Review and hands-on results with HTC EVO 4G’s 720P HD video camera – Paris in Videos - EVO 4G General

Yesterday, I shared my Review and hands-on results with HTC EVO 4G’s 8MP Camera – Paris In Photos post and promised you guys the review of EVO's HD video camera separately today.
Well, it is finally up now, after it took me ages to upload from France: Review And Hands-On Results With HTC EVO 4G’s 720P HD Video Camera – Paris In Videos
Enjoy and let me know what you thought!

I think it's not bad. Cuz it is a cell phone, not a camera or camcorder. We can't expect it much more.

I personally think the video isn't too bad....it's the audio that I feel is a real shock....it seriously sounds like an extremely low bitrate.....maybe with a higher class card it would record at a higher rate. If not, I'm sure there will be an update or option to record with less compression.

720p recording and bad audio quality

I know the people here are very talented and I hope someone can help. I had high hopes for the video recording on this phone. When the reviews came out I was very disappointed in both the pic and video quality. Every 8 mega pixel camera phone out there beats it. Even the 1 year old Omnia HD. I can live with the pic quality but the video quality is what really frustrates me. Yea it records in 800x480 but whats the point if its pixelated and washed out. Not to mention the highest frame rate it can go to is 26fps. Ohh and the audio quality is horrendous. When the Omnia HD came out it also suffered from bad audio quality but in a later update they addressed the issue. Most phones coming out now record in AAC audio which the Incredible obviously doesn't. I just wish someone can up the frame rate to 30fps, give the video a higher bitrate, and change the audio to AAC. IF you have spare time can you unlock the 720p recording.

don't forgot 2 play it in 720p HD
Quality looks good. Hope they fix the glitches before the final release.
Yep. If it has the stuttersing, who cares about the quality. Worthless anyway.

Camera comparison with HTC One S

Hello,
here is my test about camera comparison with HTC One S & Powershoot SX 210 IS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkYw8CuT9vc
Specificity:
Desire HD:
720p
8Mpx
1Ghz
One S:
1080p
8Mpx
1.5Ghz
F2.0 28mm lens
PowerShoot SX210IS
720p
14.1Mpx
nice comparison, though i'm not surprised to see that DHD has the worst quality but you can expect some good things from he upcoming official ICS which might provide some improvements to DHD video quality.
Video is good for Desire HD
For me, the video is the best so far for an HD device. To achieve best shot, don't choose widescreen format. Always choose HD (yes it will eat your space faster but the quality is better). After try to plug into a 32" LCD TV, the video was great.
Hmm nice one. Thanks for the Info

CAMERA: Video Quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Note5 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
My recording format of choice is 1080p 60fps, and for some reason, the Note5 struggles with it. Like it'll drop frames randomly while shooting, almost every time I use this format. But 1080p 30fps is fine and so is 4k 30fps. There is a video stabilization option (which strangely isn't turned on by default) that automagically smooths out even the most insanely choppy video (I tried running with the phone), but it only works in 1080p 30fps.
Overall videos work great and come out super clear, but what I have noticed is that when you record in slow motion, the video quality drops significantly.
VIdeo is one of the best. It beats my LG G4 in this comparison test I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SZ7hu_7txg
Good

Have any of you tried high-bitrate recording on this device yet? There's an app that allows you to go up to 200Mbps.
without the external sd feature on this phone like in previous version of note series. i have no confidence using video shooting on this phone beside setting in 1080 uhd and video recording consume a lot of megabytes in the internal memory. significantly slows down the phone.
I don't shoot a lot of video, oh wait that's a lie. UMM I did shoot a lot of video when I first bough my phone. Just lately I have not. I shot a lot of selfie vids and normal vids using messenger, standard text message app and snap chat. The quality looked excellent according to my girlfriend. The vids looked fantastic, good quality on her iphone 6s. I know I should have posted this in the picture quality thread, but it's nice to take photo's while your taking a video. That's pretty much it, the battery did drain a lot from using my phone heavily on recording videos and selfie videos for my girlfriend. But she never complained about the quality, like the picture quality, she was jealous that her iphone 6s quality wasn't as good

Please , do a mini test of the microphone in a loud environment, I´m interesed to Switch to this phone, thanks.
Is it right when you record 4k 60fps it very laggy or stuttery video.....thats because theres isnt any stabiliozer.
I am really thinking buy Oneplus 6 ....but if the 4k 60fps videos are so bad i am off.
Earlier i had a Huawei p10 its was also stuttering video

It uses OIS for 4k60fps according to the AMA
I got oneplus 6 today and recorded my son on 4k 60fps. It is really a great camera. No stutering. Video turned out great
Here's an OIS and EIS explanation on the OP6.....

So you are absolutely not expering any stutering with 4K 60fps like Video below

Its stutering because of OIS. Very weird

I made video 4k 60 fps siting down. My kid moved around and video was fine. No stutering at all.
I 'll make some more testing tomorrow ?
I think this should answer all questions. Only recorded in 1080p 60fps mode, but I was mainly looking for the audio quality. And from my perspective, that time has come where OnePlus 6 can record concerts, may not be perfect, but I can live with it ??? My life is now complete.

I'm gonna have to ask again about the loud environments video recording. The 5t will either distort or lower the volume to the point of being unable to hear anything and then gets loud again. My Moto's never had an issue like that, and nor do, dare I even say, most iPhones.
Really worried about it because I want to upgrade but not if this issue isn't nixed. Ideally, a festival, concert, or nightclub would be great to try this in.
My OnePlus 6 is on the way
See if the camera is better then OnePlus 5?
I tried to capture "Night time" timelapse vs normal video on OP6, but was not happy with the results.
Normal Video is almost dark at times.
Here they are :
The sound during video recording at concerts is superbad. If this is a factor, don't get it.
