I hope this event sparks samsung to do something - Galaxy S III General

I am hoping this event sparks a reaction with samsung which will be in our favor. Never know we might get something better in jelly bean a surprise or something lol Ay If I was samsung thats exactly what I would do, I'd hide it from all the leaks until the official is out and surprise everyone and because of all the hype on how good JB is, it will go news wide and give apple an even better competition. More Samsung sales equals less apple sales

What event?

the Apple event is all hype. One thing is for sure, we won't be impressed by the specs cause that's what android does best, having. The best specs.
I can't wait for this announcement to be over so we can put this thing behind us and look Forward to greater things to come.

i was actually anticipating replies on samsungs reaction prediction if any

"I hope this event sparks samsung to do something"
You mean like make the best phones on the planet right now, already doing that.

3 UK tweeted today that JB would be out in October on SGS3
#ThreeSoftwareUpdate @SamsungMobileUK announce Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) available on the #GalaxySIII from Oct-when we have info we’ll tweet. -- ThreeUK (@ThreeUK)
So that's something at least.

Is obvious that if someone start to annunce as official, all blogs follow that news.. But i want to see the official comunicate from samsung and not CNET sh** info

Well I think iPhone 5 will win in....
Camera (Unless they use iPhone 4S camera again then it will be on par with S3 and Note 2 which is not so likely...)
Graphic (PowerVR... Again unless they use 543MP2 again...)

you should be happy with the fact that samsung has done well enough to satisfy their customers, they are learning fast. Expecting too much from them is totally unfair

8mp or 12 mp really only means that the 12mp is a larger photo.
People are falling for that myth that more megapixels equals better well have a read through this

And with the graphics it will have to catch up a fair bit and then some more to be better

About camera....
GS3 and 4S is using the same camera module. If Apple does not upgrade, it should be already about S3's camera standards.... Its not about MP I am talking... Of cos for iPhone 5 if they changed the camera, it would not be lousier than the 4S's camera... So its a high chance it can beat S3 in camera...
About GPU...
PowerVR 543MP2 is inside the 4S. I didn't say it beats S3's Mali 400. Apple loves to use PowerVR graphics. And if they upgrade to lets say... 543MP4 (iPad 3's GPU), it will beat the hell out of Mali 400 and Adreno 320.... And getting 543MP4 is very likely IMO...

I was thinking the same thing this morning.
It would be so cool if Samsung would do an official release of JB for the S III later today or tomorrow morning... that would steal all the lights and attention from Apple.
Seriously... if Samsung did that, it would really piss Apple off.

No. SGS3 Camera is not the same as iPhone 4S.

Clarification added June 4, 2012 – we have seen some reports suggesting that we found it to be the same sensor as found in the iPhone 4S. The bond pad arrangement is not the same as the IMX145 found in the iPhone4S nor is it the same as the IMX105 found in previous Samsung phones. The initial opinion (subject to more analysis) is that the sensor is new.

iPhone has sold around 8.5 million. But 5 million for a single android device is pretty good.
Iphone 4 have 8.4 million units sold I think, but still impressive by Samsung. Apple isnt exactly fighting an uphill battle when launching stuff...

iPhone 4 has also been out much longer. Also remember this is ONE PHONE in the Android ecosystem.
If this trend continues by the end of the year Android sales will totally dwarf the iPhone 4 sales in 2010.

Umm.. I'd say it's a uphill battle..
Both RIM and Nokia are MILES ahead of Apple in smartphone market share currently. In fact, Apple's marketshare is only marginally more than Microsoft's at the moment. The difference is that Steve makes Stevenotes which are purposely written to portray the illusion that they are #1.

Galaxy S III - "Inspired by Apple, Made for iPhone Users"

I dont know if anyone else read the article on androidandme with some marketing guy for Samsung, but it was extremely disappointing. He acknowledges that Samsung needed to put out the best possible specifications to "decimate" the competition when they released the GS2. And now the market has changed and there are too many good spec phones out so now the market needs a phone with an amazing "experience".
To me this sounds like Sammy has abandoned the huge cult of people that bought the SII and made the company what it is today in the smartphone market. Instead they've turned their attention to trying to attract iPhone customers,
I dont know about you, but I love walking around with my Galaxy SII and slamming iPhone 4 users for not having the specs to compete. and slamming 4S users for having the specs and lacking the freedom to do anything with it.
I can't imagine going back to iPhone, everyone in my family owns one, and I'm responsible for it. I was an iPhone fanboy, which i dont regret. I have to admit iPhone ushered in the touchscreen era. But its us, the early iPhone adopters, who first felt the need for more and moved on to better things. We went to Samsung because of their track record, knowing that they were the ones supplying the iphone with hardware. And boy did they get it right, the Galaxy S2 needs no introduction. Its revered for its spectacular spec sheet, and even more, for its tremendous following (and it doesn't hurt that most of them are on XDA ).
So instead of catering to the people that were ahead of the curve, the ones that got sick of the iPhone and bought the SII, they left us hanging out to dry.
IMO this is why the S III is a disappointing FAIL, at least for the users that have ever found the need for a visit to XDA. This isnt to say that I wont buy the S3, I will... but I wont sell my S2. And that says a lot I think, it says that early adopters will always be early adopters. And the S2 wouldn't have been such a hit if it weren't for us replenishing the well. It definately wasnt a hit because of the "marketing department" at Samsung. [I dont remember ever seeing an S2 ad before buying it ]
And that's what shocks me most, instead of drilling deeper into the well, someone at Samsung convinced the company to drill a new well right next to Apple's.
Samsung, you're not Apple, you cant sell "magic", and you shouldn't want to because only stupid people believe in magic. You're customers are smart, we bought the SII because it was the 'shizzle' no matter how you put it. Focus on the hardware, innovate the cpu, camera, ram, screen [HD Super AMOLED PLUS!!!!!!!!!], build materials and design, then software [because we're gonna rip it out anyways, ]. Leave the selling to us, I made everyone in my family buy iPhones, and that includes extended family, relatives and friends. and guess what, now they're all buying Galaxy S II's because of me. I'm sure I'm not the only one like this or else the SII wouldnt have been such a hit. Focus on what we can sell, not what your marketing needs to help them sell [cheap gimmicks that may or may not catch on]
I'll leave it by saying this, "Samsung, let Apple worry about selling magic to the masses, you should worry about making products that sell themselves."
BTW guys, no boycott intended or anything like that. P.S. Dont hesitate to place your vote on the pole above, I think its interesting to see what SII owners think.
...I have to say that after reading some replies by people who have handled it, I'm getting a better idea about the S3. I'm even starting to think its underestimated, which is enticing to me for some reason. I'm glad to say that some of you guys are starting to shed some light on the things that Samsung left out. ie. Apparently the camera sensor is swapped for a capable low light shooter, and the video is greatly improved. This is what I really want hear keep it coming.
What?!
Seriously, I understood nothing you just wrote.
What does Apple have to do with Samsung releasing Galaxy S3?
Why is Galaxy S3 a failure and made for "Iphone costumers"? S3 is nothing like Iphone.
In fact, Samsung took all the measures to make it look a lot different than it's competitor, mostly to avoid more legal rights.
I agree with you galaxy s3 is sucks in design but it's free from any copyrights infringement that might somehow happen in the future (design, etc.).
I have a quote
"if you're smart you'll choose superior device with better hardware, higher utility, and more freedom rather than a "fruit" device..."

So, I read your text one more time. Tell me if I'm right:
So you are saying that Samsung should have included all those new software features on Galaxy S2 instead of releasing a new Hardware that, despite being "better", Galaxy S2 can still run everything without the added power.
Samsung should have made a better support for S2 instead of moving on to the next generation. Is that right?

Actually no, what i meant was that I like that Samsung made some improvements in the software, but I dont like that it prioritized the things that made the S2 great, so low on its list. I feel like samsung's priorities are: Marketing>Software>Design>hardware. Where it should have been: Hardware[Screen+camera+cpu+gpu.etc]>Design[not bad on the S3]>Software[not bad on the S3]>marketing. They should have spent less money on marketing because it was already the most anticipated phone, and devoting more money on developing and releasing new hardware [newer gen dual core might be better than the old gen quad core, people dont watch movies and surf the net simultaneously on their phones, although it is a cool feature], and design [already not bad, maybe more futuristic materials, perhaps even waterproofing?]. And it shouldn't have been that hard to know this, the world's blogs were bustling with hopes for the S3

Ohhhh, now I'm getting it.
Well, IMO they were focusing on a little bit better hardware to lower the price.
S2 is already a very fast device, improving it even more wouldn't make much sense.
Yes, improving hardware is a must for newer devices, but improving it too much wouldn't be necessary in my opinion.
It would increase the price too much and for me the biggest advantage of the Galaxy series (and Android for that matter) is the price.
Iphone has much lower specs and it still very expensive. I would never spent my money on it, even if I had enough to buy 100.
But I understood your point.
However I think Samsung focusing on improving the Software was a must.
Touchwiz 5 included a lot of custom rom's features that no company has ever included before like battery percentage, customizable lockscreen widget bar and notification window, etc.
These things would only be possible on custom roms like Cyanogen for instance.
It's great that they finally understood why people felt the need to root their phones and decided to include these famous features on the stock firmware.
I only wish that Touchwiz 5, at least part of it, came to Galaxy S2 at some point.

you make a good point, I know that what your saying is right. Price being important and all, and I will always appreciate software improvements [samsung does it well, the difference between touch 3 and 4 and now 5 is in the right direction]. but in terms of pricing i had hoped that due to samsung being the source of its hardware, that it would enable it to pass the savings on. whereas apple still has to buy all of its parts, which partly explains the price.

The problem is that you are speaking from the POV of a techie who knows his stuff. I myself was hoping for a dual core Krait/A15, however even Samsung said the average consumer will choose a quad core A9 over a dual core Krait/A15. So Samsung knows that the average consumer are idiots. LOL. (Rather like the people who think that a V12 Mustang is more powerful than a V6 Nissan GT-R)
The thing is software is one of the most oft criticised things about the S2. I have heard fruit users complain that its hard to use (whether they truly find it like that or its fanboyism I can't tell). Its good that they are working on the software front because software is just as important as hardware. If Samsung can convince a fruit user is just a intuitive as a fruit then its a victory.

Lol personally I'm feeling the urge for a new device so I will most likely be getting the S3. Then when my contract ends in October I will get the iPhone 5, sell it, and get whatever Nexus is out at that moment.
The other source of my disappointment is the camera on the S3. At least its a new sensor, but I wish they put a bright aperture lens on that... My S2 struggles in low light. Well, not that the One X doesn't even with it's F2.0, from what I hear.
Again, the S3 is a mass market phone. With the HTC One X screaming "FIRST TO QUAD CORE" it would be hard for Samsung to scream back "DUAL CORE KRAIT WITH MUCH HIGHER IPC AND 28NM PROCESS". The average Joe just won't get it.

I nearly chuckled when I saw this one.
I guess that means it must run Android then, because if it runs iOS it doesnt stand a chance of doing so..
Lets be frank here, it will look much the same as the current iPhone (boring), it will feel much the same to use (boring), it will be locked down and restricted like the current iPhone (boring), and will have the same (boring) baristas, emos are douches queueing up for it on day one. Ill pass.
Is it a ploy from apple to stop people from buying s3??

At this point Apple buyers are like BMW buyers, they will buy any old ridiculous turd as long as it has the badge on, so really statements like this are just sermons for the iSheep, and pretty meaningless to the rest of us. As long as Apple makes it they will buy it, why? because Apples says its best and therefore it is. Its almost a religion now..
But dude, it has an apple logo.

Some rumors I've read claim that it will be equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4.
I think that a good optimization can make the difference, placing Apple's smartphone between HTC One S and Android quad-core phones.
IMHO Apple will put a enormous capacity battery into the iPhone...
I guess since we're comparing a phone that will be out several months later that doesn't even exist yet; we'll compare it to another like phone... I'm sure the GSIV will put the iPhone 5 to shame then lol.

I cant see that, Apple will want their own CPU in there (and by that i mean a modified Samsung as the A4 and A5 were). It will probably have the A5x.
PErsonally I'm quite excited for the iPhone 5 and what it will bring.
Having had a look at the rubbish minor "new" features for iOS, I'm thinking Apple will have drastically improved the hardware of iPhone 5.
That is good for the whole industry
I'm sure the new iPhone will be excellent. Without new iPhones and new Galaxy's wouldn't it get boring. These companies need to push out great phones to keep giving us great products.

Exactly. Android fanboys are just as juvenile as iPhone fanboys.
Competition is good.
iphone 5 it may come at nov/dec this year end, Galaxy NOTE 2nd version will be out there with android 4.1 .......
poor apple fun still waiting / sleeping in front of apple shop queuing , as foxconn not able to deliever on time etc.

I don't think smarts has anything to do with it really. Rooting and installing ROM's is a whole lot easier than jailbreaking and using it's related tools, etc..
I just think the 'average' Android user and the 'average' iOS user could really care less..
every new device,if the job is done well, is goint to become leader at the time of its introduction it will be same with iphone 6 and then again with galaxy s4, etc.

I think it was a clever move by foxconn. The more people that get the s3 the less that will be available 2 sign up for a 2 year contract on the new iphone and the less orders foxconn will receive . And consequently the less money they make.
I personally think the iphone is easier for people to use who are novices. And it's more stable. However the s3 if you know how can do so much more.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Ok before I get started I would like to stress I am no fanboy of either apple or android... I simply like good products... So no flaming please.
Now down to business, the biggest problem with the S3 (yes I own one) is the fact that samsung (and all non GED devices to be fair) seem to forget the fundamental rule... Optimize the software to run effectively on the hardware. The galaxy nexus (Yes I own one) for me runs just as fast as the s3 in terms of web browsing and general use... Yes the animations are slightly smoother on the s3 but how is it possible for the browser to not have any significant speed improvement??
Fact of the matter is that apple will optimize the iPhone 5 to the extent that it doesn't need the hardware the s3 has to run as fast (rest assured as always it always does, will flatten the s3 in benchmarks and browser speeds).
Apple seem to understand that optimisation is the way forward and this is why the next Nexus is a no brainer... Touchwiz can do all it does but it will never run as smoothly nor work as well as AOSP.

On GSMarena you can.
I have almost made up my mind to get the iPhone 5, however just remains one last obstacle to overcome, my wife, as an iPhone user herself she thinks that its too small for me and that the original Note which I had fitted me better! ! .
Anyway we shall see once both are released.
Here is a side by side size comparison:
http://versusio.com/en/apple-iphone-5-64gb-vs-samsung-galaxy-note-2
I stopped reading that link you posted because it looks like a 13 year old made this comparing page:
Has a built-in HDR mode Yes vs No It can automatically shoot pictures with an higher dynamic range (HDR)
ummm who cares? get an app on the note 2??? the list goes on like this, it should be renamed to stupid reasons for someone to buy the iphone 5.
I mean, scroll down more and you see manual ios lol....
why is everyone comparing to the iPhone still? while they may sell the most due to people either being invested in ios or for cult like reasons, i really don't see them as the standard anymore. comparison is great for specs but i'm just tired of everyone regarding the iPhone as the standard. Iphone 5 is already getting very ****ty compliments from experts.
We will see iphone 5 will be major flop. that time apple will know peoples are not fools now that time has gone when peoples became idiots from the name of apple.
And I am wondering where is those 200 changes are in ios 6
You've got to be kidding..major flop? The IPhone 5 will sell 25% more units than any release of any smartphones in history.....between now and Dec30 the IPhone will sell more than every Samsung phone COMBINED.
(trust me!)

I hope your not being serious because if you are, you probably have no idea what the scope of any manufacturer sales numbers actually are. The ip5 will sell a lot, but you are extremely exaggerating, which makes you seem a little moronic.

I don't understand why are you people even argue about whether iPhone5 will sell more or less. It's not like Apple will just shortly release the number. (not unless it benefit Apple) And quite frankly, I think it's kinda stupid comparing iPhone 5 to Note 2. Clearly iPhone 5 was aiming to go after GS3. Seem like Apple is a bit running behind S3. Also, the comparison doesn't even mention the use of Stylus on the Note 2, which one another main feature other than large screen.
To argue with that, iPhone 5 aims to be better than 4S. As far as I can see, only Samsung puts up ads comparing its phones to apple's.(I stand corrected if you show me an apple ad that directly makes fun of Samsung). iPhone 5 shouldn't be compared even to the SGS3, I think it's time iphone and android are considered different products for different people(sgs3 is significantly larger than any iPhone, some people might not like that). Others like me are quite deep in the whole iOS ecosystem. I have a lot of apps I use daily for both OS's but my time on iOS might make me miss some stuff. The thing keeping me motivated for Note 2 right now is the memory of how awesome videos were on the GNex, I can only imagine a proper screen the size of my palm playing a video.

No, Apple just sues and takes money directly from Samsung instead of letting their device sales speak for the quality, haha. Although, I think during the iPhone keynote they did take a few jabs at android devices. I agree with you, though. I really don't see the two devices in the same class. Me and my girlfriend are both due for upgrades. I'm getting the note 2 and shes getting the iPhone 5. We both use our devices very differently and I'm sure we will both be happy with our new phones.

you must not know that the GSIII outsold the iPhone 4s .. i'm pretty sure it'll outsell the 5, and the Note might too since its on all major carriers like the GSIII. i'm not an Android fanboy, but the iPhone 5 is a lot of hype. they took features we've had for a while now and called it revolutionary. e.g.: panorama shot .. i can do that on my 2 year old Desire Z / G2.

Fixed.
First of all a few of you sound like children. For Android fans who consider themselves "enlightened ones" it's quite comical that you constantly have to take shots at Apple whenever possible. You're posting at an Android haven yet you've just got to take shots just because. Why can't people just grow up and not post like assholes whenever it becomes necessary to make comparisons? Also are you all really arguing about sales? Do you own stock in Apple? Samsung? Are you a part of either of their marketing, engineering dept., or another division of their company where sales will reflect on how well you did your job? No? Then how the hell do sales figures of a single device make a difference in your lives?
Say what you will about Apple, but at least they can pull off a unified launch. The 16, 32, and 64 GB versions will all be out on release. I have no idea how long I'm going to have to twiddle my thumbs to wait for the 64GB note.

Also, even if it were still a 4MP camera, it could very will be a completely redesigned, or at least tweaked, sensor that would perform better than the current one.

Same boat here. I ditched HTC after the 3D and the One was their final chance for me. This camera sucks beyond comparison. Makes the phone only a fraction of what it should be (yes I've had my device replaced). Only nexus devices for me from here on out. I'll pass on HTC's crappy radios and cameras.

Everyone is so friendly with each other .... so I thought I'd chime in with my own opinion. Name one device that any of you have used that the camera actually measured up to what they say it will....anyone? I especially love how the N5 fanboys in other posts had the balls to say the N5 had a better camera when it is exactly the same as the last one, and yes, I owned an N4. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with everybody that these companies should stop crowing about how great their camera is when it ain't, but GET REAL. As I have said before somewhere around here, when it comes to new devices, COST IS A FACTOR. Soooooo, would you rather have the same camera or the same processor? Same cam or the same screen clarity? They know they have to cut costs somewhere, this is where it happens. GET USED TO IT. It ain't no greener in the other dude's yard. If the camera is that important, buy a Nokia. The camera is the only thing about that device that's worth a s***. My two cents, flame away....

The camera in my HTC Evo 4G LTE was amazing. I used it at work all the time, and my co-workers refused to believe that the pictures I emailed from job sites were taken with a phone. It made my brother-in-law complain about the pictures he got from this GS3, which looked crappy by comparison. That phone was largely the reason I "upgraded" to the One. There have been a few incidences where the low-light capabilities came in handy, but overall I've been fairly disappointed by the "ultra-pixel" results.

Yeah, I hear you. My ONE takes great pics in near-perfect conditions, crappy ones in bad. But, my experiences with the N4, LGOG, and the ONE, not to mention my wifes GS III or any of the iPhones shes had (4, 4s, and 5) were really no better. I have just been resigned that the cam is one place that smartphones will lag until costs come down. Or until I can afford a 1000 dollar device. Have you guys seen the Lenovo?
http://shop.lenovo.com/ae/en/smartphones/k-series/k900/
http://www.thedostore.com/smartphones/k-series-k900-steel-grey-32-gb.html
...and I'll bet the cam aint that great on that badboy either lol
To keep the same camera says that there would have to be more people that like the camera than not. Most people come to forums to complain but that's a small percent of the overall user base. I still have my evo4glte and the ones camera outperforms it. If they left the camera the exact same and said it was 8 or 12mp people would all of a sudden say it was better just because of the number.

At the very least it's worth waiting to see what will be available....unlike the PS4 vs Xbox One, which was crystal clear early on who the front runner was.
There are also rumors that it may have an octo core processor. Maybe outlandish but we shall see. Maybe they include a 20mp or 41mp camera like the lumia.

Truth. I can only assume people have been smoking some pretty potent weed lately because they complain about the cam sucking yet it's one of the better cams on Android devices. Whenever my brother needs a pic he uses my One instead of his EVO LTE. Go buy a Nokia or iPhone, maybe G4, but don't go whining about a Nexus being the solution because it isn't. ll this crying over an article that only had an early spec leak for a prototype, and it doesn't give any info besides MP? lol c'mon guys, get real.
They really do need to innovate in the camera department. The same bull camera will be a fail.
