International GS3 vs att GS3 - Galaxy S III General

I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to take the rooms and source from the UK version and use it on the att version? I know it will have different chips and chip sets. I'm just trying to get ideas to help me decide which one to get.

No you won't be able to put ROMs from int'l on att
So if you want the best possible dev community, go with int'l

yea. im pretty dam sure pewpewbanbang is correct.
Just look at the SGS2 and it's US counter phones on T-Mo, AT&T, and Sprint.
Look at the Note and AT&T's Note.

Update: Sure enough, Mobilicity is also onboard, which along with Wind Mobile makes it pretty clear that T-Mobile-friendly AWS frequencies are baked in.
We pretty much knew it is coming to the states. The question is when. Hopefully not much will be changed.

Yup. The real question is the US gonna get the nerfed version. I want no part of that.
So is it going to be like the Galaxy Nexus where you could buy the Canadian version which was the same phone.. Will the Canadian phone be same but with the 1700 band or will there b differences?
---
To each their own.
I have not read anywhere that the international version, i9300, is a pentaband HSDPA phone. Also, GSMArena has it listed as a quad band so it will not work on T-Mobiles 4G network. It looks like if/when it does come to T-Mo, it will need to be a customized version.
Prob a customized Canadian version...
The good news is that Tmo users do not need to wait another 6 months till the SGS III comes out in Tmo
Any idea on whether this will have the same processor as the international version?
I'm betting it will have a s4 processor. I hope I'm wrong....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Mobilicity doesn't have LTE. we just have wait and see, what they do to the phone.
This just means a custom aws version will also be released. Doesn't look like the international version has T-Mobile hspa. So it will probably not come with the exynos CPU etc.

what's wrong with the S4 Qualcomn?
it;s as beefy as any of the new SOC, even faster than the nVidia Tegra
I personally would like the GSM NA variants to be as close to the international version as possible. Mostly because of the ease of porting custom ROMs. And I really do like my GT-I9100's physical home button. Hope that makes it over, but I doubt it (the NA models never had it, so getting one on the GS3 will break the design/UI continuity).
so how does one go about getting Mobilicity or wind mobile's gs3? bestbuy.ca doesnt ship outside of Canada. some carrier's website dont let you buy phone @ full price.

Why a new forum?

Why was it decided that AT&T SG3 needs a new forum? Since models of all US carriers are the same variant, wouldn't it make sense to have a "US GS3" and a "Intl. GS3" forum instead of one for each carrier?

It's true that U.S. variants are mostly the same, but the sub-forums that'll be created later (Q&A, Development, General, etc...) will sometimes be carrier specific. Such as people asking about availability, AT&T bloatware VS Sprint bloatware, or about AT&T 3G/LTE VS Verizon's CDMA/LTE, etc.
EDIT: Hah... and the subforums were created JUST as I posted my reply.

No, they're the same.. just different radios
Why create this thread? I really enjoy having our own forum. No need to weed through crap that doesn't pertain to my device.
Lol every Galaxy get his own Forum why no Sub Forum?
For the Galaxy S2 there is also a 9100G Sub Forum.
But for the HTC One S C2 there is no Sub Forum or all Xperia U/P/Sola Threads
are in the Xperia S Forum. No Sub Forums

ya i think its a good idea for that reason...enough people have each galaxy to fill their own forum, and since the radios are different and will need a diff rom for each it will help un**** the development forums a ton

The AT&T SGS III has a SIM card slot, but some of the other US variants do not have it.
EDIT: The Sprint variant does not have a SIM slot... At least as shown in the video linked below.... FF video to 2:25

Forum should be renamed to the Galaxy S III SGH-i747 forum, as Telus/Bell/Rogers in Canada are using the exact same model

Correction the sprint version does have a SIM slot with built in microsim, its just not accessible its built in underneath the phone's back housing. The reason for the SIM is because Sprint's version support their coming LTE network.

Are you being "specific" to the Sprint SGS III?... If not, elaborate... I own a network unlocked AT&T Captivate and when I travel I'm able to insert a pre-paid SIM from other GSM providers and make phone calls. You're saying that this can't not be done with the AT&T SGS III once it is network unlocked? No other network SIM will work?

Getting the htc one on AT&T? Bad choice?

Ok so I'm with att and the past phones I've had (with exception of the htc one x for a few weeks) were samsung galaxy line...I'm really looking into getting this phone, but I'm curious just how strict att will be with it.... I read this article here http://htcsource.com/2013/02/htc-ge...source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter#prettyPhoto and it concerns me a bit....I mean if att will block users from doing simple things on this phone like this, will they block important things like unlocking the bootloader etc? I've never seen att be like that with any samsung phones I've had....if I get this phone I want to be able to customize it how I want if I choose not to use a custom rom and go stock....its been awhile since I've had an htc phone with att are they that strict? Thanks guys

I'm also using AT&T and this is also quite concerning. It seems like they are extremely strict. I don't understand why they would block such a service? its not like it hurts them in anyway. What a stab in the back AT&T
How I hate these carriers and their stupid ****ing decisions.
If you're concerned about unlocking the bootloader, I wouldn't be. I'm sure if AT&T blocks HTC from allowing it to be unlocked through their website, someone will crack it here.
if i were you, do not purchase the att version. Bootloader will be unlocked etc. Unless the S-OFF by jcare and beaups will work, then go ahead.
But software updates will take 2-3 months after the international version gets it first. You wont get FM radio, and less bloatware.
But on the upside you will get LTE.

looks like that im done with stupid at&t, they have been shoving me with high bills down my throat every month
and now this??
Yeah I thought about buying the unlocked version...cheapest I saw was 656.00 on handtech....but I'm one of those people who change phones so often that might not be the best for me to invest that much....speaking of the fm radio....don't all the models including the us versions have them? I know the us versions block the radio but I remember on the the att onex I had someone found a way to unlock the radio and I was able to use it on mine with the unlock trick....also as u said I can still lte on either one I decide correct?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
I'll be getting mine on AT&T. I bet this issue will be overcome easily with root. I will likely get mine in store on release day, and the pimary reason I will go with the AT&T version (easy in store purchase/exchange/etc).
I've got no choice. The only other option is Veri$ion and they won't get another dime of my money. They F'd me over twice at the end of contracts and hit me with massive roaming bills. 2nd time I didn't pay and had it removed from my credit after 7yrs. At$t is the only provider that has good coverage.
We'll get root and all will be good.
I've had similar concerns, but I think we'll see strong dev support for the One and having only one hardware variant (from a processor perspective) will help as well. It should make it easier for devs to support their roms across all the different carriers.
I would not pre-order anything from ATT -- not before seeing where and how big they make their tramp-stamp. Same for Verizon.
Verizon isn't getting the One.

I may be wrong, but I don't think anyone has manged to manipulate the LTE radio bands like that yet. In fact, I haven't seen an unlocked one with LTE radios so far either. It would be great if it could be done thought. That'd give AT&T, T-Mobile, and the rest a headache and us a way to work around them!

which note 3 to get?

im confused... which one is better to get between the n9005 and the n9000? which one will run faster? im using red pocket mobile in the u.s. and want to flash roms... obviously im not getting the att version! so which one is better?
Probably the T-Mobile version. Things aren't looking good for an unlocked non branded version either.

Rooting the note 4

So the s6 sucks, gonna get a note 4 note instead. I've been reading all these threads but I'm not sure what variant I'll be getting. I'm on att and want to know if I'll be able to root it and if I'll be able to use custom roms, preferably without using safe strap. Any help/advise would be appreciated.
How about if you go and browse/search Note 4 forums? All this has alrdy been said
I've been, but there's too many forums for different models. The one I think is for the phone I'm gonna get has nothing but a kernel.
AT&T and Verizon variants are not rootable unless you have the Google play developer editions of the phone.

That's probably not gonna happen since I'm getting it thru my upgrade on att and I'm not switching because I'm grandfather'd in for unlimited data. I can't afford to pay for one out right.
Then there is obviously no question about what Variant you will be getting, it will be the Att one which is as of now unrootable. You will need either a TMo one look in craigslist or an international version.

If that's your only option and want to root I would buy it, sell it immediately brand new in box, and then turn around and buy a T-Mobile version off of CL or eBay as the previous person stated. The at&t version can't be rooted. It has a locked bootloader and it doesn't look like it'll ever be any better.
