CM9 for Galaxy Tab 2! - Galaxy Tab 2 General

It's exactly what the title says...it's on another certain forum that starts with a r...I'm using it right now...already excellent as a daily driver...though the author says it's barely alpha...I would highly advise checking it out! Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet..

From the thread:
What's not working:
--Audio Capture (voice commands, camcorder audio)
--Bluetooth Bluetooth actually works for connecting and data transfer..will not work for audio as I haven't gotten there yet.
--Chrome Beta not working yet
--YouTube not showing in market (and probably a few others (although you can download and sideload YouTube from the link below and it works, also webviewing YouTube works)

I personally wouldn't really want to use that unless at least the Chrome and audio issues were fixed (those are also the reasons I abandoned the AOKP ROM here).

I use the stock browser, and i can wait on Bluetooth a2dp, so yeah, if those are deal beakers, not a good rom, other than that, it's working flawlessly...

No ROM that is made from AOSP has these features that you "need" in them currently due to kernel source not being complete from Samsung.
Blame Samsung, not any development. Have fun on TouchWiz while the rest of us test drive the future of our tablets.
PS: No one is making you use these roms.

I didnt't mean to sound critical, only to mention some of the limitations that prevent me and people a lot like me from using it as a daily. No offense or criticism intended.

Can somebody link to cm9, and make a small guide on how to root and flash.

CM9 with stock kernel?
Would it be possible to make a CM9 rom with the stock kernel so that mic and other things work?

To answer a couple of questions, it's my understanding that it's against forum rules to link to an outside forum....afraid you'll have to google it.
Also, CM9 requires an AOSP kernel, so the stock kernel wouldn't be compatible.
Not the answers anyone wanted, but that's my take.

The sound not working wasnt because of the kernel source. I just hadnt gotten to it yet
Samsung released new kernel sources that work so the heavier fixing can begin. Last build had working mic as well as the sound. Still need to get bluetooth audio working but dont have a headset to test with :'( . Going to see if I can borrow one for a few days so I can get it working.

Audio Routing crap

Has anyone looked at the audio routing bugs plaguing DK17+ kernels? I find it hard to believe there is no interest in getting these bugs fixed. There's two major bugs (I have experienced) related to this issue: having to toggle the speaker inside a phone call in order to get sound in/out, and; all sounds coming out through earpiece after stopped use of a bluetooth headset.

his post says "DK17+" meaning everything since DK17.. up to and including EB13.. the current build has been plagued with this crap too.
EDIT: I'm no developer, but I recognize Forcystos as a great dev.. I'd be happy to dig into some code if you can point me in the right direction.

SHOCKING - Swapped STEREO channels in Video recording

I noticed this yesterday while recording few videos using the stock camera app. I have been testing using stock camera app on both the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 based RELEASED ROMs and all seems to be affected.
I request members to check on their mobile by recording a quick video to see if anyone of us are NOT affected with this silly but IMPORTANT bug by Samsung. Suggests the level of testing they do before releasing these ROMs.
Also, when recording inverted with Samsung logo (earpiece) towards the right seems to fix this issue (as there is no change in channel mapping while changing orientation. However, playing back such files pose another serious bug that it only plays back fine on the phone screen and using MHL or a PC makes the video upside down despite the camera app supposedly fixing the orientation during recording.
My MHL connection is always fragile (though it worked fine for a day or so after swapping the mobo after a shocking hard brick). This also seems to be an issue with I9100 as I have tested it on 3 phones and all have the same issue.
To test this STEREO bug, you could record a quick video while snapping around the left and right microphones. They get reversed (swapped) during playback unless you record the video inverted.

I only noticed this on released version as the leaked one never worked for me as I dint do a wipe before installing them. After a wipe, I could access the stock camera app and notice this issue since the official release. Could well possibly exist since the leaked versions.
Samsung just need to remap the LR channels so we get proper audio on the video as it doesn't make much sense just to get stereo audio unless the directional clues are accurate. Also, they need to dynamically change this mapping for inverted video recording while also figuring why those inverted videos really look inverted on other devices and MHL - HDMI.
I truly dove in to my bunker before i opened this topic. Thank you for the warning.

Buddy I request you to please try to understand the question before participating in a pool.
There was NO STEREO recording in GB ROMs, so please suggest how would you observe this issue? Stereo recording is enabled only in ICS ROMs and hence the issue popped up with it and hasn't been fixed even on the latest LPU 4.0.4 release.
The same appears (swapped stereo channels) on mine Galaxy S3 with official ICS 4.0.4. I am really pissed and waiting Samsung to correct this.
I noticed that since 4.0.3 (I called Samsung hotline: "issue will be solved in next update") and as I see, the 4.0.4 doesn't solve it. We have to wait for 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Xda is not a place for rudeness we are here to help each other before you get on your high horse and waste the effort of creating a patronising video of how to use google. This reason for my post is because this is a specific problem with the elk4 leak. If you read the other threads you would have seen others have tried agps and it still does not work. Hence my post.

1. Rudeness citation, please;
2. It is not a video it is a webpage based service created fot peoples who are unable to use search button in XDA forum or at Google, therefore, although I like your way of thinking, there is no high horse on the horizon, sorry. But... my concerns about your ability to use the patch are even bigger now, as you have thought it is a video created especially for you...
3. If you have specific problem, it would be better place for it, namely: Q&A, just below the general section of forum.
Last but not least: I have read ALL cited by me thread. No single comment about non working with your ROM, therefore, if you're giving such statement, provide link to the post, please.
You should have post this in Q&A section. Anyway I think it's kernel related just flash Siah kernel see if it's fix your problem but Siah kernel isn't fully compatible with this ROM yet so it will break your video recording.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Well this would make it one. This particular firmware gps problem is not related to whatever patch does, therefore it is not solved by a patch. Now if someone has idea or solution.... Doubt it anyways, and since I'm depending heavily on navigation for my work, back to lj5 patiently waiting for jkay, till next leak and next round of testing.
Testing JKay alpha on GT-I9300
Just noticed gps problems today, is there a fix? I previously didnt wipe. But flashed again full wipe. Not tested yet.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I can confirm that this worked for me today:
I had just installed Omega 33, and was trying to use GPS to navigate, but was not getting a good on my location (although I seemed to have a certain amount of accuracy to my position). I turned the GPS off and on again, and what little accuracy present went away and I never got the GPS lock.
I used the app known as "Fasterfix" from the play store. It needs root privileges in order for it to modify the "GPS.conf" file.
I live in India. Hence I chose my server as Asia-> India (it sets it to in.pool.ntp.org or something like that). There was no need to reboot. After this, I was successfully able to navigate without any problems.
Try it out and let me know whether it works.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
My problem was never getting a fast lock, it was holding onto it. When I would press navigate i would drive certain distance and would notice my position is few streets behind, then would get prompt gps lost, never to return. Turn off gps toggle, turn on later, aquire lock. Rinse and repeat.

You are saying the aGPS patch works, although from what I have read it's a completely unrelated problem, please show me it worked. If there is already a fix posted you should be straight linking it with a "please use the search next time" that's a helpful post.
And do you even know the problem, have you ever looked in the leaked firmware thread, I barely see you (checking the forums multiple times every day) and when I do see you your posts are rude, with absolutely no intelligence what so ever.

Microphone on ICS and Jelly Bean for Kindle Fire.

Hello, I wanted to ask a question about why a mic works on Gingerbread ROMs but not on ICS or JB. I've tested a lot of ROMs and I've managed to make the Mic work once only in GB. I don't know much about how this works but I think its a driver problem or something because I installed a the Stock GB Sound Recorder on a JB ROM but now it wouldn't work. Could someone help if there's a way to make the Mic work on JB or at least ICS. I really don't like GB and would like to use this ability on a actual good OS such as JB 4.2.

Badly want mic functionality on these versions as well...ideally Jellybean, but I figure progress is progress and ICS is better than nothing.

No, it hasn't been fixed yet, I have his latest update and still doesn't work. If there there's no help or installation of the Mic on the JB than I will find a way do so, but i prefer a actual developer who DOES know how to fix this problem because I am not very skilled at this sort of things.

One issue I know of is that you need the exact version of Google Voice Search to use some voice based features. That being said, in ICS and JellyBean much has changed in terms of Voice Search so that could be an issue. I think its a kernel issue with 3.x kernels, but lets wait till hashcode tries a fix

Car audio and phone guy question

I just had a new deck installed, here's the one I had installed, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-P8400BH
And when I plug my phone in to the USB, it says device unrecognized. Is that normal for Nexus devices? Is there any fix for it? And no bluetooth information is displayed, i see its something to do with something that LG or Samsung puts in their branded phones, so its absent from a Nexus, is there any rom with it in it?
Hey there. Same deck and same phone here. For the USB to phone, don't bother. Never got it to work myself. As far as information displaying while playing, many of the custom ROMs support this (CM10.1, AOKP, etc.), so you might want to give one of them a shot. I'm not sure this is something that can be added, or if it's something that that requires a whole ROM to implement.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
The nexus 4 doesn't use UMS for mounting. It uses MTP. Unfortunately it won't be compatible with your deck or any other device for that matter.
There aren't any ROMs that will change that either.

Haha, gotta love a cheap solution. Esp as he's just bought a new receiver.
Don't bother with cm right now. Apparently because of the new Bluetooth stack Google used in 4.21 they had to pull out AVRCP v1.3 (the Bluetooth control protocol that allows for song meta data to be sent to the headset) out of cm10.1 and revert back to v1.0 that only allows control...No metadata.
Stock Android only has AVRCP v1.0 so that's why it doesn't work on any stock Nexus device.
...but my wife's GS3 has AVRCP v1.3...boo.
