QWERTY keyboard phones are unfortunately out of style nowadays. Moto Droid/Milestone is pretty much the only keyboard phone series with modern specs available at least over here. Samsung Captivate Glide seems intriguing with its dual core CPU and AMOLED display but it's US only.
If you are really looking for Sense, it's unfortunate that there are no rumors or leaks or anything about a HTC QWERTY flagship.

So says you. Although declining, Blackberries still sell and I refuse to buy anything that does not have a physical QWERTY keyboard.

That's not true. There clearly are people out there eagerly waiting for new QWERTY-phones, otherwise e.g. Sony Ericsson wouldn't sell Xperia pro and Mini pro etc. Nokia has released a few phones with QWERTY keyboard and as you said Motorola has Droids too.
Does anyone know how many Visions has been sold? HTC has always made qwerty-phones, I can't see any reason why they should stop now.
A QWERTY Nexus would be nice - death to Sense. When I owned a Desire Z rooting and going to an AOSP Gingerbread DOUBLED my battery life.

I would like to see more internal memory, better speakers, a better screen and I would like to see them keep the touch sensitive "trackball" button at the bottom of the phone!

I'd love a 1080p screen, gorilla glass, tegra 3, 64gb internal, ICS of course, 4G, an INSANE camera, and no matter the mah a battery to hold it all together for 14+ hours at heavy use.

4.0" 720p screen, Qualcomm krait + adreno 225, pentaband 3g, AOSP ICS, 2GB ram, 16GB ROM + SD card, 5 row QWERTY with directional keys or D-pad, dedicated camera button, metal back cover with release lever.

I want an HTC device, built as solid and of as good quality as this one with updated Rezound like features. Not going to happen though, HTC has successfully grabbed a large portion of the market due to their past quality and has since shifted from quality to quantity.

It's not my personal opinion, just look at the current phone market with slates everywhere. For one, I'd love a powerful QWERTY smartphone to replace my current primary phone GSII, which was by the way the first non-keyboard one.

Aren't most of these are mid-range phones with the exception of Droid?
At least I'm not the only one that feels a bit lonely out here.
Android phones are being pumped out by the dozen, but there are very few QWERTY phones in the mix. I could probably count them all on one hand. Everyone uses either a GSM or CDMA network, so your options are halved right there as well
The only quality phones I have seen maybe worth trading my G2 in for, are the MyTouch 4G Slide and the Samsung Captivate Glide.
But they are still fairly new phones with no CM support yet....

If that's what you want, then the 4G Slide is your only option. It's one of the only phones that still retains hardware keys.
I actually prefer hardware keys as well. But the 4G Slide wasn't out at the time, and I needed a little more horsepower than the 3G Slide I was carrying...
Damnit! this is just wishful thinking lol! I thought there was some news of the G3/Desire Super Z or something Didn't we already have a wish list thread for the next big HTC qwerty model?
I do wonder about when it will happen. In tech terms, our great Desire Z/G2 is extremely antiquated. It does seem to be taking too long but the same happened with the G1. The only decent option I've seen is the MT4GS and that only a US model. Can't really compare a Samsung model because they are junk compared to their flagship models like the Galaxy line.
Even those... I'm hardly interested in those. Lack of led for battery/notifications, trackpad/ball, and plastic-ish build is too much for me to consider. Plus, even though I'm in the US, the MT4GS have literally 5 pages in the development section and has little dev support. All this is starting to get me worried! I don't think I can hold up much longer without a new phone lol! It's been way too long! I LOVE my G2 still but would love a dual core model with MORE RAM and stuff. Sino8r is getting anxious!
Plus, y'all are forgetting the Samsung Captivate Glide is only on AT&T in the US. That means no 3G. Stupid US carriers and billions of different frequencies.
It will be very interesting to see where all the G2 owners go when they need a new device. But as long as the dev scene is still hot here, I see no real reason to leave just yet. IF the 4G Slide starts to pick up once ICS is released, then I may consider it.
It's remarkable, the prices for that phone have already dropped as well to $250. Waiting for it to get around the $200 mark, and then I'll bite.
BTW, anyone looking for the absolute best value QWERTY phone, you can pick up a brand new 3G Slide from eBay for $140. And if you go through auctions, you can get it for less than that. Astonishing, considering G1 phones are going for just $30 less. Obviously all without contract.
(PS, this is not an advertisement or plug. Just a suggestion)
The droid 4 looks promising. Really love the design and the idea of a back lit keyboard. Just hoping that they will have GSM bands with the phone. Fingers crossed!

I was just about to mention that. Remap the Genius button into Search, flash one of undeadk9's "Sense lite" ROMs (posted on RootzWiki), flash unity's overclock kernel, buy an Anker 1900mAh battery or two, and this phone is a BEAST.

First I could not buy a G3 because the rounded corners was something I could not live with. The corners on the Note 2 are NOT rounded as much, and with a Otterbox case will be not as noticeable. The specs on the note 2 are almost perfect. The PPI is a bit lower but what I've been reading not that noticible.
The LG Optimus G has a PPI of 440 and I am sure the screen will appear much finer and crisper. The negative aspects of the Optimus G however could be a bit scarry...bad support, and a bad reputation for not supporting their phones.
The HTC One X+ specs are not very clear at this point, so it is an unknown at this point. The One X was inviting to me style wise, but the phone does NOT multitask, add in a non removeable battery and no card slot, and you have to run the other way. The update to Jelly Bean may fix the multitasking issue, but that remains to be seen.
One the Note's plus side, we also have a removeable battery, and a 64gb SD card slot, a notification LED,and NON PENTILE amoled display, 2 gigs of RAM, quadcore processor, all of which makes it quite inviting. I really cant think of any negative aspects to the phone at this point.
I've been on my Atrix 4G since March of 2011 and it has served me well. I got the Nexus 7 and that has satisfied my tablet craving for sure. The Nexus 7 has a LAG ISSUE which I assume google will address and fix at some point.
Switching between my Atrix with its 4" screen, and the Nexus' 7" screen is interesting. My Atrix actually runs smoother and so upgrading the phone to something a little bigger, faster, and better is very critical to me.
We may not know exactly what the negative aspects of the Note 2 are until it is released. I learned a hard lesson with the Nexus 7. With all the hype and great reviews of it, NOONE mentioned the lag issues and other quirks. If the Note performs and feels as good as I think it will, I may sell the Nexus 7 if the wife doesnt want it .
So really the main point here is I wouldnt preorder ANYTHING anymore until it is relased to the public and vetted because everyone, the companies, the reviewers, the magazines, all want to hype everything to death, even before it is released, AND there has only been ONE main report on the serious NEXUS LAG ISSUE even months after it has been released and well known. What I can say for sure is that I'll never buy an Iphone.
Depends what you are after and use your phone for, but all 3 seems they will be very nice on their own way.
I always get all new phones and normally use 2 phones at a time, one for daily use and one play phone. In the end i always end up using phones i thought I should use last.
Like now after a good while on s3 i did go back to my HoX as I just like that screen and feeling of the phone..
But the device i really want is Lumia 920 tho, but till that comes I for sure gonna give note2 and ip5 and other nice devices a shot..

I was all for the Optimus G initially. The "poor support" thing did concern me but I figured the devs on xda would more than cover that. I could even just about tolerate the non removable battery.. But the lack of an SD card slot just killed it. I bought a 64GB Micro SD not long ago and I wouldn't have any use for it.
The HOX+ looked interesting too but just like the LGOG, the lack of expandable memory is a deal breaker for me.
That left the GNote2.. Big screen, RBG as opposed to pentile, user-replaceable battery (I have an extended battery in my GS2 now), more than ample internals for what I plan to use it for, it's a Sammy flagship (good support), and of course, expandable memory.
Imho, the GNote2 is the way to go, but of course, that's just me

I'm getting the Note II...soon. The LG Optimus G has amazing specs. That processor may be faster than the Exynos 5250 when it comes out. It will undoubtedly the fastest processor until then. We'll just have to wait and see. But after much research, there are so many people saying they'll never buy LG phones again and they regret buying it. 2 years is a long time to live with buyer's remorse. Phone looks great, but the warning screams are too loud to ignore.
The HTC One X+, I thought for a long time that people who used the HTC One X absolutely loved their phones, and I think this is still true. However, I have followed some users who have the privilege of owning both HTC One X and Galaxy S3 who have given equal face time with both phones, and the it is clear the HTC One X has flaws with how their multitasking is implemented that it unnecessarily wares on your patience, time, and battery power. If you don't own both devices, you probably don't know what you are missing.

Yes stay away from LG, i have the G2x and yes while on paper its a great device the lack support from LG and 0 support from nvidia has left the first dual core phone in the states still running gingerbread unless you want to run ICS with no video drivers.

same for me. if the phone gets too big i will be sticking to my OG X or start looking at other directions. i am not a fan of bigger phones and the X is simply the perfect size for me.
Right now I'm having a hard time seeing any reason that I would trade in my OG Moto X.
I do, however, sincerely hope that Moto doesn't get pulled into the screen size war. When I want a tablet, I will bring my tablet. The X is right at the ideal size for me - similar size to my Galaxy Nexus - and I really don't want it getting any bigger. Maybe the phone is staying the same size and the screen size is indicating one of those sweet wrap-around screens that a couple concepts have floated around.
IF they are indeed going for a brute force edition, then hopefully they skip Snapdragon 800 and go straight to 801. The power efficiency gains of 801 alone should be enough of a reason to chose that and not 800 at this point.
I hope this is the Droid sequel. I don't want a 5.2" phone. Snapdragon 800 doesn't mean anything just like the current x which lists a s4 pro. Both the 600 and the s4 pro have krait 300 cores. Maybe it has two krait 400 cores and Qualcomm is making them brand it an 800.

Motorola is NOT under new management from China. The sale to Lenovo won't be complete until July at least, probably August or September. For now they are still owned by Google.

It's registered in the system as a quad-core (per the GFXBench screenshot). I'm not sure how they'll use them yet, but they have to play the numbers game too, unfortunately.
If they had heterogeneous computing like AMD's current desktop APUs, the extra cores could become compute units for the GPU. Though, I don't think the software side is quite ready for that yet.
I'd rather see the S801 because it supports eMMC 5.0. Samsung is currently mass-producing eMMC 5.0 chips, and I'm sure others are too. The one thing that holds a phone back is poor I/O performance, so I'd like to see this.
Also, it'd be nice if they coupled the Adreno 420 to the S800 cores instead. Things are far more GPU driven these days, so that would be a great little semi-custom solution. Otherwise, the 578MHz Adreno 330 will have to do.
Here's what I think:
Droid Ultra/Maxx replacement - 5.2" 1080p
Moto X replacement (X+1) - 4.95" 1080p (or they could surprise us and use a 4.7" 1080p screen)
The camera has been changed to a 12MP unit, and if they're still using OmniVision sensors, then there are 12.6 and 12.8MP options. I think it's the OV12830: http://www.ovt.com/products/sensor.php?id=120
This is probably just a new Droid series for verizon. I think Moto X+1 will remain the same size with hardware upgrade (Someone mentioned this could be just like the One X and One X+ where the processor changed). I'm not sure how they will go about with the S800. Maybe this will be a tri core S800?( The X8 had a contextual core for voice and another for camera thinggy so since S800 already comes with always on voice baked in it will make sense to get rid of the contextual core.)

Same here.. the size was one of the biggest pluses about the moto x ( pun intended). I thought they did all this research to find the perfect size and shape.. that's not something that should change with generations.. (unless our hands are getting bigger haha) But they might want to release another tier to compete with the other manufacturers with big screened phones.
I don't know why moto couldn't release x's in multiple screen sizes... Maybe stagger the releases. Get your panties in a bunch over a little choice? Relax...
If the new Moto X turns out to be a 5.2" inch device (which I really doubt), I will have no choice, but to get the new upcoming iphone 6 with a rumored 4.7" display. Companies do not care about the ergonomics, the massive current phones are ridiculous to hold. And yes, hands don't grow, so the phones shouldn't either.
The current Moto X is perfect. I hope Motorola doesn't enter the stupid display "size" market and stays where its at, otherwise goodbye Android and welcome Apple.

Just a random question but you guys don't think the nvidia tegra 4 or even tegra k1 as an option, I mean, always Qualcomm have the entire market and they are good, but I recently download the awesome camera and the info of Google play says can record slow motion video at 120fps with 1080p having the tegra 4 as the SoC, so that makes me think they are so much powerful than the Qualcomm SoC, the iPhone 5s can't record to that resolution even with they "all new" 64 bits processor...

The Play is somewhat of a mid-range phone with the Snapdragon 615 and "only" 2GB of RAM.
The Style with its Snapdragon 808 and 3GB of RAM is Motorola's high-end phone this year.
So you have the G 2015 on the low end, Play in the middle and Style at the top - seems logical to me..
moto x style is high end phone in one sim card edition and moto x play is high end phone in two sim card editionand it's not in one sim card

Don't forget the play's big 3630maH battery (the style is 3000) - it looks like an very well priced phablet sized workhorse and appears to be just what I need to replace my ageing 7 inch budget tablet and my 2013 Moto G. Looking forward to release and some hands on reports.
I think Motorola missed the mark by not releasing the X Play in US, because it's a perfect phone for the working class in US. But I guess there will be an exclusive Verizon version which I will not buy.
Most of my coworkers either have or want a phone like this. They can't afford a $600-700 phone, they have family and take lots of pictures, they want a big screen to share their photos/videos, they need battery life to last the whole day, they don't need some super high end specs or play games on it. Even though I'm in the minority who prefer small screen sizes, I think these affordable, midrange, large screen, big battery phones are a big hit today,
For me this device interest me because of the battery life and CPU, which isn't a power hog, so it will last even longer. 1080p is good, it will make games less demanding to run and still look good on a 5.5" screen. If I have to import this phone, assuming it's $299, it's going to end up costing $350+ after VAT, I might as well get a OnePlus Two for not much more.
I'm partly happy with the Moto X Style specs, since it's the first Moto X that probably won't have crap battery or crap camera, but Motorola decided to make it unpocketable. I guess it makes sense for them to go with the trend, since it will have a better recognition inside carrier stores.
This is a bit of a rant, but I personally am weary of buying a OnePlus again because I have many issues with the previous ones, mostly on the software side that ruin the experience for me. Such as:
All AOSP based OnePus One firmwares (AOSP, CM, Oxygen, etc) lack proper proprietary camera driver in order to have "proper" working continuous autofocus video recording. Only ColorOS roms have proper camera driver, except for some reason I can not install official ColorOS beta on my phone since it won't boot no matter what. You need the official version to get OTA. The latest ColorOS version is hosted on baidu website which required a mainland chinese phone number to sign up to download. Furthermore, ColorOS, while have good features, have bugs of its own and always a version behind. I don't want to end up with the same situation again.
This leave my only other hope with the upcoming Nexus. When I think Nexus, I think poor build quality, weak battery and intentional missing hardware features, unfortunately LG made it seem that way twice already.

All AOSP based OnePus One firmwares (AOSP, CM, Oxygen, etc) lack proper proprietary camera driver in order to have "proper" working continuous autofocus video recording. Only ColorOS roms have proper camera driver, except for some reason I can not install official ColorOS beta on my phone since it won't boot no matter what. You need the official version to get OTA. The latest ColorOS version is hosted on baidu website which required a mainland chinese phone number to sign up to download. Furthermore, ColorOS, while have good features, have bugs of its own and always a version behind. I don't want to end up with the same situation again.
This leave my only other hope with the upcoming Nexus. When I think Nexus, I think poor build quality, weak battery and intentional missing hardware features, unfortunately LG made it seem that way twice already.

The US got the droid turbo didn't they? I don't know how cheap it is or whether its locked to a certain provider or what but the specs on it are a beast in comparison to the play - could potentially be the reason why they didn't release the play in the US.
Also, curious - how small are your pockets for the moto x style being too small to pocket? I remember fitting cd players into my jean pockets at one point so either I get gargantuan pockets on my jeans or idk :3
Got to agree with you on the nexus - I had the 4 and 5 and I loved them - but bad build quality and battery are what finally made me snap and look at the moto x this year.

I have a OnePlus, it does fit in my pocket, but it's very uncomfortable if you walk around with it all day, and it's harder to bend and stretch while it's in there. It's better if it fit in the pocket and not feel like a brick at the sametime.

Nope - the play is a bit smaller, (5.5 vs 5.7 inch screen) has a much bigger battery (3630maH vs 3000maH), lower screen resolution (HD vs Quad HD), less RAM (2GB vs 3GB), lower spec processor (Snapdragon 615 vs 808), has fewer customisation options and is significantly cheaper.

I don't seem to see the X Play as a mid ranged phone at all. It would've been the perfect phone if it was a bit more close to the overall phone size of the X (2014), but it is what it is.
I had several hands-on with the Moto X (2014) and I easily started loving it even if it has 5.2'' and that's relatively big for a phone in my opinion. The only things that keep stopping me to buy it are the 2300mah battery and the not so great camera.
I'm waiting here with my Z1C hoping that the X Play will feel in hand as good as the X (2014) and I can finally upgrade to a Moto.
The other option for me is the Nexus 5 (2015) but I really don't think they'll sport anything close to the Play's battery, as well as no micro-sd slot nor a 21mp camera. Last but not least, build quality.
I'm anxiously waiting for more in-depth reviews on youtube for the X Play.
Exactly my thoughts. Waiting for some more reviews and give them some time to iron out early production defects.
While I do love my Nexus 5, the battery has become a very important factor for me. I can't stand the fact to charge my phone every day.
They should just call it the Moto P (or something), having 2 completely different phones under the same "root" letter and than add some meaningless word at the end really ruins the beautiful simplicity of Moto branding.
I would really love to ask an Moto exec what were they thinking, it really makes no sense.

It is midranged - but these days "midrange" is more than sufficient for nearly anyone, and more importantly, the "top end" devices this year are all Cortex-A57 based and that has some serious power efficiency issues.

Droid Turbo = crippled by Verizon
I really am not keen on anything this year that has a Cortex-A57 core (at least not any handsets) so the X Play was really attractive to me.
My only disadvantages in X Play are:
- no stereo speakers (x style have it)
- no ir (hand movement) sensors (x style have it)
- hd video not 60 fps and no hdr video (x style have it)
- no software video (and photo?) stabilisation (x style have it)
- 2 gb RAM, my 2yr old s4 active has it too (x style have 3gb)
But it has FM Radio, costs little less, swapable back covers in lots of colors, bigger battery and it's little more compact in size and weight. I'm torn between Style and Play

They didnt launch 2 high end phones they launched one high end device in the US and we got stuck with a midrange device here in Canada.
And they somehow mixed up the batteries lol. Smaller battery in the device with the bigger higher res screen lol. Its very confusing.

I'm assuming you aren't in the US, since that phone won't even be available to us. I'll see what the next nexus phones are like, but chances are it will come down to the camera for me this time around

I was surprised that they didn't talk about software improvements... I was hoping Motorola would add more assist/voice features
But price is a huge positive....
I think I'll keep hold of my X 2014 for another year and go for the iPhone 7 next year.

The X Play version isn't their flagship anymore, it's like a higher-mid tier option. And considering its battery size at a price point that starts at $300 dollars, I'd say you're getting a pretty good deal. The 2014 X retailed at $500 in case you don't remember.

Well I would have called the nexus 6 their flagship of 2014 instead of the turbo since the droid line was Verizon exclusive.

The X play is more like the step between the MOTO G and the MOTO X. It doesn't look like the nexus is returning to Motorola this year so the new MOTO X probably will be their flagship device. I mean 6 core processor, 21 megapixel camera, 5 megapixel front facing camera.
What could come out topping that on Motorola's end? Oh ya and 5.7 inch full resolution screen. As well as a micro SD slot returning. Did you guys read the specs? What more do you want out of a phone

I've been a massive Moto X fan since they first released the very first Moto X but I really can't stand the new models and am sad that I'll be forced to move to another device (most likely an iPhone).

I'm pretty sure the majority of users here will happily trade an extra millimeter of thickness to accommodate a bigger battery.
You'll be saying the same thing when the Moto X 2016 is announced lol. It seems to be getting bigger each year. I'm certain next year's model will hit 6 inches in screen size like the Nexus 6.

Very disappointed in the new Moto X Style announcement. 5.7" is way too big. 5.2" is my limit. Also the snapdragon 800 series 808 or 810 are very disappointing to me along with losing the Amoled display. I will be holding onto my 2014 Moto X until next year.

I bought the new Moto G, because hell, it's $220, why not? And then will wait to see what the next Nexus is like. I agree, 5.7 is just too damn big.
Sounds like I'm one of the few who likes the new size. It's physically about the same size as the iPhone 6+ which fits in my pocket fine and the larger size is great for movies and games when coupled with the stereo speakers.
I also prefer the LCD to AMOLED. MotoDisplay is still going to be doable and with LCDs becoming more and more efficient it shouldn't have a huge impact on battery life.

Exactly my thoughts on it!
Moto X Play seems a downgrade to me in all aspects other than the battery department. I'll reserve my judgement on the 21MP camera until it's been properly tested.
Another phone I'm now considering is the Z4 Compact if it loses some fat.

I agree. I am hoping for the new Nexus 5 will be good...if not I might try to get a OP2. iPhone would be my last resort, but still an option.

How is a one carrier phone the flagship? The Moto X is, has been and will be the flagship.
I don't mind the new size. As I get older a bigger screen is good for my eyes, lol. I did say I'd pick my next phone on getting at least a half way decent camera so that will determine it for me. I was also thinking having expandable storage would be important for my purposes so it's nice that Motorola is kind of bucking that trend.
It'll be interesting to see what Google come up with.

So true! I use my phone as much as a mobile computing device as a phone so a big screen is good for me too. I can see how guys who want to carry the phone in their pocket don't like larger phones and if you can read those smaller screens great but I can't.
