If the Note gets it before the TF700 the Asus owners will have a stroke. I hope it has some of the Note II features unveiled today like the lasso tool, hover, and "I'm away from my stylus."

I'm pretty sure GNote 10.1 will be able to handle Air View and S-Pen buddy as it already has the hovering mode and accelerometer built in, unless Samsung decide to make those features exclusive for GNote 2

I dont think the screen will detect the S-Pen after 14mm, as stated by manual.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I switched from the tf700 thinking that I was sacrificing an update to jellybean. its really anyones guess whether samsung decided the include the note II features even though the tablet could easily handle all of them, but samsung likes exclusive features on its newest devices. on the other hand, samsung has been remarkably quick with its jellybean update, and since this device is still less than a month old samsung could throw in the note II features to make more people want to buy the tablet.

There's no reason for them not to add new features, particularly when everyone says the Note 10.1 "sucks" compared to it's competitors and will get "pwned" by the Surface/Series 5/etc. etc. They need anything they can get to set them out from the pack, and definitely pushing JB with some serious new features behind it before Asus can get in gear would be a good way to say "hey, look at us!"
This is a halo device, after all (for now).

i don't like the term "very soon."
"later this year" at least gave us a time frame. "very soon" is a relative term that could be anywhere from days to beyond the end of the year. hell, we only have 4 full months left and christmas is coming "very soon."

The fact that Samsung has pulled the latest OTA (cannot personally confirm this but have heard) leads me to believe it will be VERY soon.

Here's the way I look at it.
At the August 15th announcement they declared "by the end of the year;" a self-imposed deadline. They could have been more vague and just said "we plan to update the Note 10.1 to Jelly Bean."
At IFA they said "very soon" rather than "end of the year." Again, why change the terminology and increase expectations when there's no need to?
The Note II for all intents and purposes is a smaller Note 10.1 running the same h/w and s/w (with or without some specific features). The JB ROM its running is obviously complete enough to allow reporters to review it.
There are leaked OEM ROMs out in the wild for the SGS3 which shares the same h/w as the Note(s). The only thing different are the S-Pen and digitizer specific features.
The Note 10.1 and Note II don't compete. There's no reason for Samsung to hold back the Note 10.1's JB update or withhold features.
So when you add it up I'm guessing "very soon" to mean next month somewhere around the time the Note II goes on sale internationally. All just supposition of course.

I agree the note II and the 10.1 do not compete. I personally think they complement each other. I am looking for a phone next year and will probably grab the note II. Without the note 10.1 I would be less likely to buy the note II.
I would also be more likely to grab it if the note 10.1 and note II have methods in place to share S notes and other features.
This is a way for Samsung to differentiate itself from Apple. There is no way you could say the Note II and the 10.1 are copies of the ipad. I think this differentiation is important to Samsung.

The 10.1's S-Note app syncs with either Google docs or Evernote so I'm assuming the Note II's will also. It's a shame the 10.1 doesn't have NFC or we could use S-Beam to share files.

If the samsung doesnt include the new features frome the note2, couldnt it be ported or just copied over if its just software?

Same specs right? Essentially same hardware . Take the cellular modems out and what do you have?
Should be here soon,

They'll definitely be dropping the ball big time if they don't come up with some tighter integration between the 10.1 and the SGN1/2.

Maybe I was hallucinating... but I could have sworn they were showing a Note 10.1 running JB during the "Unpacking" show.
One comment on that though - how does Samsung manage to put on such a huge, elaborate, flashy video presentation and then plunk some of the least exciting people in front of it.
Also, they have to put some mikes in the audience to catch their reactions - because when they were standing there showing the ultrabooks either their mics weren't working or the audience collectively died.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0), offers Ice Cream Sandwich on a seven-inch platter
It looks like Samsung has just taken the wraps off its latest tablet offerings, with the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) -- an ICS-laced follow-up to the company's original seven-incher. Available in both 3G and WiFi varieties, this redux doesn't mark a huge departure from its predecessor, packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 LCD. The big changes, however, come in the software department, with the Galaxy Tab 2 shipping with Android 4.0 straight out of the box. Other than that, you'll find a three-megapixel rear-facing camera, a VGA shooter up front, Bluetooth capabilities, and HSPA+ connectivity. No word yet on pricing or availability, but it's worth noting that we first saw this announcement hit Samsung's RSS feed earlier this morning, and it appears to have been pulled since then. It all looks awfully official to us, but when it becomes officially official, we'll be sure to update this post accordingly. Until then, be sure to head past the break for a shot of its backside.

Really, ohhh come on Samsung why are you doing this, this is an inferior model compared to the galaxy 7.7 the only thing it has going for is ICS which the 7.7 doesn't at the moment. This is why Samsung is playing catch-up to Apple even though I deeply believe that the tabs are supperior but churning all these different models for what? Just concentrate on one single model and make it the best device available.

OK Samsung, W8 is out and taking buyers, time for JB OTA - now!

JB for the Note II has been out for a while now. Note II specs are remarkably similar to SGN10.1 specs. JB with Note II multitasking competes well with W8. The current configuration not so much.
So, open letter to Samsung. Time to push out the JB OTA now! You are going to start losing SGN10.1 users to W8 devices. Get your act together and OTA us dammit. This is a new device. We should NOT be made to wait like this. Pisses us off and just bad business for you.
And if you are delaying us just so your W8 devices can get a foothold you are going to have some unhappy early adopters on your hands.
Get it done.
P.S., This post will solve nothing but It felt good to vent.

Yes, it's always a good idea to try to put pressure on a company to release software they don't think is ready. I mean, we all know they develop things and just wait and wait for no reason before releasing.

I wouldn't expect JB out anytime soon, with 4.2 out last night Samsung probably has to start with the OS base all over again but if they had gotten to the apps then at least those are a quick copy paste but with less devs working on the S3 and Note 2 version as it is practically out we will probably see the update coming through in December late November unless they give us 4.1 and we wait for 4.2.

After trying to get a straight answer out of anyone at Samsung USA I am not betting anytime soon. If it happens by the end of this year I will honestly be shocked.
After going through the new christmas advertisement, i have a feeling that the update will definately come on or before 25th dec.
I think samsung wants to cash on shopping time, and put in a new advertisement in front of ppl to get that feel good factor for this tablet.
I really don't think they have any other reason to hold this update back from 8013 users otherwise.

That advertisement is posted on the Samsung mobile facebook page. The one they use for international users. If you look at the Samsung Mobile USA facebook page they do not even mention the note 10.1 AT ALL. It is all S3 Note 2 and the tab 2 10.1 It is like the note 10.1 does not even exist.
You would think with all the tech sites that someone could get answer about the 8013 but nothing to be found.

So the question remains
So.... With all that has been said the question still remains. Where and when is the update? There was a time, just recently, that you could not turn on the tv without seeing a Note 10.1 ad a thousand times. Now it is only occasional. They have moved on to the note 2.
You would think that with all of the tech sites and tech people that someone would know somebody at Samsung that would have an answer.
Why so silent about the 8013?
Is it an issue with the apple suit?
Are we just spoiled and impatient because we were not first?
You would think someone could figure this out.
It's a great question. You would think that with the 4th iPad, TF 700 as closest competition in the US they would get it out asap. They've pushed their GS3 with JB on almost all carriers in US (correct me if i'm wrong), their Note 2 had JB when released and almost all got the new update with more multitasking, all that's left of their top 3 would be the GN 10.1.
As an earlier posted stated some misgivings about the 8010 and 8013, i thought they were identical in hardware. The only difference methought, was some of the applications that were on the Note 10.1. Part of the reason other countries got the JB update I thought was 1.) They had GN 10.1 released to them before the US, 2.) Had cellular support 3.) Beta test for any hiccups. I've never known Samsung to have huge issues with their updates (except on cellular which is more carrier related and the 1 incident that could essentially wipe your phone with a html link) but i thought maybe some of these carriers made a big stink BEFORE their contract with Samsung saying they wanted JB by [certain date]. I know if Samsung doesn't get it out by that date they get fined or charged per day - but this is all a guess on my part. I can see the new 8020 getting JB before it gets released, because it's newer and has LTE. All i can think is that sadly this time around their wifi didn't get the update 1st.
If there was someway i didn't have to change my csc and essentially do a complete wipe on my 8013, i would upgrade to another version of the JB. If all i have to do is Odin the pda file of the UK version then i'll do it - i am getting anxious as all of us, but i refuse to lose my data this time around (yes i know about TI, i just prefer not to have to do it).
Perhaps we should write to the leaders of XDA and see if THEY can get a response out of samsung and post it on their main page. That or androidcentral. Android central posted when germany was getting the "premium suite" upgrade that it was a slow roll out - which made it seem like it was hitting all the different countries/regions separately and over time. Technically i guess this is correct, but i'm wondering if they just repeated what was written elsewhere or from the PR which didn't explicitly say whether it was just for germany, etc. (Although then the UK received it, etc.)
What us Wifi users are waiting on is when the 8010/8013 suite will be released from us, and so far, thanks to the success of the GN2 and GS3, we are what seems to be one of he last of priorities.

It almost has to be a legal issue with Apple at this point. Portions of the trial are still ongoing so Its quite possible the Samsung lawyers are blocking anything that could fuel the fire, especially since Apple specifically moved to add the Note 10.1 and Android 4.1 to the lawsuit.
Sad that Verizon was faster on the s3 than Samsung was on their so called "flagship" product. Never thought that would happen either. At least I now have JB on something
Then why would Samsung continue to release updates to their US carrier partners such as Verizon with the gs3? The premium suite is essentially the same across the board with except of UI and how its implemented.

Note Pro is 12.2 inches with S-pen.
Tab Pros are 8,10.1 and 12.2 inch devices with same UI as Note Pro 12.2 but no S-pen.
And Note 2014 is a 10.1 inch device with S-pen. However has old UI but hopefully an update to kitkat soon will change that.
So really the only difference apart from size is Note series has S-pen and Tab Pro series doesnt.
Hope that helps lol.
Which is better well depends on your needs really all are very high spec devices.

A comparison of the N10.1-14 against the new tablets using Samsung's press release as a base...
[We have it] The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO present the world’s first 12.2-inch (or 8.4-inch/10.1-inch) WQXGA Widescreen (16:10) display, offering crystal clear resolution (2560x1600)
[We’re getting it; at least in some form] A personalized Magazine UX, specifically optimized for a large screen, allows users to further tailor their Galaxy tablet experience for their own needs. The UX enables them to organize their favorite content in an easy-to-use dashboard with automatic feed or news updates and then quickly access the most frequently used apps for a more comfortable reading experience.
[We have it; “four windows” is probably for the 12” models only] Multi Window enables users to split the screen up into four different windows and an innovative, Virtual Keyboard provides them with enough space to type comfortably, leveraging haptic feedback to produce a more realistic typing experience.
[We have it] The Samsung S Pen included with the Galaxy NotePRO delivers a more responsive, productive and overall efficient tablet experience with access to features such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder. In addition, Pen Window enables users to simply draw a window of any size on the screen, and instantly access unique in-application features such as YouTube or a calculator.
[Unknown if we’ll get it] Users can easily access and control their home or office PC directly through their Galaxy NotePRO or TabPRO with Remote PC in order to seamlessly edit and save files remotely.
[Unknown if we’ll get it] The Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO also come pre-loaded with Cisco WebEx Meetings platform, the industry’s leading web conferencing solution that provides users with an easy way to meet with anyone, anywhere. And now for the first time on Android tablets, users can share anything on their screen as well as starting a WebEx meeting from contact list. Samsung e-Meeting provides collaboration capabilities by giving users the ability to share content during a meeting without having to access a central server or network.
[We have the one’s in green; the other's are unknown] For additional value and productivity right out of the box, the Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO (12.2) will feature up to approximately $700 worth of the premium pre-paid, long-term subscription offers from best-selling news, social media and cloud storage providers, including: Bitcasa, Bloomberg Businessweek+, Blurb, Cisco WebEx Meetings, Dropbox, Easilydo Pro for Tablet, Evernote, Hancom Office for Android, LinkedIn, LIVESPORT.TV, NY Times, Oxford Advanced Learner’s A-Z, and Sketchbook Pro (content packages may vary by region).
[The accessories that aren't size dependent should be compatible, the LAN adapter is unknown. The 12” tablets have an additional port on their right side] Designed to extend productivity even further, the following optional accessories are also available for purchase with the Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO: Various Book Covers, USB LAN HUB, Universal BT Keyboard and S Action Mouse (accessories may vary by product model).
[We don’t have MIMO but the new 8.4” and 10.1” tablets don’t either] Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac MIMO (2.4 & 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, AllShareCast, BT4.0.
And I know, the devs (all two of them ) might be able to port some of the features and functionality we aren't getting over. But some of us can't root because of KNOX so consider the above list for those for whatever reason are stuck with what Samsung provides.
There are no differences between Note 10.1 2014 and Note Pro 12,2 except the screen size, i believe and there is no reason for Samsung not to update the Note 10.1 2014 with the new UI.

It's been discussed to death in the thread linked below. Bottom line is until we see what the Pro/Notes come with and what the N10.1-14 gets (some form of M-UX is the only thing that's certain because it appeared on the microsite) after they're released no one here can say with certainty the N10.1-14 will be brought up to "Pro" level; even though that's what we all hope/want/wish.

They have every reason not to upgrade. They want to sell people on the new featured which means they want peop, e to buy the new device so the get money from device sales.
I have been a long time consumer of samsung products and ifmyou look at it we wait on averagr,8 to 9 months for OS upgrades wnile mamh other devices and manufacturesnalready have them. Samsung is the best for Android but not good with updates.

They got much more to lose, not to update N2014 with new M.UX and bad publicity is always something companys want to avoid. But we already know that N2014 will get 4.4 with new M.UX. If there is hardware limitations, then its understandable, since there isnt and there are no reason N.2014 wont get new M.UX.
Also, u are wrong about Samsung with updates, they are indeed the best of all OEMs with updates and dont know where u get from they are bad with updates?
Which OEM are better with updates then Samsung?

They can be. They can also be atrocious. Ask the people in this 50 page thread from the N10.1-12 forum discussing the fact they've been on 4.1.2 for a year.

M-UX is now listed as a feature on the N10.1-14 site. So people buying it have the expectation and an "implied" commitment from Samsung that they'll be getting it. In fact, those that don't follow technology news like we do will probably call Samsung support to ask where it is if they buy a N10.1-14 before the M-UX update's released. If I were to bet I'd say we'll get it either when the Tab|Pro 10.1 goes up for sale/pre-sale or possibly even before. I say before because what incentive does Samsung have to push people toward a cheaper tablet (Tab|Pro 10.1) by letting the N10.1-14's update languish? We may get it after the Tab/Note|Pro 12's go on sale to give them some time on the market with M-UX exclusively both before we get the update and the Tab|Pro 10.1's released. Samsung wants to sell tablets in top-down order of price. So bigger screens and S Pen go to the top of the list because those devices make Samsung more and have higher margins.

Where in the site you saw this, I just went to the site and didn't saw it.
The Tap Pro series only have 2 GB of ram, only the Note 10.1 2014 and Note Pro 12.2 have 3 GB of RAM.

IMHO I think it would be better if they upgraded the Note 10.2014 to KK 4.4 and whatever else before they release the Note/Tab Pro range as those who have the 2014 Note will either sing the praise or decry the device and it's operation and usage. If it works well then Samsung get free advertising from customers which will knock spots off any reviews out there but if we decry it due to this and that then they will be able to tweak anything that customers find wrong before they go on sale.
To me that's the way to do business but of course Samsung will think differently I bet lol.
Any news on the tom tom drums about a release date yet?????

That's what I thought too.
So, unless people want a 12" tablet, I guess the Note 10.1 v2014 is the way to go.

Official specs from Samsung on the N10.1-14, Note|Pro 12 (Tab|Pro is the same sans S Pen), and Tab|Pro 10.1. I've highlighted in red what's different on the latter from the N10.1-14. The Tab|Pro 10.1 specs says it has Wi-Fi channel bonding while the N10.1-14's doesn't. It might and just never got included in the initially published specs.

That is crazy! Samsung really did take out a full 1 gb of RAM in the new Note 10.1! I think that means if Samsung stops making the 10.1 v2014, then that model should hold its value fairly well, maybe?

As always samsung uses to upgrade devices that is not too popular in 6-7 mounths after the AOSP release.
Lollipop was announced for Note 2, Note 3 and Galaxy S4 by Samsung Finland.
I have hopes we will get Lollipop, at least I'm praying
Sadly I have lost all faith in Samsung and will not purchase another of their products. I realize it's sacrilege around here but I bought myself an Ipad air 2 for Christmas. Being that I'm keeping the note 10.1 (2014) I'll have a good comparison between the two items.

I agree but there is no other android tablet with s pen in that size and prize range.... next best thing is ms surface but that's something else completely.
The thing is, I use the pen for alot of stuff (drawing plans to rearrange our flat for example ) and alot of friends and family are totally intrigued by it. I can't imagine buying a tablet without pen after this... its a must have feature once you're used to it. Sadly there is no real competition...
Nevertheless I'm almost sure there will be a lollipop update for it reasonably soon (2-3 months). Unless samsung releases a note 10.1 2015 in the next 2-3 months then the update could be even later. But remember even the original note 10.1 got updated to KitKat!
It'll probably never happen...
So sick and tired of samsungs crap support. I am also sick of my Note 10.1 2014 just being "good enough" to get tasks done. I only use lecture notes for this tablet to annotate pdfs. With no lollipop in sight, I'm buying a surface pro 3 at the beginning of next semester to replace this tablet and my ultrabook. If i get real desperate for android, I'll use Console OS. Peace out sammy, if you have no interest in supporting your products, neither do I...

I thought it worth to let you all know that I am using Lollipop on a Samsung Note 2014 10.1(SM-P600) wifi only.
There is a thread on the android original development forum by RaymanFX. Its Cyanogenmod 12 which means its Touchwiz free and KNOX fuse is tripped.
More importantly however its miles ahead of KitKat- touchwiz in terms of responsivenes, snappines and fluidity.
There also is this article http://www.xda-developers.com/android/analysis-of-the-galaxy-note-3-android-5-0-leak/ and if all is well and truly as remarkable with Touchwiz- Lollipop then I would love to see this ported somehow to Samsung Note 2014 10.1(SM-P600) wifi and sister/brother models.
Adding all Apps from Samsung Note Pro 12.2 to such a port would be like phenomenal! I have donated before and would donate again on a project like that.
:good:
This tablet will be updated but it's going to be awhile so relax and enjoy life until then.

If you bought a Samsung tablet and expected much more than 1 update, you're a fool. It's a trade off for superior functionality over the more-update Nexus tablets.

I have a Nexus 7 (the first edition). It received the Lollipop update last year and since then is almost useless due to lags and sluggishness. I also got the most recent update (L 5.02) which they claim it fixes N7 lags, but I did not see any improvement. Everything is slow, browsing is slow, booting takes minutes.
With this experience, I have no rush to update my Samsung tablets to Lollipop
Samsung should think about why their sales are going down... l hope this powerful device will get Lolipop but if not I think Samsung will loose aanother buyeri...
Poslano s tableta (tapatalk)
I guess I'm the only one still happy with my Note 10.1 2k14 edition. I'm running a custom ROM. I use the handwriting and s-pen functions quite a lot and don't imagine that I would be happy without those functions. My tablet still functions fine and is nice and responsive (not as fast as my Note 4, but also not as new). I'm really in no hurry for Lollipop on my device. KitKat runs fast and is stable for me.
It's time for Samsung to wake up. This is a modern world. We pay premiums prices for top-rated Samsung phones and tablets, and expect regular updates. We dont need to beg for the updates. The computing world changes rapidly, and samsung should follow suit. It's becoming clearer that Samsung cannot keep up with Google releasing free updates to free android softwares. It's becoming clearer that Samsung Tizen software will eventually be a useless OS.
Just out of curiosity . . Why is getting lollipop so important that people are willing to sell their tablets in shear outrage?
I've got it on my note 3 and in terms of functionality there is very little difference . . .

I want it too
I want an s note that doesn't lag all over the place!
Someone should start a thread "I will never again buy Samsung" If they see how many ppl are not happy with support of high-end products and selling pop-crap Galaxy S line, maybe they finally wake up!
