Camera comparison with HTC One S - Desire HD General

Hello,
here is my test about camera comparison with HTC One S & Powershoot SX 210 IS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkYw8CuT9vc
Specificity:
Desire HD:
720p
8Mpx
1Ghz
One S:
1080p
8Mpx
1.5Ghz
F2.0 28mm lens
PowerShoot SX210IS
720p
14.1Mpx

nice comparison, though i'm not surprised to see that DHD has the worst quality but you can expect some good things from he upcoming official ICS which might provide some improvements to DHD video quality.

Video is good for Desire HD
For me, the video is the best so far for an HD device. To achieve best shot, don't choose widescreen format. Always choose HD (yes it will eat your space faster but the quality is better). After try to plug into a 32" LCD TV, the video was great.

Hmm nice one. Thanks for the Info

is 480 x 800 resolution the best? how about video recording/playback?

From what i understand the nexus shoots video in dvd like quality but can playback in hd 720p. Does the nexus have the best resolution, video recording, and video playback(without researching I feel sure the 5 megapixel camera is easily outdone by other phones) on a u.s. mobile phone? Also, what are the different types of screens and how does amoled compare and why? If nexus isnt the ultimate then what's the brand and specs of a better one? And is it true thy ota's can actually improve visuals on a phone ie making the camera and recorder look better (this isnt a complaint I'm thorough impressed with the nexus visually ) i guess im basically asking for a clinic in mobile phone screens with comparisons to the stunning nexus one. Thanks
The Nexus One is the only WVGA AMOLED on the market *that I can think of* right now. However, the Droid's screen resolution is more suited for 16:9 video playback. 854/480 ~ 16/9 while 800/480 does not. The Nexus One has a better camera, though.

Nexus One vs HD2 (Camera / Video)

I currently have a HD2, on my second one and not having any luck with it, so I'm looking to get a Nexus One instead and have a few questions for the owners. I did some research but couldn't find an answer but my question is, how does the camera on the N1 compare to the HD2? I know the HD2 shoots video in 640 x 480 in VGA @30fps but the N1 does 720 x 480 @20fps? So it shoots in HD? How come the videos ive seen don't look HD or come close to the HD2? Am I missing something? Also are the camera specs the same across the board (pocketpc cameras?). How can you increase the fps on the N1?
Any help would be appreciated.

It's not in HD, not even 720i. I find it decent for shooting friends/funny stuff a it happens. If you want quality video, you may consider Incredible with 8MP camera... although people are saying quality is pretty much the same.
720p HD is 1280×720. Nexus One shoots 720x480, which is the resolution some DVD movies use.

Review and hands-on results with HTC EVO 4G’s 720P HD video camera – Paris in Videos

Yesterday, I shared my Review and hands-on results with HTC EVO 4G’s 8MP Camera – Paris In Photos post and promised you guys the review of EVO's HD video camera separately today.
Well, it is finally up now, after it took me ages to upload from France: Review And Hands-On Results With HTC EVO 4G’s 720P HD Video Camera – Paris In Videos
Enjoy and let me know what you thought!
I think it's not bad. Cuz it is a cell phone, not a camera or camcorder. We can't expect it much more.
I personally think the video isn't too bad....it's the audio that I feel is a real shock....it seriously sounds like an extremely low bitrate.....maybe with a higher class card it would record at a higher rate. If not, I'm sure there will be an update or option to record with less compression.

DHD Video recording sound quality?

Hey guys,what's up?
I am waiting for my DHD and won't stand waiting till I receive it to see for myself!
Now I have a Desire and, although it has a good enough camera, sound in videos recorded by the phone is just TERRIBLE.Is sound recording better with the DHD or is it the same crappy 8KHz amr sound?I would expect much better from such a phone!
Thanks!

i'm waiting for my DHD too, but as i heard SOUND where HTC fail.
That's what I heard too and that's why I want to know!
It is a bit better.
But still not as good as the x10
What they really need to do is to change the format into .mp4 instead of .3gp, because I think that it's the .3gp that is to blame here.
The Galaxy S had an update not too long ago where they enabled videorecording to .mp4 too, so I see no reason why HTC should not do this aswell.
I was really hoping the Desire Hd would have better video recording than the original Desire probably because they called it Desire 'HD' but it would appear not. Looking at the examples on youtube I think the samsung Galaxy S is the best option. The sound is so much clearer. Is there not an App which can take better videos?
Look how the Desire HD Lags when the light levels change. No excuse in this day and age for that.

3GP in Desire HD including mp4 + AAC-isn't bad format but.....
bitrate in 720p is only mono 32kbps-poor,
On dvd 800x480 is much better mono 64kbps like stereo 128kbps(2x64kbps).
that mind Desire HD can record in better bitrate, but need change a little camera softwear,
This isn't camera phone like PIXON or N8 but have best camera in HTC phones!!!
I check with new Nokia C7 8mpx vs Desire HD and Desire HD have a little better quality photos and video, but Nokia record audio in stereo 128kbps
I hope so that update fram HTC can change this or guys from XDA find a way to do that.
So does anyone know of any software to record video in 720p with improved Audio and camera quality?

DEsire HD 1080p

ORiginal desire got the ability to record 720p videos . Even iPhone 3gs which was able to record vga video was able to record in 720p after a work around.will it be possible on desire HD to record full hd 1080p videos with any kind of work around

I'm not a techie but 720p usually means 1280 by 720 pixels where 1080p means 1920 by 1080 pixels. It's quite a jump between those values and even with a workaround that quality could be poop
the sensor won't be better with any change
It will just use more space from the sdcard
The sensor is capable of recording 1080p, but the processor is not capable of encoding in full hd. So no - it's not possible.

i agree, the sensor is the same size so the image will just be stretched and more space used for the same image quality

Nope, if the processor was capable of encoding 1080p, the video won't be just an upsampled version of the 720p video. It would be a true 1080. It's not the sensor alone that's responsible for the video quality - there are the lenses and the hardware encoding. And these (especialy the lenses) have the negative impact on our video recording IMO.
If not full HD then least some workaround to improve the current state. Audio really suck and video I dark most of the times. Really disappointed with the video quality on desire HD

Htc have always had ****ty cameras. If you wanted a camera phone the dhd isn't the best option.

Someone Swyped my idea.
to be able to record in 1080p would be great enhance but I bet changing from stock sd card is required it seems. class to won't do good with 1080p recording. correct me if I'm wrong
I wouldn't have thought a Class 2 card would anywhere near fast enough for full HD.
would you really notice the difference from 720p to 1080p if shot through the same lens?

Not with these lenses
the lens is capable enough to record 1080p,its the processor issue, because the new galaxy s2 has 8mpixel camera aswell and is capable of recording in full hd 1080p,so i was wondering,if i overclock my cpu to 1.2ghz,which i already done, will there be a solution?

Galaxy S2 has a dual core CPU.
We would need that, if we ever manage to capture in 1080p it would just be a slideshow because the CPU cant keep up.
A bit late to this party, the last post was about six months old.
