Overclocking the SG3? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I wonder if the samsung galaxy 3 can be overclocked with any kernels. If so, what is the maximum speed that can be achieved. 1.8ghz would be really nice.

I had the international s3 and I had it overclocked to 1.8ghz ....

Just wondering what is the point of overclocking anymore
Are these phones crazy fast already

This is also how i feel. Also you cant overclock the stock kernel until someone releases a custom one. You could try but it wont stick.

I know what you mean .... I just overclocked it to see what was the max to set .... I think that it can hit easily to 2ghz on the international version .... I don't know about the US version ....

I'm not sure I see a point to overclocking yet
maybe after the phones been out a while and everything settles down we could have a custom kernal that would be easy to under or overvolt
but i really dont think the phone needs it...i'm more looking forward to custom roms like a pretty much pure google ICS or JB rom maybe with some extras added in

Bigger e-penis scores (quadrant) duh
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

im using aokp rom and ive overclocked mine to 1.7ghz depends on the phone. some phones can go to 1.8ghz if lucky if not then 1.6 ghz, it varies from phone to phone

I'd imagine Quick Clock would work on these. Not my favorite way to overclock, but its easy.

Overclock advise

Overclock your vibrant phone after rooting it and flashing trigger 2.2?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Did you flash an overclocked kernel?
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Nope I didn't just root and then put trigger 2.6 that's it nothing else
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
You have to install a kernel that allows OC in order to do so. Even then you may get problems if you have a Vibrant thats picky about its voltages.

Just flash one and take it for a spin. See for yourself. I have Axura with Morfic's kernel and its beautiful!

I was reluctant too, flashed the DOW14 and i'm really glad i did.
If you are OK with loss of Battery life over clocking is OK. For me, having a phone that after 24 hr of moderate use I still have 65% battery left is Awesome !!
Giving that that up just to have a higher Linpack or other high benchmark score ...to me is pointless..........
It will kill you phone if you oc high frequency

X10 vs mini

I was on the x10 mini forums and i saw that they have stuff like overclocking and android 2.3.3 thats crazy and i wonder why we cant have it? They got crazy stuff there on the stock kernel? ! How come we cant have it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
We do have Android 2.3.3 and over clocking.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Ok yeah but on a custom kernel that is not yet stable and no 2.3.3 fully stable yet ?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Overclocking is only giving them 1100 quadrant scores and 736mh.
I am getting 1300 on WB's CM6 rom with stock kernel.
There scores are due to their hardware like the processor if we would have overclocking we would surely get way more theñ 1300 my point is how come they managed to do it and.we. cant?

I'm confused. We can. there is a custom kernel that'll let you overclock to 1100mhz. you're free to use it. The mini has had more progress in this department because it has different hardware as far as i'm aware and is more easily modified. correct me if i'm wrong with that.
The x10 mini (pro) is easier to modify because it has diffrent hardware that is easy to modify.
Ohh i though the x10 and the mini would be the same since the only difference between them is the speed the camera and the screen size ;p anyways thanks got my answer

Even though the X10i has more devs and has better hardware the mini jst beats it for the price !!!

Your post is already flawed since quadrant doesn't have good support for dual core... accuracy may be off. Try ChainFire.

unless you re-wrote the APK to support both cores, then you're gonna be better off using either Antutu or CF Bench.
Besides Quadrant not testing both cores, who wants to compare thier phone to the 2009 lineup? Time to upgrade your benchmarking app. I dont need an app to know the Atrix is better than the OGdroid. Quadrant sucks!

Disadvantages of overclocking and why you shouldn't

1. You could literally burn out your processor making your phone unusable at all (think of RROD for phones)
2. If it crashes while writing sd or nand you could loose data such as apps, texts from your boss, videos of your baby's first steps, pictures of your girlfriend and contacts of coworkers
3. Your phone could become less tolerant of workload and have random reboots even on stock RFS at 1ghz
4. A lot more such as battery overheating and possible exploding
5. IT IS A PHONE WITH NO FANS!
NEVER GO ABOVE 1.3 GHZ OR AT BEST STAY ON 1.0 GHZ (OR 1.2) LIKE SAMSUNG PUTS YOU ON DEFAULT (FOR A REASON)...
Please share your opinion of overclocking but don't be mean to others. There arrested some benefits but I say stay under 1.3

In before ___? What is the L?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have run 1.3 solidly since i rooted, no bad sectors or anything. I do understand there are recommended levels but is there any indicator one can use to notice degradation?
Sectors is the nand memory, not the processor. I am just saying the risks of it. Not saying that you shouldn't, just the risks.

I think it all depends on your surroundings, in a hot car I underclock and it still gets hot, outside or in a cold room I push it to 1.4ghz and it only gets warm. Also overclocking on the charger is probably a bad idea too. Just my 2 cents
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I only overclock occasionally for bragging when a friend gets a fancy new phone or something.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Absolutely agree Marcusant. The only people I see random rebooting after release are OC'ing. My phone is superfast at 1000 Mhz and Legendary plus it barely does 1200 anyway so why blow it up?
Also aren't there galaxy s variants that come overclocked at 1.2ghz? Plus the moment was overclocked too. So I guess samsung is fine with overclocking.

I wasn't suggesting this was gonna get locked - just answering your question about what "L" in IBFL meant ....... I am in agreement about OverClocking ( and UnderVolting ) because some phones ( mine included ) don't handle OC/UV very well

exactly. the infuse uses same chipset but clocked at 1.2ghz factory.
Other than for bragging rights, overclocking a phone(especially on the epic) is almost pointless.
Its not like on a PC where you can overclock a CPU 50-100% of its original clocks to yield performance. A .3ghz overclock really get you nothing in the real world.
A year ago overclocking was marginal at best because no apps were able to utilize our phones processor but now with dual cores all around us it will be the only way we can keep up. Don't believe me? Try playing shadowgun at 1.0ghz
