Best android phone to date - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

A lot of the features seem gimmicky but honestly a lot of the feature are useful. I don't even have the blotched ink spots on my screen!!!! I can't wait for some asop and aokp and miui roms appear..... I'm in love!!!!

The one thing that I LOVE about it is the true multitasking....I literally had 65+ apps running in background most were games(gta3,shadow runner, battlefield bad company, real racing, etc) this thing WOULDNT!!! Slow down and bearly got warm. And still managed to get a 6000+ antutu score. This phone is a beast!!!! Oh yeah and I was watching our little mini movie player all the while. :-D

I concur sort of
It would be only more perfect if it were the 4x Exynos but I'll take what I can get. It's a fantastic device all around. I haven't played with the One X so I can't say that it's the best ever, but it's certainly the best I've ever used which almost covers all of them. One of these days these devices aren't going to be loaded with any bloatware and I'll be tempted to not root it. They'll also all be updated all at the same time, and we'll all travel by way of unicorn.

Meh its ok nothing to write home about I see no big difference I actually like Nexus better. I had a note, nexus, one x, and now gs3. Resolution is nice but build quality is crap on it.

Build quality is a preference to me for any phone I own. The build on s3 is nice to me, but I did grab a few cases for protection.
Edit: this isn't a perfect phone we'll probly never see one, but to date, the s3 is the best android around overall aside from build quality to some

I love this phone. Came from a DROID x then rezound and this is by far better. I don't know what people are complaining about build quality. What do you even want a metal phone that blocks reception? Or an iphone mDe of all glass that is that much more fragile? I love the build of it.

Agreed. I had a GS1, and I have used a GS2, Gnote, and Gnex and they all feel the same. Like solid plastic. Maybe not tank like compared to HTC but they still feel good. This one does feel softer yes but that's due to the round corners, smooth back, and tapered screen. The back might seem a little more prone to scratches as it's smooth like the GS1 back covers whereas the GS2 and GNEX have textured rear covers. The good news is that replacements are cheap. It does feel light, but I think that's a good thing. My Bionic feels like a brick, but that doesn't trick my brain into thinking it's built better.

not a fan of the phone anymore. Ill probably sell it when the next big thing will be out.
Samsung messed up big time with the NA version:
No quad core
No Sony Cmos sensor
No Wolfson audio chip
Add to this, terrible build quality, the phone is extremely fragile and the Super amoled screen is not that great.

Has it been absolutely determined that the GS3 doesn't have the Wolfson DAC? I'm still coming across posts that say it does have it? One even referred to a very professional sounding news article stating all US version GS3's had the Wofson DAC?
Either way I really like this phone. I started my smartphones with a HTC TouchPro2 and ran MightyRom on it for a year. It was good, heck at the time I thought it was really good! Then jumped to the OG Epic4G. That jump in quality was amazing! Night and day the Epic was such a nice phone, I think it's what sold me on Sammy phones. The step up to the Epic Touch wasn't nearly as drastic, but still a nice improvement. Similar to the step to the GS3, not drastic, but a nice improvement in a few ways.

N1 vs Nexus S

Depends on what you want out of an Android phone. You can't buy the Nexus One directly from Google, you can with the Nexus S though (and Best Buy). I still have the Nexus One and I really don't see myself even considering the S due to the lack of things I need (FFC is useless, plastic throws me off).
So if I buy N1 would it be upgradable to honeycomb? And is it fast compare to x10? That's what I currently have?

I have the nexus one, but if i could choose now - I'll definitely go for the Nexus S without a doubt.
The touch screen on the nexus one is abysmal. It has multiple freezing issues, and a boatload of bugs that no one is bothering to fix. It's also much slower than the S... i've had a play on my brother's S, and it's so smooth, responsive.. amazing phone.
Also, you're guaranteed to survive at least 1 Android upgrade with the Nexus S, seeing as it's the flagship google dev phone as of now. The nexus one... not sure how much longer it can go. probably a while, but that would be do to the mod community and not the official channels.
Go Nexus S and don't look back.

Yes it will. You are basically comparing phones with the same hardware, both 1 GHz, 480 x 800, 5 MP, capacitive buttons, etc. Updates should be reasonably quick depending on how Andy Rubin runs things.
Oh and the major difference being that the Nexus One has dual noise canceling mics, phones calls are going to be crisp and better for the person on the other end. The Nexus S has a front facing camera, once Skype gets on Android, it might take off.
I have the Nexus One and my wife has the Nexus S. Neither is rooted. I find the USER EXPERIENCE on the Nexus S to be MUCH BETTER than the Nexus One. Larger and brighter display that you can use outside. Not the fingerprint magnet the Nexus One is. Much smoother touch screen experience. And I don't know what all the fuss is about the plastic case vs the metal case. I find it very sturdy and it even feels better in your hand. It's faster at almost everything. You can even hear the speakerphone. Don't get me wrong, I love my Nexus One. But if some one ask me if i would trade it for a Nexus S... Without any hesitation YES!

Fingerprinting on the battery door. If you get fingerprints all over the Nexus One battery door, I am surprised. On the Nexus S, not so much.
I had the n1 one for about a year and upgraded to the nexus s just 2 weeks ago. I find the battery life to be amazing (full day normal use) on the nexus s. The most important improvement has been the touch screen, not cause i play games, but for typing. I noticed that im making less mistakes on the nexus s and my speed has gone up substantially, i also had gingerbread on my n1.
Go with the Motorola Atrix or a new tablet.

Tablets are for sick people.
Both Nexus phones are great and both have their problems...but nothing is perfect!
I had the nexus S for about two weeks before I had to return it since T-Mobile service is horrible where I live.
I've gotta say that the S is better in most aspects. The screen is amazingly bright and easy to read in sunlight. The screen also registers fast typing much better, so I make a lot less mistakes.
Stock gingerbread is so fast and smooth.
However I didn't like the glossy plastic construction on the NS. It was a fingerprint magnet. Also, the quality control on new units were terrible.

the only thing that I keep N1 is to stay with T-Mobile $5.99 old unlimited data plan.

So I checked out the evo 3d today...

I went in to check out the evo 3d at sprint and I was actually very surprised on how snappy and fast it was. Overall it was a great device and honestly I was about to get it. Though simply put I can't see myself without my nexus s. I had both the phones side by side and I kept looking from sense 3.0 to my nexus running cyanogen with gb launcher and really there was no contest there. Some people like sense but for me, seeing them side by side really showed how much superior aosp really is. I also ran a speed test and both phones had the same signal strength, both phones got around 1.2 down, though the evo did have a higher ping. I also checked out the 3d camera as well and I really hated it, gave me a head ache looking at for like 6 seconds. I really did not like the protruding cameras and the gimmicky 3d. As for the build quality it was top notch, compared next to my nexus it felt like it was more expensive than my nexus and the metal accents were nice. But honestly that doesn't matter to me because my black berry storm gen. 1 felt expensive as well but was a POS. Feel and weight of the phone isn't much of a factor to me because IMO I feel more comfortable dropping my nexus on concrete because it is lighter but I bet both of the phones would not last through a high drop. As for the look of the phone it was somewhat attractive but not really. I really enjoy the blacked out nexus with no carrier branding on it and the curve screen makes it really stand out compared to all the other phones. The evo 3d just felt like a brick, I totally loved the sensation's design, i wish htc would have sent sprint the sensation instead. All in all the evo is a great device and I totally think its an awesome phone, but to me owning a nexus s is something else. The whole concept of a nexus phone is just very cool, and I do enjoy the fact that I am the only person at my work that owns a nexus. I see like 7 - 10 people owning evos alone and that is quite a lot since apple is such a phenomenon where I live. I think the deciding factor to me was that it really didnt feel that much faster than my nexus and that the whole bootloader situation is really still up in the air. For me, I doubt I could last with sense for even a day. On a side note I'm totally excited its friday, but MIUI comes out with a new update, giggy, giggy
That was a really long post lol, I really was really thinking about the pros and cons of each phone for past month and hopefully it helps someone out.
I completely agree with everything you said. I love my nexus and could never give it up.

I just walked out of the sprint store. Played with the 3D for about a half hour. Very nice phone. But definitely gonna have issues. Battery life will be awful. And the screen is just weird to me. Takes my eyes a few seconds to adjust on 3D videos. Ill keep my nexus.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
The qhd display really did look nice, but it simply did not come close to the nexus's s-amoled with voodoo settings. Though some people do complain over the over saturation and the "un-natural" colors of the amoled displays but to each their own.
Looks real nice, its nexus for me from now on....plus I got my tablet for for the heavy duty android stuff

I got my nexus to escape this crazy specs race. Here the new sweetheart is galaxy s2, and despite that is a great device, i'm not feel fine in get it, really like my nexus and whole nexus idea and probably will change it only for the new one, when it arrives, and it's good to be satisfeid with a device for almost a year! =oP
I have the EVO 3D on a spare line to give it a try... I want to like it, cause I've had really good luck with HTC products.
BUT, there's no WOW factor. If the 3D doesn't mess with your head, it's a cool little niche... but that's it.
The camera can't hold a candle to the NS4G, and obviously the screen lacks the vibrant colors that we have in the NS4G.
The only thing that I give a slight nod to on it, is the crispness of the fonts... which makes me wonder if LCD Density changer can be used on the NS4G???
The EVO will be going back to Sprint, so I can have the line open for the SGS2 that is supposed to be coming in 3rd quarter.
As someone who switched from using CM 7 (AOSP) on the Evo 4G to the Evo 3D, I can agree with pretty much everything you've said, except the part about the 3D. I know it's a gimmick, but taking artsy 3D pictures and video is just so goddamn awesome. I guess I'll probably get over it pretty quickly.
As for the phone itself, what amazes me is that it seems to equal or surpass my former CM 7 Evo in speed and snappiness while using Sense. Don't get me wrong, Sense is really no good, but it makes me very excited for the future when we get AOSP ROMs on the Evo 3D.
So, of course, part of what really keeps me interested in the device is the promise of AOSP in the future. If I didn't have that hope to cling to, I would probably be a little depressed to be stuck with Sense. It really is quite an amazing device, otherwise.
I completely agree with the op. I used to have the evo..sold it and bought the epic..had that for a while and sold it and now I bought the ns4g for 275 cash..I just can't warrant using my update on the evo 3d for now..the nexus is superior in a lot of aspects IMO. I love the weight or lack thereof the nexus has..beautiful screen, still fast processor and aosp is now my favorite ..I will keep an eye on the 3d forums and see what happens but I may wait for the next nexus phone..assuming sprint gets it right when it comes out

1. Sprint was going to get release the N1 before canceling. They say they cancelled because it'd compete with the EVO 4G but by guess it was because it would have came out before they could enforce they're upcoming $10 high end data fee.
2. Sprint and Google announce Google Voice integration. Only carrier who's done that.
3. Sprint and Google announce Google Wallet partnershop. Again, only carrier who's so far done it.
4. And of course, the Nexus S 4G.
Sprint doesn't have a history that suggests that they'd get it first (N1 would have came out after, and the NS4G of course got it after) but they're relationship now seems to be superior to any other carier anywhere else in the world. Time will tell but I have a feeling that the Sprint N3 will drop on day one.

I actually ordered the Evo 3D, got it in on Friday. Used it, didn't like the screen, I liked the qHD but the SLCD cannot satisfy me like the AMOLED screen. Fact is when I use my phone I look at the screen and I need to be happy with screen quality over certain specs. I went ahead and returned the Evo 3D and got on Craigslist.. found someone selling the Nexus and offered them 200. They accepted, I picked a brand new still in packaging and the stickers still intact for $200. I owned an Epic but I think this phone is much better in quality over the Epic

What's your motivation towards upgrading to Galaxy SIII

I believe many of you have come from galaxy SII or any other high end devices. I've had galaxy SII for 6 months and now I have to decide whether buy a galaxy SIII or not.I know S3 is much more powerful but seems to lack to present real new features. I doubt Whether it's worthy to upgrade or not. I would like to hear your opinion, however I appreciate sincere answers not only some radical misjudges.

I have the Epic Touch on Sprint (GS2), and I preordered. However, the more reviews I saw and sample photos and the like, I couldn't see that it was worth the upgrade and a new 2-year jail sentence with Sprint. I cancelled my preorder and will stay with the Epic Touch, which I'm very pleased with.
I'll say why I upgraded from my SGS2 which I loved, bigger is better. Wanted a bigger screen but not to sacrifice pocketability, so 4.7 or 4.8 was the ideal size next compared to the GNote.
I'm a sucker for new technology so quad core performance.
I went with the HOX to have a change. Also got the sgs3 to test so will say why I think it's a a good upgrade.
Bigger HD screen. Once you go HD you'll love it.
Notification light very useful from my BlackBerry days for multiple events.
Wolfson DAC s2 sound quality wasn't the best so having a Wolfson back is a pleasant move and if supercurio brings voodoo sound it'll be even better.
Better camera.
Quad core, it's fast but the sgs2 is no slouch either. Nothing maximises quad yet.
New Touchwiz slightly better than the previous version but not a sole reason to upgrade.
Smart stay is useful in certain situations.
It's an upgrade but not a huge upgrade. I still think if your happy with the sgs2 then no need to upgrade best to wait for prices to drop then make the move and any initial issues to be sorted out. My one has the yellow tint.

My Galaxy Nexus is like 8 months old, and looks about 5 years old the paint is mullered, the metal round camera is scuffed basically it looks ****ed.
My S2 never looked like that even after 18 months.
I have been out of contract for about four months, rocking a Thunderbolt, and I was just bored to tears with it. I've done all the ROM's and just wanted to move on.
I really considered dumping VZ, but it's hard to walk away from that damn network lol. I didn't see any other phone coming soon that interested me, including the HOX. I need sd card and removable battery, otherwise I'd be using an iphone.
Great specs need something else to play with as my nexus is phasing out.
This is not just a phone - Galaxy Nexus
I've been on an Epic 4G (Sprint's original Galaxy S) since it's launch. It's feeling quite dated even though CM9 has given it some new life. It was between the SGSIII or the HTC EVO LTE (One X). The non-removable battery on the HTC made my decision pretty easy.
I'm still more than happy with my sgs2, I won't be upgrading yet, this will do till the sgs4 - a real upgrade

I loved T-mobile's Galaxy s2, so the s3 was a must have.
I have a HTC Aria, its 2 years old only has 3G on it, iPhone size screen. I'm ready to upgrade. The battery life of the S3, doubles mine, the 2GB ram quadruples mine, and the processor well lets just not compare those.
Haha had an aria as well for a year then got an inspire... I thought I was making a huge jump
"All this knowledge is giving me a major brainer!"
My first Droid (coming from iPhone 3Gs) is this Thrill 4G. I went by specs and the 3D feature. Everyone said it was a gimmick, but I liked it and it will be the only thing I will miss about it.
Anyway, it turned out to be a real dog. Nothing but issues with my music (especially playlists), missed calls that it doesn't tell me about but I get the messages, slow camera and I could go on. I have restored it, rooted it, tweaked it and I am sick of it.
Two of my friends have GS2s and they have always been so much better and faster. So much more support. So much prettier, snappier, better pictures. But I waited. I waited for the successor. Now it is coming to the U.S. and I can finally trump my buddies! MUHAHAHAH!!! Then one of them ordered the GS3 also, but I'll have mine first! Maybe. Depends on the Judge I suppose.
Anyway, that's my story. Excuse me whilst I go back to converting my 3D pics to 2D.
I've had my captivate since late 2010, and though I've had a faster Android experience with the Transformer Prime, I'm ready to experience it in a phone.
Apart from that, I've really wanted LTE for a whole. 3G is just too slow.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I've had an iPhone 3G (9 of them...) for the past 4 years. It's painstakingly slow! You guys don't even know! If i was being chased by a pack of wild tigers I'd probably get mauled before I could call 911 on this crap. Also for me, iOS is very stale and boring now. I want something new and FRESH! I love customizing everything I own and Android will allow me to do just that.

What made YOU choose HTC One?

What made you choose this device instead of others? Will you select your next smartphone based on the same criteria or do you care more about some other spec?

I will never get a HTC device ever because they are not repairing mine.
But I took the One over all others because I love to listen to music. And HTC One's Beats audio with urBeats is AMAZING.
And the phone itself is fast, sexy design and everythings cool for me ;D
Next time I will get a Nexus or a device from Oppo.

HTC One has a metal body which I love.
The choice was easy.
Already have the Xperia Z and the S4..its htc turn.. Now I have the 3 best phones in the world... WiN!!!

I had the One X, my first android phone, and that was a great phone. I really enjoyed the quality of that phone, and the simplicity of sense. Even though I tried plenty of roms, a sense based one was the best for me (Viper).
The One is an improvement over nearly every part of the One X, so it was a simple decision.
Features that I didn't know would be as awesome as they are: Boomsound, Zoes, wide angle pictures.
Features that didn't improve over the One X: Two buttons vs. Three, camera, quick gpu throttling.
With how much HTC improved the One X after launch (hugely), I would expect HTC to improve both the camera and the throttling behaviour for stock users over time.

I loved the design since the phone was announced in March. Sense is my favorite skin, the front speakers and sleek design bought me from the get go. I also love the Un-carrier approach by Tmobile making it easier to buy a flagship when it is released.

I was at the launch event for it in New York, and decided at that moment that this was the phone I wanted.

The build quality, the amazing sound, the wide angle front facing camera (YouTube is my best friend ) the simplicity and looks in Sense 5 and the gorgeous, gorgeous screen
Haven't been more happy with a phone for a long long time

Well I'm on att and I had the s4 before this phone and exchanged it because the s4 had a widespread "lag" problem and a locked bootloader also the att version is 16gb so my games wouldn't fit
HTC ONE IS DEFINITELY THE BEST PHONE I EVER HAD.
Because it was shinier than anything else in the store.

The speakers, those were of great importance for me because my previous 2 phones were horrible (One X and Evo 3D)
The design, it looks gorgeous! Finally a phone design that can compete with iPhone (lets face it, iPhone may be horrible but it looks good)
The processor, I was completely done with nvidia after One X! Battery drainer, no driver updates and horrible support from game developers, almost every game lagged. Glad HTC also saw their choice for tegra as a mistake
Camera looked very promising, and I have not been disappointed
And ofcourse the sound. I've had really good experience with HTC when it comes to the headphone sound. It's still awesome!
And well, the last thing is the gs4. Though I already ordered the One when the gs4 was announced, it still gave me some more satisfaction with my decision!

The metal body design, stereo speaker, camera, screen
We met eachother.. it was love at first sight

I wanted a good phone, with no lag, and the only phone on the market, lag free, on Android, is the Nexus 4, and that phone is not good, and therefore did not fit with my expectations.
If i'm honest though, the screen, and the speakers, are what turned me to this phone, as they are both the best on any current handset available today, and tomorrow.
I was missing how great phones could look from a design perspective since I had my iPhone4 so that aspect piqued my interest in the One. What eventually sold me was the lack of lag (couldn't bear it on my S3), speakers and overall UI of sense.
After much research I almost upgraded to the gs4 from my HTC Evo 3d but when I pick up the HTC One and it felt so much better then the gs4 and the sound that came out of the HTC One was amazing plus I got the deal £10 cheaper a month it was a done deal in my eyes better looking phone which sounds good and feels good u can't go wrong even the 4 ultra pixel camera is great I'm gonna miss my Evo 3d but it been replaced by another great HTC phone R.I.P Evo 3d lol

Absolutely Love This Phone!

The screen is amazing, blazing fast, multi tasking is great because of the multi Window modes and pop up apps, feels great in the hand.
For the first time ever, I feel like I can get a ton of work done on my phone.
For those of you on the fence... Go try one out at a store. You will not be disappointed.

bought the s4 and i tried the 5s for the past 2 weeks, both phones did not make me as excited/ kiddish as the note 3.
You will love the look and feel of this phone. The weight is perfect so it doesn't feel like a brick (LG Pro), speed is fast so it doesn't get the lag (S4), big without being too big with bezels (Sony Xperia Z Ultra), OS is complete butter so it is fast (Moto X), while it lacks the external speakers (HTC One) it makes up for it with better sound quality when using head phones. Camera is excellent and video doesn't have focus issues (LG G2). Hope that explains it a little better and compares it with every new phone out right now. I have owned all the phones and didn't mention the Lumia 1020 (great camera, terrible battery and OS missing apps), Xperia Z (love the waterproof but camera terrible, Xperia ZL, same as Z, S4 Active had excellent screen and all around better than the Sony Z line for me. iPhone 5s was same as 5 for me even tho I did like the fingerprint unlock and faster burst mode camera (but not worth the upgrade IMO). Have a good day.

I am. I've been watching people in the international N3 post what an "incremental" upgrade the N3 is over the N2. It's night and day. The look, feel, updated Samsung apps, the fluidity. I'm pretty happy. I haven't gotten it all set up yet and will post something more detailed once I do. I'm coming from an international N2 and was terrified what AT&T would do to their version. All of their apps can be disabled except for the Mobile Hotspot app which I'll need anyway. And I haven't found anything missing yet except the ability to disable the Mobile Data connection. So far so good.
Where are you guys getting the phone from? AT&T says I have to wait until tomorrow.

I pre-ordered. It was delivered FedEx about 1:00PM today.
we got our stock and demos in last night.. im in love. considering selling my s4 for this badboy now.
it definitely feels super nice in my hand, compared to the note 2. my first thought was, it felt like the original galaxy s2, the squarish feel. didnt like it right away but it has grown on me.
how does that plastic leather feel in your hand? Looks so cheesy in pictures..

i love this phone! also. i had it since OCT 2nd. and the pleather really does feel leathery . atleast ont he black version
This phone is most certainly an awesome upgrade. Just picked mine up last night in black. It's definitely more premium feeling as well, even though it's still plastic. Samsung did a great job with this device and i cant wait to start rooting and ROMing this phone out

Well. So far so good. It's a whole new world for me. I left Sprint for At&T after being with them for years. I'm on my first real Samsung phone after having every HTC since the Hero. I'm liking this phone a lot so far...but I do hope root access is gained eventually. There is a lot of carrier bloatware crap on this phone I'd like to ditch.
Happy new phone day everyone! Woohoo, am I psyched to play with my new phone. Now if work would just stop getting in the way of me having fun....and there was a custom recovery and root access...that'll come in time though, I'm sure.

I was amazed how light it is for the size, and the screen really pops. I look back at all the hand wringing about the PenTile display and realize how silly it was. Looks incredible.
