Samsung Galaxy S III I747 Release 6/18 - Galaxy S III General

Release set for next week
Samsung Galaxy S III I747 Full stats
DUAL CORE!!
Pre-order now available at BB

By them swapping out the quad for the dual, does that mean better battery life?

I would think so, the S4 is a beast and is very energy efficient.

Why so upset with dual core? The S4 is very fast. Performance wise, I bet they are neck in neck. The only downside I can think of is the GPU is better in the quad core. I will gladly take the S4 with the extra 1gb of ram.

This thread was started a while ago. It was moved here by the mod. It doesn't belong here, as I explained to him, because this is the I747 model.
I have gotten him to look into opening a thread for the AT&T SGS III and said he would get the approval.

i would love to see a source for where GSMarena got the date.

June 13 is not a while ago. The mod should have just closed it since we already have tons of threads like this one and you should have noticed that.

Closed, we have a AT&T SGS3 thread right here

poor development for note 2?

Currently we only have one kernel port from S3 and 3 decent roms after one month of the release.
Do you know if anyother developer like siyah or franco are going to make kernels for our device? It is a shame to don't have it

Gokhan wont develop kernels for note 2, he develops only for phones which he has. Franco has made a lot of kernels for different phones and he doesnt have time. He started development for note 1 but later it was abandoned, with s3 updates was pretty slow comparing with siyah and andreilux kernels. For me stock kernel rooted+stock firmware the best. Amazing performance+battery life
The reason for the "poor" development for the Note 2 is:
It's great, Never before i had an Android-Phone better than this, Very good work by Samsung-Engineers.
It's super fast, smooth, stable and batterylife is extraordinary good.
So, what to improve by the developers?
Customizing with Themes is OK in my eyes. The performance of the Note 2 is outstanding even with Stock-Firmware. No need for Custom Kernel / Rom.
regards
Exactly. There is nothing to develop in an already developed thing.

There is no documentation or source codes for Exynos devices. Not forgetting that it's a young device. There's a petition for Samsung to release the information, but being proprietary SoC's they don't have to release anything.
A quick google would answer your questions.

Bingo.
I'm ok to say the note 2 is already perfect but this device need a dpi per app in the samsung firmware.
Why you don't develop then?

I'm not sure why you are here at all. You do know that XDA is a DEVELOPMENT forum right? If you're not interested in modifying and development, then why are you here?
I was a bit gutted with so few roms out. I pick up my phone in the morning, was gonna tweak and flash tomorrow night.
But after a little though, do I need to? I've not even got it yet. I just wana flash and tweak out of habit. And it's only been out weeks.
I love the resurection rom on my s2, I like the UI. But I was runiing Wanam lite before that and it was good rom, I liked the layout. I'll give it a few weeks, see how it feels, but I'm quite happy that a developer (Wanam) I've used before is up and running on the note 2. It won't have as many developers as the s2 or s3, but I expect more will come.
Xda hasn't let me down yet, alomst six years in,
I have faith that XDA will help me tweak and flash when I need new features.
Thanks to all the devs, on all the phones, especially the note 2 though

I pretty much agree....as much as I've loved modding over the years, this device leaves me with the least amount of motivation to tweak it whatsoever. No need for battery saving mods. If your a themefreak well then yeah, I'm not.
CM to me for this device dumbs it down (this from a longtime CM'er)...doesn't bring anything speed wise, and the Samsung Note features are just too cool to forego...(for me)atures
Kernel options are a mute point tho I do enjoy overclocking at times.
Mod's like multitasking unlimited apps are great (for me).
Developing a per app adjustable dpi would be great actually, but not going aosp to do it.
Lotta other minor stuff I could list but, hey....I never thought I'd say it but hats off to Samsung for releasing the first device I've ever been .satisfied with out of the box .
I had Galaxy Note before and many renowned developers there are getting Note 2 before the end of this year and probably we will see boom in developement when those developers get Note2.... among those is is g.lewarne the creator of Hydracore kernels which made Note 1 fly like anything.

I really don't reply to 'these' meaningless comments but still I'm doing as I've nothing better to do atm.
Why I am here? Well that ain't your business. So get over with it.
I'm saying every Android device is crap? I'll donate you 10000$ if you can find that in my post.
Still I'm saying, yes, not every device is S2, S3, OX or Note 2, and just because God gifted me with plenty of money doesn't mean everyone could purchase these high end toys. There are PLENTY mid and low range Droid exists, and your so called 'development' theory applied to 'those' devices, NOT by any means to the top guns like I mentioned above.
Do you realize Note 2 just got released right? Yes, I do. And frankly, I'm so happy that there isn't much needless stuffs going on in the so called 'development' section, more 'development' means more freaks and kids and it's a damn disgrace for any forum.
In the end, I paid 700 $ to Samsung and they gave me a beautiful device ( Yes, some glitches are there of course, but where doesn't? ) and that's all I care about. I don't want a half baked overhyped crap on my lovely phone, and I like Apple products more than a hormone crazed flashoholic. (No disrespect meant to Apple). Still, some great persons are here, like Chainfire, Hardcore, Supercurio etc, who are attracting persons like me to surf this forum now and then, but the number is few, very few.
One more thing, don't take this forum as your personal property, you are just another user like me with more thanks metre and a pesky tag, things mean the least to me.

[Q] Reason For Different Processors

Dear XDA,
What is the actual reason for SGS IV (and many other phones) having different processors in the US version vs international versions? I'm kind of ashamed to have to ask this but I have never actually seen the reason written down anywhere.
It seems it would be very expensive to build/support different hardware versions in the "same" phone. I know there are different radio technologies but that doesn't seem like it would require a change in processor. Please let me know what you know.

8 cores + LTE = battery life of about 2 hours on stand by (not official! But you get the point).
Snapdragon is much better by the way, especially in terms of development.

Ting,
Though the Octa core marketing didnt catch my attention, i would much prefer the international model processor due to the PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU compare to a last year Adreno 320 GPU.
What confuse me is that Samsung had shipped their Galaxy Note 2 variants with Exynos processor in the US but why cant the Galaxy S 4 ?

Last time with the s3 situation they were having problems getting lte Woking on an Exynos processor they solved in the note 2 this time the problem could have sprung up again as this isn't a traditional processor or it could be supply issues

Since the 800 goes into production in late may do you think Samsung will update the galaxy s4 or just put that into the note 3 and release this summer?
Knowing that the 800 is out there and coming soon I just can't bring myself to get a 600 even though

Yup. Exactly.
I would guess that Samsung will go with their own chip set (Exynos) in future phones as soon as they get production figured out. However, the next Sony Android smartphone is supposed to have the Snapdragon 800 for the fall.
I've seen stuff for Note 3 calling for a 2ghz Octa. Only rumors at this point though.

[Q] Confused - I9500 or I9505

Been reading a lot about their differences and still can't get a clue as which one to buy. Its been more than a month since S4 is released and generally speaking, I am looking to buy S4 not specifically to use 4G, but for general use, mostly apps, a few games (not a hardcore mobile gamer) and also interesting mods.
The other day I came across a game for android specially mentioning it will work only in Adreno GPU. This quite surprised and confused me as to if in future, apps and games will be customised based on CPU/GPU?
Provided the issues that have been reported, mainly the overheating and battery drain, is it wise to wait for a month or two so that Samsung release a second production batch of S4 with these issues fixed? Or there won't any hardware fixes for S4 anymore?
So which model has a better future? (leaving the 4G part).
Hope I get a reply as I am sure the highly knowledgeable and vast users of this forum can help ease my confusion.

Android Kitkat update is not available for my note 10.1 2014 ed.

I am checking my new note 2014 edition for software update (kitkat 4.4) but it says there is no new updates available, while it currently runs jelly bean 4.3.
I got the Kitkat update already in my note 3, I live in Egypt
Any advice please?
Just make like me! Update manually for yourself.
Go there for example: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Download your firmware and follow the instructions to flash it.
I have my Note 10.1 2014 with official 4.4.2 with this method.

Not really, my stock p605 4.4.2's battery life is running the same or even better than stock 4.3. Also my Note2 LTE running OmniROM 4.4.4 also has excellent battery life, so your statement about kitkat will kill battery life is not true.

Damn you Samsung - been waiting to get update on my UK P600 long enough! Despite all its nice features its going on Ebay as soon as the next larger screened Nexus tablet is out. I thought the slow updates wouldn't bother me when I ponied-up for the premium price and that the multi window and digitizer would compensate for it but instead I prefer to get shiny new os updates (official ones) more ?

I agree with cmit37 - what is Samsung up to? Been seeing messages that it is coming any day since begin of the year - now late July and still no KitKat
Considering 4.3 works fine with same performance and sd card writes work, seems no KitKat update is a good thing. I'm staying on 4.3
