[Q] I cannot install Nexus Q app on my Galaxy S3 - Nexus Q Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a problem that I cannot install Nexus Q app from market on my Galaxy S3 (stock rom)
it says incompatible device,
I wonder why
even I tried to download apk and install it gives me package paste error
is it meaning the app only runs on Android 4.1? it wont work on 4.0 or below?

It will work once the Q is available for shipping. I contacted Google about it. They said there were still some bugs being worked out but it will be available at launch.

Yes you need 4.1 unless check development forum and see how to change the Q .apk file to work on ICS

I have seen several people say that you need to be running JB to get the Q to work. In the devices manual it says that you need a device running at least GB. Did I miss something here? No way Google is going to release this device to the masses when it's only compatible OS is not even released yet.
I am guessing that at launch Google will update youtube and Play Music to be compatible.

There is a Google support page for the Nexus Q (can't find it right now) that says the current applications only work on JB and the backwards compatible application will be available when they start shipping. If you want to try to get it to work on ICS before then see this thread in the development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28656080&postcount=1

I installed it and it won't work for me either.

Wow! News to me. Thought it was only possible on froyo too.
I read through the comments on that site from the link you posted. They say that it only works on HTC devices although someone
claimed it worked on their Samsung Moment. Anyway, I dont think it works for our device. Im going to give it a shot though.
I just tried it, dosnt work. Propably works on HTC only.
so how to solve??? we have a 2,1 android eclair device , we have flash player package 10,1 for eclair and no way to get it working?? there must be a way !!!
The way is developing now on 4pda.ru by me. It is connected with adobe air.
yes, i took a look :d but for now i see no browser integration right??
Not now, but I think it will be possible to start flash in browser on click.
Doesnt work on my phone too
Flash still doesnt work on Quarx ROM v0.1
It's good news to find out that its possible to run flash 10.1 on eclair. Bad news to find out it doesn't work on the gt540.
Once i search on the samsung galaxy s spica forum and found out the same thing, but to get it running you had to change some settings in the browser.

Did the guys in the galaxy s spica forum talk about what settings in particular needed changing in the browser?
It was in the samsung i5700 section (i'll try to find the info). If im not mistaken they had to change some settings in the browser, but it would slow the browser. Like I said, i'll search and find that info again.
Flash 10.1 requires ARMv7 CPU. So it'll never work unless a binary is compiled for ARMv6.
My 2 cents.

Flash Installer - One click Adobe Flash for Jellybean

Adobe Flash has been removed from the Google Play store. Jellybean devices do not have Flash any longer, making the browsing experience no better than that of an iPhone.
Adobe Flash can be installed by just installing the newest version of the apk, which takes unnessecary searching on the web.
Hence, I created the app "Flash Installer", simply click install, and forget about it. It will prompt you to install flash and then disappear and never bother you again.
Download the app here and give your Jellybean device a dose of Adobe Flash. Boost your browsing experience!
Download (click image): (or click https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=genius.mohammad.flashinstaller)
Clicking anywhere on the picture, I was unable to download this file. It just zooms in the image itself.

Just updated to the latest version. Should hit Google Play within an hour or so.
Guaranteed to work. Also comes with Holoweb browser since it supports Flash well.
Link does not work, please post an updated one or the .apk
Thanks!
You can always manually find the latest version of Adobe flash for Android here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
Scroll down the page to "Flash Player for Android 4.0 archives"
As of this post, this is the latest version of Adobe Flash for Android 4.0*
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...roid/11.1.115.27/install_flash_player_ics.apk
*There is no official support or version for Android 4.1 and up, but the ICS version works without issue (well, some browsers have issues with it or dont support it, but none of my built-in CM10 device browsers have issue and work flawlessly)
All of the above being said, as its unsupported, its all YMMV (or, your own mileage may vary)
i'm flashed again.
the alfa romeo site is a good flash based site to check the app.

Xbox Smartglass

Hey guys,
Just wondering, are we ever going to get this working on our devices?
Apparently it requires android 4.x, tried side loading it and got a "parse error" (Downloaded multiple apk's - Same error)
Hopefully someone will be able to mod a version? if not will microsoft release a version for older model phones?
If anyone has an info please let me know, was really hoping to use this feature but looks like i might need to upgrade my phone.
Thanks much appreciated.
NB: Searched through the other related posts regarding the app but found nothing on making it backwards compatible or anything relevant on getting it to work on older android versions.

Hey thanks for the feedback, yeah i did eventually get it to work using the jellynow 5.1 rom, turns out it works fine on most jelly bean & ics, was hoping to get to work on mildwild rom because its my "stable, everyday, multipurpose use rom" but doesn't look like its possible i've read somewhere it was because of the missing resources in older roms and editing the Build.prop wouldnt solve the issue because of that,so anyways i use two roms daily, the first is the mildwild for work and outdoor use and the second is the jellynow 5.1 when im at home and want to use smartglass.
It's a lil bit of an effort to switch through roms everyday, but it gets job done, well at least until i find a stable newer rom.
Speaking of which, i noticed you posted the CM10 Jelly Bean, I've never tried that one? how's it? any suggestions you could give me?
Either way thanks again.

[Q] device not compatible after installing cm10

After installing cm 10-20130414 nightly I get the message device not compatible when trying to download some apps like hulu plus. Any ideas? Thanks.
Nightlies are experimental versions I assume that you are aware of it? Try to install stable version and tweak it some nighltly features you may find them on google.

There are many device properties that Play Store checks to see if an app is considered compatible. Screen resolution and density, permissions like telephony, location services, gps, and not the least of which is the device name in build.prop. Sometimes changing those things makes Play Store say they are now compatible.
But just because Play Store says it is not compatible does not mean it will not run on your device. It just means Play Store will not let you install it. The solution is to get the app somewhere else, like the Amazon Store, 1mobile.com store or from another device. I have found that the majority of apps that Play Store says is not compatible actually run well on the Nook Color.

try download from other market, or just download the apk.
or maybe the app is just not compatible with jellybean (cm10)

Moto X Kit [Download] By Droid Scoop

Moto X Kit By DroidScoop.net
This kit is a compilation of .apk files and wallpapers that will make your device function similar to the features found on the Moto X. We do not own the rights to any of these .apk's or wallpapers
Whats included:
Active Notifications .apk
Moto X Camera .apk
Moto X Gallery .apk
Twisty Launcher .apk
Sun Beam Live Wallpaper .apk
Moto X Wallpapers
Your device does not need to be rooted to use the following kit, but running an AOSP ROM provides a more intuitive interface.
Keep in mind the Moto X Camera as well as the gallery will not work on all devices. Most of the newer Motorola devices are compatible as well as many of the Samsung Galaxy phones. If issues arise use titanium backup to freeze the stock camera .apk
Also...
Active Notifications and twisty launcher must be configured to work as desired.
Download found at this Dev Host URL: d-h.st/FD1
Do Not Flash From Recovery
To install unzip the file and manually download the .apk files

Unzipped and individually installed I apologize for not specifying that. The zip file I initially prepared was going to be an add on that could be flashed through a recovery, but I was getting too many errors and force closes. Also this allows for more devices to become compatible. Rooted or not.
I'm getting a parsing error trying to install the active notifications apk on my gs4. Im running a custom rom on 4.2.2
Edit: I'm pretty sure it's because active notifications only works on 4.3 phones. I remember this app came out not too long ago and you needed to have 4.3

I'm running illusion ROM 4.2.2 on a GS3 and I have yet to have an issue. I also have successfully used active notifications on a Nexus 4 on 4.3 as well as a HTC droid incredible on Gingerbread.
Try downloading the APK directly from the Play Store if the file is not working.
I think the apk in the zip file may be an older version of the active notifications app. I downloaded from the playstote when I learned it now works with 4.0+ and it works fine now. I just wanted some way to have active notifications

The kit is simply a pack of .apk files which should work fine with most devices. We have already tested these on our T-mobile Note II running an AOSP ROM. Please let me know if any issues arise as we will promptly configure a fix.

I got a parsing error for the apk download for Active Notifications. Does this require me to download the app from the Play Store? I did that before hand, but I deleted it and tried to install the apk and said parsing still.

Try downloading the .apk from the Playstore and let me know how that works; Also what type of device are you using and what OS version. I have gotten this to work on a couple of rooted devices on ICS and Gingerbread but I have noticed that many devices not running 4.0+ are running into problems.

We just flashed stock TW on our Note II and we're getting the same error. So the only fix I'm seeing for this device is to flash an AOSP based ROM

Yeah, I think I am not really willing to root my device at this time. Thanks for the help though. If you find a fix besides the AOSP ROM of my choice, let me know via private message. Thanks, but outside of the Active Notifications, I enjoyed the wallpapers. I hope the Motorola apps will work on all devices.

My apologies for the delay,
The twisty launcher .apk is the only working method to simulate the Moto X's Quick capture camera. I have yet to find a device that supports this native feature other than the Moto X itself.
