More Mutlitasking apps - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Anyone know if we can modify the Multiscreen menu to include more apps? Its pretty limited to a select few.

The apps will have to be coded to work with the multiscreen function, so far Samsung has not released any official API (but correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a developer after all)

I wonder if they would consider doing that. That would be awesome. Samsung is pretty responsive to the developer community; is there any way we as a community could request this?

This and the sdk for the mini apps. The idea is great, execution is terrible Since none besides the calculator are overly useful. If Samsung would give us an sdk to use to make our own it would unlock huge potential and help add value to their tablet. I hope they are smart enough to realize that but I fear they may not be.
Lets try to push this, lets take to "the twitters" and flood their support portal.

My gut instinct tells me that Google will eventually incorporate multiwindow multitasking into Android making it a standard. Hoping they do it with Key Lime Pie.

Probably farther down the road than that. It would obviously require pretty beefy hardware, so until we progress to the point where this kind of hardware is the norm, it would just degrade the experience and further boost Android's laggy reputation.

I've been going back and forth with @samsung_dev on twitter. They did reply to my first tweet but just sent me to their dev page with the s-pen sdk and "optimizing your app for note 10.1" page.

Well, it corresponds with the previously obtained "leaked" photos. It does some things I haven't seen any other roms do as of yet. But, I would assume all easily doable if your a developer and wanted to mess with people.
Than again if I wasn't except so much from it I'd think it was it. But since It's kind of disappointing in the first place I don't want to believe it. But, I would assume there are much more background upgrades and new features not shown there that it would make it exceptional and that much better.

I sure hope so.... I'm not digging the neon light blue though..... to me it seems kind of nauseating, I would of hoped they would of gone with more of the Honeycomb dark blue color.
The guy was almost stopping himself from doing certain things for fear he revealed more then he should have. It may be fake but it would take a lot of work to do so.
Also it looked like en early build but had the same radio as the update I got yesterday.

I still lean more towards it being a custom rom someone conjured up. And even if it's not ICS; nor, do I wish it to be (Again the background changes would have to be intense for me to not feel dogged completely) I would love to get my hands on that "rom" and mess with it.
Just tell us it's fake already and let us play with the rom!

Has anyone noticed the Movie Studio icon? As far as I know this app is only available on Honeycomb at the moment. Two possibilities:
- It's real and the Movie Studio works on phones
- It's a custom ROM and there's just a useless icon for an app that doesn't exist
The first one seems more likely to me. Also, there's the panorama feature in the camera app, which was rumored before.
Custom ROM my ass. **** just got real!

Doesn't seem fake. IceAndFire ROM, for example, has the ICS launcher by Syndicate Apps.
This video shows a lock screen, a different app drawer, a different notification bar. Just like on my Honeycomb tab. Seems like real ICS.

ICS already on Xoom! Why don't we have it yet???

Check it out! Forward to 12:00 to see it in action
This has already been posted twice... and the most obvious answer is that it isn't ready yet. Just because you see ICS running and one feature demonstrated doesn't mean the entire thing is ready yet.
Nice to see it running on a Xoom...
Surprised we don't have a leaked beta version of ICS for Xoom.
I'd rather wait for a proper version from the Tiamat guys than have a half working leaked version.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for the Tiamat ROM, I just would love to see some in depth ICS videos or be able to play around with it myself on the Xoom. Just to get a taste, even if it is an early build
I ain't trippin' 'bout waitin' for this update. My XOOM runs as I expected it to back in February (and it's about time, too.) The only things that ICS offers that I care about are resizeable Widgets (I hope they mean it this time) and the ability to take screenshots and hide apps without root access.
I can get almost everything done on my XOOM that I planned to do when I bought it. It will be nice to have as long as they don't screw it up. I don't care if it comes.

If you want a taste of ICS, then DL the latest version of ADW Launcher EX. It is just like the ICS launcher (from what I've seen) and it takes a bit of getting used to. A bit too easy to create folders IMO as you move app icons around. Resizable widgets, of course (not new for ADW). Lots of customizations possible.

Scrollable widgets kinda suck on ADW launcher EX on my xoom. It's hard to flick and scroll my gmail widget. It's worse when I set gestures to open/close the dock. Everytime I try to scroll widgets up or down, the dock opens or close and I can't even scroll the widget properly.
Not everyone has the time or will to dig through the thread list to check whether or not a particular topic has been discussed already before starting a new thread on the same topic. Besides, let the mods moderate reposts of essentially the same topic. That is why they exist, after all (among many other responsibilities, of course)!
With that out of the way, I share in the OP's eagerness for an ICS port and find it a bit disconcerting that there's no port for my tablet the Xoom, of course nor my phone, the T-Mob GSII. I applaud the devs who are currently toiling away to bring ICS to the Xoom and would definitely buy one of them a round of beer for their hard work with the only catch being since I don't have Paypal (long story) they'd have to be in the NYC area

Motorola already confirmed it will come, just give them time. Those things don't happen overnight, as they have to take the source code, add the hardware drivers (different interface with the kernel than previous versions), add their branded software, and then test everything to ensure it works. It will come, both from the community AND Motorola.

GED has been a Big Headache and WORTHLESS. It has NOT given us any cool stuff over other Android Tablets. I believe GED has hindered our devices. Should I trade a Galaxy Tab 7 for a Xoom?

Someone is offering me to trade my 16GB Galaxy Tab 7 3G/Wifi + cash top of SGD$250
- 1 Year old. Warranty over.
- Physical appearance: 8/10 because of some small scratches on the side. Scratches seen on the screen are on the screen protector.
FOR
his 32GB Xoom 3G/Wifi -
- 5 months old.
- 10/10 condition. Placed in otterbox defender case worth USD 90 and Japanese screen protector worth SGD$69
Opinions? Looking at the development of Xoom, it's not really that active huh. Guys I need some opinions Thanks.
The development of the Xoom isn't that active because the Xoom gets it's updates first, and the source for Honeycomb was never released making Cyanogen-esq projects impossible. Now that ICS's has been released, along with the source, I suspect this will change. But even so, the Xoom doesn't need a huge amount beyond rooting and custom kernels, both of which are active projects.
Regarding the deal your associate wishes to make, it's a damn good one. He's after your decrepit Tab 7 in return for his Xoom, which is a far more capable device. So the only issue is if your cool with going through with a deal which will leave the other party at a disadvantage.
Uh... Do it!

That's an amazing deal...take it. There's great, stable roms for the Xoom Honeycomb OS and Android 4/Ice Cream Sandwich is in active development and is already providing a perfectly suitable daily driver (see my signature). Only camera drivers are missing--need binaries from Motorola.

Xoom is definitely better than a Samsung Galaxy Tab, especially considering the hideous abomination that is Touchwiz. However, I think you could find a better deal. I don't know about where you live but where I am a quick search on craigslist yielded several LNIB Xooms for less than $300.
You should be able to sell your Galaxy Tab, and then take the $250 that you were going to pay ontop of it for the trade and buy a brand new Xoom. and still have some money left over.
If you are in an area where it's not easy to find high end electronics for sale on the private market then yeah by all means go ahead with the trade...maybe try to get him down to $200 cash ontop of your Galaxy Tab.
Good luck...and BTW we have a nearly fully functional AOSP ICS rom available to us, what more could you want from our devs?

I think the reason there are few Honeycomb roms (though the ones available are very good and stable) is because Honeycomb source code was never released. It's at the end stage. But ICS is going strong!

I don't know why Google made the decision to withhold the HC source code. I think they should have released it and let the developers decide on what, if anything, to do with it. At this point, there's no point in working with HC since ICS is out there but still....

They decided not to release it, because they knew devs will try to port it to smartphones and it wouldnt work well as its primarily designed for tablets.
Then ICS was to unify them therefore ICS is open source.

What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver.

Ubuntu's full desktop OS coming to multi-core Android devices
What the Atrix 4G first promised, it looks like the folks at Canonical may deliver. Think back to CES 2011, when Motorola showed us a future where our phone was the only computing device we would need -- only to leave us wanting when its webtop app didn't deliver the requisite functionality for such a future. Well, it turns out Ubuntu now runs on multi-core Android devices and your handset can grant a full desktop experience when docked with a display and a keyboard. It's a customized version of Ubuntu that plays nice with Android, the two OS's sharing data and services while running simultaneously. So, you can still access telephony and texts from the Ubuntu environment while enjoying all the computing capabilities it has to offer, including: Ubuntu TV, virtualization tools for running Windows applications, desktop web browsers, and Ubuntu apps built for ARM. It isn't clear exactly what hardware you'll need to run Ubuntu on a handset, but Canonical has said it works on multi-core devices with HDMI and USB connections.

HTC One Android 4.2 Official Update Confirmed Once Again

Better true this time The wait has been too long.... Can't wait....
The HTC One Android 4.2 official update has once again been confirmed by the company without a specific release time frame being provided. Earlier this month we reported that HTC Russia had confirmed availability of Android 4.2.2 for HTC One in mid-June, but the update itself is yet to drop. Recently Three UK, one of the carrier partners across the pond that offers HTC’s latest flagship, recently replied to a customer’s query on Twitter revealing that HTC had “just pulled” the 4.2.2 release. This indicates that a June launch of this update was definitely on the cards, with Engadget reporting that HTC has confirmed to them that the update is indeed coming soon, but customers might have to wait a bit longer. HTC One ships with Android 4.1 pre-installed, whereas its main rival the Galaxy S4 ships with Android 4.2. Some features expected in the HTC One Android 4.2 official update have already been detailed, but the company itself hasn’t confirmed exactly what improvements this update will bring. Like everyone else, we’ll keep waiting patiently for this update, and will let you know as soon as it drops.... Read more at: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/06/htc-one-android-4-2-official-update/

Does it really matter? I mean, the M7 is already set up better than the S4 with its 4.2 config... I honestly don't think it needs anything at all in terms of added software features, just some finishing touches (and softkey related updates to everyone who is still waiting for it).

Pull down native notification for wireless toggle, etc and the most important home button can set as menu. :good:

Yea, I suppose both of those are good things. Even though you can get to the wireless/wifi toggles one click from pull down menu... or one touch on a toggle bar from home screen. the home button menu could be good? not sure what other menus are needed...
(Jags, what? I'm not complaining about updating... who doesn't like new things for free?)

The home Menu button are meant to remove and replace the 3 dot black bar.
Yes I want the black bar gone.
The pull down toggles
Multi user support

I don't have any of these issues... my home button brings up the apps drawer if I hit it in default screen, and brings up the search function if I hold it down... thanks to Nova launcher, which is free. It almost looks vanilla in my config except with black bars being transparent, and the app drawer half transparent, and nicer hand-picked icons with no text on homescreen
Just wish they release the goddamn kernel source. I swear someday I will leave my beloved HTC for the plastic, just for better developement, if this kind of delay persists.

people like you, all you do is want want want and nothing else. release the kernel source faster for better development? or for your selfish wants.
ever thought about others? them working for free just for your selfish needs.
why dont u do something good with the kernel source instead of throwing all the work to other people then leech on it like a damn parasite and moan when it's updated slower than other masterpieces
and then says stuff like "oh im gonna jump to plastic if my selfish need isnt fulfilled"

i think we deserve the kernel source asap don't you think? i payed premium price for this device running android (the most open source phone OS) so i could get all the benefits of open source policy
the fact that HTC always slacks on sources is gross

everybody pays a premium for gadgets. not just a phone alone.
and it's already performing currently, there's no need to rush things.
good things come to those who wait.
if everything u paid for deserves to be updated quickly because "it costs like a premium item" , then you're wrong.
it's like saying i paid a premium for my ac router, i deserve faster firmware updates to speed the damn thing up
and they have no obligations to comply with the open source license. only google does that.
nowadays with all the patent ****storms, nobody really cared about open source anymore. they want everything to themselves

hm yes i see your point but i don't see a reason why they delay things like kernel sources so long for.

HTC generally is pretty fast, sometimes a few weeks slower than samsung, sometimes a few weeks faster with updates. I installed the 4.2.2 update but immediately I noticed my bottom speaker started popping and the animation in the pull down menu was jittery and when opening the app drawer I first saw a grid of 4x2 icons before showing my 5x4 grid. These were just the bugs I noticed in the first minutes of installing. HTC were right in pulling that update. JB 4.2 itself doesn' t offer a lot either for phones. The one thing I really want from 4.2 is the fix for the msm_hsic_host suspend bug, but most people seem to be unaffected by this wakelock anyway.

With 4.2.2 on the ONE 2013 Flagship phone, everything AWESOME. As Samsung S4 come preloaded. Just that the smartphone battle has becoming more tough. At least HTC can speed up a little bit :fingers-crossed:
Most importantly for me is the 3 dot black menu bar remove and pull down notification wireless etc toggle menu.

My wife owns the s4 and trust me, I wish they would have taken more time working out the bugs. She's Constantly complaining about little things not working, and I'm always having to clear cache on apps, rebooting her phone and what not to fix it.
My htc one runs 100x more stable than her s4 despite being rooted rommed and s off

Yeah I got rid of the s4 for this. That phone was laggy as hell. And I had custom kernels and roms on it. This was faster then that off the bat. And even with cpu powersave on it is still faster haha.
