Amazing? No sign of U.S. S3 Variants - Galaxy S III General

Isn't it amazing that almost 6 days before the release of the Galaxy s 3 in the U.S. that there's been no leakage of benchmarks, T mobile software on the S3 or anything pertaining to comparison between the 2gigs and S4 vs the Exynos edition?
It's just different because we usually have something besides specs when there's less than a week to go for a release.
I don't want to waste my time purchasing the phone and having to send it back because it's not as smooth as the UK varient. I truly wanted exynos but currently banking on the 2 gigs for a wash. Samsung and T -mo won't be getting my $650 if not

They haven't tested this particular SoC, but there are plenty of tests and benchmarks with the US version of the HTC One X, and that thing runs great. So you are safe to assume the Galaxy S III will run smooth, especially since it has 2GB of ram instead of 1GB on the One X.
Don't worry, the phone is gonna feel buttery smooth.

cool.. I've noticed the HTC One x web browsing and smoothness throughout sense 4/ICS wasn't all that smooth.. I also had the HTC one s from T mobile and it wasn't as fast a benchmarks indicated with real life use.. Now maybe that's just because of a buggy sense 4.0 or the fact that the S4 is just a number puncher and not a buttery smooth processor like the Exynos definitely is.
Thanks for your reply

first time i saw a 6000 score.. that's probably rooted with processor tweaks

thanks for the link for the S4 chip!
there have been lots of debate regarding the S4 vs Exynos. imo, the S4 is a better CPU whereas the Exynos has the better GPU.
i've said this time and time again, if you upload/download a lot of files (esp big ones), the S4 is the one for you. if you want to play a lot of high end games on your phone, the Exynos is for you, though not many games take advantage of that right now.
on the CPU front, no applications make use of quad-core. a lot of apps have just now started making use of quad-cores.

Thanks... However, i feel that the Enynos in the Galaxy s 2 was so smooth that Android should make it mandatory for all android handsets lol... GPU must have to do with the browser performance as well because of the graphics in pinch to zoom.. I have yet to see a browser, even with the s4 (HTC series phones) zoom in and out of flash heavy websites with buttery smooth performance like the exynos ALWAYS DOES. That's what I'm looking for. Hopefully this verision will be as buttery as the Exynos.. people wonder why it's so popular.. it's just that gooood!

I just want to know what soundchip the U.S variant has.

[Fascinate Users] Galaxy S3 General Discussion

Now that the galaxy s3 has been announced, and dropping this month on 5 us carriers. they tell us it has been downgraded to a dual core processor in the us. what devs plan on upgrading to this phone still?

Is ours getting the downgraded processor or is this still just a rumor? If so, that sucks ass. I plan on getting it though.

This has been announced. We will get a dual core 1.5ghz.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Yes we will be getting dual cores. But the qualcomm S4 is like ridiculously fast. And compared to the quad phones it really shows no substantial difference besides RAW power. Graphics, are identical, their was a review on the verge that shows they are very similar in the One S and One X.
Pre orders start June 6 for Verizon.

Okay. ****. The hype bug finally bit me.
Damnit.
Do I NEED a phone? Probably not. Is this upgrade I've been holding on to for 5 months now burning a hole in my pocket? OH YEAH.
The S4 is damn good and better on battery than the Exynos in all likelihood. The 2GB of RAM is a bigger upgrade than 2 more cores would be IMO.

If you want to abstract by one more level: Krait will be faster regardless of application, regardless of usage model. You're looking at a generational gap in architecture here, not simply a clock bump.

Occasionally we'll see performance numbers that just make us laugh at their absurdity. Krait's Linpack performance is no exception. The performance advantage here is insane. The MSM8960 is able to deliver more than twice the performance of any currently shipping SoC. The gains are likely due in no small part to improvements in Krait's cache/memory controller. Krait can also issue multi-issue FP instructions, A9 class architectures can apparenty only dual-issue integer instructions.

agreed, don't let the "moar corez is bettar" bug bite you.......anyone remember Pentium 4 cpu's clock for clock when AMD released their couterparts? I do. Architecture is where it's at. How much gets done per clock matters far more than how many "ticks" you can go through.
Hmm, for every day tasks (multitasking between apps, browsing web, checking XDA, and the occasional angry birds) I don't see why the dual core with a whopping 2 gigs of ram (bump from the 1 gig the int. phones have) is any thing to complain about. Not like I'm doing complex and processor taxing things on the phone. I'm hoping for great things from this phone and am planning on picking one up day one. Quad core / dual core .... It's just a phone. I'll go to my desktop if I really need to... Lol

Finally us cellular gets in the game! Good to see, I will definitely be getting this phone seeing that I use it as a media player and it has the wolfson chip that supercurio can develop on. S2 disappoints me. Processor won't matter so much to me as I'm not depending on it to do any of my heavy lifting like my pc, so long as its dual core I'll be happy. More ram is definitely a plus. Needless to say I will be seeing many of you in those forums soon enough, doubt it will be launch day though.

The fact that both quadrant and antutu benchmark are better shows to me that both dual core performance (quadrant) and quadcore performance (antutu) on international version is better. But both these scores are great and users will hardly notice any difference. Only geeks will feel this.

Can we really assume that it's bloat? I only have 2 theories.
1. They just set the MinFree to be the same as the International version.
or
2. They tweaked this Touchwiz to be able to run smoothly on the S4 by caching all its features in the RAM to everything can load up quickly and as smoothly as the international version.
Those are the only things I can think of.

S4 Specs leak?

An antuntu benchmark for the S4 has leaked it's specs.
Network: GSM/WCDMA/LTE
CPU: Exynos 5410 1.8Ghz
CPU Cores: 4 + 4!!
GPU Model: PowerVR SGX 544 MP
System: OS 4.2
Display:
Screen size: 4.99
Resolution: 1920X1080
Camera:
Front cam: 2.1 mp
Rear: 13 mp
RAM: 2 gb.
Antutu populates that information by hand for the major devices, it cannot be retrieved from the system information.
Without confirmation it means nothing.
Speculation, in the case of them manually putting it on their servers, if it's automatic it's a fake benchmark.

This was speculation by a major analyst. It isn't fact, it's just an educated guess at this point.
It could be official.
AFAIK, I don't believe benchmark scores in antuntu.
If you put trust into those scores, you could say that dancing around in your garden naked for 5 minutes increases your device's performance.
Well but the specs do look somewhat similiar to what we heard.
Wasn't the rumour of 13 mp, 2gb ram and 8 cores going around?
And here's proof:
I saw an article up on DroidViews as well about this. He was decent enough to upload a photo.
Whats this obsession with posting S4 things in a s3 forum?

No idea.
I've seen people posting s4 things here,
When s3 was releasing the s2 forums were filled with s3 leaks etc.
When s2 was releasing the s forums were filled with s2 leaks.
Looks like a chain cycle.

Funny
So to summarise:
HTC One Ice Storm: 11309
S4 Storm: 9552
HTC One Ice Storm: 6190
S4 Storm Extreme: 6127
A small victory, but seems to be a lot of leeway between these results, just ran this on my own One and got 10029 and 6626 results respectively, so alot lower then alot higher.
whatever it is this means the 554MP3 is not running at 533mhz due to power / thermals
please also means its not what is hyped to be and Adreno 320 is not to be taken lightly
Would love to see the test run again once the One is updated to 4.2.2 - these results have nowhere to go but up.

Agreed, I'm sure it will get a nice performance bump from that.
I´m so looking forward to the 4.2.2 update. Not cause of the Android Version, but the drivers. Its fast at the moment, but it should be even faster with them.

I expect the benchmarks to improve with 4.2 by a decent amount, maybe we'll see around 41 fps Egypt offscreen.
As usual, 3DMarks of any kind cannot be a standard test of anything of value.
I've got these scores from my Nexus 4 running stock 4.2.2. (Left is default and right is extreme)
Benchmarks like this are totally pointless for measuring performance. They might be fun, but they are so variable (even on the same device) that they are useless. They also have biases towards certain GPUs that do no reflect real world gaming.
All this test proves is that with current software 3Dmark for android runs better on the Adreno in the One than on the PowerVR in the S4, nothing else whatsoever. Since its not a game, who cares?
3DMark is really wierd. I ran it yestarday several times and the score varied from 9900 to 10800. The highest score I got was just after the restart of the device. 10800 in IceStorm and 6690 in Extreme. Still... it looks like the "The One" is on par with SIV when it comes to performance. Now its up HTC to make the software better. I mean its still far better than Samsung when it comes to bug count and stability but the camera, Zoe, Blinkfeed functionality should be extended. Come on HTC. You can do it...

Were exactly did you get an S4 octa and an HTC one to perform these test. These are the two rarest phones on the planet especially the S4 octa. Won't consider this final since the S4 octa is still in production. <<<<<you can Google that

we see both of devices arent ready to give noteworthy full hd game performance with these gpu..i think we will have to wait better gpu.

RCFTW.
A reviewer from a Russian reviewer site who is also a member of our forums here. You shouldn't consider it final, the HTC One's performance will increase, once it's running 4.2.

Ummm.... Not a surprise at all. A lot of people have the ONE....just go look at the Development section.
As for the S4 Exynos Octa....wouldn't shock me at all that someone has it in their hands.

It scores higher because the screen resolution is lower and 3DMark renders onscreen.
It's still an awesome phone though.

GT-i9505 vs GT-i9305

Worth upgrading??
I think this SGS4 just an evolution and not a revolution. I know that the level of the camera we have great evolution ... and there are more 2s sensors ... but it worth the astronomical value of 799 €? ... otherwise we are talking about two phones with powerful Quad-cores with 2GB ram, communications with LTE and a design virtually identical ...
And then Portugal (as other European countries) will not have the Exynos version...very sad ...

I'm in portugal, too
I agree, mostly
I'm coming from an i9300, though
can't wait to buy the phone, but I'm getting it carrier locked to TMN which will be selling for 649€
I don't think it's worth upgrading tbh, the 9305 is good enough for now
maybe when the Note III comes out, yes

The S4 is definitely not a revolution. So I'm not sure an upgrade from the S4 is really worth it, unless you can easily afford the new one. There are many aspects improved on the S4, but no most-have in my opinion.

S3 uses a very dated GPU. Samsung had been using the Mali-400 since the S2 and it's horrible. I'm glad they stopped using it now. Power VR or Adreno 320 are much better. So yes. It's a very good upgrade.

The 5 reasons why I upgrade to the GT-I9505 are:
1. From 720p to 1080p!
2. From 4,7" to 5,0" inch!
3. From 8MP to 13MP!
4. Way better GPU!
5. Longer support from Samsung!

Ok, maybe i will by the S4 but only the GT-i9500 version with Exynos octa processor...now, in Portugal, Samsung will just debut the GT-i9505...I will be waiting for the exynos version
Why ask others? This is pretty simple...
1. It will have a much better screen quality.
2. It will be faster.
3. It will have a better camera.
4. It will have better battery life.
5. It will get updates faster. (plus all the new features it comes with)
Now, are you willing to spend the extra money to get those? That is the question.
Edit: Exynos, if community roms are important to you you probably want to stick to Qualcomm since it will have way better support.

2. It will be faster. <- yes, this one is true
3. It will have a better camera. <- So..... 4 =/ 4 ? Dude, it's the same sensor
4. It will have better battery life. <- It's supposed to be 25% more efficient, true
5. It will get updates faster. (plus all the new features it comes with) <- Really ?

Snapdragon.
1- Because it's open sourced and well documented.
2- Because most devs are from the US, which is only getting i9505 (for now).
