Finally i decide to go for galaxy nexus

Quite likely that I will get one

What will be the price of it?

Too many fails for my taste. I don't want to pay over $700 (off contract) for 2011 years tech. May get it if there are a lack of alternatives though. I just don't want to pay premium prices for something that i don't think match my premium expectations. If they just got the screen right.........

Go A15 or go home.

Awesome device!
I think I'll get one and leave Sony

He called the sgs2 slow in the video . Watching a video and letting it play while replying to a txt is purdy sweet.

after seeing what this phone has to offer.. i think it'll prob be best to just hold off for the new nexus phone thats going to be released later this year with google jelly bean on it. i currently have a nexus s with ics and everything is fine for now. the nexus galaxy was not worth the upgrade for me. the galaxy 3 is pretty much a new version of the nexus galaxy for the most part. i think holding off for just a lil bit longer will be my best option seeing as i have a device that can still do and function as i need it to.

Yes most certainly, to those saying "fail" well you don't have to stick around these forums much if your not gonna be buying it.

U Forget to mention

Yeah, sorry.

No. Had the Nexus and wasn't happy with the battery.
I'm going with the One X with the S4. Beautiful display, and I like the new Sense.
I might go for the Sprint version. 2000 mah and micro SD.

All the software crap I won't use, I just want a superfast phone that weighs f*ck all and has an amazing screen for browsing, games and porn.
"never worry about the backlight going off with our eye sensor" well for years i've set my phones to never go dark, so that's no use to me.
"simply start writing a text message to a contact, then lift the phone to your face and the phone will auto dial" how about just clicking phonebook and then the persons name, then lift the phone to your head? Lol no use again.
NFC well that isn't a first
I can't remember anything else so nothing groundbreaking to remember. I'll try one out though, it's certainly light, and should be ultra fast. Hopefully touchwiz 4 will feel more grown up

Ahh I see. I saw the leaked photo of the US Galaxy S2 family and while they're all nice I can't help but think the International version looks better. Plus I'm not sure whether I'd fancy the bigger screen, 4.3" seems to be the sweet spot for myself.
Here we are, with our SGSII's... as early adopters....
And now they release what it probably should have been in the first place with proper firmware probably.
Oh well, it's always the same
good bye SGS2 !
wait until they are benchmarked and the first problems arise.
I wonder if it's a Qualcomm SOC or Exynos. Exynos demolishes Qualcomm's offerings at the moment

Its good and bad at the same time I think. Gonna stick it out for a long yime with the sgs2 but the cravings will persisy unfortunately. No cravings yet though, love this phone.
agreed to #15.
1) is there a need for another 0.2" of screen estate?
my take : 4.3" sgs2 is the sweet spot for me. i have trouble swiping my thumb across the whole screen already.
2) is there a need for an extra 0.3mhz of processor or 1850mah battery?
my take : setcpu is the answer.
extended battery pack aren't expensive on ebay.
My opinions
The extra processing power and screen estate will nullify the increase in capacity of batt. furthermore, the perennial dual core issue is still unfixed in 2.3.4. and samsung have the balls to release another "beta" phone.
my hunch
samsung is trying hard to best iphone5 and downplay it's "wow factor" in sept. notice the link? 4.5, dual core 1.5, it's all marketing numbers. like megapixel wars. no doubt, people will start comparing iphone 5 with 4.5" S2 in terms of raw power. that's what sammy wants.
but for what apple did, whoring over patents. go smash iphone5 to pieces man, sammy. we'll love a phone war anytime.
conclusion
4.5" S2 is a marketing gadget.
SGS2 has already covered much that we (a typical consumer) need.
If there's anything to look, go for tablets tegra kai-el releasing in a few months time.
I'm sure 4.5" S2 would look like phone drenched in cat piss in a few months time.
go for 4.5" S2 if...
you want lte.
you want nfc. ironically 4.3" S2 korea has it.
you use gadgets, not the other way around! ^^;
If they improve the sound quality and Supercurio brings voodoo to it, I'll be all over it.

Decent analysis and I think I pretty much concur. However, I don't think (and I'm not suggesting that you do either) that Samsung are doing this to piss off early adopters or force us to upgrade - they haven't even changed the name for starters, so there is no real sense of this being something new.
Marketing gimmick? Possibly, but only hardcore techies are going to be influenced by the marginal increase in specs.
So I suspect that the bits they use to make the device have moved on - if you can get a 4.5" screen at the same price as the old 4.3", why not use it...?
This is a gentle evolution in my book, not a massive statement.
If you have a GS2 there is no reason at all to go for that phone, a 4.5" screen imo will make the phone a little on the large side and this phone can be over-clocked if desired, I don't see the point of it.
What about SUPER AMOLED HD display that was talked about ??

I'm getting one, the screen resolution is what sells it for me.
I was before I got the S2. Now, after using the S2, I feel the S2 is slightly too big for me so the Note is a no.
I've been giving it a thought this whole week. The best selling point for me is the idea that it can serve as a digital sketchbook. What worries me the most is its size as a phone. I even made a 1:1 papercraft mockup just the get the feel of it. My conclusion so far is it's too big... for my hand... as a phone. It's clearly designed to be handled with two hands.
I went lurking in the Galaxy Note forum. Some of the turn offs, compared to the SGS2, were the smoothness, battery life and how some apps don't stretch the way it meant to be for the screen resolution.
So I'm sticking with the SGS2. I still think this is still the best phone in the market right now.
You guys must be fairly flush with cash if your thinking of buying this phone, ive only got my SGSII 4 months so it would be lunacy for me to try and get cash together to buy something that in all seriousness isn't that much better (if at all) and with an inferior camera.
I'll wait until next year to get a SGS3 whenever it comes out.

I could have sprung for a contract should my credit rating allow it. The phone itself would have been almost my entire savings. So the price made me really think.
I was originally going to use it as an all in one ereader, phone, pmp. But having bought the s2 for around half the price of the note so I can get a kindle instead and still save a load of money. Just more inconvenient but better usability. Note seems more of a doctors toy. Awesome way to send a prescription lol

i am fighting myself since a week now to not get it...
i really really love my sgs2... i every way... and i still hope that there will be alot more developement for the sgs2... it always feels smooth, screen is very good, battery life is good and so on...
the only thing that is pushing me to the note is the screen size...
it is impossible (for me) that the note will be as smooth as the sgs2... cause the 1.5ghz is (i think) not enough for the screen size and resolution... the 1.2 on the sgs2 is (for now) more than enough as it proofed itself on every rom i tried... i would never watch a 1080p movie on the phone... 720p is MORE than enough for that kind of screensizes...
for me the PRO and the CON is the same: Screen
we will the in the next few days what the devs say about the note...
Just had a quick browse on the Galaxy Note forums, quiet enough as expected with not many people having got this yet, screen is too big for me the SGSII is the perfect size.
Have you guys seen the review over at www.androidnz.net ?

Since I got my gs2 havent really played with My galaxy tab 10.1. I could just imagine how much less ill use it if I had a 5.3 inch screen phone. My main reason for a big screen is for surfing and easier to type with my huge hands this is a def buy that is if its for T-Mobile.
I've seen the review over at phonearena and doesn't really like it.. I'd prefer a phone which have a screen size of below 5" and about the same width and height as my SGS2

I'm all for anything that hastens the departure of "skinny jeans" as something fashionable.
As a former Dell Streak 5 user, I think I'll adapt to the extra size quite well, given that it's actually smaller and lighter than the Streak was.
I'll pass the S2 on to my wife, which will help to push the deal through the 'purchasing department,' if you know what I mean.

This might be a true successor to the original Droid Incredible. Some sites are saying AMOLED, so that would be nice. I'm not a fan of SLCD. Now, if only they can do something about battery life. That's the reason I didn't go to Rezound (oh, and the fact that the phone was way too thick in the first place).
I'm really torn. I like HTC Sense (Yeah, I guess I'm in the minority) but the battery on the Razr Maxx makes me want to overlook that I am not a fan of Moto's UI as much and their screen issues. If by some miracle HTC has addressed battery size/life, I think this will be my next phone.
Looks nice and all, but I'm pretty reluctant to purchase another snapdragon phone. Sense can be cool but future-proofing is cooler. As we all know from our Adreno 200 woes, snapdragon products are not future-proof and qualcomm has made no effort to collaborate with the community to bring us updated video drivers or open source userspace drivers. I'm voting with my wallet on this one.

Here's what this phone's gotta have for me to get one: a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, an HD screen that is NOT pentile, and a battery that approaches 2000 mAh.
I would also like to be able to turn Sense off and go plain vanilla, or I'd like to use a launcher of my choice.
I've been eligible for an upgrade since January 4th. It's hard holding off until MWC and CTIA... If I don't see anything I like, it will be an LG Spectrum for me.

I only did a 1 year (remember those) upgrade when I got my Incredible.. and I got it day 1...
There has been nothing yet to want me to change to a new phone...
What I want: CDMA / GSM / LTE on 1 chip (which should be in phones by end of year - will definitely help battery life if everything was on one)... Super Amoled.... 4 inch Screen (slightly bigger than the Incredible.. but not huge like the others. I have big hands.. really big.. but its a phone.. not a tablet I want)... GREAT camera... And long battery life (hopefully fixed with my first wish)...
I'm not an Android fanboy.. or an iOS fanboy.. I just want a phone to match what I want.
Hmmm... I'll probably miss my optical track "ball". I rarely use it but comes in handy for editing.

I just want to see Verizon's line of phones for this summer so I can make an informed decision. Rumors are great but the one thing not mentioned is becoming more important, battery capacity.
Looks huge. Why have all the companies gotten caught up in a screen size pissing contest? We need another RAZR that is thin AND small. Not like the current one, which is closer to a machete than a razor.

Should I buy a Nexus 4?

Hey,
I have had my one x since release day, but now it is in a bad way.
The screen has become partially delaminated, allowing dirt into the screen and causing a section of the touch screen to not function. The back is also very scratched.
Assuming I can do the repair myself, the parts would cost around £115.
My question is, should I get a nexus 4 or would I be in any way downgrading?
I could do my best to disguise the problems (clean under screen and reseal) and I might get around £150 from a recycling company.
A few things to note are that I love stock android and the idea of getting updates almost instantly.
I also don't think I would need more than 16gb given the use of Google drive and 35gb of Dropbox.
I do however love my phones screen and the community for the One X.
Anyway, I would love to hear people's opinions and have discussions about this as choosing my phone is one of the most important decisions I have to make haha.

Inspite of its design shortcuts and glass back, the n4 is a good deal.
If your device is shot, I'd say get one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm not sure whether I like the idea of a glass back. To be honest, whilst the plastic on my phone is battered the screen is still completely pristine.
Unless it is found to be super fragile, I would welcome the addition of more glass.
Does anyone know how the screen on the n4 compares to the one X?
It's on par with the X, it beats it in certain areas vice versa but One X probably has the better screen that's not saying the IPS on the N4 is bad as it's just as good.
However you lose a bit of screen estate due to the on screen buttons.

Yes most of the reviews state its not as good as all the other phones. But it's decent according to the reviews. Just check out the sample shots on various sites and see if you can live with the results.

I think I have just two more questions. When will it stop receiving updates first? Does the nexus s or galaxy nexus still get updates first or do they have to wait?
Also, how easy it to to root and install kernels etc? The one was a hassle and I had to void my warranty.

Not sure about the first question as I've never had a Nexus device but I'm sure they are still getting updates.
Unlocking a Nexus device is the most simplest simple command and your done, so it should be a breeze installing roms and kernels and shouldn't affect warranty like the HOX does I believe as it's a developers phone end of the day.
I for one will be getting one to try out hopefully on release day if permitting. Getting a bit angry with the HOX battery life it can last me through the day but when I start using it dies quickly.

Good point. The battery will be much better on the N4 since it's a 28nm cpu.
Well honestly.. You seem to have a rugged lifestyle, or is real rough on your phones. I would suggest you get something more like the Casio commando phone.
I don't think the n4 would be good for kids in school, or anything that could possibly harm a glass bodied phone.
But as a backup, out going out phone, sure. Plus the price is right, and wouldn't hurt you too bad if you are stuck in a contract.

I honestly couldn't suggest it, if you do a lot of bike riding, or if it's you're main source of transportation.
You Europeans do a lot more bike riding than us lazy Americans though, I think the price of gas has a lot to do with it.
I remember when I bought my evo, I was floored when I found out that someone in the UK basically paid double what I did, after vat.
My sensation would be great for bike riding, since the gorilla glass screen curves inward to avoid scratches, and the battery cover is the whole phone case, just get a new one for 30 bucks when the old one gets scuffed up. Battery life is meh, though.

Hello all!
Question - As far as I understood - Menu Buttons are on-screen.
That means Menu Buttons are taking a lil' of the 4,7 inch screen?????, so that actually the usable screen without buttons is smthng like 4,6 or so?
Or rephrased:
Is the usable part of screen bigger in the case of the HOX than in Nexus 4?
I don't know what to do to be honest.... i could sell my hox for smthing like nearly 350 Euros, and hopefully i would get a Nexus 4 for it....
But is it really worth???
Pluses of the HOX in my opinion over the Nexus:
1. Sense
2. Screen + Camera
3. Beats Equalizer
4. HOX community
Now... I would change it for a Nexus 4 for the following reasons:
1. Updates directly from Google
2. Phone designed together with google, so it will be their hardware reference when google issues an android upgrade
3. Design (Glass-back)
4. 2gb of RAM and better processor
Now, to be honest I miss iOS in terms of buttery user interface, clean interface, no force-closes, etc.
I don't want to switch again to iOS, but it would be nice to find something alike in an android....
I had the best experience with the HOX for a sense ROM, and with i9100 a very fine experience with CM9.
I am searching for THE Android device.... Is Nexus it?
If not, then I would bet on the next flagship from HTC (not the HOX+, but the next one).
Samsung is totally out of the question due to it's cheap recycled-plastic design!

Kinda have to comment on this. I can GUARANTEE you that within a month or so the Nexus will have better community support, its 75% of the reason i got rid of my HOX and went back to my old Galaxy S. Granted the HOX community is much more established now, but nothing beats Nexus devices for community and devs and so on.

[Q] Nexus 4 - Am I making a mistake?

I am an avid fan of the Samsung S series of phones. I've had a few and to date think the S3 is the best they've done so far (S4 notwithstanding). But, I love the Google Nexus series of phones and have owned one, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I purchased the Nexus 4 on Saturday from Google and I cannot wait to get it. I love the bareness of the Nexus line. I love Android in its stock form. Thing is, I'm going from one of the best selling phones to a midlevel device. Am I making a mistake doing this? What am I loosing? Currently, we do have LTE in our area but it's sucking the heck out of my battery on the S3 so I'm not concerned if the N4 has no LTE. Am I gaining anything from going to the N4? Is the camera good enough? What about the sound on it - it sucked moose butt on the SGN!
I'm hoping for some comments and opinions that will help me in evaluating this latest purchase and what to expect. Thanks guys:good:
Mid-level? You do realize a quad core chip and 2gb of ram make this a high-level device as for lte I personally don't use it and camera is better then the galaxy nexus but isn't the best obviously for the price speakers do fine as well

Wait until the 15th this month, there is a revised Nexus 4 to be released that should support full LTE, 32 GB of storage and maybe other upgrades. For the current one i`am very happy with it, the camera is a bit less than in the S3, but the cpu and gpu are much better. The screen is fantastic, bright, crisp and a good vieuwing angles. For me it is an upgrade compared to the S3 or even the S4 (wich i`am gona skip for sure). The N4 has no bloatware and great development. And for a very good price.
BTW the N4 is not mid level
Crap...I shoulda waited. I forgot about the LTE version coming out! Oh wells...it's already paid for. Has LG stepped it up on the Nexus line? I've never been a fan of them but in my opinion, Google wouldn't brand their phone if it wasn't any good. As good as the S3 is, it feels slow opening stuff sometimes even with a fresh factory refresh. It's got some good internals so it makes no sense why it does this...this always bugged me. It wasn't a deal breaker as the camera on this phone is sick! Great picture quality on it.

The internal storage of the Galaxy S4 is 16GB and 7GB is for the OS and lots and lots of gimmicks/bloatware/crap. 9GB available for the user We on the N4 have about 13GB left.
I don't think branding the N4 as a mid level device is correct or at least in my opinion. Perhaps it's the price tag that makes it "mid level" or whatever the reason is, the Nexus 4 is more of a high end device for cheap.
I bought a brand new GS3 from a friend a few weeks ago and I don't like it anymore. It was a good idea I didn't get it last year when it came out. I'm gonna sell it...

Yeah, the N4 is a high-end phone for a mid-range price. Absolute bargain.

Its odd the “mid range" stigma that's put on the N4 by average consumer, even here at xda. I've seen hundreds of post from various forums or sites in the comments with people calling it that and ironically they are Galaxy users who usually say things like this poster also did about the UI being sluggish while confidently calling the S a high end device lol. OP glad you got the N4, you'll be more than satisfied I believe, you'll read a bunch of complaints on here, but like absolutely any other phone available if you read enough threads on here people will have funky devices or just nit picky problems. UI is awesome, storage is pretty sufficient, OS barely uses any space, I have probably 1000 pics, 30 albums and maybe 50 apps including CSR Racing which is large and have about 4.5gigs free. Lacking LTE maybe an issue for some, but honestly I think it becomes a feature option issue for most, the inability to claim LTE rights amongst other phone users lol, I'm on T-Mobile and live in Philadelphia, my data is always fast, in most real world scenarios as fast as my boys DNA, and as fast as my brother in laws S3 on AT&T. Camera is another issue for some, not for others, look on the pic from n4 thread, when you work at it, the phone is capable of taking some amazing shots, on the fly pull your phone out and snap can be hit or miss but why some people expect or even need their phone to be art gallery worthy pics I don't know lol. Speaker, is well a speaker, I can hear when I need to, but all this talk of the HTC having "boom" sound and dual speakers for what? If I wanna host a mini rave with my phone? Lol I just don't see the real world use for it. Summing it up, everyone that has touched my N4 since I got it, users of iPhone, S phones and even my cousin who still won't let BlackBerry die has loved this phone after spending as little as 10 minutes with it. Feels great in the hand, UI is always snappy, screen is crisp.

Great replies everyone...thank you. I've read a lot of reviews and such and most of them calls the N4 a midrange phone. In my opinion, they do it based on the price and public (uninformed) preception. I used the same phrase here based on these although loving stock android like I do, I'd be calling it high end. The Camera for me is a nice addition because working as a tech for UPS, I travel around some and get to see the sights along the way. In doing so, it's nice to have a quality camera onhand to take some pictures of where I've been. I don't always take a "camera" as I travel light so having a quality one with me is very handy, which is why I ask what the quality is on the N4. I've read a lot on XDA and seen some pics and it is hit and miss from what I see but a definate upgrage from the SGN.
I've read a lot about the back breaking/cracking. I'm thinking it's a good idea to get a sheild for the back at least. I've never been a fan of putting one on the front as I like the smooth feeling while sliding/swyping.

I'd agree with putting on a back glass protector. If anything the Nexus is a more high-end phone than the S3 tbh, the S4 Pro trumps the Exynos; 2GB RAM > 1, the screen is at a higher resolution and the build feels more premium than the S3. The only reason it's sometimes called a mid range phone is because of the price. There also seems to be a lot of hate for it on the internet though, which is odd because everyone I know who has one likes it. I think that it's only because loads of people wanted one but had huge delays when ordering it.
A case will provide more protection than a back protector.

Slim but tough is what I'd want in a case. Know which is best?

I have that case. As a matter of fact I have so many cases for this phone that I only use my diztronic case. Lol.

There`s not much choice in cases for the N4 in the Netherlands and ordered it in the UK. Do you have the XDA case also?

I don't have the XDA case. I don't like the color and design.

If you want the rearth ringke fusion case I can give it to you for free if you live in the U.S. I don't need it. It's just sitting in my desk drawer not being used.

Just because a gs3/4 is over $500 doesn't make it a high end device, calling the nexus 4 a mid range device is ignorance, and yes the nexus 4 beats both

Well either way the S3/S4 are high-end devices. I doubt the Nexus 4 beats the both devices. The S4 has a newer CPU and it's software features are awesome in my opinion.
