Hi fellow SGY users
Before making a new thread please read here
Now as you may have noticed there are several questions flooding this sub-forum,
that has been asked a million times,
So let us all be a responsible "NEW USER" and not a "NOOB USER"
I know some of us are new and are not oriented properly on how you can maximize your time by using the alrighty search button,

SEARCH BUTTON!!???
yes, that is correct,
the search button...
no, it is not sorcery or magic,
it is a tool to help everyone out, that is the reason why xda has spent money making a search engine for us to be more convenient in finding what we seek,
so let us not neglect what xda has made and let's utilize this search engine,
its not a benefit, its a privilege
for those that does not know how to use it,
let me help you,

So tell me what are the benefits of using this so called "Search button"?, I mean I can just create a new thread and wait until somebody answers my question
Well,
- You can find the answer for your questions faster, since not all senior members, RC's are available all the time and some won't even answer you because it has been already asked again
- You'll help other newbies by orienting them about the search button
- We'll have a clean and uniform forum, a perfect community which all of us can enjoy
-Mods will have less headaches deleting posts and threads that are considered useless
-No one will flame or call you noob (YEY!)
-It will reduce arguments and flaming within the thread

HOW TO MAKE A GOOD QUESTION...
Stupid as it may seem,
There is a good and bad question,
so here are some tips,
-NEVER EVER PANIC!,
i know some of us are new and have no experience with android, and suddenly we did something wrong and our phone got bricked...
please don't post:
"Please help my phone is brick, Im desperate!!!!, help me please, i dont know what to do!!!" (Dont ever do this!)
Do it in a proper manner like this:
Make sure to write every detail you did before doing something so that you can narrate what happened and hopefully we can try and fix it
"Please help me, I tried to flash XYZ rom and when i tried to install it using recovery mode by Vol Up+Home+Power i get a successful install message, however when i turned on my phone it got stuck on bootloop, can u help me with this?, i tried download mode Vol Down+Home+Power and tried odin too but it does not work

-LIST OF ALREADY ASKED POINTLESS QUESTIONS
What is the best rom?
What is the best kernel?
What is the best launcher?
What is the best apps for xxx?
- basically these are all dependent of the nature of the user, there is no best rom, kernel, launcher, app since we all have our own preferences so its endlessly pointless to even make or ask threads
How to get paid apps?
-warez are not allowed on xda
When will ROM/KERNEL XYZ be released?
-any rom/kernel release question should go to the development thread, also its rude to ask for ETA's (estimated time at)
I saw that CM ** is released on XYZ is please make it work
-NO, please look at the development thread to get into the real condition of CM ports, if its not here, its not real
X Rom vs. Y Rom
-Same reason as asking what is the best rom, its really up to the user preference

There are really a lot of people who wanted instant answers.. You can also add <SEARCH KEY> XDA and type in to GOOGLE.

I RECOMMEND ALL NEW USERS TO WATCH THIS
(NOBODY'S A NOOB OK?) ITS JUST FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES

dude just a suggestion,,, change the yellow font color to some other color... hurts the eyes when reading it:crying:

Additional Suggestions for New Users Posting Threads
Here are a couple of suggestions:
1. Make your thread titles meaningful. I know this has been said many, many, many times before but some users really don't have the notion as to what the purpose of thread titles are. Some even make titles which are highly irrelevant. As much as possible, your thread title must be consistent with the contents of your post. Don't be afraid or lazy to describe your content with a few more words.
2. Use tags. This ever-underutilized feature of the board needs exploitation. For those who are not aware, tags help users find relevant information more easily. You'll get more thanks if you tag your posts because the chances of someone searching for information to hit them are higher, trust me.

nicer...........KEEP FORUM CLEAN. BE FORUM FRIENDLY.

SPB mobile shell 3.0 skins

I think its about time to start this topic. So who will be first???
Now that was week, mvp84. Now you own the first post ( THE INDEX ONE ) in a topic that you don't seem to handle by far. (you now have 11 posts in all of xda and counting) Are you going to index and tide up here? Are you going to handle the thousands visiting here? And .. why havent you done the first skin? Because you can't? How are you supposed to help the thousands of visitors then? Only fair questions here. Step up or step down....
Why did'nt you leave this up to the developers and skinners? For the firs post in a topic? God what a MESS this forum would have been if everybody did what you do.
Last question: THIS IS A RULE HERE AT XDA. DON'T POST UNLESS YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO DEVELOPMENT. ARE YOU?
Moderators? Please.

That really isnt the type of contribution that we need here either. I made about 50+ posts before i ever made a real contribution, let alone went almost a year before ever making a first post. So do not judge someone by post count or what you feel is useful or not. Half of the good things that come from us here at XDA is just in ideas that lead to great things.
So i say bring on the shell 3 themes!

It's ID10T's like this that give this place a bad name. Go crawl back under your icecap in Norway. Btw, what have YOU contributed???
I also eagerly await Spb MS 3 skins!!!
It might not be right what he did, i'm not here to judge but it is really the time to talk about it. Since the default skin is not very impressive maybe some skiners are willing to start building some. I want to install the new version but thats not going to happen as long as the only skin out there is the default one. Besides the functionality i want my phone to look good as well.
here is my contribution stay on topic and perhaps folks can post a list of what they know to be files that are easily changed to mod some of the basic graphics in SPBMS3.

My point was to get the subject rolling... And here you can see first moves. If any one think this topic is completly useless, then I will agree to whatever mods will do to it...
ps. I wonder what would you say if some Senior member with 30000 posts opened this thread (even without posting new skin) ... I bet my head that you would be: YEAAA! LETS BRING NEW SKINS!! Am I wrong??? Nevermind! Close the topic or stay on it! No more posts about the idea of opening it, pls...
Wonderful. Another argument.
mvp. there is no difference between a 30k post member and yourself. It is tho, suggested, that instead of opening this thread to just suggest the creation of SPBMS3 skins, you, or whoever else that designed one and would like to keep it neat, would open it.
No hard feelings. I will now close this thread. If you (or anyone else for that matter) is willing to open a new thread, with a new skin, and is willing to keep it tidy enough, I will sticky it since this is gonna be a huge one and it's preferable to start it without a bunch of argumentative posts.
I will also EDIT the thread created to contain the rules on posting the skins (just like in the M2D thread, which is tidy and doesn't contain lots of posts since I delete posts which aren't new skins).
Good day

May I suggest to rename "Android Development" to "Junk Yard" ?

Hi All,
I'm not trying to be the forum police here, but I notice more and more irrelevant topic posted there in Android Development section. There are topics ask for general enquiry like can't send mms after flashing new rom (cause of missing APN setup), some posting his/hers GPS issue or survey etc etc.
There are very few real development topic posted there. I appreciate very much contribution from Lagfix developer like RyanZa, Voodoo. theme creator like Tayutama, Doc.
But mixing the section with other posting will slowly cause information searching difficult.
Either we rename the section or we really need think before we post a topic.
Just my 2 cents.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I totally agree.
With all due respect, where does http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=738589 belong? You posted that, but it isn't about development.. Developers already know what Froyo advantages there are, and a video doesn't help them, because it doesn't explain the new API's.
The problem is that the sections aren't well defined, and should probably be renamed.. Development should maybe be renamed to "programming" or Patch/custom rom development (to make it a lot more aggressive). There should maybe be a Testing section, and descriptions for the categories should be changed a bit.
Because one would think that testing GPS for a new rom might seem relevant to new developers (but in reality doesn't belong in there, unless you plan to fix it).
I'll also add that whilst I've seen a few of these posts, I haven't actually seen any complaints by developers themselves. A better strategy might be for you to contribute more, so that the harmony of the forum is restored?

BEST idea ever, I think :
[Releases] Android Development
[Q&A] Android Development
Good Idea? Hit me if not xD
I think we should have a new sub forum for Android Development Q&A, I do get wound up when all I can see is help threads when i'm looking specifically for firmware modifications. But, I don't let it worry me and I still tend to help people even if they are posting in the wrong place.
Do not let this Thread die, i really want to get the Forum cleaner!
HTC tatto Android development should be an example, totally agree...
Sent from my HTC Tattoo using XDA App
we have a lack of enough Mods to keep an eye on all the sub forums, so i don't blame them
most people posting they don't even read the rules, and post where they feel like posting, and that's the problem

Some people might misinterpret this though.. IF you specifically change Development to Programming, it probably locks it down more to code..
Q&A for development is probably wrong though.. Maybe QA (Quality assurance)/Testing? Because the real intentions I feel should be to separate mod development/coding from people screwing around reporting bugs in new ROM's, etc. At the moment, testing of official samsung ROM'sand reporting of problems can fit in a few categories realistically. And that's the problem.
But it doesn't actually bother me honestly. But it would be nice if the forum names were a bit less ambiguous

Well that is what I would suggest too (maybe Android Development and Android Issues). And have a restricted topics creation in Releases so only developpers could post.
I think the problem here is the following, Im no coder so nothing i know about coding or anything but if i for example want a new ROM or check if there is something new to download and flash, i really really can't find much in the current state. Too much questions laying around most of them even unrelated to Development.
I dont care about how they are named, just do something about this. No more problems finding downloads please

Very easy 2.1 root app in market

Sorry if this has been mentioned previously but i found a very very easy app in market for rooting our 2.1, its an app called
z4root. Its similar to the an app which was available for the 1.6 fw. I thought I would mention it as some other people as well as myself found it a pain in the ar*e to keep trying the superoneclick program which loops. I tested z4rout on my worldwide generic 2.1 no problems. I even tried unrooting and re-rooting using this app and no problems. If this has been covered/mentioned please close this thread, just thought I would our back just a little from what u have taken from xda over the past year ;-)

Androidfanboi - don't start a flame war. XperiaX10User has been around here for quite some time and has contributed extensively to this community. I agree he could've been more polite in his response, but the fact of the matter is that forum users everywhere (not just on XDA) have to learn to use the search function. Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

Are you like a wannabe xda forum moderator, because all i ever see is your name policing everyone elses posts whether they are asking a question or just trying to be helpful. Have you actually ever contributed or do you actually just rack up your post count from purely policing everyone elses contributions? either way at the end of the day

Hey, Can you please shut the hell up?
It doesn't matter if he is a mod.
He is following the rules and is trying to help you follow them.
You are just one of those idiots who think people telling you not to do this because it is in the rules are automatically "wanna be's" as you dim witted people say.
So what if he doesn't have a job but he can get a job on the net.
You should get off the computer and get some shine.
Now now, I understand you will say what about you your in front of a computer posting this.
let me tell you that I do get sunshine everyday.
Now go off and get some sun shine...
I don't care if its night time there go and get some fresh air then.

The problem with his immature "get a job" remark is that he's clearly unaware that some can't work for a number reasons, or some people work from home, some people don't even need to work.
Which is why he should "keep his comments to himself" as he "dont know much about me".
Xperiax10user, I have seen from various threads in x10 section, u contribute heavily to x10 users in various ways. Yes I rushed in when I found this app and was so excited I and other users wouldn't have to toggle debugging to avoid looping superoneclick root method but that still doesn't excuse the fact I should have searched. With that said, your reply may have been better received by other forum users if your reply was more polite?! Thank you for your other contributions and I will search in future.
MOD, PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD

To give it an end...
XperiaX10User is one of the best Users here... he helps a lot, is very nice and so on.
So why are you interested on his job? This is a forum and not a job-center or something else...
Btw... to originalaaron: i didn't have to toogle debugging on and off...

New Forum Mod -Read Before Posting-

Hi all,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my user name is original_ganjaman. I have been assigned to moderate this forum.
My goal is to keep this forum as clean and easy to find what you need as quickly as possible. I ask you to help me by posting in the correct sections.
Please only post ROM Development, Hacks, Mods, Fixes and Tutorials in the development section, all questions go in Q&A. This prevents the development section getting clogged up by irrelevant posts.
When posting in the development section, please try to provide as much information in the thread title as possible. It makes it easier for users to find what they are after. Here is a example provided by ooie.
[Type][Date][Model]Rom name here[Android/Linux kernel version number][Beta/Alpha]
Click to collapse
Resulting in the thread title looking like this:
[ROM][Dec 13][U8800]OOIE rom v0.1[2.3.7][BETA]
Click to collapse
If you see any thread that is in the wrong section or if you see any questionable posts, please don't hesitate to click the report (
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

Please post any sticky requests in this thread.
Lets all work together to make this a fantastic forum
Any word about splitting U8800 and U8800pro? The ROM's for U8800 don't work for U8800pro and vice-versa.
I'm glad we got someone who is active here .

When i was assigned this forum i read through some of the threads. I did notice this was a common question. I as of yet have not been informed of any split. For now you will just have to live with it, But i do see the frustration. This is not the only device with this problem and i am sure it will be addressed as quickly as possible. When i hear any news i will post.
I will be keeping a close eye on this forum and would appreciate any help.
Peace!
Its a really good thing we get a moderator that has time to do his job. Welcome to U8800 forums!

Could you enforce some sort of mandatory thread naming requirement for this subforum? I see a lot of people complaining about it.
Something like
[Type][Date][Model]Rom name here[Android/Linux kernel version number]
Click to collapse
for example
[ROM][Dec 13][U8800]OOIE rom v0.1[2.3.7]
[Kernel][Dec 8][U8800]Superfasthyperkernel 1.0[2.6.35.7]
Click to collapse
(and maybe add a tag if it's experimental or in an alpha/beta phase)
This is just one proposal, but I think would make it much more easier for everyone. Please state what you think.

Tell me about it, just been sorting it all out. I personally think its a good idea to have some kind of mandatory thread naming system, it would make information easier to find. Unfortunately as far as i am aware there is nothing in the forum rules about it, so i cant really enforce any type of system. What i will do is update the read before posting sticky asking for users to Name the thread appropriately. But as i said its not fair to enforce it as its not in other forums. Best thing, if the info is not there to PM the OP and politely ask him to add the info. If you don't get a polite reply, let me know.
I will think of some sort of system and post it here tomorrow.
Hows that?
And the U8800-51?

Huawei make 3 versions por the Ideos X5: U8800 (2010, December), U8800PRO (2011, Q2) and the U8800-51 (2011, Q3). Three different machines for the same model, different CPU and Chipset, so, the ROM, tools, hints and tips are totally incompatible between the models. We really need to split the forum.

And the U8800 is like the U8800Pro, with different processor and chipset.

As i said before, i do see the frustration on this matter. It is not the only device in this situation. The matter is being looked into by the moderator committee. When a decision has been made i will post. But for now we will just have to live with it.
Sorry i cant help any further.
Hi all
I have had a response to the request for a separate u8800pro. It looks like it will have to go through the usual request procedure. It really is down to the amount of people who get behind it. So if somebody wants to request it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=263
With the amount of new devices getting released it is a hard call to pick the popular ones. So if you want it, get behind it and post.
So for now thats all i can do. Sorry its not a happier answer, but its not down to me.
Take it easy

I had already answered this. I have done all i can about it, if you want it then post in the forum i suggested
If anybody else asks this, the post will be deleted. I dont want this thread to be a list of people asking the same question. Its out of my hands!!

ValenteL gave a good example.
I thought you already know what is moderator job. Just say that you don't know how to do it.
Or maybe you can learn how to do it. Come on. Don't take it too easy. Many ppl wait for it.

I have made it very clear. i am not responsible for adding subforums. I did my best by posting in the mod forum asking for it to be added. But was told that enough people had to get behind it. I said somebody should start a thread in the about xda forum and then people to post there interest in the forum being split.
Now i have done beyond what my job is as a moderator. In the end i put my time in for free to try to keep this forum moderated. This does not include the administration of this great forum. If you have a problem with that i suggest you contact MikeChannon, he is the site administrator.
Now, your responsibility as a user. One of these is to read the posts in the thread, if you would of done this, all your questions would of been answered. So i would say you have quite epically failed in this. I could of just deleted your post, like i warned i would. So call this a final warning.
So what have you contributed to this forum?
So for the last time, If you want a sub forum then post a thread here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416406
You keep taking it "easy"

Could we have the wiki for the x5 stickied in the general thread? I am trying to get a handle on what is available and working on the x5 and having a wiki visible could make people more likely to use it and keep it up to date so all info is central.

You know what really grinds my gears... I've been using this forum for a while now, when I first started using it I really knew less than nothing about the inner workings of the Galaxy 3, but I have learned from the community and as such, give back wherever and whenever I can as a way of helping others and also saying thank you to those who helped me by "paying it forward", and I know that 99% of the community share the same spirit. However, there are a select few that seem to go out of their way to be unhelpful and negative towards those seeking help.
Sure, noobs post things in the wrong place occasionally, and ask stupid questions and do things wrong and then need help fixing it, but they wouldnt be here if they didnt need help and lets face it, this is about the only place left to get help with this phone, as samsung have pretty much given up on it.
Getting angry and saying things like "this is in the wrong place!" "and "did you even use the search tool?!" dont help anyone. Instead, lets help people by guiding them to the right threads, answering their questions simply and helpfully, and above all, being nice!
lets keep this community friendly! rant over...
P.s. Thankyou to everyone who has helped me here!
thanks for your warm words... you are just reflecting in some way the board rules...
Why?
oh I forgot... a new user asks instead of reading, even not the rules
And just the first rule says:

I recognise that you remain a helpful, positive member of this forum, so thankyou for that you definately fall into the 99%
Everyone was a noob here sometime ago. When you just register to xda you are directly exposed to alot of information and seeing you get a scared or nervous and make some mistakes. The fact remains that the fellow members should not lose their cool and fire up on a mistake they themselves must have done some time ago.
And yeah, if you(the READERS) have a problem with a specific person/team/thread then just remain passive with it.
Cheers and have a Great time!
if you are in a bad mood of agressive arrogance, you should not write overbearing answers in "HELP"-Forums....
instead you should play some (non-american)-football or take a sledge to demolish some needless walls - there are more than enough of that... (unfortunately also in the most of our heads)
keep on being friendly here!!!!!!!!!!!
