First user with Note II - Galaxy Note II General

Hi
I just want to give you a forum user HTCMania, friend of XDA, has in his hand and owned the Galaxy Note 2, in this thread can follow the news and the questions that most people on the forum do.
You can see photos and videos, is 100% real, this person who had owned the Galaxy S3. He was the first to have it, two weeks before the official sale.

PD: If a moderator closes my post, which enter the reason and not close without saying anything. Is it for an alleged competition between forums? Censorship? I see a lot of news linking to other websites and blogs and it's okay to put source. I thought this encourages collaboration and information, if so, write the reason.

How does he get to own one? Where did he get it from?

Maybe he also has a galaxy camera?!
If he owns note 2 it's not that hard.

All of these companies have outside product testers. Back in 2006-2008 I used to product test Sony Ericsson dumbphones.

Not really all that impressive. My GS3 gets 6200 at 1.6Ghz on Stock ICS ROM.
The Quad Core Krait is supposed to run about 7500.

Not fair? Think about it.
The Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6Ghz Exynos 4, it should run just as fast as my 1.6Ghz Exynos 4 GS3. Not that hard to understand.
If you overclock the Note, what is that going to prove?? Nothing.

I don't HAVE a custom kernel. I am running a stock ROM/Kernel. I am using an app called Tegrak overclock. That's all it does.
So YES, you can compare them.

Are you really not able to understand what I am trying to say?
The only difference is I have a ICS ROM and the Note is running a JB ROM. Given the fact that both are running the IDENTICAL processor at the same speed (in my case), they should score pretty much the same.
AnTuTu would be a better matchup.
Who cares about overclocking the Note 2, that has NOTHING to do with the point that's going over your head.

The only thing you can do its do stock s3 to stock note 2 anything else does not counts.... This tegrak its third party stuff Wich adds extra stuff to the kernel so it's not equal conditions.... And you still have to post your 6200 quadrant picture proving it was on a GS3 stock + tegrak

I was right, you don't understand.
Stock for stock is NOT what I am talking about. I am talking about both processors running at the SAME speed. How is that so hard to understand?
My point is, is that the benchmark the Note 2 is getting at 1.6Ghz, is lower than what my GS3 is getting at the SAME speed with the SAME processor WITHOUT any fancy kernel or ROM.
My head hurts now.
I know these benchmark tests are 'subjective' -- especially because of the difference between JB and ICS, but still. With each new generation of phones these scores have kept rising. With the new Krait S4 going into the 7500 range, these numbers aren't as impressive as they seem.

So what's your point? That the S3 processor its better or something? Do you have the force GPU on developer section? That give you extra 200 points on quadrant... As I said we don't know under what conditions he performed the test... Take it as it is... Note 2 its twice better than s3 in everything

[I9100G] scaling_max_freq default the real reason why it has poorer performance?

It has been said on many sites that the I9100G has poorer performance, has only 1008 MHz max, etc.
While messing with the SetCPU setting, I found out that just keeping it enabled without overclocking at all (default settings) would make my I9100G get a very good score (6036) in AnTuTu, and it correctly shows 1200 MHz now, where it used to shows 800 MHz (it shows 1008 for some people).
The problem is that the I9100G seems to have a "bad" value sets by default to the scaling_max_freq, no matter what the governor is set to (even if I had the performance governor that should forces it to run at 1.2 GHz, it'd still run at a lower value than that).
For me it's being reset to 800000 every time for some reason, so the CPU rarely gets over 800 MHz value even if it needs to. I'm not sure if it's intentional or some sort of bug.
The value is in the following file:
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
It looks like SetCPU fixes the problem because it automatically writes the max value the CPU supports in the file (1200000).

Sure mate. Now I'm on stock lph beta ICS rom, there's no custom kernel for ICS yet
New quadrant:
Count that our gpu is capped to 267 mhz for battery savings and to avoid overheating but we can easily clock it to 400mhz maxstock frequency of mali gpu with tegrak Overclock.
Obviously in older roms Antutu scores about 5800 points
Can somebody post the score of g version? For compare the 3D & 2D that you talking about

Mmm weird. It seem this test are not accurate.
In quadrant g version show lower result meanwhile in Antutu g version scores a little bit more in 2D test.
3D test in Antutu its almost the same with 30 point in favor of the g version. Quadrant results shows a lower score for the no g version.
In processor test the g version wins in Antutu but lose in quadrant vs the no g version.
Another bench more accurate to test?
I think cf bench test how much java code can the phone execute.

Seriously you guys are comparing with benchmarks score? No need. 9100G only needs a diff subforum in XDA to help ppl from getting confused.
Its very subjective saying which one is better as there r loads of reason why scores r high and low and ppl usually shows their best luck score and not the super average benchmark result. If ur lucky that ur CPU could focus totally on the benchmark it should score very well when no mediascans or syncs, pushing/pulling and services.
And right on topic again, op discovered that its solved with SetCpu, so talk about it rather than arguing n stuffs. We all want to see SGS2 being good and superior. Hopefully this multi SOC issue wont happen again in SGS3 but prolly it will due to supply and strategy

I run this test just because I was bored. But our phone is ''NOT'' in the list. Its a different phone called wildfire ''S''
But there are many ways that can improve your score on the app (Don't see the point tho as phone is so old and without gpu) try different gov's eg. Performance and you can get a faster sd card eg class 10 (as it collects points for sd reads and writes)
My Antutu score is 932
CM7 build 14 (I find it the most stable one out there)
CPU MAX 768
CPU MIN 748
PERFORMANCE Governor
Compcache 18%
JIT enabled
Surface dithering enabled
Purging of assists enabled
VM HEAP SIZE 32m

Some Info
you can compare wildfires once you have benchmarked your own, under the ranking category, top at the mo seems to have a score of 6126 but that also has a CPU speed of 1200 MHz otherwise there are more realistic ones further down, but i mannaged 1087 score with my wildfire which is still on a stock ROM lol, but as stated SD card makes a difference, i have installed an 8Gb class 10 samsung and modified the cache. But none the less, i have a lot of apps and not much RAM free so i found my score supprising compared with other wildfires. And remember, benchmarks dont represent ability in day to day use or even heavy use, they just give a theoretical overview.
But if you do want to improve your wildfire with visible results and not just numbers, i would recommend some of the below
A Class 10 Memory Card
Increase the cashe size of the memory card (improves Read/Write) but not too far i have found problems at higher values apps like SD speed boost are nice
Task Killer, automatic ones are good and save you effort :L
Overclock and undervolt with a governor appropriate for your use, this gives massively improved performance on demand and save battery when that performance is not required
New ROM, athough i have not done this personaly there are many a report of speed improvements due to less bloatware on ROM's like cyanogenmod
Move apps to SD not so much a speed thing but if you have a fast card then it saves internal space with no loss in performance
Apps like Optimize toolbox, Set CPU and memory booster helped with these.
so i am sure if i flashed a new ROM i could get my score up to 1100 at least if not further and there are things i have not tried yet so i would not say a score of 1200 is out of reach and you could probably go further, but not 6126 as antutu seems to think :L
if there is anything i have missed please tell me and i will add to the list, hope this helps
Mine tested for fun as I don't give a monkeys about it.
HTC wildfire: LeWaOs
Too lazy to screenshot
Score: 856
ROM: KoolSense
CPU:352-710MHz interactive governor
Rempuzzle, 748-768 performance, however I normally use 176-768 conservative.

I think mine dropped after I installed many apps, during my "app rush" stage. That was when I was so crazy about apps since I had to limit myself on the Wildfire or I'd have to sacrifice one app to get another lol!
Maybe when I root this phone, after it gets Revolutionary S-OFF (Only option is HTCDev now which I don't trust) I can get TrickDroid or the unofficial CM9 Alpha10!

It's actually for the Novo7 Aurora, but the tablets are practically the same, save for the IPS display on the Aurora.
There's also a Ubuntu and ICS dualboot ROM, but that one does need a hardware keyboard atleast once (Just for the first login, you can get an onscreen one later)
Otherwise, the Elf II did come out recently, but that one doesn't have any ROMs yet :silly:

So was it underclocked at first or was it the stock clockspeed and you wanted to OC it?
It has a Mali 400 if I'm not mistaken, just downloaded ex tweaks to setup something else and noticed the Max gpu speed was 276 so it must have got underclocked somewhere along the way.

Kernels Performance

Hey guys
since i saw a lot of kernel for the beast N7100
and i think a lot of you may be asking which kernel to choose
i liked just to make a small comparison for those kernel via Antutu Benchmark
some of you care for the performance results, and some just want a balance Kernel
therefore i tested almost all kernel for the SAMMY based kernels and upload the pix for you
in this way you may get a better idea how might your phone look alike, But also you have to watch you Battery
All Kernels without modifications just flashed and tested with 1600 MHz

alright but now do some tests for battery life, i think thats no1 reason what people want in custom kernel
use every kernel for few days with "normal" usage and do screenshots every day of battery and screen on time when batttery goes critical. i planned to do that but kinda lazy
also it would be good to do some recording of wakelocks on every kernel.

if u mean one test for kernel, then yes
good comparison.. which rom where u using while doing the testing??
also which baseband and build?
This is so completely irrelevant to anyone but you. A single run of benchmarks is in no way indicitave of a kernels performance.
Anyone making the decision to flash a kernel based solely on a screenshot of some benchmarks should just stick to stock and save themselves the hassle.

Maybe thats ur opinion..when benchmark and kernels are never important there was no need to invent the benchmark. ...anyway ill try to contact phonearena.com and gsmarena.com and tell them to stop testing phones on benchmark ( useless ) becuase u said so. Thanks for ur pass

it is interesting someone post a result with 3d score 863 for a note 2. do you know what that mean?
Means overclicking so much isnt good with this kernal...and as u see I think its the only one have low value

They actually use repeatable tests. Or at least I hope they do. Not just you running the benchmark once...
If you want even a modicum of respect in the field of scientific testing, you'd have given the details of the ROM version in use, and also the process used to average the results over a number of executions.
Scientific tests are based across running one test multiple times without changing anything, as it increases the reliability of the results if they agree with each other.
Usually you can discount the lowest and highest result each time you repeat the same test, but then you need to average the remaining results. I'd expect that benchmarks should be normally distributed around the actual score.

Hey guys
since i saw a lot of kernel for the beast N7100
and i think a lot of you may be asking which kernel to choose
i liked just to make a small comparison for those kernel via Antutu Benchmark
some of you care for the performance results, and some just want a balance Kernel
therefore i tested almost all kernel for the SAMMY based kernels and upload the pix for you
in this way you may get a better idea how might your phone look alike, But also you have to watch you Battery

Omega Rom v16+SaberKernel:good:
Wow your scores are pretty bad. I use to get 19,000+ with ARHD and Perseus kernel OC to 1.8Ghz and UV down to -50mv. However, I also realised that if you keep benchmarking repeatedly one after the other you will get lower scores due to built up of heat and other factors such as RAM usage. So the question is: How long did you wait between benchmarking a kernel and what were the precautions you took before initiating a benchmark run? And what was the average score of each kernel?

if u take a look on the screenshots, u will see exactly the time and the average compared to the 3 oc 1600 1800 and 2000
Maybe re-run the test? Clear Memory, Kill apps before running each test?
Take the average of lets say 3 runs?

Nexus 4.performance drop

Hello guys a friend today bought a used nexus 4....I told him that this phone is really fast and nice.he has the galaxy note 2 and I told him that the s4 pro is as good as exynos and even better...so he did some benchmarks in quadrant it only scored 1400 and antutu 5.500.....so what's happening is there any change that he should make so it can run normally....is cpu underclocked?I don't Care about benchmarks but this was strange!

If it is warm performance go down. Try when it is "cold" and check if there is custom Rom/kernel.
Inviato dal mio Nexus 4 con Tapatalk 2
install 'system tuner' from the market and check cpu governor isn't set to 'power saviour' mode, if it is return it to on-demand
It was on demand I set it on performance in quadrant it did for a little good...but it never goes up from 20frames and it lags......I think its stock with stock kernel!

Only 5.500 in antutu?
impossible. something is not right.
I got 21500 (PA rom with Semaphore kernel).

no, its just the stock navbar within the system ui, the search and menu soft buttons are inside of the system ui, just not linked to the navbar. so in theory, to add those 2 buttons, i would have to go to the xml files and copy the instance where the back button is but change all references to back/menu. I was going to focus most of my development time on these mods but the 3.0 kernel source was released yesterday so i am working on a custom kernel. This means fully working ics roms. I am adding overclocking to 1.9 ghz, and some governers, the usual stuff.

the highest I have gotten it to go [while being ULV'ed] was 1.35Ghz
after being pushed any higher is would freeze and bootloop
really badly. This was when the Thunderbolt came
out and it still had Gingerbread with custom kernel.
I was able to get GB up to 1.6 by overvolting but like I said. You can fry it. Now if I go up that high it locks up instantly. Tbh oc up to 1.9 won't do you much good except drain the battery or screw the phone up permanently.

Totally agree.
I think the only reason you should have it that high is the "wow factor"
Now having it Under-Volted just a smidge is what I have always used..
You can't actually screw up your phone from oc'ing it, only ov'ing. Worst case scenario, it gets hot, freezes, and reboots... And you're right where you were before. I'm running mine at 1766 right now, all of our processors handle over clocking differently
Edit: running steady at 1920
Edit: aaaand it froze haha. Test your CPU's limits, mines 1766, what's yours?

Everyones processor has a different amount of wear and tear, the previous owner of my bolt never overclocked past 1.2 ghz so i can easilly run mine at 1.7 ghz stable, the option for 1.9 is there for those who can handle it

You indeed can ruin your processor running oc. It was intended to run at 1ghz and running oc at any level over what it was intended will shorten the life of if substantially. Lets not confuse people about that fact. It can be harmful for your processor.

I agree that it can shorten the life of your processor and ware it but your statement made it sound like if you select anything over 1.5 will instantly kill your cpu. That can happen with computers but in android if its clocked too high for the cpu to handle, the kernel panic makes it reboot so your processor doesnt in fact "fry itself".

Mine runs at 1.2ghz stock, since the JB update. I believe that these cpus are actually meant to run at 1.2ghz, but were under-clocked when released. So running at 1.3 or 1.4 ghz is really not pushing it.

I have always been an avid OC'er on any machine I have ever owned..
BUT just because -I- could not over-clock it higher didn't mean it was
a crappy kernel.. ALL phones are made differently no matter if it is the
same hardware profile or not...

I had a Samsung Moment and found this information out
it was a stock stocked at 600Mhz SPRINT OC'ed it to 800Mhz and
it could be OC'ed to 1.12Ghz without it freezing or being unstable.
So I know exactly what you are talking about when you said this..
