Got a small chip on the silver trim on my white SGS3 - Galaxy S III General

Gutted. Noticed it today. A small chip on the bottom of the phone. It's been in a case since day one, no idea how it is happened.

Looks looks a fabrication issue to me. Probably a defect in the frame that have developed into a chip breaking away!
I would have gone back to the store just to see what they said about it.
Who knows, maybe they can arrange something!?

I know mate, it'd bug me too but I'd put it in a case that covers the bezel so I don't have to look at it anymore. As long as the phone is working sound I'd be okay with a few cosmetic marks.

got similar chip as well 2 weeks after i got mine plus my usb port burnt too. sammy asked me to pay another S$250 (already paid $900 for the phone). i refused and wrote something on their facebook plus sent an email to them n got it replaced. good luck.

Is the chip a piece of plastic or only paint?

Mine has small but clearly visible scratch on the power button...

I too has one chip off and one misplaced glue and the back cover started creaking , how can Samsung do this to such a flagship model. I consider it more cheap feel the even S2.

The Sammy pple told me the phone was corroded as there were water in the phone causing corrosion to the chip...blah blah. Told them there were burnt smell but they don't care. I was using the phone as per my other previous HTC phone from desire HD/sensation/one X ie., daily usage plus abt 3-4 times a week jogging with the phone in the arm strap. The only way the water can be found in the phone was from my running.

I guess this really is common. I had the same problem a small chip on the top left corner right near the glass , showed up in less than 2 weeks of getting phone.. The phone definitely never had any impact or anything. Took it to **** Smith Store Where I purchased it and had it replaced with no issues..

Screen completely cracked!

I just dropped my phone and the screen cracked completely. I'm under full warranty and wondering
what I should do. I've had this phone over a year though.

under full warranty meaning...??? if you have never had a courtesy repair done in a S&R corp store, i would suggest trying that before going online and buying parts. unless your handy like some of us and u want to do that most of the time you'll get the one tech that says no but if you get lucky you might get one that doesnt mind actually working on a phone. imho it wouldnt hurt to try that. just ask for a courtesy repair and if they say no, well then on to parts-hunting lol sorry

sorry but I am confused why do you need anyone here to tell you what to do. Its your phone and what are your choices really. They all consist of you spending money so figure out which one is the cheapest for you. Not exactly a community problem in my eyes but more you and your pockets.
Good luck....
You could get a replacement digitizer off amazon and then put it in yourself. I just did that to my tbolt and it works fine and looks great. 30 bucks is a lot cheaper than 100.

Okay so i just broke the actual glass. the touch inputs and everything work fine. what part of the screen is that exactly? Also if its the digitizer, i found there is two versions. One's more narrow and one's wider. I have hardware rev 003. which one would i have to get?
The narrow one might be for EVO3D?

You'll need to disassemble the phone to find out whether you have the wide or narrow cable. All hardware revisions have either a wide or narrow cable, and it doesn't depend on which type of display you have either, unfortunately.

Damn, I have TWICE in the last year had my screen completely shattered as yours, and just took it to sprint repair center (rooted and all), .....30 min later I had a completely new-feeling phone. Replaced screen and bezel.
I've had screen replaced 2 or 3 times, camera lens replaced, earpiece-speaker replaced twice. All on the same evo I bought on launch day.
I don't understand why they gave you any hassle. You try taking it to a different sprint store?

post photos of your sgs3 cracked screen

I thought it might be interesting to see how common this issue is. I am calling it a design flaw.
Single, waist high drop onto tile kitchen floor.
It is an awesome phone but people should be aware how easily this device breaks/cracks.

Unfortunate, but all of these slim smartphones with big nice screens will crack if they hit a hard surface in a certain angle. Looks like your phone hit the floor corner first, that is often big trouble.

How can you call it a design flaw when you drop them? So it's not peoples fault when they drop things and ended up breaking but it's company's who made the product? I like to know what Samsung will say to your comment.....
Sent from my GT-I9300T using xda premium
have you guys watched this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE
Im afraid i must echo the comments above. Dropping onto a tile floor would never end well and would have been amazed had it survived scratch/damage free. I've dropped mine a couple times but my foot has broken the floor and i've been lucky. If it had say cracked in my pocked i'd call it a design floor, but this is sadly an accident.
Wow. No Trolls here.
Yeeeeeeah, we trolls sympathize with you. I'd hate to break my phone! (>_>)
I am sticking with design flaw regardless of the above flamers.
Drop testing is a standard part of QC on all phones. Some manufacturers hold in the highest regard as part of QC.
I believe drop test QC was inadequate on this product.
My only point is to make potential buyers aware of the issue. I still think the phone is awesome and worth buying but people need to know that the phone on its own is inadequately protected from standard daily use so some kind of helmet is recommended.
You need to reconsider your definition of the word "troll". They are not trolling you for a reaction; they are advising you that dropping a glass-fronted device onto its corner on a tile floor is pretty much guaranteed to crack it. It's not a design flaw.
First thing I did when I got my S3 was buy a cover and screen protector.
With such an expensive phone I believe its essential
Still a good post to remind us all, that we should really get a protective case.
None yet here, been lazy, hate shopping, might have to get one online
Swyped on GT-I9300 - XXDLIB - Siyah kernel - JKay & Thunderbolt tweaks.
This is mine.
The crack appeared 2 weeks after I bought it. I haven't dropped it and I don't know how this happened.
Hopefully it's "stable" and it's not getting worse with time. It's been more than a month now.
I had been told that warranty wouldn't cover this so I haven't done anything.
@anthropolyte
If one is not part of the solution one is part of the... a Troll.
No. A troll is someone who baits someone in order to annoy them and get a reaction. People on here are advising you that because you dropped your phone onto a tiled floor, you're responsible for what resulted, not Samsung.
Do you call everyone who corrects you or disagrees with you a troll?

Nexus 4 Bumper Issue

I received my bumper from the Play Store a few days ago. I really like the feel and shape of it, but there is a weak spot in the design of the plastic. Mine has a crack right below the USB port. I don't recall it being there when I received it, but it could have been. And now because of this crack, the plastic on each side of the USB port is angling up towards the middle. If or when the crack spreads all the way through the plastic, then it will be only the rubber part holding it together. Anyone else experiencing this?

Nothing wrong on my end. It kind of looks like the result of the usb cord you may be using. Are you using the usb cable that was supplied with the phone or are you using a third party micro usb cord? Looks like the plastic part of the usb cord is pressing against the plastic where under enough pressure.

That would be pressure in the opposite direction. What you are describing is downward pressure on the plastic, which would close the crack, not pry it apart. I think the crack is a weak spot in the design and happens when installing the bumper. The U-shape of the plastic is akin to pulling apart a Turkey wishbone until it breaks.

What were you doing that the phone was only 2 feet from the ground? Are you that short?

If people hate the back cover, why not just buy a new one?

I mean seriously a plastic back cover is stopping some people from buying the phone? You know what you can do is buy a metal replacement back cover or what ever one you want and just take the existing one off and put the new one on in 5 seconds.
I don't understand the complaining here, if you don't like that glossy back... buy one you do like!

It's pretty sad, because the same thing happened last year with the S3. How about this: put a case on. That way, you won't notice that "flimsy" back cover ever again.

You can probably even replace the back cover with an aluminium one, so no need for a case.
The criticism on back cover is just ridiculous. I mean most of us put the back cover all the time, so why bothering for it. The thing that matter most is the screen and software

Don't forget battery life & processor
What I hate about a metal or glass phone is you have to be careful with it and suddenly the phone becomes horrible to use because you're always scared of scratching. So you get a case and it makes the phone twice as big and way uglier than the GS4 is by default.
With the plastic back cover, it covers the whole rear of the phone that it sits on, so it does it's job properly. Unlike the GS2 which has that big bump at the bottom which is the bit that gets scratches and you cannot replace easily. So you can scratch the **** out of the back of the GS4 and it doesn't matter cause you just buy a new one for a fiver off ebay. The other thing I love is I bent my GS2 back cover in half and it just sprung back and was fine, I'm guessing the GS4 is the same material.
Almost every smartphone owner I know has a case on their phone. Metal body of phones never see the light of the day.
Nerd 1: "S4 is plastic and ugly."
Nerd 2: "what phone do you have?"
Nerd 1: "iPhone 5. It's made of aluminum. You know, metal used for soda cans. Let me show it to you after I take off the Otterbox case. Just give me a minute."

Look at my gorgeous metal phone.. and the butt ugly Otterbox that I put it in
Seriously though, I'm sure there will be better non metal back covers. One disadvantage of metal back covers is the loss of signal and NFC.

It's not most people it's just loud people, most people don't see a phone as symbol of their status and thus just want their phone made of an efficient material, you can get a Ho in the UK for around £26 pm roughly £2.50 a week more than you can get a Samsung Ace on contract, where's the perceived status in a phone an unemployed person could easily afford.

Sweet! That with a built-in wireless charger will do it for me!
I have this baus on my note 2.
