I just posted a very positive review of the TF300 today and just got back home after being at work for ten hours. I left the dock and tablet at over 95%, but just got home to find the dock at 0% and the tablet at 46%. This is obviously awful and makes the Toshiba Excite seem great in comparison.
Settings:
MobileDock battery saving mode is on
Disconnect network during sleep is on
Set to balanced mode
Set to turn off after two minutes
I turned the tablet off before I closed to the dock and when just opened the display was off.
The only two listings are 64% for screen and 36% for idle.
Is this normal? If so, this is abnormal.
weird, i don't recall that ever happening to me... try it again, charge it to %100 and leave it on sleep mode at night and check in the morning if the problem persists. if so you may have a defective unit so return it using your warranty.

Another thing I notice is at least in Dolphin, the browser crashes when trying to view Flash video in full screen. I have never had that happen with any tablet or phone before. Weird. Like always, set in desktop mode for user agent.
Edit: Must have been a fluke since a restart fixed it. need to charge now anyway to see if I get the drain again.
I noticed if you turn off the tablet then dock it, the tablet will turn back on. But have never noticed a battery loss that significant. So be sure to dock the tablet first then power down the tablet.

Most browsers arent 4.0 optimized best browser i have found is boat browser its amazingly smooth and full screen flash is working

I've had mine for over a month now. Had something similar happen one time. Best I could figure out was ICS did not properly shut down a game I had running. I assume it was just a rare random occurence.

It did it again last night:
Made sure no apps were pushing data and turned notifications off for all apps
Restarted the device and opened no apps
Five minutes later I put the device to sleep (closed it).
The display was off
Result: This morning the dock was dead and the tablet was at 65%. This was after only six and a half hours (I usually do not sleep much).
The only activity was the display at 84% and idle at 16%. I checked a few times through the seam of where the KB and tablet are closed and the display was off for thirty minutes before went to sleep. I then had to get up a few hours later to let my dog out and the display was still off.
The last time I had problems like this was the infamous A500 problems where the display would come on, stay on and the device would die. In this case, the display is not coming on, yet the display is eating the battery and the device is warm (dock and tablet). The A500 was obvious, since the display was on.
Folks, I just want something to work correctly. My HTC View loses 5% over three days and my iPad 3 wifi loses 1%.
How can the display be off, yet the device be warm and the battery log show the display is the majority of the usage? No doubt the display was off (at least at the times I checked).
The display is the majority of the usage period. When in normal yesterday with 100% brightness the display used 99% of my battery use. That extra 1% was for the dozen or so apps I had used. The fact that the idle hit that high is a good thing but something else may be affecting it.
Have you tried disconnecting the tablet from the dock and then letting it sleep?
That is my next test, but if they can not behave together, the value of having the TF300 diminishes. I would need to keep them is need to leave seperate, since defeats the function for me.
I see the point in at least testing to see if the dock is the issue. Could be a bum unit, but also could be the dock does not like cards being left in.

My tf300t works amazingly without any battery problems.. I'm a very heavy user of it. also try getting that app that monitors background/network process...forgot name if someone could help. Also the dock could be at fault since the dock automatically turns on the tf300t same as if you would charge it with the cable it turns it on while charging.
I believe the build.prop mod contains something about deep sleep that might help ya but if ur in the 30 days just replace it why bother when u might have an intermittent defective unit . problems that can happen once in a while might be a pain in the ass later on.
I do not regret choosing this tablet over everything else on the market it works great and it is replacing a laptop for me.

Maybe because you just close it something doesn't shut off. I don't own the dock.... Yet but when I do I think the extra life out of that will be awesome. On a second thought I was also wondering what would happen if you just left it on the charger overnight? I put my phone in a dock to make it my alarm clock every night with no problems. Is a tablets battery different that it wouldn't be healthy for it to be left on the charger? Or does it needs to fully drain then charge to 100%?

I agree it is nice system so hope I figure it out. My Office Max dock should be in soon, so have to return this dock anyway. OM was $100 (sale) and BB is $150. BB matched the OM price on the tablet ($350), but the dock was not in stock at OM. Ended up ordering one online from them.

I normally do leave it on charger but it is problematic when away from home, since uses as much battery as when on. Not to mention it can not be doing the batteries any good.

For process of elimination I tested the battery drain with the sdxc card out of the dock. This seems to help, but still have over 20% battery drain (a lot less, but still bad).
Next step is the tablet on its own and then I will test with my newer dock, since just came in from Office Max (need to return the $150 one to Best Buy). Hoping the dock was the issue since if the dock and tablet can not behave together, I will return them and not dwell on it anymore.
Hoping the drain is gone so can keep Having the sd card, micro sd and 32gb internal solves all my gaming and media needs, but need the batteries to not bleed out when should be asleep (not practical to travel with- as is).

Aftera few full cycles i notice battery depletion much slower also I keep the tablet in balance and performance when gaming things like nova 3 and tegra stuff etc. And around 25-30% brightness is more than enough indoor . My battery last me all day on 1 charge including the dock wich it charges arund 60-65% extra battery. This are just estimates through my experience with it not concrete data.

I have 40 more days to return the tablet with Best Buy, so want to see what the issue may be and avoid resinstalling everything and setting up if can avoid it.
I really like the tablet and also that it is not clocked higher (better for heat and battery). It plays N64, PSX and MAME Reloaded fine. Ditto for Flash and hidef video content. Touch response is as good as my iPad 3 and former Toshiba Excite.
Also, for $350 the tablet is REALLY nice. Not wanting to paying much more, since already have a 64gb iPad 3 (2X the cost of the Asus). I mainly use Android tabs for Flash sites that do not work on the iPad (Amazon Prime is example) and game emulators. Heck, even books and comics look sweet on the 300
Along with the dock, the 300 makes a GREAT mini-system for games and media
Besides, I am not a fan of 1920X1200 displays being pushed by the Tegra 3 and no gpu modification. The chips sweet spot is 1280X800. My iPad 3 rocks with hi res but has a bigger gpu to support it.
Update: Even with the new dock the batteries are sucking dry. 20% gone in a little over an hour. It is like the display is on, based on the drain.
Will test tonight with just tablet, since same result with two docks.
I hate to ask this because it's seems so obvious & condescending - but what have you installed? Did you try doing a factory reset? I've had 5 android phones and few times I've loaded some obscure piece of software that killed the battery. I've even loaded ROMs that sucked the battery down with no mods.
I ask because I just got my TF300 yesterday and played with it all night without charging it. I did the 4.0.30 OTA update as soon as it booted up. I let the keyboard completely die and left the tablet (undocked) this morning with 56% on it. I didn't put either on the charger because I want to see roughly how long it will run without doing so. I'm hoping I have no problems such as yours, but I'm watching this thread closely.
Ok, so you know what my usage is - Like I said, I left this morning (6:30) with the keyboard dock battery dead & the tablet battery at 56%. I got home this evening (5:00) and the tablet was at 53%.
Luckily I'm not seeing the problem you are (though I haven't tried to charge the keyboard yet), but at least you have a warranty to fall back on.

Just got my dock today and all I have to say is, wow. This is one helluva sweet device now. The functionality of both touch screen and keyboard rock!
I love the extra expansion, it's crazy how how much extra you get with the dock. I can now have the 16g onboard + 16gig micro sd plugged into tablet and 16g Sd plugged into dock. That's one helluva lot of storage for a tablet and for the price, it's outstanding. Add the two USB connections and it rules. Looks damn good too.

Man, it never ceases to amaze me how many people just want to whinge on this forum. Just plain amazing - now go back to the dock-battery thread.
Love my dock too - use the tab about 6 hours a day, charge the tablet every or every second day, but it is fantastic when out and about. Last Sunday was out and about without access to Internet or computers for 12 hours - but my trusty TF brought me season 3 of "The Big Band Theory" to keep me entertained!
Maybe yours is an early version or defective, mine doesn't drain like that. I've had no charging issues. The keyboard will always charge the Transformer unless it is fully charged and use the keyboard battery first, if the Transformer is using WiFi or GPS it will drain the keyboard.
absolutely agree with OP. Fantastic device, even if it does have a few quirks. I wish the root development scene was moving a little further, cause there is alot of potential for this thing!

Actually, I don't think that'll be an issue. I have the newer dock model (B60KAS) and from what I've read/seen there is no drain.

I'm starting to wish I were an affiliate, I've sold three people on them and they're all very pleased.
Me and my eee pad plus dock have now, reached an understanding, it is a truly amazing device when coupled with the dock, as an avid fan of android from launch and the owner of an original I pad, I have now realised that all my gripes are based on comparison with the I pad. OK it does have a few little annoyances, but on the whole after a month of use, this thing seems to be getting better by the day. I think Asus are bang on the money with the TF. The screen is superb and build quality better than most high end laptops. I agree with earlier comments about the negatives played against the TF being over the top, I myself was of the original wingers. But everything it does that works OK, it does brilliantly, and im sure the rest will follow.

Yes, dock is really great.
I charge my TF once a day (during the night) and could work a whole day of meetings, mail replying and browsing without to be worried of battery lack.
However, I think the battery time could be better (perhaps, Prime 1.5 combined with 1.5 Ghz kernel is the cause), seems to be better when I was with stock system. The Dock also provide a very convenient way to type texts, etc... without transporting my portable PC.
A very good investment (even somes think it's not really necessary) on my side.

I own a b50kas and have no drain, others have, nobody even knows whether it is a defective tablet or dock that causes the problem, how many tablets docks are affected ? Maybe only a few, if i would have this problem i would rma both tablet and dock.

I was pretty sure everybody has this battery drain issue but now seeing some peeps come out of the woodwork just today claiming they don't. Now I didn't notice this battery drain issue until other users started mentioning it so then I paid closer attention to it, well that plus somebody put out a battery widget that showed you the dock level whereas before I didn't have a way to check. I have not shut my Transformer off while docked and let it sit to see if it then doesn't drain, if it doesn't then I suspect it's possible some of us including myself have some app running (maybe the dual battery widget?) that's causing it. I shall try this tonight.
I think the reason that a few don't see the draining is that they using the combo with a transformers at 100%. Because i doing it right now and i don't see the problem. So everybody with the problem should charge both to 100% and testing it.

No as I stated my tablet is always at 100% and I have this issue, I actually just leave mine docked all the time and when I put it up for example when I leave for work, or go to bed, my tablet is 100% and the dock may be anywhere from 30% to 96% and this issue happens, so it has nothing to do with not having it at 100% when you dock it.
I wonder, does everybody here use a dual battery widget? I've always wondered if maybe the widget itself is the cause, liek it' spinging the dock for battery level all the time. Would be interesting to see if we say charge everything up to 100%, uninstall the battery widget and reboot just to ensure it's gone and not left running, then let it sit idle and reinstall it later and recheck. I may do this tonight/tomorrow and see.
I agree. I ordered the dock with mine when I got it and haven't looked back. I use it with the dock probably 90% of the time. Its a good mix of function and form for my use. This device pretty much replaced a laptop/netbook/tablet for me. Combined with a WiFi hotspot from my Inspire 4G this thing rocks.

I can't believe how hard can be to have a fully working device these days.
I really like the tf101 with the docking station, specially on the road, I used it(dock) for 1 month,then shelved it, and now starting using it again, here is my list of issues:
1. After tweaking my docking for a possible battery draining problem(partially solved now), my dock doesn't come back after entering power saving mode(most of the time), only works when AC power adapter is plugged in.
2. I have to press the power button for it(a loose power button, that eventually have to ship it to asus for repairing), then my sd card slot is not being recognized at all, all my sd memory contents remain "unseen"
3. I found out restarting the tf101 will solve my issue(temporary) until tf101 goes on power saving mode and we start the cycle all over again.
This is just my 2 cents opinion, I appreciate if all fanboys here(if any) just try to be realistic about this tangible shortcomings:
Is it really worth it to have a device like this?, I will attempt to service it with Asus separately, will have to unroot my tf101 first. Is it really worth all the time I have to spend troubleshooting an immature device/platform? $550 spent(TF101 +dock) wasn't exactly a pocket change ? I think android devices, specifically asus tablet devices are still a long road away to become real working solutions for travelers/professionals. Do we really have to tolerate and live with those current limitations? I don't think so. My MSI X340 and hansspree 12.1 dual core netbooks despite their shorter battery life and larger sizes just do the work. I'm seriously considering getting a mac book air 11.6 which will allow me to get the best of worlds (windows and mac) for about 30% more will cost me to get a TF201 and dock combination.
I will keep my tf101 just to try out ICS (if ever gets officially released from Asus)
I'm finally got tired of dealing with immature wannabe gadgets. I'm going to miss android, will probably come back to try out the TF700T later this year.
I will start by saying i am having similar dock issues. Battery and having to hold power to reboot because it wont always come out of sleep. I recently mistakingly grabbed my GF`s dock in the place of mine one night and in the three days it took me to realize what i had done, all my issues seemed to disappear. I realized what happened bscause she started complaining about the same issues on hers. I have had my dock back for 2 days now and the battery and device lag seems to still be there but i have been able towake the device up so far. I hope i can just send off my dock and see what they can see while still hunting for a fix i can do.
Second, I recently had to explain this to my mom, though these issues are annoying, remember that all devices like this have a potential to have issues. My parents recently got an iphone in thehouse (work requirement), and it was dead in 20 minutes, the line at the apple store showed a story of others with dead devices. Moms expression of "I thought apple devices never die" was cute to hear in the store. It happens, dont get too discouraged.
rma because it sounds like you have a defective device. The battery drain is common, mine seemed to have been fixed with the latest firm ware update.

How are firmware updates performed for the dock?
I've gone through 3 docks by now. They all worked flawlessly for me. Don't get discouraged. You should RMA and see what they can do. There are at least 3 out there that work great.
of course, Dock has latest firmware update.
I sent them an email and just waiting RMA instructions
I contacted them twice over the phone, and got disconnected twice as well, coincidence? maybe. The whole RMA process with Asus products is overall complicated. Asus online password recovery feature Does not work. their website must be down or under maintenance. At least I got a Case number just have to wait now.
Will RMA both units if possible, my TF101(loose power button) and my Dock device(drainage and power saving issues).

Assuming you are not rooted and running a 3rd party kernel, the dock's firmware is downloaded and installed automatically. You should see a little icons that will announce the update.
Yeah. I'm RMAing my one as well because of dock-issues.
That ************ just causes battery-drain left and right when connected, even though I bought it to double battery-life. It easily killls off my existing battery-life by over 80%.
Amazing. And amazingly stupid.
I hope they manage to fix this, or I will be forced to hate what could have been a ingenious device.

There is none. I saw the same with lenses for DSLRs, most manufacturers prefer to sell without quality control and then exchange those that are bad (only if user notices the problem of course).
As an amateur photographer I've never had any issues with canon DSLR lenses, ever. Used to be an Asus fanatic, not anymore, all my monitors are Asus(the high end ones) 24, 25.5 and 27", they haven't failed to me...yet
my 18 month Asus gaming laptop(paid $1200) starting to fail, my LCD was causing some flickering. and decided to fix it by my self(out of warranty), I replaced the video card(nvidia gtx260m), lcd video cable and it didn't fix the problem, I replaced the LCD 16" made by LG, and problem solved, however It set me back almost $400 in parts, not quite happy at all. I guess all electronic devices are disposable these days. 5 days and counting waiting for the RMA, come on Asus!
well, finally my tf101 dock "passed away" ,100% drainage issue, battery eats up even my tf101 tablet in 8 hours or less, it does happen all the time now, 1 week waiting for the RMA and nothing, I filed individual RMA requests for my tf101 tablet and tf101 dock. Will attempt to reach them over the phone today one more time.
finally managed to get those "helpful" asus employees over the phone, will RMA my dock only, to be honest at this point I do not thrust them anymore, I can live with my loose power button on my tf101 tablet, as long as the dock works properly. I will overnight my dock and will see how long does it take to get service.
I RMAed my dock Saturday. Will see what happens.

I plan to contact them this week about RMA`ing my dock as it will go from 100% to 3% in 24 hours while onlg being on the tablet for less then 3 of those 24 hours.
I don't doubt that people have had issues, but I just wanted to say that my experience with stock HC has been great. Very few reboots or lock ups. The dock battery seems satisfactory, although it is obviously smaller than the tablet's battery.
I did have a problem with the tablet battery draining quickly overnight, but that disappeared after I uninstalled a certain app (Mail.com's app), and installed the Auto Airplane Mode app.
For those who are experiencing high battery drain, have you tried going back to stock HC and uninstalling apps that are constantly trying to access the internet? Maybe it's not a problem with the hardware?
I've done that before requesting a RMA, came back to stock, delete all apps, all delete widgets, installed airplane mode and still had the drainage issue. So it's definitely a hardware issue.
I started having this weird problem the past few days. My tablet seems to become very hot while charging. It also runs quite hot when on wifi. As a result the battery performance seems to be degrading. Any light on this...our has anyone faced similar problem. A possible solution to this would be highly appreciated.

They have also said that it will not affect the longevity of tablet or battery in any way . My tablet does get a little warm while charging and after heavy usage. i guess its universal

I wouldn't worry if the tablet was getting a little warm. But the moment i turn on the screen, the left side of the tablet. both back and front become exceedingly warm even without running any intensive programs. The issue started about 2-3 days back only. i never had this problem before.
While charging the tablet is literally quite hot, and like I said more on the left side.
I think I need to go to a service center to get it checked.

If the battery gets hot, the effects are similar to those of overcharging. You know how bad overcharging would be. So I recommend you to take a deeper look into the issue.
Taking it to service center is a good idea; but since the service center would wipe your tablet clean anyway, so why don't you check if there are any background processes that have been causing this acting up lately? Messengers like whatsapp/line, screen lock apps, weather and news widgets, adware/free games with ad are examples of the apps that would be taking background resources, you would like to check whether you have installed new apps like that.
Most background processes usually won't cause your battery to act up, except when they got stuck on something. You probably couldn't fix it by yourself so you would better track them down and remove them.
TasKiller is one of the app that could show you background processes. There are countless others good app for the same purpose.
My tablet has been on charge (while off) for almost 24hrs and still hasn't fully charged yet.

Do you use the stock wall charger to charge it?
So I thought of making a thread on your experiences with the battery consumption ratio depending on use etc. My main reason of doing this is because I suspect my dock has a bad battery and I would like to see you guys experience with your tablet/dock combo.
Noticed much difference between power saving, balanced and performance mode?
Processor wise I know each has a rating of 1ghz,1.1ghz and 1.2ghz. I dont see how this would make a big impact in battery life. Now I dont know if these also regulate anything else than the cpu frequency as to make it a noticeable thing.
Whats's the ratio of your Tablet/dock charging? ( what I mean is once your tablet reaches 70% and dock kicks in to charge how much battery would it be left on the dock after tablet reaches 90% wich is point where dock stops charging..
If I leave it charging without using it my dock is left with about 55% battery.
Last night I left the tablet at 52% and the dock fully charged so I left the tablet in sleep mode and charging with the dock. when I come to check on it battery was at 90% dock at 25% . I'm curious if the scaling is alright or am I having a performance loss.
I noticed the dock discharging while it is not supplying battery to the table ( By the time my tablet reaches 70% for the dock to kick in to charge the dock has gone down to 98%).
The biggest power drain is definitely screen brightness though this IPS display seems really nice indoors no more than 20% brightness seems to be needed.
I would also like it if we could post your advice for a better battery life on these wonderful tablets to later on make a recollection of all and post them on 2nd Post

Well this is what I got in my head so far if your willing to post any other experiences or advice I would gladly appreciate it.
I'm somewhat of a complete noob, I'm here to learn and share my experience with other users.
Battery life tips.
1. If distance is not an issue use bluetooth tethering instead of wifi tethering. It consumes less battery on both devices.
2.Try using the brightness level you need not max it out like most people do.
3.If your an active user on wi-fi, turn on setting for wifi not go to sleep. Every time tablet goes to sleep mode it would be disabling and enabling Wi-fi wich in many devices this has proven to consume more battery than keeping an active connection.
This list will keep growing as more tips are posted.

For whatever reason, the dock and tablet together equals massive battery drain in sleep mode, where the tablet on its own only uses one percentage point over night. The majority of both batteries are drained if docked in sleep mode.
I charged the dock to full on its own and unplugged it and will check this evening to see status.

Well when I am not using my tablet for sleeping or working I usually just shut it down. Doesn't make sense to me to just always have it on. I'm usually away from it for long periods of time and it doesn't take long to boot up. Plus if I go to use it later in the day or a few days later I'm not looking for my charger because I fully charged it before shutting it down. I keep a laptop/computer mentality with it where if I'm not using it turn it off.

Well as I said before on ur thread I would replace it in ur case though a corrupted firmware could cause that. On my g2x a bad Install once drained my battery like crazy so might want to try that. I think u need to unlock though

I do not think there is any firmware in the dock itself. I think it is a pure slave device that is controlled by the tablet. The tablet on own does not have a drain issue, but when docked they do together.
On my second dock now with same result.
The tablet and dock together ironically seems to have the same battery life in sleep mode as my Q2670 Lenovo 14" gaming laptop = bad I was hoping the dock and tablet combo would be just as efficient as an Android tablet on own and avoid having to cold start when using it (that seems so Windows to me).

Well in my case I am replacing a netbook.
I use it for a lot of things like Torrenting, college notebook,games, media,internet browsing etc. I give it its full use.
Asus already knows about this problems. Its due to bad software in the keyboard dock (yes there is software for it/ only Asus can access it.) Its actually B.S. the only fix is to send dock to Asus and pay shipping urself. And they'll fix and send back. Prob about a month later
Or you can use the tweeked build.prob like I did. Shuck will allow deep sleep while docked.
Deep sleep = no battory drain
Just be careful with changing build.prob
read 5 times fully can't go wrong lol

Are there docks that do not have the problem that can be identified? This seems a silly miss by Asus.
Both docks I got from two retailers have the issue.
Also, do you need root? Any guide to fixing and links documenting the problem are appreciated.

Ive also tryed returning dock for a new one. No luck
I'm not sure but I think the docks only work as suppossed to on. 17 firmware. That's my best guess. Just look under development section. Only post by seanzscreams can't miss it for tweaked build prop.
Believe u need root. Or process alot easier if you have it. Just be careful if you don't follow instructions exactly can brick. But if you do everything which isn't much and not hard at all even for a noob

My dock seems too be working just fine and if this where such a common problem it would be everywhere.... im half sure the problem is ur guys tablet as it seems tablet controls functions on dock...

Separated, my tablet consumes 1% in ten hours and the dock about the same when in sleep mode. When together over the same time, they collectively drain almost 70%. The dock is dead and the tablet with the rest.

No kitties here. As stated, they both work fine on their own and have had two docks. Testing another 300 yielded the same result.
The problem is the two pieces together. I think the sleep mode is borked when docked and bleeding power at a non user level.

So... back to battery saving tips.
I get scary long battery life by just reducing screen brightness. Would like to mess with build.prop but haven't yet. I know there is replace n go's out there but I want to find out which settings do what specifically. Still looking for more information on the subject.

I give this about 8-9 hours daily on 1 charge of tab\ dock.

My battery life:
Docked and using fairly heavy- about ten hours
Docked and in sleep mode- Both batteries dead in 14 hours
Undocked and using fairly heavy about seven hours
Undocked for over 12 hours tablet = 98% Another time was 99%
Undocked, the dock went 24 hours = "100"%
Ironically, my problem is with the device docked in sleep mode. Two docks, two tablets- same issue. No info showing an app or media task causing it, so lower level bios issue. Both tabs newest firmware, no clue what the docks are/were. Have one each now.
Those having problems, check "Settings/Asus Customised Setting/Mobile Dock Battery Saving Mode"
Enable it and see if it matters

I jumped in and bought a K1 to replace my dying GPad GPE. After 3 days, this seems like a huge mistake.
The K1 is very laggy in basic apps like Play Store and Chrome, does not register touches very well and has terrible battery life. I even charged it overnight and didn't get a full charge. On top of that, I am constantly getting the screen overlay message any time I need to enable a permission.
What could be causing this? This tablet is so highly regarded I don't get it.

For charging you need a 2 or 2,5 A charger. Then it will charge (if it's not faulty) in around 2 hours. The screen overlay message is coming from the quick launcher (or how it is called). So disable it or give it the right to draw over other apps.
I don't have problems with lags or touches. Are you on the latest updates?

Its got a crappy Nvidia CPU in it, thats the issue. Like my N9, that too is crap, again, Nvidia inside.

I am using the correct rated charger. This even happened when charging with the tablet off.
I am on the latest update. I waited to install my apps until after all updates were applied. The touch issues may be lag related. The back button almost always requires multiple touches. Keyboards often time register multiple touches or just freezes.
I am also noticing network issues. Apps report loss of connection when the wifi shows connected.
I hate to say it, but I am leaning towards returning this for a Samsung.

Also a recent owner of the k1. Running stock firmware (1.5) but with BitO-K kernel. The only thing I am experiencing is mediocre battery life, charges from 50-100% in under an hour using a 2.5A charger. The only thing that sucks, and this goes for android tablets in general, is the removal from 4.4 of the TabletUI. Seeing we're already at 7.1 and TabletUI is still dead, it looks like we'll have to fight to get it back again.

That lag is not normal. And my tablet charges from around 10% to full in about 2 hours. Maybe you should try a factory reset. If that doesn't help I would return it.
I won't buy a Samsung tablet. I would try a replacement. I own the k1 for a year now and I'm still very satisfied with. And Nvidia updates it. Which Samsung usually doesn't.

Your experience does not sound typical. Perhaps it's a hardware issue, but I agree with @edisso10018 that the first step would be a factory reset.

The Nvidia CPU is pretty good shame it's not the X1, It performs better then some of my phones with QC chips, Do a factory reset and see if the lag is still there, Battery life is poor can agree on that
My k1 is over a year old it is still playing games with no trouble yes a agree with the battery life but mine charges with no problems a have noticed a little slow down but am not running bit os updated kernel yet but a still rate 10/10 best tablet a ever owned.
Tablet is laggy, no denying it.

K1 here-- I don't run stock (DU 6.0.1), but I used BitOK for a while and realized its not very good. Switched back to stock kernel (from my ROM) and its more stable. You don't lose out on much anyway-- BitOK doesn't have features I want like voltage control. Examples of instability caued by BitOK: GPU was stuck at ~350mhz, would not ramp down fully to 72mhz. Also stock is smoother. You can still use adiutor to monitor and control a few things.
One more thing: be very careful when flashing blobs and other stuff in fastboot that it is for the K1 version and not OG shield! A lot of devs posting these things arent explicit as to which version. DTBs and Blobs are specific to the shield type-- one might work for the wrong tablet version, or it might brick it, or it might be unstable.
As for the Batery life I can tell you it does suck even on the best case scenario. There is no way around this as it is small and the large screen, as nice as it is, sucks a lot of juice. Lowering brightness helps somewhat but still I'll be lucky to get a couple hours of SOT out of it.
For the price its a great tablet, with a few small compromises, such as bat life, but thats the price you pay for great screen and sound at a cheap price. We are lucky to have at least a few devs still doing work with this device, and luckier still that nvidia is STILL supporting it with updates, even if slowly. They recently announced 7.1.1 will be forthcoming.
Mine was laggy too, I flashed stock firmware with my PC and now it's working perfectly.
Bought mine as a refurb and it works fine. I think you either have bad hardware, or a bad install. Try flashing stock and see if it improves.
Tbh my only complaint is with battery life, I switched to BitO to see if it got any better, the tablet is smoother with this kernel than stock but the battery is the same, I wish we had UV'ing, my favorite setting on any kernel, back on my N10 my battery could easily be improved 10-15% and the heat was reduced drastically, good binned ones could shave up to 200mV on some steps. K wish this was implemented

I just bought a K1 (discount price 169€) and I don't have this problem at all. Even if I use only 1 core (settings performance) for basic app it's smooth smooth smooth.
And the battery life is huge !!
For gaming tho I switch back ofc the performance setting.

I bought a K1 three weeks ago to use as a display for my phantom 4 quadcopter. I am very impressed with its performance. I'm not experiencing any lag other than at startup. Once it's up and startup is finalized I dont have any problems. The battery life isn't great, I'll agree there but hopefully it gets better with Nougat.

I bought a K1 last week to replace my aging Nexus 7, did a factory reset and still wasn't satisfied with it being laggy. Did my share of Google searching and finally stumbled upon a quick fix to try : disable Daydream. Since changing this one setting it has been very smooth since, no issue for lag or touch registrations.
Give it a try, might not help your charging but I did notice a much reduced battery drain while sleeping also.
My only other changes were to root, change the DPI to 240 and use the Google Now Launcher which compliments the display nicely.
I wasn't happy with it as well until I flashed cyanogenmod 13 and a custom kernel with overclock. Now it's a beast, battery is great, signal as well. And I also now have the option to OC the processor to 2.5 GHz before I play some more demanding games and then set it back to 2.2 or even lower if I won't need all the juice. Seriously, the stock marshmallow ROM sucks, I have only heard bad stuff about it. Also, the nougat update is about to come out so I'd give android N a chance, too.
About the battery life -- see which apps are using the most juice under settings/battery/. Some of them may be using more CPU cores, and have a higher frame rate than is needed. Go to settings/App optimisation/ and crank the numbers down. Next go to settings/Accounts and see the long list of things that want to autosync with you. Turn the autosync off for those you aren't using. Turning off wifi except when I am using it has made a significant difference for me as well.

Putting the CPU at 80 or 90% CPU speed in the performance settings will get you that reduced power consumption. You might not even notice the speed difference. These speed tiers also run at lower voltage.
Using the GPU frame rate limiter will dramatically extend gaming time too. I find 30 fps acceptable most of the time.
Of course it would be nice to run the thing unrestricted, but it's just not practical when you also want battery life. Look at what Nintendo is doing with the clock speeds of the X1 in the Switch.
