[Q] Anyone able to get Dice Player playing MKVs? - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

I have Dice Player playing nicely on my GS2 and the Galaxy Note. Both of those units are on custom ROM. However, the GS3 just would not work properly. The MKV is a single file that is 3 gigs in size. In Dice Player, it is chopped up into smaller files with each lasting 9 seconds. Other players recognize it as a single MKV file. So it is definitely Dice that is logically dividing the files. Anyone experiencing this?
Nevermind, problem solved. Thread can be closed.

So now i have this new Galaxy 10.1v tab... how do i watch videos??

Anyone struck this hurdle yet ?
Got my tab all set up yesterday... charged it over night, played with it today... thought, right... about to go to bed, might load up a few videos to watch...
Well... I think i was expecting to much for it to play anything out of the box when i went looking for the video player app and there isnt one. You can open files in Gallery... but there is another issue... divx/xvid files with avi extensions do not even show up as being on the device. MKV files do. And they play... all be it with no sound. This started me on a quest... over to the Xoom forums to have a look at those guys... download all of their suggestions... Ok, got the divx sorted. every video player i downloaded would play divx/xvid files with ease. no surprise there... still no files showing up in gallery...
The closest i got to playing a 720p mkv file was with rockplayer... but i ran into the similar issues with rockplayer. when i used it to play the mkv files, if i used hardware decoding, crystal clear picture... no sound. If i used software decoding, sound works... but now the picture it all chopped up and way out of sync...
For the moment it looks like it's back to encoding the mkv files back to xvid... As for this device being able to play 1080p video... i wont hold my breath. From what i have seen of how it plays 720p, it may come in the next update, but for now it even appears to be struggling to play 720p let alone 1080p...
Any ideas, tips or trick you have found that works for playing different video types???
I'm using MoboPlayer which downloads the needed codecs from the Android Market. Tried both divx and xvid, works great.
Also using rockplayer. Will try mobo.

I've also tried QQPlayer which isn't bad and Vital Player, which so far seems to be the smoothest player I've used so far.
I haven't tried mobo yet though.
mobo rulles

MoboPlayer is supposed to support the mkv container format (haven't tried myself).
Quote from MoboPlayer official site:
"The current Mobo version will not support mkv, mov container format which have built-in subtitle streams, but we will complete this feature as soon as possible."
So, it supports MKV as long as it doesn't contain built-in subtitles. I will try it later tonight and report the results.
mVideoPlayer: mkv + subtitle
Mobo player plays .mkv incl. streams. That is ofc on a Galaxy S phone. On a tegra 2, device as far as I have read, there isn't much luck plying .mkv files as the soc doesn't support them. Go figure.

Video format .mkv playback issues on my S2

I have had the phone for about a month now, and have been very happy with the device so far.
But recently after the firmware upgrade, I have notice that the phone is not able to support proper playback of .mkv video files.
I am still able to play them, but not able to fast forward or rewind them, the video just freezes. I am taking about .mkv videos with file size of about 600-800 MB. The Blu ray rips are the ones giving the problem. I have tried different files, and all of them have the same problem, not able to fast forward or rewind.
I use the default video player, no apps.
.avi format works flawlessly ,the biggest file I tried playing was 1.3 GB, and I faced no issues. Its only the .mkv files, big ones, that are giving the problem, after the upgrade.
Anyone facing similar issues, or any solutions to share, please reply.
try diceplayer

MX Video Player on Note

I have MX Video Player on my Note. When I tried playing avi movies, i get stuck in the middle after going back to the player.
Example: I am playing Big Bang Theory avi on MX Video Player, I browsed the movie via ES File Explorer and played thru there. After let's say a few minutes of watching, I click the back button several times until i am now at my home screen. After a few minutes of doing nothing (screen switched off), i went again to file explorer to find the avi file i watched before (in my MX video player, it continues the movie where you stopped), when I clicked the avi file, it gets stuck, I cannot do anything but to long press the power button and restart my phone.
I am experiencing this problem with 4 episodes now of big bang avi files. I tried playing other files like mp4 and i have no problem with the continuation of the movie. This mp4 movie is 2.5gb worth while the avi files are less then 300mb. So i guess it is not a file size issue.
To further filter out the problem, i tried to paste this same avi files in my internal storage and same thing happened. It still get stuck. So internal or external storage are out of the question.
What is the problem then?
Thanks!
I think maybe there is an error on the file, i have no problems with any hd video on mkv, mp4 or avi on Mx Video
sounds like bad files, you could walys try a different player such as dice player to see if it does it with that
Sometimes it loads well but most of the time it gets stuck. I thought if i played it directly on mx video instead of browsing it in es file explorer the problem would be resolved but same issue persists. I will try other players. Would you recommend any other than dice? I will try that one as well.

Use Bsplayer lite. Very nice movie player.

Mobo Player its as good as MX
I use MX player and havent struck any issues with it yet. Could it be dodgy encoding of the files?
I tried mobo player and i haven't encountered my note getting stuck.
What i should do next is to try another avi file, maybe the big bang theory files have bad parts.
Thanks.

I found dice player free version to be the best. Some files audio was not playing on mxplayer pro or I would need to select software encoding etc, sometimes should get audio lag but with dice player same files would play without issues without needing to select software encoding etc. would have bought pro version but no longer available on market.
Moboplayer plays everything. If some files don't work then put the software rendering on.

Can .mkv movies with DTS sound track be played on the Tab 7.7 ?

I have tried the default video player but it cannot play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.
I can see the video part of the movie but so sound can be heard.
Is there a solution to this or do I have to convert my .mkv movies?
Edit: Actually DicePlayer and MX Player can play .mkv movies with DTS sound track.

Shouldn't this be in the Q&A section?
use mx video player , it worked perfect when I played 1080p mkv /w dts video.
Dice Player does this too (and is a better player for the Tab 7.7 overall with better hardware decoding, not much in it though so pick whichever).

Just wondering what makes you think dice has better hardware decoding. I have not tried Dice yet but i have not run into a single problem with mx video player

On my Note and Galaxy Nexus some files don't play smoothly with mx player (they are very watchable, just not perfect like with Dice Player).
Glad to see you here NZ... Haven't try the video part thoroughly... Anyway, MX is still good for me as of now... Thanks for the input about Dice...
You can also try BSPlayer.
I found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vDN-RilC1k
It can also play my AVCHD camera files. (.mts)
One BIG problem is that the player can't play from my ntfs formatted sdxc card.
(Dice+ Mx works)
I have all three installed, but I usually use Dice.
I am having mixed results on my 7.7 - vids with DTS stored on the SD card play nicely when using MX player when the audio stream is set to SW.
However, when the same videos are accessed over the network they are choppy if they play at all. Anyone else experiencing this? I've done some network analysis and the wifi isn't being maxed out or anything.
Maybe I'll start a new thread on this.

@sladey,
There is another thread "wifi connections" that documents some slow streaming prob.
I had to experiment with wifi-g to wifi-n (both 2.4 & 5.0 ghz) to get a steady stream.
No fixed answer at moment as all above settings still hv some intermittent stutter.
Try wifi-g and slowly move up speed.
Cheers

What version Exactly?
MX Video Player v1.6f. You'll have to google for the apk as it's an old version that supported DTS software decoding prior to it being pulled.
yeah I tried them and they aren't supported on jellybean so I got diceplayer and used the special codec file and I can playback my 15GB .mkv's with DTS with no problem even running the cpu at 300mhz on my note 2 it plays back flawlessly on my 64gb ntfs microsd card. So it's DicePlayer that does it for JellyBean.
I appreciate your help though.

N7 video formats?

Just wondering about video format compatability, I have a galaxy s3 and I can dump darn near any video on it and it plays it like a champ with the stock video player. The N7 on the other hand is really picky about videos, and most of the time I have to use vplayer to play anything and it plays like crap. Can anyone weigh in on this?
Use MX player seems to be fine for me
MX or Dice, and throw anything you got at it.
I know you can get video apps that will play different file formats, I guess my main question is why do different devices have different video capability when running almost the same OS?
