So if there's no WI-FI or cellular coverage.

They want you to use WiFi. But there is Cell coverage on the Sprint network. It's just that they limit you on how much you can use the Sprint cell coverage before asking you to leave. Lol.

Looks like there are more problems with the service than worth buying into it.

I though the same thing. To many problems.
But, The $20.00 on WI-FI maybe good as a house phone. I wonder if they limit WI-FI calls???
"SAY WHAT!!!" Ask me to leave.
So what would be the uses for this service then.
Any ideas???

Well, they have to pay Sprint for the minutes you use, do if you use too many, they lose money on you. If you are generally in areas where there is WiFi access, then this may be a good idea for you.

I would just get a phone connect for the house. That way you can get multiple phones to use at home. So that's out of the question. I guess for the unemployed that sit at home all day or in their parent's house.

Good luck. I *just* came off 10 days of being capped this morning. Very frustrating, but now i'll be a bit better about my data choices. That's hard to do when my phone is faster than the DSL line I have at work...
How you guys use 5 GB in a month baffles me. I don't even touch 1 GB. I suppose it helps that I don't have 3G in my area, though
don't let the cap let you down.I still have a few days left over. You could still be using the internet but without videos. Its slow and a pain but its better then nothing

Lol, I think the lack of 3G is definitely related.
5GB was a lot several years ago. With Amazon Cloud Player I'm pretty sure I could hit that easily...no tethering involved.
Definitely do about that per day on my DSL line. It's just not that much if Netflix/music streaming are involved. I would leave AT&T, but my only other option is a bush league cable company with a 25 GB per month cap. Yeah, 25. Please, government, step in and pwn these jerks.

Im at 3.5 with 10 days into billing so I will be there at some point.
Streaming Via slingbox tends to suck data.
@Binary what did you do?
Hey binary.......
Wtf man?
And other guy. Its really easy to hit 5gb when u owe time warner money and ur phone is primary internet. Flash content is a ***** AND I work in a kitchen 40+ hrs and stream pandora on a speaker system for the customers (mostly reggae, its a laid back place). Add to that, dl'ing roms, n64 and psx games and mp3s using download apps plus youtube, couple full episodes of conan and just 1 night I decided to stream the movie "paul". Its very easy to hit 5gb. No tethering either. Luckily Im not changing roms anytime soon until gps fix for 2.3s happens, and I think I got a decent library of games now, so I just gotta slow down my youtubing a bit and I should be ok.

This was talked about months ago Z. People thought it meant cell phones too but it does not.
I heard about it being laptop cards and mobile hotspots, not tablets as well. My Evo view 4g is useless now, wonder if a change like this lets me out of my tablet contract... I have the cheapest tablet data plan but I use a bit of 4g. No torrenting or anything like that but I feel kind of lied to. Stupid iPhone ruining everything for the rest of us.

If they kill unlimited cell data, not really sure where to go next. At&t is evil and doesn't care about it's customers and Verizon is almost as bad. T-Mobile will either flounder or become a fully owned subsidiary of at&t. US phone market really sucks. At&t and Verizon are making more money than ever and put all but the dregs straight into the pocketbooks of their investors.

Define 'mobile broadband'. Is that like tethering from your phone if you do it officially? I'm under the impression 'hotspot' would be more like if you have one of those wifi cards. Will the actual data through my phone to ONLY my phone still remain unlimited?
If not, Sprint is going to be in a world of hurt. This is the only thing keeping people there right now. Their service is okay, their 3G speed is pathetic. If they implement this before they roll out Network Vision, there is absolutely ZERO reason to stick with them. After Network Vision is a maybe, as then maybe the speeds will be something sort of useful.
If you pay for the Hotspot on your phone it has a 5GB limit and then throttles you down I believe. Mobile Broadband is a card you plug into a laptop to give you internet in any 3G or 4G area.

When you run the paid Hotspot it signs you into the network to verify you pay for it. At that time it must keep track of your usage until you sign out. We would have to see the terms and conditions of the $30 hotspot addition to be sure. But the also have hardware hotspots which I am sure the new caps are geared towards.

I have an Airave also and it is mainly for voice but it will increase your 3G speeds. Although it's kind of pointless since you need an internet connection for the Airave to work.
Also to OP, it took you years to get one? I made one phone call (albeit 30 minutes long) and received mine within a week. If it wasn't for my Airave I would have to drop Sprint.

That is cool, I need me one of these. I'm gonna check it out sometime next week. Thanks!
I also got one without any issues when I asked. Free.
One note: DO NOT USE IT AS YOUR ROUTER. The instructions had you set it up like this:
--->internets----modem----airave----wifi/router))))computer
The airave acts as the DHCP server using this set up... and it's terrible and slow. It was for me anyway. It's just a crappy at NAT and DHCP stuff.
Instead, it should be set up as follows:
--->internets----modem----wifi/router---airave
(and computer connected to the wifi/router, not the airave.)
Some manual configuration will be needed, and ports will have to be opened and forwarded on your router.
I have wifi but I've never been able to use 3g so pretty much I've been paying sprint for garbage service so I am now going to take advantage of unlimited data

I have good service with my Airave. When my phone is connected to it, I hear it go off when I get an SMS about 5 seconds before the computer dings (Google Voice Chrome Extension). Without the Airave, my phone would sometimes take 10 minutes.
BTW, here's my speeds with the Airave...
I use G voice for text and have no issues with my Airave..
Thats good. Less volume on the network.
Go ahead and call to get your airaves people
Sprint many times offered me the airave but they wanted me to pay for it which I wasn't up for. Its like buying a working car and then the guy says ok well it'll b extra if u want the engine too. I'm happy as shyt now with the airave my messages all come in on time I can download mms in seconds and most important I don't have missed calls now. I will gladly be paying my sprint bill now... with a smile n everything

Will this be the same thing?

Existing customers can simply change their data plans, provided they are on Classic or Value plans (not Legacy or grandfathered, but that may change)
Tethering will be disabled on this plan similar to how it is disabled on the current 2GB data plan once 100MB is exceeded.
There will be NO option to add the $15 tethering & mobile hotspot feature add on to this new plan at this time. Customers wanting tethering will be advised to take the 5GB or 10GB plan instead.
As always, rooted devices will be able to find work arounds, which i would anticipate seeing an increase in customers visiting these forums seeking "one click roots" and then not getting the joke when they are redirected to the noob video...
Financially this makes sense for magenta as they have been getting squeezed at both ends; losing customers up to red & blue, losing them laterally to yellow, and also losing them down to MVNOs & their own M4G product.
Although i do not have any info on the new data plan being available for M4G, i would anticipate it NOT being offered.
With 500,000 postpaid losses lass quarter combined with 250,000 prepaid additions, there is a serious concern that this trend will continue.
There needs to be some substantial reason to stop the churn as well as migrate existing M4G customers to a postpaid Value plan.

If this is going to cost $20 more for value customers, does it mean I'm going to pay $5 less if add this to my plan?

Yes but you will lose the hotspot feature, unless it still works with a custom rom

4.4 Update unlocks LTE band 4 1700 mhz & Stock Tethering

I noticed that after the update to KitKat I'm picking LTE signal when that didn't happen before, I'm so happy .
As you know I'm in Mexico so I'm don't know which US carrier uses the same LTE band but I think it's at&t as we use the same bands.
tl;dr KitKat update unlocked LTE for At&t and T-Mobile
Edit:
It also unlocks stock tethering, also wasnt active before:
The previous update had band 4 support as well. Was using it on T-Mobile

Can someone with AT&T confirm whether or not they have LTE now with 4.4

FYI I think att only uses band 4 in a few places. So most AT&T users will likely still not get lte.

This. And again this has been active since the previous 4.2.2 build. Stock tethering has been unlocked for anyone with limited data plans since the beginning. If you have unlimited data it's still going to try to make you subscribe for $30. If you're on another carrier, it doesn't do this check. Hasn't for ages.

FYI - if you previously had Verizon unlimited and took a 2 year extension, you may or may not have tethering. I was offered a 6gb limit for the price of 2gb, but my plan does not have tethering enabled. However their new standard tiered plans now include tethering.

You can call them and they'll put it on for you at no charge. It's part of the block C agreement. All unlim plans will pay for it (unless you've got some promo plan still active or some shiz of course). Anyone on tiered data gets it for free.

/shrug. Just telling you that Band 4 was unlocked on the "95" radio as well for 4.2.2 . If you had a bastardized build where you had a partial flash and you were running 4.2.2 with the "90" radio then yes, you wouldn't have had band 4 active. This situation did affect a few people.
if someone could confirm for t-mobile that would be awesome....im looking for any reason to leave big red. i do love the maxx though!!

I've stated in previous threads and this one that LTE has been functional for Tmobile and HSPA+ (in refarmed areas) for about 3-4 months now. Whenever that last update happened before 4.4.

Are you able to make phone call and send text messages on LTE. Cause I'm on T-Mobile also with LTE and android 4.4. It won't let me make call and send text message. Before with 4.2 it just automatic switch from LTE to 3g to make it instead of saying " roaming indicator off" then disconnected. So I have to manually switch it before calling anybody. Pretty annoying.
If you also have 4.4 can you give me link to get the firmware. Thanks
