The tablet comes with a "reading mode" that makes whites more on the warm side. Samsung states that this is to reduce the strain on your eyes and it truly helps. I think this mode allowed Samsung to keep whites on the cooler side without risking people not buying the tablet for reading books.
Sound:
Sound on the note 8.0 as well as the Nexus 7 could be better. It is fine for YouTube however music Lacks dynamic range. This is fairly standard across the mid-sized tablet line-up. The Note 8.0 speakers are slightly louder and clearer than the nexus 7. One key difference is the Location of the speakers. The Nexus 7 speakers face aft where as the Note 8.0 faces the side. This makes the Note 8.0's speakers better for movies and YouTube. I have not really noticed an issue with the lack of sterio speakers. In execution the sound just appears to come from the location of the screen and not one side or the other.
Battery:
I get 7-8 hours on screen time consistently. It is slightly less than my Nexus 7 with on screen time. The Note 8.0 is much better than the Nexus 7 with battery drain with the screen off though. I average a drain only 1% per hour with the screen off.
Apps:
I use the ANote HD application for my daily planning. It has some flaws, but helps me stay organized. What I do not like is that Samsung packs a ton of additional apps that can not be uninstalled by the owner. This includes the app store, peel etc. All they do it take up space. Additionally you can not transfer apps to the SD card at this time. The S4 just got an update allowing it and I hope Samsung will update the Note 8.0 to allow this.
Camera:
I did not think I would use a camera on a tablet, but I have found a purpose for the camera on the Note 8.0. I use an application called "camscanner" and this allows me to take pictures of test flight cards, memorandums, business cards and organize them as PDFs. I can also attached the scanned pics into my ANote HD app. It works extremely well.
Conclusion:
The one thing I really miss is NFC. I used it between my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 to share pictures when WIFI was not available. I loved my Nexus 7 and only talked myself into getting rid of it for the s-pen, ANote HD app, and the price of $325 plus $25 Play Credit didn't hurt. After getting the tablet (my first Samsung product) I can say that I have NEVER liked an electronic this much. It works so well I did not even find the need to unlock it, which is good because development is still a little slow. If you think you will use the s-pen and can get a good deal like I did I would switch. I also decided to pull the trigger before the new Nexus 7 dropped so that I could still sell mine for a decent price. I Sold it for $250 with my Otterbox case so not bad.

I like my note as well, got it for 4 days. Although it does freeze randomly (while trying to text, the screen is unresponsive) but its really not that bad. I got it from best buy and they priced match with staples($350). I have about 10 days now to return and I'm hoping to hear more info on the new nexus 7. I plan on switching because I think 7 is a better size but this note is pretty nice (with the s_pen of course). I've disabled certain system apps so hopefully its a bit faster. I am running stock, and after my 15 days are up, I'm going to root ;P so they better release info on that new nexus!

I found your article extremely helpful in making a final decision on my new device. I came from a pre-owned Nook Tablet that I rooted sometime last year, so I can't say my standards were very high to begin with, but I had my heart set on a brand new device. This was to be the 1st brand new tablet I've ever owned, so I was torn between affordability & performance. Alas, thanks to your experience, I believe I've made the right choice. I couldn't help rooting & loading custom recovery the same day I received my Note 8.0 though. After removing the phone apk, I found battery life in sleep state to be amazing! Left my tablet alone for an 11 hour work day, and it was still at the same level as when I had left it (86% btw). Sorry for getting kinda "rambly" there, I did mean this to be a short thank you for sharing your experience. Hope someone else out there comes by your post and makes the right, albeit expensive, decision.

Same problem in n5100 stock firmware, seems a samsung bug in all note 8 models. Solved with n51XX Civato's kernels and custom rom. No more random freezes. now is the best tablet

I use my Nexus 7 now as my Kindle Reader. I've got one of the older Kindles and the screen just seems too dull for me. The 8 has replaced the N7 and it is a worthy upgrade.

I was slightly disappointed that you didn't rate the sound from the speakers. The Nexus has pretty poor audio output, I was hoping the Note was going to be much better.

I can confirm on my 5110 that Civato's kernel solved the intermittent pause issue. Still running stock ROM.

Not to quote myself, but it is important to note that from what I've read so far, if you go with *anything* custom (root, ROM, kernel, recovery) , Allshare *will not work*. I found out the hard way so I can't use my Miracast adapter with it.

Not a dumb question at all. It comes with 4.1.2 but a leaked 4.2.2 package is now available, which is what I'm running (rooted) with no trouble.
As a quick update I have noticed that using the power saving feature significantly increases the screen in time. In power save I average 7-8 hours on screen time surfing the web. Turning off power save mode decreases the battery by about an hour.

What settings were you using in power saving mode. Did you only have screen power saving on only? if so, thats impressive. if you had cpu power saving on as well, then i would expect to see a good 10% additional battery life under continual use as the CPU is limited to 1100MHz rather than the usual 1600MHz.
Still scouring for news on n7 refresh. Although the main thing why I like to get this note 8 is the s pen future. Any other devices offering similar feautures ? Or as add one? Review on note 8 with s pen is very few and even after trying many-many time at the shop I am not convinced that this is the best solution

When I use power save mode on I almost always have all 3 settings selected. I have not noticed a decrease in performance. The only time I run with the full processor is when I am multitasking or using photo shop and trying to check XDA etc. I am also running stock.
I, too, switched from a Nexus 7 to a Note 8.0. I have the AT&T model with LTE (got the promotion price at $199 on contract). I can honestly say that, other than the immediate updates that you get with a Google-built ROM on a Nexus, I don't miss the N7 at all. The Note 8.0 is a definite upgrade in terms of hardware. It's fast, Touchwiz is easily the best Android skin (and there are a number of things I'd love to see Google implement into the stock UI), and I love having LTE on the tablet.
Overall I'm a happy camper.

Im pretty much the same. I only take it off power saving if i know im playing high requirement games (real racing, horn, modern combat etc etc).
I would turn it off for drawing apps as well as i imagine that once you have built up a few layers and have used a few different pens it would start to takes its toll and id like my lines to be drawn as fast as possible with no lag. saying that, ive not had a chance to draw all month as ive been camping, had my girlfriends mums birhtday, my girlfriends birthday and this weekend, my mums birthday and have been out pretty much every day.

I am having some serious thoughts on what to get... Basically I am a software developer and I have a Galaxy Nexus, a Galaxy S1 some ond Xperia and a Nexus 7. It is time for me to switch to a new device as my daily driver. The options I have are Galaxy Nexus 5 and the Note 3. The Note 3 is more expensive with around 150$ in my country, considering the type of contract I am getting. The phone will be used for at least one year.
Nexus 5: well, no review yet. Price is reasonable in my country and has the new 4.4. The new android version doesn't impress me. To be honest I find the google experience pretty boring but I have to admit I liked receiving fast updates on my Nexus.
Note 3: I have been reading around the forum for the last days. I saw that many have problems with the home button, the battery life, the screen issues. I like the s-pen features but I am not sure how much I'll use them.
What advice do you give me ? What should I get ?

I'm using note 3 at the moment and my nexus 5 is on its way to me, will give more accurate impression once received.
Features I prefer nexus 5 over note 3
Design look and feel (massive improvement)
No TW bloatware (another massive factor)
Easier to carry around
More regular software updates kat 4.4
No lag freezing (hopefully)
Features I will miss coming from note 3
camera not impressed at all (will miss that the most)
4k video recording
Battery life
S-pen (just a little)
Multi screens (what a feature)
Large screen
Ext memory
Have you encountered any problems with the Note 3 ? Does it lag ? Do you have that effect on low brightness for dark borders ? How does TW bloatware affect you ?
Battery wise note has 50%more juice. Home button issues - do you mean the button moving around? It is not a problem, people are too much complaining about tiny tiny things they should never find unless they read about it.
Camera - i think nexus5 is way better than n3. Its not the pixels that matter, or software options. Nexus 5 camera is next level, focus is about 10 times faster.
Bloatware yes, samsung puts 700mb of bloatware that you dont receive on nexus. Not sure if anything of that is usable. But cyanogenmod should arrive soon!
I wish note3 had the new camera and with optical stabilization, then it would be perfect!
As for 4.4 - its just a number. There will definitely arrive new android versions fast on the n3, just that you have to flash it yourself and void the warranty.

I like Nexus because:
- The design of the device and the appearance of the UI is more appealing to me. I like to keep things on my phone looking pretty "minimalistic" with few colors and lots and lots of black. I absolutely hate the Touchwiz cartoony look and I always change everything about it, the process starts immediately on first boot of the phone. Everything about Touchwiz looks awful - the icons, the menus, the choices in colors, those horrible big green quick settings toggles in the notification bar. Stock Android is much much better when it comes to looks. The Nexus 5 and its software looks like it's been designed by a design team made up of adults who actually make cohesive decisions together. Touchwiz looks to me like the school project of a pre-school class where everyone can add their favorite color and everyone gets to participate and add their touch to the design. Little Johnny wants a big blue, round icon there - OK let's put it right next to Jenny's rectangular pink icon there and add Lisa's green toggles! Fun for everybody.
I like Note 2/3 because:
- The battery is bigger. I've never been this satisfied with battery life.
- The screen is bigger. Honestly after using the Note 2, I cringe every time I use my iPhone 4 (I keep it as my spare phone) or my wife's Galaxy S III. The displays are so tiny, I don't think I could go back. Not even to a 5" display.
- I don't like the on screen nav buttons of stock Android. I want the physical menu, home and back buttons.
- The S-Pen. I'm not a heavy S-Pen user but it has really nice features on the Note 3. I use it much more with my Note 3 than I did with my Note 2.
- Memory card slot. Seriously. I could not live without one.
- Removable battery - not a big reason but nonetheless it is nice.
I hate the Note 2/3 because:
- I get to a point where I'm never satisfied with the ROM I use. New stuff is released on XDA and I feel this pressing need to try other ROMs. All the time. Sometimes it seems all I do with my phone is restoring backups. With the Nexus I think that I would be more easily able to just stick with one ROM.. Maybe even the stock ROM, just rooting it.

Minimum 5 inch screen, preferably a tad bigger.
Key feature should be office workability, due to a upcoming promotion as a project manager.
So I need info from all sorts of documents on the fly. Including excel.
Does the note provide this?
For free time I love playing games and viewing movies.
Help appreciated.

U may have to wait for few weeks to get the full hands on review about this. Nexus 5. The specs r good. But we don't know about battery life, camera performance, and heating issues. Note 3 is good in these areas.

I am planning on using the Note 3 with stock firmware from Samsung... because of warranty issues of knox trigger. This would also help on trying to reproduce bugs that appear on TouchWiz platform easier. So, having stock on Note3 sucks performance wise ?

Note 3 is far better then note 2 for sure but is it the best ow no. It's a beast but not the best.
If i didn't have the Note 3 already i would be pretty tempted to buy the Nexus 5. It's half the price, here, with great hardware, Kit Kat, Google updates, etc. But those touch buttons (why?) on the screen are a no no for me.
Thank you all for replies. After doing a lot of reading on the Buyers remorse thread I see that most of note3 users are happy. The only notable problems are: very weak audio output because of the small speaker, the pink effect around black edges on low brightness settings and the wobbly home button. Also I see that the battery isn't so great.
I am really thinking what to get, as I said, the difference would be around 150$ in price.
If I didn't have N3 already I would have the N5. I had N4 previously.
N3 has plus and minus points.

the Google Nexus 5 is indeed a very good phone. Having switched from Nexus 4 to Galaxy Note 3 I can basically give you good explanations.
The Galaxy Note 3 has plenty more features than the Google Nexus 4 abd 5 which is great.
I would say the Note 3 wins everywhere against the Nexus unless you tell me you prefer smaller screen. In my case, the screen size was the reasob why I moved.
On the otherside, yes there are a lot of Samsung apps and that sucks to me. The Galaxy Note 3 can be rooted easily, so you can easy remove those bloatwares which make me feel more confortable that way.
On the other hand, I do prefer the PURE Androis that the Google Nexus has to the TouchWiz by Samsung because it uses way less resources.
The perfect phone for me would be a Note 3 with a AOSP Rom. (CyanogenMod or Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) because it would give the pure android feeling which means higher battery life, no bloatwares, faster updates.
Ok guys, some N5 reviews have appeared and to be honest, things don't look that good in battery and camera departments. Actually that was kinda expected considering the 2300 mAh battery and 1080p screen.
Now back to note 3, all the small things that bothered me (wobbly home button, pinkish black borders, bloatware) are not important anymore. The things that worries me most is the screen burn in. I saw some reviews where this is mentioned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3mbkoXCMhs&feature=em-uploademail from 19 minute). I have own so far a Galaxy S1 and a Galaxy Nexus both having amoled screens. On my GNex sometimes I can see the keyboard shadow after using it, but I haven't really noticed any permanent retention as it goes off after a few seconds. I just did a quick check with blue color all over the screen and I can see a very faint shadow of the top bar, but nothing really noticeable. BUT, I use the phone on auto brightness and considering that Note 3 has the most bright amoled display built, I am afraid that it will suffer from permanent burn in because of blue pixels. Could anyone tell me if they have burn in ? This is a major drawback for me and might be the point which may convince me to give up on note3 in favor of N5.

Do you need/like the S-Pen features (and do you actually use them)? Do you need the bigger screen and the amazing Full HD @60fps video (let alone the 4K)?
If not then the Nexus 5 is a no brainer at this price point. Plain and simple.
Apps and bloatware are of no importance to me. I always remove them to my preference, to me flashing ROMs is an integral part of a smartphone like Note 3.
I agree with you, but if the screen has issues than all the other features are pointless, considering that the screen is the thing we see most.
It would be really great if owners could do some screen tests and return with the result.

I am in same situation but specs are really a boost from note 2 but major flaws of nexus 5 are storage and battery life....though I really want to see the display comparison....is the nexus 5 display better than note 2's...I know its 1080p compared to 720p but I really saw some 1080p display looking worse than 720p's like xperia z1....
I will wait for some reviews and then will decide is it worth to upgrade..

And the answer is no way to abandon my Note 2.
Performance on the Nexus 5 will be superior. That Snapdragon 800 screams.
The main issue is battery life. A petty 2300mha battery for a 5 inch 1080p display... It's going to suck.
Screen is slightly smaller with more pixels. But it won't be as jumping with colors as it's an LCD type screen vs our AMOLED screens which pop with colors.
The performance will be much better on the Nexus 5. Better processor. Same RAM. Better GPU. More FREE ram at boot.
Now, if I didn't have the Note 2 and I were to buy a new device, I'd get the Nexus 5. But I think the Note 2 is superior FOR MY USAGE. The SPen helps a lot, and the extra screen is great. The screen is plenty packed with pixels for my usage, too. The 2GB ram is great. In fact, the Note 3 having 3GB isn't an upgrade as you have LESS FREE RAM AT BOOT than the Note 2! WTF Samsung! haha. Anyways, RAM is taken care of by the Android OS. But Samsung takes up too much ram to begin with.
With Nexus devices you won't have that issue, as there is nothing at boot extra. It's only Android processes. So it should run much more smoothly. My Note 2 does stutter or lag a little every once in a while, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I don't know... Battery life on both devices are different. Smaller with updated processors vs bigger battery with less efficient display & processor? I don't know... Wait for some battery tests? Regardless, I've never killed my Note 2 in 18 hours except for my vacation days where I'm on a bus or train for 5-6 hours then I get it down a nice amount.
i was also thinking into a change to a nexus but the battery definitely make me consider having my note a year more. i bought the note for screen and battery and mexus doesn't win at any. moreover i dt know any game yet that doesn't run smoothly in the note and the screen difference is not that noticeable since my cousin has a 1080p screen and mine seems to be better also for him.

of course Nexus 5. Note 2 will get its last update with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. But you will have many updates with Nexus 5. If you are not a traveller person, don't think about battery life. Buy 32 gb model and live your days good.

Non removable battery (instant deal killer right there for me), small and non expandable storage (32GB vs the 80GB total on my Note II), small display (even smaller than its 5" since part of that space is taken up by the virtual buttons), no S-Pen, no Samsung SW features like MultiWindow = for a poweruser they don't even play in the same league.
Samsung is doing something very stupid with the Region Lock and something less stupid but that is pissing powerusers and geeks off with the Knox warranty status but the (sad) truth is that the Note III is the ONLY smartphone out there today which I would replace my Note II with. ANYTHING else is INFERIOR to my Note II.
I gass you have very big hands to use note 3 like phone lol

I will get a Nexus 5 for sure to replace my backup phone HTC HD2, and will also keep my Note II forever!! unless otherwise Samsung smoehow try to screw it up with an dubious update,(yes I don't trust them anymore),I've played with a Note 3 at the store but didn't find it much an upgrade to my existing Note II.

Well, If I were to buy a new phone and the Playstore sold hardware in my country, I'd seriously consider the Nexus 5.
But as an upgrade to Note 2? No way. Sure, it will run circles around the Note in the performance department... but I find that for my use, the Note's performance is sufficient (even though it lags now and then). Even for games, the lower res mens that pretty much everything runs smooth so far. And the lower res doesn't really bother me, as I find the screen of the Note 2 absolutely fantastic... better then that of HTC One, IMVHO. Xperias just can't compare. Sure some text zoomed out can be a tad sharper on 1080p, but otherwise the screen on the Note 2 is just gorgeous.
The S-Pen is usefull... especially for extending menus while browsing the web. That's one unique functionality that only a handfull of phones has and means that some webpages can only be browsed with these devices. Other tricks like video or gallery highlight thumbs are neat as well. And it's good for Excel editing too, especially during a meeting (otherwise it's quite difficult in a zoomed out view - only view in which you actually see a reasonable amount of data).
Storage? For me 16+64 GB is barely enough. Actually scratch that, 16GB internal is definately NOT enough (a bit more than 10 GB available...). I hope an update can allow me to use the external memory for apps. My memory card is almost full as well. So 32 GB altogether? No thanks (even with less bloat).
Battery? It's decent on the Note 2, but I wouldn't call it a stellar performer. So here we have a battery that's smaller by almost a third? And not removable too? I'll pass, thank you.
Plus, does the Nexus 5 even have the USB OTG capability? I remember there were some issues with the earlier models. I like to output video via MHL... love connecting an external USB drive or additional memory card via a card reader and it can be nice to connect external controllers via USB. Is Nexus 5 able to do this all?
Other stuff, primarily Multiwindow and Popup Browser are neat also. Hopefully even Pen Window will be possible on the Note 2.

Think of it this way. Only for a few minor hardware boosts and a new Launcher would you really want to upgrade ?
Note 2 still stands as a power house when compared. And if you like the idea of talking to your phone start using Google Now the experience will be no diff.
On the other thoughts I would love to upgrade to Moto X if ever get an opportunity

I am running the Ditto note 3 rom. .. With 4.3... Note 3 apps and installed the 4.4 kit kat apps on top of it. .
I also have the nexus 7_2013.. which will get 4.4 and is similar to nexus 5.. But I rarely use it. .
I use my note 8 and note 2 more
Why would I need the nexus 5 ?... Note 2 is good enough. .

Oh God! I think it makes no sense at all! Galaxy Note II is a pretty much older device which can still be compared to other TOP devices. Plus, the Note II has got touchwiz, and lots of Samsung applications which are pretty usefule. Nexus devices are a little too poor to me. I think that if you want to try out a Nexus device, you should try the Nexus 7 2013! I think that rocks. Got such a cool display, so incredibly fast and pure Google style. Plus: updates and other Nexus stuff.

It depends what you want in a phone.
I switched from the HTC One to the Note3 for one reason only. Screen size.
HTC One is 4.7inches
Note 3 is 5.7
Note has fancy eye tracking software, air gestures, S Pen etc.. The HTC doesn't.
No one can make the choice for you. Go get some hands on time with each and decide which you want.
Dollar for dollar, IMO, there's probably no better value for the money than the LG Optimus G Pro. You can get them unlocked for around $300 and they have:
5.5 inch 1080P IPS display
32GB
Micro SD expansion slot
3140 mAh battery (removable)
Metal frame (not plastic)
Built-in Wireless charging out of the box
13 MP camera that has a manual focus control (which I think is a brilliant feature) In most situations, the camera produces less over-processed images than the Note 3
I had one and sold it before moving to the Note 3, and I still think it was a bad move on my part, overall.

The HTC One is definitely nice.
I love the solid metal frame and the forward facing speakers.
But no expandable SD slot and the sealed battery is a deal killer for me.
Plus, the screen size of the note is just amazing!

I came from HTC one too. Now that phone is using my girlfriend. HTC was good device but note 3 is better. Better camera and battery and of course big and nice a sreen. I am very happy.

I have htc one and thinking of buying a Note 3 as I primarily do more reading on phone, the screen is too small for me. If you buying a htc one, make sure you are easily accessible to a repair service, like not buying from oversea. In case you have purple tint camera problem. I had it on mine and got replaced.
Note 3 is the worst note model but there's no better phone out there, got it?

since the note 3 is much more powerful.
And also what's already said here before, I really like the idea of changing or pulling out the battery.
So far I'm still very happy with my Note 3, despite the KNOX thing.

I own both and love them for different reasons. The build quality/design of the note and it's horrible software are it's biggest drawbacks. The One performs better in almost every way with general use i.e. the apps load in the blink of an eye, including the camera.
The Note has way too much of delay when doing simple things like loading the phone or messages apps, and the software design is ugly, sluggish and very dated i.e. no gestures or consideration for size of the phone in terms of menu options appearing at the very top of the screen. Also a lack of real estate due to the default dpi used by Samsung.
The camera quality is debateable. Outdoors in good lighting conditions, the Note wins hands down. But honestly, how often are we outdoors in optimal lighting? The One takes images in the blink of an eye, has OIS and great FOV which captures more in the frame. It is a much better all rounder with the best low light shots of any phone I've had.
The one only really falls short in two areas for me.
1) The battery is good but the Note absolutely kills it! Charge time is also a lot slower than the Note even though it's much smaller.
2) The screen is amazing on the Note. The One is fantastic as well but the Notes size is hard to let go of once you're used to it. It's such a great middle size that eliminated the need for a phone AND a tablet, in most cases. I also love the the contrast, saturation and deep blacks, it's very appealing to look at.
Overall, I think that the One is the better phone due to its superior software, build quality which rivals Apple, excellent everyday-use camera, stereo speakers and snappy UI and performance. But the Note isn't far behind. I would be able forgive it's build quality and rank it as the better overall phone if it weren't for Samsung's dated Touchwiz UI and crappy software. They really need to work on this in their next major release as it has put me off buying Samsung ever again.
At the end of the day, they're both great choices and I find myself switching between the two as I miss different things about each one. I'm definitely excited to see what the new flagships will be like in the coming months.
