Anyone can port official JB from Tab2 7.0 to Tab 7.7 ? - Galaxy Tab 7.7 General

So it will be great

The hardware of 7.0 and 7.7 is not the same, it is not easy or possible to do that except samsung

Samsung is making us to switch for tab 7.0 for software smoothness lol

I installed the Nexus 7.7 rom yesterday, and it's as close as you get to stock Android imo.
Why not try that one ?

Its less smoother then ICS.

Going from first Tab to 7.0 Plus... do you think it is worth it?

I have the first Samsung Galaxy Tab P1010 with 2.2 OS and was considering getting the new Tab 7.0 Plus just to have it for 3.2 OS. Should I make the leap just for the new OS or is it not really worth it? Screen seems to be the same and size doesn't matter to me. Just wanted a few thoughts and opinons.
I wouldn't do it until ICS has been released for it and has been available for a month or so. I've already been burned once by no updates from Samsung, I won't let myself get screwed by them again. If anyone else releases a 7" or 8" ICS Tablet with decent specs anytime soon, I would look at them first before I would consider another Samsung Tablet.
A lot of ICS Tablets with lesser cost will be released soon and I strongly advice against buying Galaxy Tab plus now.

The original Galaxy Tab actually has a better screen than the plus (it is much brighter).

Really? I think it's the same screen.
At any rate, before you rush out and upgrade your Tab just for the sake of doing so, why not try rooting and flashing a 2.3 based ROM? The Overcome 4.0 kernel gives you a lot more battery life over stock 2.2, and then you can use that ROM or maybe others (I'm rocking the ICS-lookalike ROM).
You'll probably find that 2.3 will give your Tab a new lease on life. There are some good tablets on the market now, but there will be better ones if you can wait 6 months. Hell, the iPad 3 (*ducks*) might be compelling enough to jump over to iOS.
My tuppence would be to wait for the 7.7 ...it's imminent everywhere as I understand it. There are some people posted here with pics that already own it.
Id wait and see what the nexus tablet will be. Or wait for an official ICS tablet. Dont ever trust OEMs to give you updates and personally, Honeycomb isnt all that great or worth the upgrade. Do a CM7 with tablet tweaks and black out the buttons.

IPad 3 will be the hardware bump version. iOS still is nice but wont be much different for that tablet. The screen, Siri, RAM, etc and possibly a 7" version. That woild make me.buy one but not jumpship. Android is just to customizable to leave.

Agreed - Samsung not making ICS available for the firstgen tab 7 and SGS is an insult considering how well the CM9 port for the SGS1 functions.
ICS 4.0.3 RC1 on original SGS.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR7282CNv0w&feature=related
As an OG Galaxy Tab owner and the new owner of a Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, here's my two cents.
1. The screen resolution is the same, but the screen on the 7.0 plus is of better quality. The viewing angles are a bit better, the blacks are darker, and the brightness is better managed.
2. While I agree that cheaper 7in tablets are on their way, they are cheaper for a reason. The build quality, features, and attention to detail are always lacking on cheaper devices. Not only that, but even other premium device makers always struggle to match Samsung's build and screen quality in the tablet market. Samsung has also promised to provide an ICS update to the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.0 Plus, and 7.7. Samsung promised a Gingerbread update to the OG Tab, and they did manage to deliver even though the carriers in the US dragged their feet on pushing the update. Since the 7.0 Plus, like the 10.1 and 8.9, is wifi, updates are quicker. My 10.1 has had 3 updates since I bought it on launch day six months ago in June.
3. The Galaxy Tab 7.7, at least in the US, is tied to Verizon. This means it is to a contract, which is a sad fate indeed. I'm willing to take a .7in smaller, non-AMOLED screen in order to be free of the carriers. If you're in Europe or the UK, then the 7.7 may be an option for you.
4. The 7.0 Plus brings much more to the table than just Honeycomb. The dual-core 1.2ghz processor and 1gb of ram make the device much faster and allow it to run apps, games, and videos much better, and with much more ease than the OG Galaxy Tab. If you loved the 7in form factor of the first tab, then the 7.0 will feel sublime, mixing the convenient 7in size with a much thinner body. It feels lighter in hand and is nicer to hold for long periods of time.
Essentially, there is a lot to love about the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, especially if you were a owner/fan of the original. There are other devices, but at least with the Galaxy Tab, you already know what kind of build quality to expect. While Samsung did upset people by not providing the OG tab with ICS, you are on XDA, and ICS is already in the works for the OG Tab. It will run, and run well, so you could just wait for that. On the other hand, it will never run as well as it will on the upgraded hardware of the 7.0 Plus.
In my opinion, the 7.0 Plus is a very good upgrade option if you're willing to spend the money. I did, and I haven't been disappointed, (and I am very picky when it comes to my devices, to the point of being anal.) As I said before, just my two cents. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks. I actually made it manually with GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program. It's the open-source alternative to photoshop.) I started it one day after cleaning out my "tech graveyard" I usually try to update it as I get new devices.
Personally I don't think, you get too much more from that step. I'll stay with my SGT P1000 for several months (and use newer firmware than that provided by Samsung)
Well, I'd like to hold off as long as possible before buying a tab. When I last looked Samsung had released any updates for the P1010. Also the only custom firmware I've seen are for everything but the wifi only model. All I really want is to get it up to 2.3 at least.
Did you have a look at the rom section in this forum? If you don't mind too much for touchwiz, I'd recommend the OVERCOME rom to you, which incorperates many fine features plus android 2.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317384
Ice cream sandwich is on it's way for the tab, so I don't mind the plus ;-)
It looks like those won't work with the Wifi only tab P1010.
"Overcome ROMs/Kernels will NOT work with Latin American Tabs (the P1000L/N Galaxy Tabs)/CDMA-Based Tabs (If your Tab doesn’t have a SIM card, it won’t work…sorry!)/Wi-Fi Only Tabs (P1010 models!)"
if you were going from p1000 to plus, I wouldn't recommend it, seeing as I have good hope it will get ICS from our friendly devs. For the p1010 however, there is not much hope for ICS, so anything with HC or ICS is an upgrade.
I'd personally rather go all the way to the 7.7 though.
The 7.7 is hard to put down! I think the step from the old 7" to the new 7+ isn't that great, especially if you're flashing a ROM like Overcome. The bottom line is the screen and apps are mostly the same, save a few enhancements like the IR port and faster CPU. Although, the 7+ is a fairly good deal. If you flash a 2.3 ROM you may see a new lease on the 7" and then later the 7.7s (or other brand) will be widely available at a cheaper price in the US.

So I'm kind of confused on which tabs the Overcome will work on? someone Just wrote a few posts back that they were running it on there sprint tab? Isn't that CDMA? I have a VZW OG SCH-I800 Tab, will Overcome or any other Rom ever be able to port an ICS Rom to it?

They refer to Verizon. What about WiFi-only GT 10.1 devices? ICS this yes? LOL
The Verizon version will have camera drivers which are basically all that is lacking from making CM9 perfect.
I think it´s sad that the mobile providers are this slow pushing new software to their customers. Google already moved on to Jellybean :-/
Still no ICS? Bahhhh

ICS on galaxy tab 7" 2 - Does it work the same for us?

Hey,
I've just bought a galaxy tab 7" 2 wifi only for my nephew and this thing is working like 10 faster and smoother then TW... when we'll get the update will it work the same for us? (6800)
Was just wondering...
Have a nice day,
SK.
ICS has been released for both the 6800 and 6810, and the UI response is just as smooth as the tab 2.
I'm using the rooted HK version and kies \ device update doesn't update it to ICS...
Am I doing something wrong?

I have both - back to back comparing them both and my P6800 7.7 is way faster on ICS than the Tab 2 7.0 - the Tab 2 is nice, but definitely slower on bringing up settings menus, calendars and the like, and this is before any content has been put on the device - completely vanilla. The 7.7 is loaded with accounts, content etc and is a HK version running ICS flawlessly, wifi, 3g all are perfect. Mind you I am running Go launcher HD on the 7.7, and not many active widgets. One thing to remember is the number of pixels the 7.7 is pushing with its processor are far greater than the Tab 2.

ICS was only released in certain regions but I flashed my 6810 with the UK 6810 firmware.

Thanks for your reply!
@neilcbennett
Hey, Thanks for the reply but I was talking about the default TW UI... Other launchers are working smoother on HC as well...
It's just that I was comparing my 7.7 TW to a GT2 7" TW and the results were way in favour of the 7"... which sucks... So now I can't wait for the 7.7 ICS update hoping it'll improve the TW functionality on my tab

ill sell it and get a Tab 2 instead with jb.
even if we don't get GB< our tab's specs are way better than tab 2, even the tab 7.0+ has better specs than tab 2.. remember that tab 2 get the JB first since it went out with an ICS out of the box

not a good idea, our tab is way better. your giving up better processor and screen for JB that is ruined by touch wiz and most likely be just as laggy as stock ics on our tab? i don't see where you are going. Stick to our tab, performance wise there wouldn't be much difference and there are JB roms you could flash in our rom thats actually really good! Just my opinion
Tab 7.7 surely has better specs.
but software that makes the different now.
willing to sacrifice for software..
What if somebody with a great mind and come up with a custom rom based on Tab 2's JB. Would that be possible.?

GT7.7 + CM10 == better hardware + better software. Even the wireless works fine under CM10, while under stock it's completely unreliable. Plus, you get more usable RAM.

Using BSPlayer, I still haven't had a problem with codecs or hardware acceleration under CM10. Of course, YMMV (and the default CM10 video player is, to put it mildly, not very good).

Many people have recommend BSPlayer amongst others but still no good it seems that is needed to reconvert all my movies to mkv format. The only issue with that is that with half of the ones I own I was only able to convert them to wmv before being locked due to the movie studios restrictions. I have given up on any CM roms because of this drawback since the devs are not willing to keep the codecs from stock firmware.

Yep, there's no JB planned, but I'd reccomend WATCHING tryptosyll's builds closely. Stable and I really feel we might get a VERY nice 4.1.2
