SGT 2 7.0 root and warranty - Galaxy Tab 2 General

Hi, i have a couple of questions about rooting this device.
Can i do root according to this guideline?
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery Method
Download the ClockworkMod Recovery image (recovery.tar.md5, 5.3 MB).
Download the root package (cwm-root-gtab2.zip, 1.22 MB).
Download Odin3 v1.85 (Odin3-v1.85_3.zip, 199 kB).
Extract Odin3-v1.85_3.zip into a folder on your computer.
Go to the extracted folder and double-click Odin3 v1.85.exe to launch Odin on your computer.
Copy cwm-root-gtab2.zip to the root of your tablet’s external SD card.
Switch off your tablet.
Reboot your tablet into Download Mode. You can do that by pressing and holding the Volume Up key (right key on the Volume rocker) and Power button. When a warning message appears, press the Volume Down key (left key on the Volume rocker) to continue.
Connect your tablet to the computer via the USB cable. The word “Added” will appear in Odin. If it doesn’t appear, make sure you have properly installed the USB drivers on your computer.
Click the PDA button in Odin and choose the recovery.tar.md5 file.
NOTE: Do not make unnecessary changes in Odin. Doing so will likely brick your tablet.
Once all are set, click the Start button in Odin.
Your tablet will automatically reboot. You will also get the “Pass” message in Odin.
Turn off your tablet.
Reboot your tablet into ClockworkMod Recovery mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down key (left key on the Volume rocker) and Power button. When the Samsung logo appears, release the Power button but keep the Volume key pressed.
NOTE: Once in recovery, use the Volume keys to navigate and the Power button to select an option.
Select Install ZIP From SD Card and choose the cwm-root-gtab2.zip file. Confirm the action on the next screen to initiate the rooting process.
Once complete, go back to the main menu and select Reboot System Now.
Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3110 via the Heimdall or ClockworkMod Recovery method.
I found this guideline on androidauthority.com, but i cant post the link on it.
How can i keep a warranty? Is it possible? for example i do a backup of original rom from Samsung, then root the tab and if i want the warranty back, what have i to do? unroot tab and install my backuped rom?
thanx for advices.

I can only do a backup after root so the best way is to find original rom in sammobile and download it to your pc. If you need to restore just flash it with pc odin and it will erase all what you have done. You just need to be erase flash counter if you use the method that you found. But there is others.
If you need help to find the rom post here the country and i will look for it.

It doesn't really matter. It is all the same.

Post here your product code in order to find that backup on samsung servers. To look for it, if you have windows got to regedit and look for CURRENT_USER/software/samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/ and find the folder that have HIDSWVER and ProductCode.

OK, so i´ll download rom for UK. And how do i install it? in odin i select that rom and simply install it?

DO not use UK, use Nordic Countries because it have XEZ (Czech Republic). UK don't. And it is the same rom
But also try to see your product code before.

The link is for the new rom. I though I want to flash the new version, right?!
About the backup and the folders that you not find, did you installed Kies?
If now, install it, connect tab to kies and only after look for the folders in the regedit

Yes i have kies, but i dont use it.
about the product key, what is it?

So what rom should i download? Here is selection of roms for gt-3110.
Code:
http://oi49.tinypic.com/inu4h4.jpg

Its product code not product key
Yours should be GP-P3110TSAXEZ (Czech) and I can't find it in samsung servers.
But if you flash the Nordic (4.0.4) that rom have CSC XEZ you will be just fine.
And believe me, 4.0.4 is a lot better than the 4.0.3
In my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1838072 and others you will have all the information that you need.
Put questions in each thread if necessary.

OK, i´ll download this (GT-P3110 / Nordic countries / 2012 August / Android 4.0.4 / P3110XXBLH1 / P3110OXXBLH1), other rom for nordic countries is not here.
So now if i root tab (4.0.3), then in future can i instal this rom (4.0.4) and warranty will be back?
Sorry for a lot of questions, but i am beginner.

You really don't understand. Forget the backup... That link was not your backup... It is the new firmware that only came out for that countries at this point. Other countries are waiting...
If you only want root, follow any thread and then look at your flash counter. If you flash a recovery by Odin, your flash counter will increase and warranty will be void but now you can use the app triangle away to reset it and your waranty will ge back.
If you dont understant what am I saying, dont do nothing. Read some posts of this XDA forum first.

Do we need a PIT?
Again, does this get rid of the root? - Is this de-branded UK firmware?
Top stuff, thanks
It's probably been asked many times before, but my phone came from O2 which has their branding. If I were to go for this firmware, would I be able to restore my phone back to O2 Factory setting, as I do not wish to invalidate my warranty?
Thank you, thank you!
Here's the last step I needed to get a UK unbranded handset. Pity I'm going to have to do a wipe to get on XEU CSC
@Rocketpaul: Yes, this will remove root. Re-root in the same way as before
@Robot1000: No, there's no way to restore an older firmware other than to flash that firmware (which currently hasn't been leaked to the web)
I am not yet fully familiar with Samsung terminology but can someone confirm that going to the XEU CSC makes it a completely generic handset?
Thanks!

In terms of the software on the phone, YES, going to XEU CSC (which you might have to configure manually, haven't checked yet as still downloading) will make the phone a UK generic / SIM free handset.
The only other thing is the phone's ProductID, which is stored in the nvram.bin file on the phone. I *think* this will change to XEU when you change the CSC, but I need to check. (it is possible to change this manually, but EXTREME CARE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN)
...Either way, I will confirm once I've flashed this on to my phone, in about.... 10 minutes!

Use this one: http://hotfile.com/dl/116892134/92526db/KERNEL_I9100XWKDF.zip.html
So are we mix and matching kernels now?
Would be good if we could extract the kernel out of this firmware for root and re-flash, so it all matches..?

Thanks, I look forward to an update from you.
Can you please tell me what the process is for configuring the CSC manually?
(A google for "manually configure galaxy CSC" doesn't seem to find a guide for original Galaxy S...)
Thanks!
James
To change CSC if you flashed a multi-CSC file just type *#272*phone imei#
When the menu comes up just select your csc of choice and click on install. It will wipe your phone.
Thanks intratech for a promote and clear response.
does this install a new baseband as well as my signal is very erratic and i put it down to the radio firmware also do you just extract the .tar and put it as pda or do you leave it zipped. Think im being dense but not been to bed yet should sleep before doing this. Cheers

[WIFI Only] [How-to] GT-P1010 Gingerbread Update

I know a lot of people are going to have problems updating to the latest gingerbread build.
PLEASE NOTE: This update will remove root but you can root again with CF-Root from second post.
ALSO, THIS PROCESS WILL WIPE DEVICE!
1) Put your P1010 into download mode (by holding POWER and VOL-DOWN):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2)I went ahead and used ODIN tool to downgrade/upgrade to the latest FROYO firmware before Gingerbread:
P1010XWKC1_OXX
(OEM Flash Guide here)
You should have the same tick marks and files loaded as in my screenshot. Be sure that the box is yellow on the right and you can initiate the firmware install by clicking 'Start'.
3) (VARIES) From there, after restart some people will experience a force close followed by a reboot loop. You will need to flash this kernel via ODIN:
P1010ZHKF1-kernel
(Flash this the same way as above but UNCHECK Re-Partition and CSC!)
4) You will then be able to boot into Froyo.
5) You will use ODIN again to install the Gingerbread update and flash just the PDA (leave CSC blank and leave Re-partition unchecked this time).
P1010XEUKPG
(Flash this the same way you flashed the Kernel in step #2)
6) After it reboots, you will have 2.3.6
7) (Optional) steps in post #2 to install CWM Recovery and Root.
I recommend installing CWM Recovery and CFRoot in the thread below:
ClockWorkMod Recovery for P1010
After you install CWM Recovery, you can do a nandroid backup and never worry about brick again! (=
Also, you can use ES Explorer to mount root and get rid of the Samsung bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!)
For those wanting to remove the bloatware (AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!):
You can remove the bloatware with ES Explorer, there's an option to enable 'Root Explorer'. Download the latest version from the Market.
See below:
screenshots are from my Galaxy Nexus but it's the same for any Android 2.2+.
1) Go to the 'Settings' screen
2) Change home directory to '/'
3) Tick the 2 marks on the bottom
4) Browse to /system/app
5) Delete whichever app you don't want, but do it with caution (I usually move these files to /sdcard and move back if it causes any type of force close)
If you totally borked out the system in such a way that you can't boot, you can always move it back in recovery via ADB (much more complicated process but it's possible).
Also, why not do a nandroid backup before messing with deep system files?
Nice! Great topic.
Updated op! =)
this is the best christmas present so far.

If you followed those steps, the ROM runs stable without any FC's or reboots. I even have setCPU installed on mine.
Also, it's good to note that I'm running CF-Root kernel from the thread in 2nd post.
Plus, you could always downgrade if you run into issues. Just remember to always BACKUP YOUR DATA!

Could you attach the logcat here? or if you could send it directly to theos0o, that'll be great. he's the modder of the skype apps I pasted above.
could you also try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153285 this works for me using froyo.
im getting excited about this.. is it really for the p1010 wifi only device? because from what i can see in this subforum is the devs working on the p1000 only. another thing, please don't tell me this is an official update. i don't think the bad sammy will update this little tab.
Depending on where you are freon yes it its the official ireland uk update and makes massive difference as well
Much better tab.

@densets, skype is working for both skype mods I posted earlier. you just need to enable 'use valid preview'. for droidrx's version, set the app to 'crop' so your video is centered.

sorry for the newbie question, but what's the password for the 2.3.3 file from sammobile?
edit: already found it, my bad
Interestingly, I've followed the guide exactly as mentioned above (had KC1 and the HK kernel from previous flashing) and flashed the PDA for XEU 2.3 from Sammobile, and I'm now stuck in an eternal bootloop. I like the new samsung boot music though, better than the previous one
Any suggestions?
Edit: I wiped data and cache from recovery, flashed KC1 and the Kernel and it boots fine. Checked Kies to be sure and it's offering me FW upgrade to KM2. Should I accept this FW upgrade or just persevere with flashing the new 2.3 firmware?

[Q] How can i fix it?

Alright, my problem is when i try to call someone this message pops "Not registered on network".This all happened when i changed from stock to arrow rom,everything ran smoothly but this message kept popping up even on any rom plus stock. I've searched on this forum for the same problem and seems like it can be solved with files called "EFS".
Thank god i did full nandroid backup before changing to arrow rom, so i tried to restore but every single time twrp says "no os installed do you wish to continue?" so i continued as if twrp is nuts but the phone gets stuck on the black screen after you restart the phone.I also tried installing stock firmware which is "I9500XXUEMJ5" then downloading nandroid manager and restore from there,but still not working.
Honestly i don't know what to do now as a phone without the ability to make calls is useless.I don't know why nandroid backup is not working properly,but the file is 3.7gb which contains EFS system etc...
Update: Seems like my backup is corrupted so backing up is impossible,which is fine.
Update(1):There is a new firmware for my phone "XSG" which is:
Product Code: XSG
PDA: I9500XXUEMJ8
CSC: I9500OJVEMJ8
MODEM: I9500XXUEMJ8
So shall i just wipe cache,data etc../factory reset then install using Odin V3.09?
And after that shall i download the specific modem too? or is it already installed with the firmware?
Thanks in advance!
This nandroid backup is corrupted. The unique u have to do is flash a CLEAN STOCK ROM for ur device and dont restore the backup.
*EDIT: I hope it solve ur problem. Next time use this ONE for backup ur EFS

Go into Settings, About device, Status, does your IMEI number show?
By clean stock rom, you'll need to flash a stock rom via Odin. Whats your current baseband version? Also are you on new knox bootloader or old non knox bootloader?

That's fine you have KNOX.
You'd need to choose the correct firmware, if you think MJ5 was the one you had installed then flash that, although your free to flash whatever is higher like the newest FW for I9500 but not you will not be able to downgrade to a lower FW version.
Instructions For Flashing Firmware:
- Extract (unzip) the firmware file
- Download Odin3 v3.09
- Open Odin3 v3.09
- Restart phone in download mode (Press and hold Home + Power + Volume down buttons)
- Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
- Add I9505XXUEMJ5_I9505OXAEMJ5_I9505XXUEMJ5_HOME.tar.md5 to AP (The firmware you have downloaded)
- Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
- Click start button, sit back and wait a few minutes.
- If you encounter any issues with the firmware (Any FC, Bootloop etc)
- Boot into recovery mode (Home+power+vol up)
- Choose to wipe/factory reset. (THIS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD!)
- Then choose reboot and you should be good to go!

Still no luck at all.If there is no other way to solve it,shall i give it back to Samsung to fix it? And will they take it because i rooted the phone?
I reckon your EFS is corrupted. Try flashing another modem to rule out modem issues.

Guide Odin Flash / Update firmware ODIN
You do not need to root or unroot the device to update the firmware.
Please ensure that KIES is closed and not running in the system tray!
0. Download and Install: Mod edit: Malicious links removed.
1. Just download the firmware version you want from this posts[/URL] and extract the .tar or .tar.md5 file in the archive and save it somewhere.
2. Reboot your phone to download mode. To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin 3.**[/URL]
If your ROM is a single .tar.md5 package click on the AP/PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted in step 1 and select it.
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA/Code, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin like below
BL = Bootloader
AP = PDA (CODE)
CP = PHONE (MODEM)
CSC = CSC
4. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
5. Connect the USB cable and wait for any required Mod edit: Malicious link removed. to install and the ID:COM section to turn blue like below.
6. Click start to flash.
7. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it will reboot when it finishes.
*Note PDA/AP/CSC/CO/MODEM/etc
PDA refers to the build version of the software/firmware
Phone refers to the baseband/modem version
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. It contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider.
.PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout. It's very likely you may never have to use this.
If the package only contains one .tar archive then it will have everything, pda+phone+csc, in the one file.
If it has multiple .tar archive then:
The .tar with modem in the name is the phone/baseband bit of the package
.tar with csc/multi-csc in the name is the CSC bit of the package
.tar with code/PDA/AP in the name is the PDA/AP part of the firmware package

No this is for the g930f (International version) as stated in the thread title
Will this wipe the phone or just root it?
Can I just flash the recovery and SuperSU to get the root?

The 930FD dual SIM uses the same firmware as 930F single SIM. More discussion here (not a link to firmware). Did you try unrooting with SuperSU? Knox is already tripped by the way and that's irreversible.
Ok I was just making sure, what firmware would I use for an international phone being as I live in the USA.
Thanks
Apologize if this is a noob question (i searched) . I have a G930F in the U.S. with AT&T , Will any of these firmware versions improve cell reception etc? If I switch firmwares will it allow UK version of Samsung Pay?
As far as I know, if you flash your phone with another rom is because you have rooted the phone. If you have rooted the phone, then of course you have tripped Knox and therefore Samsung pay wont work, let alone android pay
No firmware from the link

Has anyone been able to download from the link? I was getting forwarded to panel-guide.ru and got EXE file instead of the firmware. I was suspicious and sure enough the EXE file got intercepted by MalwareBytes.

Your first question, don't know. You'll have to experiment.
Your second question, if Samsung Pay comes to the UK in May as predicted, it will probably only work with select UK financial institutions.

Flashing ROMs and rooting are two different activities independent of each other. Flashing a ROM doesn't necessarily root the device. Flashing official Samsung firmwares don't root the device or trip Knox.

A Beginner's Guide To Installing A Custom ROM

In this tutorial I am just going to be covering how to install a ROM and how to install TWRP. Before we start this, you are going to need THESE files. You will be taken to MEGA to download the files. You will also need to download the Samsung USB Drivers. This guide is going to be in a Step-By-Step format so should be very easy for everyone to follow.
Step 1: Download the files that are linked above and extract them all to a location that is best for you,
-Make sure you have WinRAR or 7-Zip, just to be safe, use THIS website to download either WinRAR or 7-Zip.
-For example, I extracted the files to "I:\XDA ROM Files".
Step 2: Enter the folder by the name of "Odin3 v3.12.3" and open "Odin3.exe",
-You will need this for later on in the tutorial, so just leave it open.
Step 3: You will now need to boot your Galaxy S3 into "Odin Mode", also known as "Download Mode" by doing the following steps:
Power Off Your Device,
Power Back On Your Device Using "Power Button + Home Button + Volume Down",
Release When You See The Boot Screen,
You Will See A Disclaimer,
Press 'Volume Up'.
Step 4: Plug your phone directly into your computer / laptop,
-Make sure that you have got the drivers downloaded, if not, download them.
-The phone should appear in Odin as a Com X port.
Step 5: Return to Odin3,
-Uncheck everything except f reset time in Odin. If you leave auto reboot on when flashing twrp, the phone will reboot and it will replace twrp with stock recovery upon automatic reboot.
Unchecking auto reboot, removing battery etc. and manually booting into twrp after flashing will ensure twrp will stick and stick recovery will not return on reboot.
Step 6: Click "AP" and find the following file "TWRP 3.0.2-1.tar" and click start,
-This should start installing TWRP to your device and you should see a progress bar on Odin3 and on your phone.
-After installation, your phone should reboot.
Step 7: Allow your phone to fully boot and load,
-Make sure your phone is still plugged in.
Step 8: When you have selected a ROM, download it.
-The ROM should be a ZIP file,
-Transfer the ZIP file to your "Download" folder on your phone.
Step 9: We are now going to install the ROM, follow the next steps very carefully,
Power Off Your Device,
Use The Following Keys To Boot Your Device,
Power Button + Home Button + Volume Up,
You Will Be Prompted With TWRP Recovery,
Click "Install"
You Should Now Be Prompted With Your Internal Storage Folders,
Go Into Your Downloads And Find The ROM,
Install The ROM.
That is it. You now have a custom ROM on your phone. Please leave some support if I have done anything incorrect. If you need any help please feel free to message me! Thanks guys, I hope you enjoy my first post. I am trying to hardest to make a commitment to this community.
Just a quick little thing from me, if you need any help then just give me a PM and I will help you the best I can

Private message me, will assist further
Don't unzip the ROM before flashing. If you unzip, you'll get a bunch of other folders which TWRP can't flash individually.
Now my S3 i9300 can't recognize my paid SIM card, but it can all others SIM cards., also my paid one works on others phones.. any solutions?
