Use faster fix to set your pool server, then use gps aids, clear agps in settings, then go outside with good signal, request update agps in settings, go back to main screen and wait for good fix, may take a minute or 2, after that you should subsequently get a fix in about 15 seconds

i'm trying to use GPS Aids but it said "The GPS Data Folder is not visible to "GPS Aids"
what should i do ?
What firmware are you using?
Your phone must be properly rooted (ie. having Superuser and Busybox installed). Any rooted kernel will do the trick.
Then, being on GPS AIDS main screen, press the menu button on your SGS and select "Setup".
Thanks Slap, this is very helpful especially for JWx firmwares that do not include angryGPS anymore.

Try the fix for GB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750226
Hi,
My GPS is also not working. I did a very wide search about that isse and tried most of the things. But no luck. In previous stock roms, my GPS was working fine. But after switching to ICS, I couldn't get a fix. The interesting thing is when I tried to downgrade to GB, I still couldn't get a GPS fix. I'm totally confused about the problem.
Does anyone have any solution or idea?
Hi Guys, try to flash with different ROMs and see if the GPS works on other ROMs or not. Make sure the NTP server is having correct URL for your region. It is required for your phone to download LTO file, the same to XTRA server url.
For my case last time, it wont works on any ROMs I tried at all. And then I found out it is the GPS Antenna contact problem. I have fixed it by soldering trick (which voided my warranty that I am not really care after about 2 years of usage).
You can try to verify it by taking off the back cover, then use your finger to press on the upper part of the GPS antenna at the back of the phone. (the location is next to your speaker for I9000). IF it detects satellite when you pressing it, probably it is the hardware contact issue. Some of the owners fix that by putting a thick tape at the pressure point so that when they put back the back cover, it will give a pressure to make sure the antenna contact properly to the board pin.
Try search in xda regarding about the GPS hardware fix.
WARNING : Try it on your own risk. It is just my suggestion and you have rights not to try it. Good luck. :good:

I tried that. And also I applied the GPS fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1750226.
It views GPS satellites, but none of them are in use. I'm posting screenshots. Can you take a look at these?

First of all, thanks for your reply. I tried varios ROMs, none of them solved my GPS issue. But I'm pretty sure that I used GPS previously. There were no problems at the beginning. So I don't think that there is a hardware related problem. I noticed that problem after installing ICS (maybe it was before ICS, but I didn't notice it before).
Just to be sure, I also chekeched the GPS antenna (I found a guide about that). And it seems OK.
So I'm back to square one...
Note: It detects GPS satellites, but says that none of these satellites are in use. I also posted a screenshot in my previous reply.

Hello all,
I am using Froyo XXJPO on my Galasy I9000. My problem is, that I cant get a GPS fix. But I can see 9 satellites if I use a GPS test tool.
Any idea what I can try? Thank you.

While it's true that GPS problem has been discussed at lengths, people normally complain about poor accuracy and intermittent fix.
OP here is talking about another problem which I now experience myself since upgrading to Froyo. Quite often, SGS sees plenty satellites with SNR above 30, but just doesn't use them. At the same time and place my friend's Nexus sees less satellites but gets a fast and sure fix with them. This seems to be a driver problem in Froyo, not a hardware issue.
Edit: Forgot to mention that SGS usually gets the fix eventually, it just takes up to 15 minutes sometimes.
No fix issues have been done to death as well. Normally sorted by dicking around with your supl settings in the hidden menu.
Gps is just ****e on this thing, hope one of the solutions works for you.

It was the first thing I tried as soon as this issue appeared.
Doesn't make much difference if any.
By the way, on Eclair GPS worked just great for me (with JM7, that is. Before JM7 it barely worked at all).
I got the exact same issue, I can see like 8-10 sattelites with plenty of +30db and can't get a fix. My TomTom gps from 3 years old only sees 4-5 but gets instant fix.
Before I was on JP2 and this didn't happen > it fixed fast and sees the same amount of sats.
However, I must say that accuracy is great, when I do get a fix, accuracy goes up to 16 feet within the minute ands stays that way.
can you look into the LBS settings and tell me what is the accuracy used?

Well, to both
LBS Menu: *#*#1472365#*#*
Standalone + "Hot Start" + Accuracy More than 15 + "Automatic" in SUPL settings.
Actually, it's now *#3214789650# (since Froyo or late Eclair ROMs)
I'm using accuracy 30 now. Was testing it with 50 some time ago with no noticeable difference.
Weird, and it was working before right?
Have you hard reseted the device prior and after the rom upgrade and cleared the caches?

Same problem here.
GPS was great and dead-on accurate on 2.1 (O2 UK official firmware) and now it rubbish (O2 official froyo).
This is not a hardware issue.
same problem here, just that there are no values in gps test (time is always 00:00 as well as all others and the compass is jumping back and forth.. the day before yesterday before i've had used faster fix it worked great =( ) anyone knows how to fix without reflashing?
Weird, I got the exact same firmware as a collegue and he gets a fix way faster than me, he even sees sats inside our officebuilding (I see none).
However, using the 3214789650 code and doing the Get Position test, he gets a weird orange text where I just get regular information.

Just wanna share with u guys regard my finding on how temporary fix the GPS issue. Just follow the step below:
1) Install the GPS test app from market.
2)Open the GPS test app and let it search for the GPS signal and locked it. (this step take few minutes.)
3) after get locked on the GPS test app and open the google maps. you now should be able to get GPS lock in few second and enjoy ur navigation.
my testing rom detail as below:
Sombionix nero beta3 rom
Baseband version: JL1
kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Hope this can help u guys and kindly share ur find out too with diff rom u have by the method I given.
Thanks.
Before anything, thank you very much for sharing with us.
But is this any different than actually waiting to get a lock on Maps? I mean if the GPS test takes "a few minutes" why not just wait for Maps to get a lock instead? I just want to clarify things.

Based on my find out, if just open the maps, it will nvr get locked. while using GPS test app, although still take few minutes but at least can locked the signal.

you could have got a lock with lbstestmode(*#*#3214789650#*#*) and then opened maps.
Funny thing is I was using nero 1,2,3 and the obsidian ROMs till now..but I just installed Master's latest AXURA 2.2.5.8. I flashed directly from nero 3 to axura 2.2.5.8 via rom manager without odining back to stock or anything..and magically my GPS locks now in 5-10 seconds.

My gps NEVER worked until I installed Axura 2.1 AND the JL1 baseband.
since then my gps works flawlessly.
it takes about 1-2 minutes to get a lock but then it works perfectly.
try flashing the baseband since AXURA 2.1 comes with JK6 if i'm not mistaken.
do you axura 2.2.1 source? what base is using? I do want to try also...
I don't mean to troll, but this isn't really a "fix," all it does is "prime" Google Maps/Nav so Google Maps/Nav won't give up if it can't find a lock in a set period of time.
There are 3 real "fixes" that exist:
1) Flashing to a newer modem (JL series, take your pick)
2) The hardware fix posted in General from plato which involves improving the contact on the GPS antenna
3) The software fix from the Captivate forums from Da_G that involves changing the jupiter.xml settings for a) removing post-processing and b) using "true" AGPS settings optimized for your network
There are "mini-fixes" that help improve GPS performance (changing SUPL server to supl.google.com:7276, disabling WiFi antenna to reduce EFI), but again these are not true fixes.
Aside from the 3 fixes above, the rest are really just beating a very dead horse.

I dont think its a placebo effect. My GPS was dead until I performed the hardware fix early last week. But even then GM didnt seem to want to lock until I got lock in GPS test first. Someone posted about it in the hardware fix thread. We may have found the hardware problem but apparently there is still a software problem . No matter... Ill take running GPS Test first over no GPS at all.
This method works. I posted about it in General about 2 weeks ago to see if anyone wants to test it but I didnt get any response.
Yes GPS test locks quickly with the JLX modems on the different roms. 8/9 birds within 20 meters in about 20 seconds..blah blah blah. But how many of you actually try to use it during navigation. It works for a while then goes nuts and thinks you are on a street 200 yards away. Sometimes it corrects itself, sometimes it doesnt. Either way it is not reliable.
If you run GPS test and get a good lock then switch over to Navigation. Set your destination. Look back to GPS test to make sure it is still lock then drive. You do not get the jumping around effect. Been doing this constantly for almost a month now without that jumping effect. The key is to make sure GPS test is locked on in the first place. It keeps Navigation from losing that lock and jumping around.
One thing, there are two GPS Tests. Both are nice apps, but for the best lock use the one developed by Mike Lockwood. Open it, start it, and when it locks simply go back home and select Google Maps.
The best true fix is the hardware one. Whatever you do with software is just improvements.

yup. been doing this method for quite a while now.
For me what works and give me a quick lock is going to the GpsRestore Application by Samsung let it restore settings. i don't wait for it to get a lock. I switch to Gpstest application and get a fix very fast most of the time. After that any application that use gps will lock fast.
Hope this helps!
Wow! I can't believe so many people are still spinning their wheels on GPS when a definitive thread which fixes it has been sticked for so long. Especially after someone posted a link to the thread with the fix in this thread.
Heck, the link to the GPS fix was even covered on TalkAndroid in the news section a while ago.

GPS problem solved!
Have had huge problems with my GPS and sought advice both here and other forums.
EVERYTHING has been tried, all possible combinations of room's, radios, and ril'files, fasterfix, gps status, fastreboot, delete cache Dalvik etc. I can not count all the times I've gone out on the porch and pointed my HD to the sky with new hope but no result. The best I have achieved is fix during the 5-10 minutes with an accuracy of about 140m .....
Then I found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qm_z65LA8k
Thank you knglaser
It seems that the GPS antenna sits in the flash cover!
I tried to press the flashcover and it worked just like an on and off switch for the GPS, satelites just fell in and in a matter of seconds I had the fix of 10 satellites This with an accuracy of 5-6m.
Picked out the blitz cover and "adjusted" the contacts between the cover and the phone and put it back in place, it took about 2 minutes.
After this operation GPS works perfectly
I am now happy since this has been incredibly annoying, I use GPS to both training and in the car and have not been to happy to send the phone back to repair since this usally takes long time.
Hope this can help others who are struggling with the same problem?
Thank you for this. At first i dismissed this as my gps problems only started immediately after the ota gb upgrade installed - it was then taking over 4 minutes to get a fix. However in desperation i took phone out of case - simply pressed the cover in the place shown in video (didn't even have to remove) and hey presto now get fix in seconds. Put phone back in case and all is still well.
Simple but yet very effective - thank you.
Not sure why the upgrade should have triggered this problem though?
Rob

Sadly, pushing the cover down is not working for me. Thanks for the video though. I will have to get some tools and pop the cover off to see if it looks like my contacts are no good as well.
apparently i solved my gps problem but not like above. i tried but didnt worked. So i install the new version of gps test, go to settings and then i push clear AGPS from top.then update agps.restart application and seems to work now. I will see. Pls tell me if you try like me and what is your experience
update: unfortunately the problem come back again...

Hi all, I tried everything I found on the Internet.
I thought it was a cable problem, a contact problem.
I opened and closed my Note 3 several times with no luck.
This is what happens: my GPS cannot fix any satellite.
I made a video to show what happens.
Note that it was trying to fix since about 30 minutes.

I found a thread on Reddit that fixed my GPS once, then a thread here that fixed it better the 2nd time. It has to do with pulling the back off and bending the tabs that connect to the GPS antenna on the rear. These threads tell and show all. Follow these and GPS issues should be resolved.

I am having the same issues on my Samsung Note 3 sm-n9005. Accelerometer, proximity sensor, barometer, light sensor, gyroscope sensor and magnetic sensor. All dead now.
I am on Android 6 MM. Using custom ROM DarkWolf. Before flashing custom ROM (stock 5.0) no issues (only issues I having was always constantly "Searching for GPS..." on each time reboot). I also try reflash the ROM and tried another custom ROM Phronesis ROM, no luck. I haven't try flash CM yet. Some mention because of Android version upgrade like lollipop to marshmallow will cause this issues. Currently I unsure is software or hardware cause it. Also, it might cause by motherboard.

Accelerometer, proximity sensor, barometer, light sensor, gyroscope sensor and magnetic sensor? all dead now.?
I am on Android 6 MM. Using custom ROM DarkWolf. Before flashing custom ROM (stock 5.0) no issues (only issues I having was always constantly "Searching for GPS..." on each time reboot). I also try reflash the ROM and tried another custom ROM Phronesis ROM, no luck. I haven't try flash CM yet. Some mention because of Android version upgrade like lollipop to marshmallow will cause this issues. Currently I unsure is software or hardware cause it. Also, it might cause by motherboard. I really have no idea.

Try installing Purify custom rom. It solved all my issues at least for the past week. I think the gps is controlled by the kernel not the modem. I'm using purify rom with purify 1.1 kernel. You can find the rom + kernel and instructions on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ify-cm-13-hlte-n9005-unofficial-cm13-t3337234
A new GPS fix posted in Android Development .
Sent from my SM-N920C using XDA-Developers mobile app
note3 for indoor with apgs. In the beginning, I think it's GPS issue leading me can't play Pokemon. But indoor, we can only have agps, so I try to look at the setting and see if this works for you
1. Use faster GPS to change the NTP server by select continent and region you are in.
2. In faster GPS, go to advance to change setting. Change value of intermediate_post to 0. This one is important and I find it helps to lock my location by agps in a second. otherwise, location is found with 4km error
3. Use GPS status app to reset and download the agps data. This make the error distance even shorter
4. Of course,restart and enjoy
I do this and I can lock my location even indoor with a second. Hope it works for you. I try this out by myself and hope this helps you
Cheers

Nope. Doesn't work. All broken as well. I guess is hardware related.

When on data, have wifi activated even if you are not on a network. It helps.
Hi I'm having issues connectin my friend's non rooted stock s5 to GPS..it either takes a long time or I have to restart the phone, any fix for this? Thanks!
Might just be loosened screws in the back panel, like it happened with my old S4.
I simply just tightened up the screws, especially the around the antenna on the top right corner and it fixed straight way.

Strange. Usually only AOSP ROMs haven't issue with GPS connectivity. Have you tried using any GPS calibration apps?

No i haven't, could you recommend me a reliable one?
TopNTP by Zatta is one that fine tunes settings and has a good reputation, but doesn't have the test functions that others like "GPS Test" (by Chartcross) have, so for testing maybe try one of them.

Oh i know this app. I'm using this for my own GPS solution on my note 3. The note 3 GPS doesn't connect to any satellites at all. But this topntp solution is working for it, but the problem with it is that I have to keep installing this GPS solution every time I want to use my GPS..I don't know why it won't just save. Thanks I'll try this for the s5, if u have any advice on my note 3 topntp problem do tell.
