For All the converts from iOS, Easy Tunes to port iOS data to Galaxy Devices - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

anyone with a US GS3 tried this out yet?

I am curious if anyone has tried this also. Don't have my phone yet or I would. Have been trying to get the wife to get off the iphone but music is the big reason for her not to switch for some reason.

How to send files via bluetooth

Hi,
I have recently purchased a HTC Hero.
I am not able to find how to transmit files or contacts via bluetooth.
My last phone, HTC Tytn, could transmit contact information from my phone to my carkit (parrot). I am now looking for the same functionality on my Hero.
Anybody has any tips for me?
Regards,
Webster188
Unfortunately you can't at the minute. There are a few apps in the market that you can download (search for "obex") which claim to work but they are all a bit hit and miss. I think your hero needs to be rooted as well.
Yep, this is currently not supported even by a rooted Hero.
However, it is fully supported within Android version 2.0, which the Hero will be getting as an update before too long. So thankfully, we too soon will be able to send and receive files like any old crappy Nokia..
Out of interest does anyone know why Android and the iPhone have struggled with this? It does seem really silly!

Well, when the G1 came out back in Oct'08, much of the Bluetooth support had been pulled from Android 1.0 as Google had not finalized the API. (see here)
Jump forward over a year, and it would appear that this is still the case!
As to the iPhone - I guess Steve Jobs didn't want it!

Dave

I believe it's due to the fact that the standard 'handshake' protocols and the like had not been defined in the bluetooth spec. Android and iphone felt it best to wait for the spec to be finalised. Most manufacturers went ahead with there own version. This is why it's sometimes a pain to get your bluetooth car kit etc to work properly because they are all slightly different. This may be why Android and iphone held off as they didnt want people moaning that it didnt work properly. Now of course we are all moaning that it doesnt work at all! I don't know if the spec's are now sorted or Android have just decided if you can't beat them join them.

[Q] Blackberry Messanger(BBM) on Droid?

Ok, this is probably HIGHLY unlikely, probably IMPOSSIBLE, but does anyone see a future for having BBM on an Android device? Lol, just wondering.
EDIT: I'm talking about the ACTUAL Blackberry Messenger NOT imitation applications.
i miss bbm as well ! i was told its not possible because bbm goes through bis, and our phones dont have a pin# ?
Correct. Completely impossible. Android has no way of connecting to a BIS.
Sent from my HTC Incredible
Oo, darn. I'm trying out my friends Blackberry and I'm starting to like BBM, but I don't think I'm going to keep it, I like my droid too much.
another reason it wont work is that it uses the blackberry's pin number...we obviously dont have those
Liveprofile is the way to go.
You can't talk to people with blackberry PIN's but you can talk to all android user's and maybe iphone users. Not sure but it does show D delivered and R recieved and also you can see when they're typing.
Yeah, but I'm from the Detroit area, and for some reason the Android scene hasn't come yet. Everyone is still using blackberry's. I feel like I'm the only Android but I still love my droid. I wish more people had Android where I'm from :/
You Droid is better than the Blackberries, don't let the clique coolness of BBM discourage you. Good old text messages aren't outdated just yet.

Lol so true, we need to convert everyone to Android! For like a week I guess BBM was down and people started using GTalk, I felt cool for once!

RIM Blackberry Services on NON-BB Devices SOLVED
Anything is possible guys, the people that bring us apps and OS's in question always limit what we can do with it in order to one day unlock the feature we want at a cost. BBM for many people is a very cheap way to communicate wordwide like skype and msn ect but without real-time voip or voip (video).. RIM has said they will bring the BBM or and or the whole OS to other devices. The biggest problem is that everyone wants stuff but never willing to pay for it. BB and the PIN from RIM withing BB only devices is a way to keep us on a BB device which means no matter what phone we have like i have an HD2 / WIN 6.5/ Android via SD, we still have to have a crappy or really expensive BB. I'm sure if people started to go into their pockets and donating to devs or even went into official BB forums and asked RIM representatives to initiate a premium service package for other devices to use another form of PIN thats software driven at extra cost than buying a BB or better yet, if u own a BB and are prepared to get a cheap BB device just so u got a pin and use it remotely to push BB info and BBM stuff like how the BB PLAYBOOK I believe will run BBM. At present, a bb pin is required so in order to be part of the RIM service you must have a Blackberry so in a DEV's way of thinking, we need to somehow create a bluetooth or GSM driven app that can transmit all BBM activity to a non-BB device..

Native 3G Video Call

I have a Galaxy S. It's a great phone. But now I want to move for dual-core phone or any other phone superior. One thing that got me stuck, is native 3G video calling. What phones are currently supporting this huge feature other than Galaxy S? I wanted Nexus S, to experience pure Android but it bumped me up to know there was no support for this feature. So someone please give me an idea or any news when Android will support this? My Symbian had it since 2006. That's a shame for Android.
The problem with native UMTS video calls is that it is being abandoned by everybody, not only Android.
The carriers are to blame. My carrier, for example, charge $5/month to enable the feature. Result: nobody uses it, so the standard is dying.
Also one other major problem was that you couldn't call a PC.
I'm sorry to hear that. My network provider video call rate is same with voice call. And also I got to use my phone number. And no software needed. It works on all phones that have 3G and front facing camera. That is a huge advantage than typical data calling.
Well, the solution is just having another phone to be a sidekick for video call. Android has so many things to improve before it can be called ultimate OS. For now, it just keeps me getting back and back to good old Symbian.

heres an idea, use appadmin or mybackup pro to backup your sgs dialer apk then try to install it to other phones that doesnt support native 3g video call like dell streak or sensation. it might work ;p

[Q] Nexus 4 few questions

Hey guys, first post here so hey!
I currently have an iPhone 4s (I upgraded from an HTC Desire, so I am pretty familiar with android all be it on 2.2!)
I also mainly use my Macbook pro due to my degree revolving around mac software, final cut etc.
I saw the Nexus 4 and realised how much of a bargain it is and how great it is in terms of hardware. I am by no means an Apple fanboy and all the flaming around that.
My main question is as follows... Due to me using a mac mainly, will I have any issues with compatibility with my Nexus 4 on my Mac, I mean of course I'll be able to connect etc... But in terms of adding music, and just general tinkering will I encounter any serious limitations with this?
I previously went iOS for the simplicity, but I missed the whole deep customisation features of the Android platform. In the past year I've even been relying more and more upon Google products such as "Drive" and things like that. So I guess thats another main contributor to the fact i'm going for the Nexus 4
So any responses would be appreciated!
As far as i know your only issue is that you need some software to get MTP support, which Google provides: http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
With Android, as long as you use the right software to playback your media, it will detect anything your your storage. It's just if you are used to iTunes syncing feature, you will have to find a different sync app, or manage your music library in a different way, I am not versed in Mac softwares for these purposed though. But with Google Music it can sync music to the cloud and you can stream it.

Thanks for the responses guys!
Yeah I was mainly worried about my music (I was considering buying a nano or something along with the nexus seeing as nexus 4 is so cheap! haha)
Although it does sound like I should be okay, I understand ill have to stop using iTunes, I assume my music purchased on iTunes wont be able to be played on the Nexus when I get it?

It's likely that it won't work due to DRM limitation, but saying that some songs I've bought on iTunes and simply transferred over to my HTC Desire play just fine. If you are limited by DRM issues, convert the .m4a files to .mp3 and you're good to go! ;D
I am in the same boat as you, except I come from an iPhone 4 and prior that a Nexus One.
Just downloaded Android File Transfer for OSX, thanks!

Yeah second I saw this phone I realised how this was too good of an opportunity to miss! Put my iPhone on eBay yesterday haha
Guys music is a non issue. Even if you download your music from iTunes. They have been selling their music DRM free for some time now. I use iTunes and have the google music uploader program and it keeps my music in sync. No fuss no muss. Just download the free program from Google.
I am a Mac user and up until recently have been an iOS user primarily. I am going for the N4 and based on my experience with the N7 won't have any problems integrating in with my Mac setup. This is the beauty of Android.

iPhone 6splus to Galaxy s7 edge

Hi guys,
I am contemplating a change from the IPhone 6 Plus to the Galaxy s7 edge. I think the phone is awesome after playing with it some at the store. Couple of questions that I have.
- How does iCloud email work on the s7 edge, I've had android before (S3 I believe) and the email push was terrible, emails wouldn't come in etc.
- I have iCloud photo sharing with numerous people in my family, is there anyway to continue sharing photos taken with the s7 edge? I know it's Android/IOS but is there some sort of workaround or app? Any solutions from the pros?
- I am also subscribed to Apple Music with family app, so I know Android has an Apple Music app now, anyone using it? How's it work?
FYI I also have an iPad Pro I use for school/work, mainly using MS Office apps.
Thanks! I hope to be picking one up today!
I ditched my iphone 6 plus for the s7e. Left apple completely minus podcast i listen too on ipod. No regrets at all.
As for ur questions i cant answer them as i never used those apple services. Ou time i used icloud was the free 5gb it offered. After that didnt make sense to pay for 50gb although it is appealing but i have a 2tb external hard drive. Two actually so dont need the apple service.
Thanks for the reply!
If you don't mind me asking when you say you ditched apple completely, what other products did you have and what did I you replace them with? How's that going?
