[Q] Why (still) no ICS port for Galaxy Y? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

The following devices having quite similar specs like Galaxy Y and they have a ICS port-
Galaxy Fit
Galaxy Mini/Pop
Galaxy Ace
Now there are custom kernels also available for the ease of porting. So are there any devs working on porting ICS to our Galaxy Y?

I have been tracking that too...but why no ICS port? can we take the already released ICS ports of these devices and make changes accordingly to run in Galaxy Y?

Because Galaxy Young is not a high end device that even Samsung won't bother porting ICS to it.
In the mean time, use Chobits Digitalis v1. 6. The best ROM for SGY to date.

how could I expect a cream OS like ics for an entry level device ....?
Sent from my GT-S5360 using XDA

It is possible.... but is going to take time... keep in mind how long this device has been on the market. ICS requires a minimum of basic kernel mods at the worst a complete kernel rewrite. Along with this we will have problems with Sensors camera radio classes etc etc etc. There is much more as well. Relax this will take time.

GT-P1000 is officially supported for CM9, but has no CM7 support. Only unofficial builds. Not that I don't agree with everyone else! ICS for the Y is unlikely and would not run... decently.

its better to have a CM7 for our device trust me

Check whites post, hus cm9 is booting and no more force close apps, didnt have the chance to test it yet, am at school when i checked and saw his update

ICS PORT?? long way 2 go buddy... 1st of all we need those broadcomm drivers... then we will make some progress in cm7.2 and then many devs working on cyanogenmod will become free and since the drivers they have got, an ICS Port would be just a few weeks all thanks to our awesome devs!!!
so chill buddy and just press thanx down there....

I become bored by listening that. Now i hate ICS. I'm happy with my galaxy y without ics.
the custom roms, kernel and some tweaks is enough 4 me & my Y.

Samsung will never make gingerbread for our phone, cause now there is the galaxy ace and the mini. So they won't spend time in developing android 2.3 for us.

why does the coding take so long for samsung? if 2 developers can port CM in some weeks, samsungs coderteam will bring gingerbread in 1 week to g3 .... oO
I think official android 2.3 is impossible for our phones. Samsung hasn't even realised official non-branding froyo for our phones. I5800 has been abandoned by samsung developers.

Because it's not about the ability or competency, it's about business rationale. Samsung's dev team could compile both the kernel and the whole Gingerbread for less than a few hours and polish the bugs in a couple of days - but they don't want to. Then they won't sell you the new Galaxy Ace (or any other 2.3 phone) if you can have a phone with the same capabilities if you install 2.3 on SG3.

Exactly.... and considering the job they did for our so called official builds it's better they don't.... i hate the samsung modifications to stock Android anyways....... and i really think that marcellusbe will do a way better job and will actually "fix" the found bugs!
Official/Unofficial doesnt matters. Its the same Gingerbread.
Official Gingerbread from samsung (for galaxy 3) < Gingerbread For galaxy 3 from Marcellusbe! Just wait a bit

Exactly..... gingerbread from marcellusbe will be an actual stock AOSP.... and it's way better!
Yep...samsung give rom's with craprware...and useless software...marcellusbe will give us a firmware really optimized for our phone
I surely do hope they will not release gingerbread. They already gave us froyo which is good for a budget phone like ours is. If they start supporting us forever the sales for i5800 would turn from a profit to loss, and that's not the point of business

well there is always a chance, tht when marcell ends his cm7 our devs will try with other aosp
but it would be nice to get official support from miui devs for our phone
what i wish will happen: complete CM7, complete GB AOSP, complete CM9, complete ICS AOSP, MIUI port by marcellusbe xD this would be so cool. I would actually be happy to see that. I think we will have something similar by the start of summer. I hope...
well, if marcellusbe finish his AOSP, we will probably have miui port by some devs, coz the biggest problem is to get AOSP working anything else will be a childs play for them

I'm a moderator at AllianceROM (formerly DarkyROM) and I just can't wait until the team develops a sammy ROM for the S3.
I think a CM ROM will not benefit the S3 as it will lose a lot of features which are situated with ****wiz (touchwiz). I think normal sammy ROM's will be more popular with the S3

i think you posted in the wrong section dude,
this goes to FAQ in general section
but anyways,
samsung will never "officially" release ICS for SGY
we have to develop from source to work with SGY
which will never happen, i think
Its a wrong section ,but galaxy y has an chance of getting ICS because galaxy mini was not expected to get GB update ,but it got very late and maybe it depends upon the CM9 too where you guys don't have it
Sorry, but its never gonna happen, if samsung didnt make ics for gio and ace then its impossible for the y to have it

Best we can hope for is a stable Cyanogen.
