[Fascinate Users] Galaxy S3 General Discussion - Galaxy S III General (US Carriers)

Now that the galaxy s3 has been announced, and dropping this month on 5 us carriers. they tell us it has been downgraded to a dual core processor in the us. what devs plan on upgrading to this phone still?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium

Is ours getting the downgraded processor or is this still just a rumor? If so, that sucks ass. I plan on getting it though.

This has been announced. We will get a dual core 1.5ghz.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium

Yes we will be getting dual cores. But the qualcomm S4 is like ridiculously fast. And compared to the quad phones it really shows no substantial difference besides RAW power. Graphics, are identical, their was a review on the verge that shows they are very similar in the One S and One X.

Pre orders start June 6 for Verizon.

Okay. ****. The hype bug finally bit me.
Damnit.
Do I NEED a phone? Probably not. Is this upgrade I've been holding on to for 5 months now burning a hole in my pocket? OH YEAH.
The S4 is damn good and better on battery than the Exynos in all likelihood. The 2GB of RAM is a bigger upgrade than 2 more cores would be IMO.

It is nice, but the exynos is very efficient because of the small die

Is that really that much faster than the 1.2 dual core in the Nexus? I really was saving my update for the S3 but if the Nexus drops to a good price may go that route.

If you want to abstract by one more level: Krait will be faster regardless of application, regardless of usage model. You're looking at a generational gap in architecture here, not simply a clock bump.

Occasionally we'll see performance numbers that just make us laugh at their absurdity. Krait's Linpack performance is no exception. The performance advantage here is insane. The MSM8960 is able to deliver more than twice the performance of any currently shipping SoC. The gains are likely due in no small part to improvements in Krait's cache/memory controller. Krait can also issue multi-issue FP instructions, A9 class architectures can apparenty only dual-issue integer instructions.

agreed, don't let the "moar corez is bettar" bug bite you.......anyone remember Pentium 4 cpu's clock for clock when AMD released their couterparts? I do. Architecture is where it's at. How much gets done per clock matters far more than how many "ticks" you can go through.

Hmm, for every day tasks (multitasking between apps, browsing web, checking XDA, and the occasional angry birds) I don't see why the dual core with a whopping 2 gigs of ram (bump from the 1 gig the int. phones have) is any thing to complain about. Not like I'm doing complex and processor taxing things on the phone. I'm hoping for great things from this phone and am planning on picking one up day one. Quad core / dual core .... It's just a phone. I'll go to my desktop if I really need to... Lol

Finally us cellular gets in the game! Good to see, I will definitely be getting this phone seeing that I use it as a media player and it has the wolfson chip that supercurio can develop on. S2 disappoints me. Processor won't matter so much to me as I'm not depending on it to do any of my heavy lifting like my pc, so long as its dual core I'll be happy. More ram is definitely a plus. Needless to say I will be seeing many of you in those forums soon enough, doubt it will be launch day though.

A direct GNex vs S3 comparision. This is using the quad core but should be at least close.

I understand that, but you can just stick your microSD that you used on Fascinate which costs nothing... I don't know I just hope the less storage space doesn't hinder any development path.

Might make me jump ship when this is released!
Ya, I'd sell this phone for $200 and possibly my Evo for a phone with those specs. Plus you wouldn't have to put up with the drama here, so consider me SOLD.
I am waiting until Sprint decides on its future 4G plans.
Those specs are sexy but ill wait a few before i get it
to see whats going on with the Epic and also the pros/cons of it from other xda users experiences
This paired with project leapfrog makes Sprint #1 by far. Verizon no longer has anything on them. EVO 3D will win phone of the year, even of the iPhone 5 when it comes out in August.
I'm excited i wanna see what the new qHD displays look like
HOLY ****! 3D Pictures? That's awesome!
I'm already jealous lol
Hmmm... sounds kinda cool, but I'm honestly pretty happy with my Epic. Don't get me wrong. It sounds like a sweet device, but it's just not nice enough for me to justify switching.

Very true!
I will consider an upgrade (Premier Gold) provided a new phone meets my prerequisites of:
- physical keyboard
- 4" screen or bigger
- better camera (most important factor)
Somehow I missed that it will be dual core, not just 1.2 Ghz. I'm a bit more interested now lol. Although, that display would have to be pretty awesome... Unlike the previous Evo variations. Yuck!

You guys realise that our epic should be just as good over clock it to 1.3ghz and the powerVR gpu in our epics I believe are still better that the snapdragon ones. Plus that higher resolution on the qHD displays don't get as good framerates cause it taxes the cpu and **** harder didn't you see the thread that compared the atrix and other phones. I will keep my epic for now. I like my keyboard even tough it skips letters haha.

HTC Pyramid is the same exact phone (Yea, I know. Shocking news that HTC makes 45 exact same phones and just names them differently). Same processor, same resolution, with SLIGHTLY lower ram. LOL. GPU is utterly destroyed by the Galaxy S. Snapdragons are so crappy.
3D is just a gimmick. You have to have something that can display the images, and you have to wear those glasses. Its cool in theatre on the big screen, but on that little phone me thinks not.
I'll be keeping my Epic for quite awhile, planning on skipping the next gen just because I don't see it being much of a leap. When something comes out that my phone can't do then maybe I'll worry about it at that point.

The picture above makes it quite obvious with the “Galaxy S II” logo printed on the back. While this is expected to be a rather minor upgrade, with no major changes, a few improvements are expected, such as a seemingly larger 4.5-inch display, as opposed to the current Galaxy S II’s 4.3-inch one, and support for T-Mobile’s faster HSPA+ 42Mbps connection.
Much like the original Galaxy S II, this slightly revised model is expected to include the hardware and features that made the previous one successful, namely its dual-core 1.2 GHz SoC processor, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel camera and the ability to output fully uncompressed 1080p high-definition video through its built-in HDMI port. There are no apparent changes software-wise: much like the original release, the revised Galaxy S II is expected to include the latest version of Android, 2.3 Gingerbread, along with Samsung’s custom TouchWiz interface, which is aimed at streamlining Android’s standard user experience. The phone’s back now sports a brushed metal look as well, contrasting with previous Galaxy S II models.
Although the handset is not yet available through a carrier in the US, its release is projected to take place sometime this month. In addition to T-Mobile, this variant of the Galaxy S II is expected to also be available North of the border through the Canadian carrier Telus.

Atrix Top specs

So its funny by now we all know a new device with the same specs as our last device last month drops every 4 months or so.I was doing some thinking and I love this device its specs beat lots of other dualcore phones and match others the Atrix really is a future proof device from the 16gigs On board to the DDR2 1gig ram and Tegra2 Qhd screen I mean sure we have no NFC chip but that chip won't stop it from being fast or future proof.Look at the Evo3D vs Atrix we have better ram and Way more Rom 16gigs vs 4 same with sensation and G2X the Photon is the same device but with 4.3 and Better data speeds Umm what else nothing else beats Atrix I mean yes the Gs2 is nice and the Htc Holiday but man 4.5 idk and we don't know the full specs and they will still only run 1gig ram and not DDR2 I bet so in All I love this baby I have had it from day one but I just returned to it 4 days ago I was on the G2X and Sensation witch I still have. ATRIX... starwars... 1.5ghz..... link me!
Making a smartphone with full of newest specs is easy for any OEMs but it is hard to make a STABLE smartphone with no BUGS or glitches. That's where atrix is way above than the S2, Sensation, LG's end others. I always said that Sensation, S2 wouldn't last more than 6 months without something broken. I wasn't wrong, just check their forums, lol. Atrix was advertised as the " Worlds most powerful smartphone " and that still counts.
just my 2 cents.
The only thing holding the Atrix back is it's software. The stock ROM is kinda poor when compare to others and we don't have a completely stable AOSP ROM base yet. I know the custom ROM do a great job of making this phone FLY, but once we have a clean build and some more ROMs not hindered by Blur, this will be a tough phone to beat for some time. Case in point, look at quadrant numbers (I know they mean little) on Atrix's with clock speeds of 1.2 and 1.3 ghz...they are through the roof, and I believe and above S2's of the spec. Why Moto doesn't doesn't write better ROM's is a mystery to me.

This would be a beefed up note. Especially with an lte exynos.

I'm really hoping sprint gets the quad core exynos and not some watered down dual core like the EvoLte

the LTE part is great even though we probably wont have a fully rolled out LTE network till 2014 but the Quad core would definitely help with the over all smoothness of the OS and insure an upgrade to the Jelly Bean or what ever the next OS will be.
I want the note, but if not, Im 50/50 between the E1 and the SG3. Probably will have to see them both in person to make a decision. Baby mama is switching to sprint and wants my ET4G, time for an upgrade for Phatmanxxl!
Doesn't the battery seem a bit too small? I'm sure they have a larger one. Either way, can't wait until we find out all the exact details, exciting lol.
Samsung Galaxy S II ™, Epic 4G Touch ™ via. Tapatalk 2
Samsung Galaxy SIII = Tech boner!
Which means by the time we get it on sprint gs4 will roll around.
I guess the reason we get phones after the other carriers is $$$ related.
Sprint probably pays less per unit after the phone has been out for a bit.

What are you talking about Sprint was the first to come out with a GSII and then T-mobile and AT&T come out with there's a week or 2 later at the time only the International edition was available
All the hyped units like the nexus or the note come later. Sprints cash is going toward network vision first. Phone models second. Verixon & ATT have cash to throw around sprint doesn't.
I'll venture as far to say the new nexus will be announced shortly after we get sgs3.

Yea but Sprint still hasn't rolled out LTE the main reason we don't have the Nexus and the Note was first released internationally then AT&T picked it up from Samsung and were still not sure if Sprint is getting the Note and if so im sure it will get LTE maybe that's why they are taking their time
the nexus devices coincide with the release of a new version of android. we won't see another nexus for at least another 6-12 months. i mean phones are JUST getting ICS.
Still gonna take them 6 months after the gsm version to get this on sprint.
Maybe Christmas 2012?
so leave sprint! i'm considering getting the intl sgs3, hopping on at&t and calling it a day. i'd really like some decent 3G. i don't make many calls so i'm not that worried about calls dropping or worse quality.

Amazing? No sign of U.S. S3 Variants

Isn't it amazing that almost 6 days before the release of the Galaxy s 3 in the U.S. that there's been no leakage of benchmarks, T mobile software on the S3 or anything pertaining to comparison between the 2gigs and S4 vs the Exynos edition?
It's just different because we usually have something besides specs when there's less than a week to go for a release.
I don't want to waste my time purchasing the phone and having to send it back because it's not as smooth as the UK varient. I truly wanted exynos but currently banking on the 2 gigs for a wash. Samsung and T -mo won't be getting my $650 if not

They haven't tested this particular SoC, but there are plenty of tests and benchmarks with the US version of the HTC One X, and that thing runs great. So you are safe to assume the Galaxy S III will run smooth, especially since it has 2GB of ram instead of 1GB on the One X.
Don't worry, the phone is gonna feel buttery smooth.

cool.. I've noticed the HTC One x web browsing and smoothness throughout sense 4/ICS wasn't all that smooth.. I also had the HTC one s from T mobile and it wasn't as fast a benchmarks indicated with real life use.. Now maybe that's just because of a buggy sense 4.0 or the fact that the S4 is just a number puncher and not a buttery smooth processor like the Exynos definitely is.
Thanks for your reply

Thanks for sharing it. Strange that the international gs3 with lower single threaded values outperforms it in quadrant.

first time i saw a 6000 score.. that's probably rooted with processor tweaks
thanks for the link for the S4 chip!
there have been lots of debate regarding the S4 vs Exynos. imo, the S4 is a better CPU whereas the Exynos has the better GPU.
i've said this time and time again, if you upload/download a lot of files (esp big ones), the S4 is the one for you. if you want to play a lot of high end games on your phone, the Exynos is for you, though not many games take advantage of that right now.
on the CPU front, no applications make use of quad-core. a lot of apps have just now started making use of quad-cores.

I agree with the OP - very freaking odd that none have showed up on eBay, stores know nothing about it, no reviews, nothing.

Thanks... However, i feel that the Enynos in the Galaxy s 2 was so smooth that Android should make it mandatory for all android handsets lol... GPU must have to do with the browser performance as well because of the graphics in pinch to zoom.. I have yet to see a browser, even with the s4 (HTC series phones) zoom in and out of flash heavy websites with buttery smooth performance like the exynos ALWAYS DOES. That's what I'm looking for. Hopefully this verision will be as buttery as the Exynos.. people wonder why it's so popular.. it's just that gooood!
I just want to know what soundchip the U.S variant has.
First video I've seen with a US variant:

Lol, hey at least she showed us a US variant on video. No one else has.
While I agree the video wasn't great, it wasn't a review. Kudos to Radio Shack though for being the only ones to actually post ANYTHING about the phone beyond a release date.
