Trade value of newer one s for a nexus one or similar phone? - Nexus One General

I have a newer HTC one s that I've had for a month or two now, I got it on a future shop warranty upgrade as a replacement for my old HTC desire. I am tied into the warranty for another year and a half paying monthly. It was $10 a month on the desire now its $13 a month for the one s cause they consider it a higher end phone than the desire was I guess. Anyways I miss the desire and a few things about it like expandable memory plus money is tight lately so i have been thinking about trying to trade the one s to someone for their older nexus one or similar phone and have them take over the monthly warranty payments. My girlfriend still has the desire and I like the look of the n1 a bit better and would prefer not to have the exact same as her. I also liked the huge selection of roms for the desire/n1 and prefer stock android.
What do you guys think chances of getting a trade, I see some n1 advertised about 2 hours from where I live between $120 and $180. Maybe I could buy one and sell mine but would prefer a trade as things may go much smoother. Thanks for any ideas or advice.

Please rest with your new One S!!
I would change my N1 with that if I had money to spend as-of-now..
Nexus One (such as Desire) have lots of problems, such as Multitouch axis issue, faulty hardware (mobo to replace sometimes), no more official Google support since ICS, etc.
There're a lot of issues here.
Just my 2cents.
Sent from my HTC Nexus One using xda premium

Well I haven't had the multi touch issue and I don't play any games on my phone. I have only run custom roms forever so no real issue with updates. No mobo problems with my old desire, my girlfriends or my friends. Mine had a menu button and home button failure which I think was caused by me sanding the paint off without disassembly. (made mine polished chrome). I have no issues with the one s except I already ran out of space on the internal sd card but I still miss the feel of my old phone even though it may not be quite as fast.
Anyways it looks like I may have made a deal purchasing a nexus one with extra battery, dock and a 16gb card for $115 so I will be selling my one s for enough to cover that and the extended warranty balance plus some.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app

What are you selling your one s for? And is it unlocked? Have had my nexus one since day one and still love it. But i was maybe looking to buy something new.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app

It bootloader unlocked and rooted not carrier unlocked yet but I think I will do that with the tools on here. I'm thinking $400 with the otterbox and one other case, screen protector on it and the 17 months remaining over the counter warranty (only good here in Canada).

You're really crazy to sell your One S and buy N1 ! ! ! !
Don't do that Please ! ! ! !
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk 2

If I was happy with the Desire is their anything much worse about the n1? The dock is a big plus to me, and call quality is probably better than desire because of the dual mics. The one s has dual mics as well and does seem noticeably better than the desire.
I miss my desire and figured the n1 would be pretty comparable. I already sent payment for the n1 anyways and will be advertising my one s locally. I think I got a pretty good deal on it even if it is a bit beat up. Selling the newer one will put me ahead financially.

Old N1

Well I have replaced my n1 with an inspire and was wondering what should I do with it? I think its too sexy to sell cause its still in awesome shape. I don't have another line to use it on so I just don't know what to do with it...any ideas?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I think you have the right idea... use it as as back up or simply sell it. You can still make cash off of it especially if it is in that condition, despite the obvious flaws we are all aware the N1 has.
My power button recently completely failed, damn HTC really drops the ball often in QC ranging amongst several of their devices. If it is not two displays (one being worse), it is the eventual failure of the digitizer or the flex cable, que sera... *end mini rant* not hi-jacking here...
Lol I think I may just switch phones every once in a while...the case on my inspire makes the n1 feel so thin

Yes, there is still decent money to be made if your Nexus is in good shape. I sold mine two weeks ago for $250 (which I still think its worth more than, but still). It was hard to say goodbye

General Thinking about buying used MT4G to bring to Europe...

Hi all.
I am thinking about picking up a solid, older model android phone to bring with me to Germany. I am moving there in a couple weeks and will immediately get a German prepaid sim (probably Simyo).
I have read a ton of good things about the MT4G and I think they run about $150 or so used. Just wanted to hear any opinions on whether or not you think it's a good idea or if I should look into another phone as well.
I would also love some help on what to look for when buying one of these used. I remember reading somewhere that some cpus are better than others. How do I know?
Thanks in advance.
I would look into other phones. But if $150-$200 is your budget, go for the myTouch. If not, I'd try for one of the new HTC One Series (One S, One X, One XL). Very nice phones. Hope this helps you in your decision

Yeah, I should have put my budget. I would like to spend under $200.

I have seen a few Sensations sell for right at $200, not too bad of condition either (battery backing all scuffed up, light nicks around the bezel- easily covered by a case or buy a new backing) but the MT4G is still a good choice for under $200
Not the best phone on the market, but for a almost 2 year old phone ain't bad at all

Got a link to the ebay bid? Might be cool to see.
And maybe the HD2 will be known as something cool in the future, like how people still collect and use Amigas. With the dev community here and it's many possibilities, maybe it will retain some value, at least until a suitable alternative comes up (sadly, there have not been any)

No effing way!
I recently bought anotger HD2, a brand new unopened piece for US $285- a thousand bucks gotta be a sick joke!
Swyped from my HTC HD2 using XDA app
A thousand bucks is just a joke for phones.. I see many iphone 3g/4g for 1000 bucks.. Not sure why and I don't see anything special.. unless the inside is plated with gold or something
This phone is great and all but there is no way its worth $1000. I've seen places selling them a lot cheaper then that. I've bought several new
phones since owning my HD2 and I've stopped using them or have sold them and gone back to the HD2 every time and as much as I love this
phone there would be no way I'd be willing to shell out that kind of money for it. You could buy two Sensations for that price point. The seller is
crazy if they think they'll get this or anything close to it. Maybe the price didn't translate well or something,
I hunted the link down on ebay if anyone else wants to take a look..
Thanks for the link, the reason I kept one bnib was for one day to be worth a lot of money. Another seller on amazon has it for 999.95 not sure what version this are but my guess that's probably the reason for the very high price.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
I can buy brand new t-mobile US model still sealed with sim & 16GB card & have unlocked free once purchased for less than 300USD ...
It's a great device but not worth a 1,000bucks to anyone.
You guys are bursting my bubble i already went through the Bennie baby crisis during the 90's not sure if I can take the hd2 not be worth money one day. I guess it has kept its value pretty well since being out around 2 years ago.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda premium
Kept its value as device still competes in size & style to modern handsets & has a good physical construction feel, plus with custom cross rom development it made its own unique used device market.
Common faults & ****e faulty or bad repair handsets keep used prices sensible.
I think the seller is just kidding himself to have it at such a high price, especially when an HTC One X is half that. You can set any price you want for Buy It Now.
However, new, unopened HD2s are obviously rare, (mostly because nobody was such a fool to invest in electronics), and smartphones were definitely more expensive unlocked in the recent past, so maybe he's just out of touch.

In a bit of a dilemma between the GNex and the N4

Right now, I have an Xperia X8. I've had this phone for over a year, and it's my first smartphone ever. During this year, I've flashed a lot so I know the basics around that stuff. And that's why I fell in love with Nexus phones. No possibilities of bricking your phone with just simply unlocking your bootloader (which I've done with my X8 once) and stuff like that.
Problem is, I currently live in Macedonia. Here, the new GNex costs 300 euros with a one year warranty. There's still no Nexus 4 here, but my friend's dad is in the US right now, and he may be able to buy one for me, but he'll be back here in about 2 months. And I can get the GNex in less than a week here. I already have the money as well. If he buys the Nexus 4 for me from the US, it'll cost about 300-320 euros. So the price is pretty much the same.
Now here's the problem: I don't know if I should wait for the Nexus 4, or just buy the GNex. I've been really impatient about buying a new phone. My brother bought a GNex a couple of weeks ago, and it's really good, especially for my standards.
The Nexus 4 is basically a performance upgrade, but mostly in heavy gaming. And I'm not really a heavy gamer. I only play small games like Temple Run and stuff like that, and not so frequently. And those run very smoothly in my brother's GNex. Even NFS:MW runs smoothly, and it's a heavy game.
What I don't like about the N4 though, is the fact that it's completely made of glass and there's a big chance I can break it. Plus, if I buy it from the US, the charger won't be compatible here. And I'm afraid that if I use some other one, it may not be good for the phone's battery. But that's just a theory of mine, not sure if it's actually true. And I've read that many people have had to exchange their original shipments because of some hardware factory bugs. And there's no possible way I can exchange mine.
Your input would be greatly appreciated. I really have no idea what to do. I'm leaning more towards the GNex though.
TLDR: Have to wait 2 months for Nexus 4, and less than a week for a new GNex. Same price here. Which one should I buy?
I was in the same situation 2 months ago. My two brothers have the Gnexus and I decided to wait for the N4, i had a friend in the US and asked them to order one. I waited impatiently for 1 month(it actually got delivered 10 days after i placed the order, but i had to wait another 3 weeks for the guy to come back to Jordan).
Anyway watching reviews/comparisons between the Gnex and N4 I thought they are almost identical, i thought the N4 is just a minor upgrade at best. Now whenever i look at the Gnex or hold the two phones in my hand i know for sure I made the right decision. The N4 performs quite better and is snappier in general, the Gnex screen looks pixelated and blurred compared to the N4's. Also it looks better and feels better in the hand, plus the 2GB of RAM is a huge advantage.
Thats my opinion , so I say wait for the N4 and hopefully you wont regret it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Having owned both I would wait for the n4. Better screen, better hardware, feels and looks better, and it will receive support from Google a bit longer than the GNex. Just protect that back glass on the n4.

Nexus 4 is better in every way
I can't understand why you would get a "dated" model, when you can get a new one that's better in every point of view. Nexus 4 is one helluva phone and at least 50% of issues you're reading about here, are a bit over exaggerated imho. Go for it.
EDIT: And don't order it from the US, wait till it arrives to your country, they're just beginning to come back to stock..
Get the Nexus 4! I've had both and it's a safe bet to wait and grab the N4!

The gnex isn't made completely if glass, the Nexus 4 is.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
the only thing you would need to ask yourself is, do i want to wait ?
also what will you be doing on the phone ?
do you need the quad core/ 2gb ram ? compared to the gnex ?
u want removable battery or no ?
you want IPS screen or AMOLED ?
price obviously isnt a problem
its just your preferences.
overall the nexus 4 is of course better than the gnex.
But the gnex is still an amazin phone
The N4 is better in every way for sure, but my concern would the warranty and tech support. The defect rate for the N4 seems high. I had to do an RMA once and the second unit's wallet app doesn't work out of the box. Had to deal with Google support over a period of two weeks. Don't know how well the N4 is supported in your country, but you may want to take that into account.

Yeah, the warranty is a huge problem. Well, not the actual one year warranty as much as the fear of getting a defected phone and not being able to exchange it due to the phone already being brought back to my country. But, the above posts suggest that I shouldn't worry about that. Why did you have to do an RMA the first time? I don't use Google Wallet so I don't really care about that.

The first phone had a busted ear piece. You can hear constant buzzing no matter you are on a call or not. It also had bad crackling sound (like a blown speaker) while on call. There is a thread about that. Seems to be quite common, at least among early hardware revision.

Have note 2 but love htc one. Good or bad decision

When htc was produced good handsets I loved them and always bought htc but unfortunately I then discovered Samsung .
I have a note 2 which is awesome . Battery is fantastic and the screen is excellent but I've seen a few reviews on you tube for the htc one and am so tempted but I don't know if it will be a bad decision.
Will the one hand anything my note 2 won't ?
I love the 5.5" display on my note but am ok about going down 0.8" as we all know size isn't important
I can get £250 recycle for my note 2 which means I lose just over the same amount as ive had my note 2 since launch. I can get a payg on three for £475 and the launch models are usually unlocked and unbranded or £520 off amazon but don't know if it's with the extra dosh.
Oh help me please my wife thinks I'm daft wanting the latest thing but the htc one looks awesome I just don't want to regret the decision if I get one
Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you and I'm strongly considering the One. But I'll wait for user experience first before deciding on getting one. I might wait for a month or so to see what the htc one is like in the flesh but want it now cos its so god damn sexy.
Oh what do I do . Im hoping my local p4u store has a display so I can look at it and then decide. The only thing stopping me is the fear of a poor battery like the one x and one x plus

Its at least about 4 other threads with Note 2 users..
im a note 2 users as well and im bored and want the latest and greatest.. but i suggest just wait to see what Samsung announces next week.
HTC done the same thing last year and Samsung ended up topping them. so we would have to see what happens this time, its just best to wait for a few more days.. you'll still have time to sell your note 2 regardless since the HTC One doesn't release till the 22nd people are saying.
im getting the HTC One but i am not selling my Note 2 for it.. not worth it.. no matter how old it is.. might consider selling it for the Galaxy S4 or Note 3
I'm in the same position. I could hold on to my Note 2 and get the One on upgrade in a couple of months, sell the note 2 for about €450 and cover the extra €150 to buy the one on release then save my upgrade for later.
Regarding the Samsung updates, my girlfriends Vodafone branded SGS3 updated to JB ages ago. I got sick of waiting for my Vodafone branded one x to update to JB so I just sold it.

Btw mancuk29, why not sell your note 2 instead of recycling. You can get more than 250 for selling it.
The Note II is practically flawless, so don't jump for the One's looks and HW just yet, wait for the first few weeks of user feedback to see it's issues. I'd only switch for practical reasons say you want a smaller phone, don't care about the sylus, plastic is falling apart etc., but do not jump for style over substance reasons, make sure you'd be better off with the One and the investment it worth it. There are few perfect devices on the market, the Note II is one of them.

I 'm sure after getting hands on real device you love it more than N2 and P4u update their recent review in which they mention that battery life is really good but I personally think N2' battery life is bit better but more or less H one's bettery life will not be disappointing, you have to compare and choose between three major factor large vs 4.7 screen , plastic vs metallic body, standard audio/video vs better audio/video shooting

Guys, i agree the htc one is very beautiful, all metal and all, but seriously how many of us carry their mobiles without a case/cover? If i were u, and the size and weight of note 2 were not an issue for me, i dont think i would have let go of the n2 for one. N2 screen does look amazing. For me its just too big.
I love the one, specially the looks, but i guess i will keep my hox for atleast a few months, till proper user feedbacks and comparisons with hox are available. Again, i have kept my hox protected in a cover since day one, and it has helped tremendously in surviving a few falls.

I wish I bought all my phones from you (the OP). £250 for a Note 2 is a bargain.
I personally think you'll be in for a shock when you see how much smaller the screen is. I think the drop in battery life will put you off too.
But at the rate you buy phones it's not a problem I suppose. If you decide you don't like it you can always upgrade to the Note 3 when it's out.

You'll pick-up:
A brighter, higher res display (LCD = more realistic colors and less contrast [greyer blacks])
HTC's new camera approach (4MP vs. 8MP on the Note and 13MP on new high-end phones)
Zoe to capture and manipulate images in a new way
Dual amplified front facing speakers
BlinkFeed to view news and social sources on the lock screen
A more premium feeling device made from metal vs. plastic
A faster SoC/GPU
An IR port to control your media devices
Sense which has a more modern and integrated "feel" than TW
You'll lose:
S Note, S Pen, airview, multiview
A 5.5" SAMOLED (more vivid colors, better outdoor visibility, blacks=black) display and return to a 4.7" display that was last year's standard
Some app compatibility until developers modify their programs to support 1080P displays
All the non-S Pen related TW features like motion and voice controls and Smart Stay/Rotation
A huge swappable battery
Cheap expandable and swappable storage up to 80GB
The ability to update to the latest official ROMs using Odin without voiding your warranty
Wireless charging (if you're even using it)
AVRCP 1.3 to show title/track/artist when using A2DP and possibly the ability to direct dial calls via BT (you still couldn't in Sense 4+)
For people that bought the N2 without planning to use its expanded features it was probably not the greatest choice in the first place. I replaced my Teg3 One X with it solely for those additional features. Otherwise, a 5.5" phone is a pain in the ass to use. If people bought it for the larger display then, unless they've changed their mind, the One and SGS4 aren't really equivalent. Since you didn't mention features and did mention you don't care about a smaller display than any of the "newer and shinier" devices coming out will fit the bill. And at 12" away you won't notice the difference between 1080P and 720P because the human eye with 20/20 vision can't resolve the additional detail at that distance and beyond no matter how much everyone swears they see a difference.

Very true. I had a look at the Sony Xperia Z in a shop and could not tell the difference in sharpness between it and any other 720p phone in the shop. My eye sight is very good too.
