expandable memory and removable battery or no?

Despite it not being quadcore doesn't the snapdragon s4 still beat out the tegra 3?
Either way it's going to be a tough choice when my upgrade comes around. The verge review of The One X said the display was the best they'd ever seen. Since they usually lean towards the iPhone in every phone comparison I'll take that as the phone is nearly flawless.
Galaxy SIII is going to have to be pretty awesome to trump this imo.

Can you add this to the OP Big Goron

Expandable memory yes, removable battery no. The battery, however, still packs a 2000 mAh battery; it should easily get you through the day (considering the One X has an 1800 mAh battery, and it gets through the day easily).

Sort of on-topic: Can someone explain why a removable battery is so important to some people. I don't get it. The comments on a lot of the reviews for the one x and inevitably the announcements of this phone are like:
"NO [email protected]!??! PASS! POS FONE"
I seriously don't understand why it's important. I could not care less if I dedicated the rest of my life to caring less about it.

I guess people want to be able to switch batteries on the go, or just have an option of purchasing a better/cheaper battery than the one given.

Thanks, that explains the more intelligible comments I was reading.

The comments on engadget are ridiculous!
They're complaining on the phone not being able to be in potrait when the kickstand is being used. How logical would it be to use a phone in landscape position, in potrait mode C'mon.

1. Batteries wear out over time, may want to replace it if you plan on keeping the phone for a long time.
2. You're going to be out all day and can carry a spare and not worry about micromanaging your battery life all day. (I've got 3 for the Epic)
3. You can use a better battery of the same form factor if one becomes available, like all the OG Epic users with the 1800mAh from the touch.

Yeah I get that. I think it's a nice feature to have but I won't take a phone I like less just because I can remove the battery.

No brand loyalty for me! I will consider this phone as one of my upgrade options that I have been sitting on. I like the specs and looks.

Are you guys crazy? They took a truly amazing phone design (one x) and butchered it to all hell. Now it looks just like the other evo phones (i. E. Dated). Yes the guts are awesome but half of what made the phone so nice was the physical design. So sad. Why can't sprint leave things alone when it comes to these matters. We don't have to look any further than our own phones to get another example of completely changing an already great phone.

Why do they do this?

Ok we live in an age where our phones can pretty much do anything we need on a fly but for the life of me I just don't understand why they come with only a 1500 battery. Is there a reason why they can't give us a 3000 battery or better and still have the same phycial size of a 1500 battery.

Why doesn't my car get 300miles to the gallon?!
Basically, it's physics and safety. A LiPo battery would provide more storage, however they can explode when damaged or old. Youtube showcases quite a few examples. Personally, I think Apple is crazy for using them in the iPhone 4. I'm sure they have taken reasonable precautions, but I can't help imagining the thing going off in some poor man's pants!

Yea, I dont understand why they cant just create a battery that isn't EXACTLY rectangular, so that it could conform to the entire back of a phone.. Battery life would be gigantic.

Take our phone for example. If the stock battery was 2mm thicker, it would create a cavity just above where the battery sticks out from where it could extend into right up until the camera lens.
Battery would look like this:
_________________________
________________________
__________
__________
Want that. For example, with the extended battery I have, it could literally be at least double the capacity it is now without needing a new back cover, if it really filled up every mm of the back cover.

There are prevailing techs to increase battery life if you read Engadget...but they are still in test phase..but I will say this...the EVO/TP2 battery is practically 1.5x-2x the size of our battery..so I dont at least see why they can't put a 2250mah-3000mah battery thats the size of the TP2 battery..but I guess its because we are all (or at least majority) so obsessed with thinness...
What they can also make is a back cover thats a battery >.>..I mean there is no rule that it has to be square...if they do that they can easily fit 3000-4000mah without sacrificing too much depth...

the only real problem with the lipos that i have seen with my radio control cars is that you cant let them go dead or they will not charge again, and thats about it. I know theres more to it than JUST that, like they can explode somehow but thats what i have experienced.
People don't seem to mind the weight of the Evo which is noticeably heavier than our Epics. I wouldn't mind the weight if it DOUBLED my battery life.

The dev is true but having both an iPhone4 and Nexus S in the house (And galaxy tab 8.9, iPad 2, HTC Sensation and One X) I can be pretty certain that you can use the iPhone a LOT more than the Nexus between charges.
The Nexus got massive improvements with 4.x though, that must be said.
Hey, am I the only one who saw the "iPhone has been plugged in since the last full charge" message??
Doesn't this invalidate the comparation?
You can hate on apple all you want people but stop with the fanboy nonsense.
It is a fact that the iPhone/ios gets far better battery life then nexus s/ android period. No if ands or butts about it.
What's next ? Blackberrys don't really have better battery life ?

And don't forget about set up . As I learned from skunkape and john Corleone from the 4g thread , set up goes a long way. These guys get close to a day and sometimes more with 4-6 hours screen on time. I get 13-18 hours with a little less screen on time. Many screen shots were provided to reflect this . To me , none of the phones are bad . Its all in what you like.

I'm turned off by the size, and TouchWiz. So much so that I didn't regret springing for the One S after seeing it. But not having a removable battery is really bugging me, so I'm considering it for the first time. Not to mention HTC pulled a fast one about unlocking the bootloader. Sure, they'll unlock it, but you still have S-on, and they won't change that. That's a huge advantage to the Samsungs. They don't lock anything. Might give the HOS to the wife if I can bring myself to get the GS3...but the size really bugs me. I need to see it in person to decide.

The size really won't get less. I honestly hope it does not get bigger than this, because after this it should just be classified as something along the lines of the Galaxy Note, which is huge for a phone.
Touchwiz, I don't get why people hate it so much, is it just that they hate the manufacturer modifying the look, or is it just touchwiz?
I have loved Touchwiz since the first day. Their music app is superior and has more eye candy than any other music player I've seen (not too many options like poweramp etc. though) I do agree they theme it too much, but after all it is all eyecandy and don't tell me that once your on XDA that you won't flash a custom rom on your phone.
Samsung phones are where all the developers flock. You can call me a Samsung fanboy
Just curious, how big is the Htc One S?
Mind taking a pic of the phone with your hand next to it or something like that? I thought GS3 and the one series were all the same size.
The One X is close to the GS3, the S is just a little longer/taller than the Vibrant, 1/4" maybe, and damn near almost identical in width. And just a c-hair thinner. I'll post some photos tomorrow (technically today, I guess ).
Btw, your cwm flashable that's on the dl worked perfectly, thanks . 48gb never felt so free.
Now ask yourself, did I really just read that? Yes you did.
Personally I think this phone is great looks amazing will most likely perform great. I'd go with the white one I think the color blue they picked gives it that prepaid phone look

Oh yeah, what I don't like about TouchWiz is the candy-like backgrounds on the icons, and it tries too hard to be iOS. There's some advantages, but for the most part I feel its mostly fluff wasting valuable resources. ICS Holo theme is gorgeous, no need to play with it, unless you improve upon it with tweaks like Team Kang did with AOKP.

I agree, for some it may be a bit "cartoon" type of look, but its just hurtful to say it looks anything like iOS
Showing them together with the GS's app drawer open would be more representative of what I'm taking about. Obviously iOS on the iPhone doesn't have a "desk top" home; that would be to handy and admitting Android is better. Wait, they admitted that when they put a status bar in that could be pulled down for notifications.
I don't like the dock layout in TouchWiz, or that it can't be modified (maybe changed this time?), and the app drawer looks like a clown puked up a bunch of candy, just like the iPhone. But like you said, stock ROM doesn't have much chance of staying on the thing anyway. So it boils down to whether I can fit it in my pocket, and don't look like an idiot holding a VCR to my face when making calls (sorry Note users, I'm looking at you). And the cherry on top would be if app devs started seriously optimizing for quad core CPUs before the GS4 drops in 6 months.

There is no reason for me to return this device. I've been an Android fan since the T-Mobile G1 came out and this is the first phone that I could see as being a true "iPhone killer". This phone is win.
no lol this is the best phone on the market right now
you can return to me , dont mind another sgs3
Would never return mine lol. Totally met expectations. All it needs to be a near perfect phone is better low light camera quality.
Did you even use your S3? xda is no "herp derp imma post anythin' that comes to ma mind" forum!
I love everything on my S3 btw, especially those jealous iFag looks.

XDA is a forum, and in the General Questions section it actually is a "I'ma post anything that comes to mind," as long as it's a question that pertains to category (in this case Samsung Galaxy S3). It's a great question that cuts through initial hype of the phone and asks users if after using it for a bit it still holds up to all that hype.
Again, the S3 is fantastic.
Agreed. Thus thread helped me decide to pre order one. So thank you for posting it.

Damn right. Seriously I'm thinking about it. I not sure if the buttons make sense. They are kind of annoying. May have to go back to good one gnex

Lol, the buttons certainly are... different... But the phone itself is a powerhouse. I've used the T-Mobile G1, the T-Mobile myTouch, the myTouch Slide, the Galaxy S, the Galaxy SII, the HTC Sensation 4G, and the Droid. This phone beats every other Android phone I've used, hands down. It's phenomenal.

, yes the phone is a powerhouse but the buttons on here really mess up the experience. Who makes the phone with a button I thought it was gonna work out great but is annoying now

bump ^^this is a great question, i find more often then not that things tend to have an allure from the outside looking in that just isn't the same once you are on the inside, but people tend to hide their disappointment from the masses due to the fact that they spent the last 2 months harping on about it's awesomeness.
You definitely have to get used to them. I'd suggest finding a friend that has one and play around with it for ten minutes or so. If it's still not to your liking then wait for another powerhouse phone to come out (there should be a few more this year) and hopefully that'll be what you're looking for. If you're able to get used to the buttons it really is a magnificent looking device. Good luck either way.
Here are some battery stats from my first day. I hope they get better. This is with all radios on syncing everything.

Well then I'm actually not able to differentiate between the Q&A and the General forum.. ^^

People ask questions in the general forum all the time. The only way I've been able to draw a distinction is the Q&A questions are almost always matter-of-fact. You ask "How do you do..." or "Does this phone have..." etc. I don't know if that's the way things are supposed to be, but its a trend I've noticed.
My GS3, never! The screen is great, the phone is responsive. TouchWiz, while maybe not as good as stock (though to be honest I actually think its launcher is nicer than stock; messaging etc. definitely not) brings lots of useful extra features. And best of all, I can use it for AGGGGGGES.
Regarding the buttons, I like the reassurance of having the buttons off-screen. The home button can be felt, and just tapping above the bottom edges of the phone will register as the other two, so you don't have to look down to make sure you don't miss.
nah i love my s3 and especially after using the s2 and smashing the screen i was using a $20 phone waiting for the s3 to come out and its all i hoped for.

Galaxy S4 or HTC One?

Android Headlines thinks that the Galaxy S4 is better, do you agree?
http://androidheadlines.com/2013/03/android-phone-wars-samsung-galaxy-s4-vs-htc-one.html
Comparison threads are not allowed on XDA so this thread will probably get closed pretty quickly.
Plus there's already a thread for this

I just cant see how anyone could disagree.
No removable battery with less mAh
No MicroSD card
No Hard Home button
Smaller screen
And speaking of screen, Ill always prefer amoled, the black is too amazing on an amoled phone.

HTC One = build quality.
S4 = specs and features.
And: comparison threads are NOT allowed. Sorry.

The sad truth is these threads are not on the htc one forums. They are just on the s4 forums. I'm not a Samsung hater but about every tech magazine will disagree with your statement. Expandable memory and removable battery I had on my htc rezound. I still have it but don't use it and those features would not in any way determine that I would continue to use it. Samsung will still sell a zillion s4s though.

I meant that the processor can clock higher and all of the gimmicky s features. Consumers eat that s#!t up.
And theses posts are not on the one forums because they have moderators and comparison threads are NOT allowed.

No they have not shown up. They would still show after they were locked. And I'm no fanboy I've been criticizing htc all day for their botched launch. I have never seen a phone reviewed as positively as the one.
The thing is the design is that good. When you have apple fanboys falling all over it than you know they have done something original.

I have two activated smartphones and three tablets. I'm not the typical user. But I get the importance of these features. I'm just saying for me it would be no reason not to get a cool new phone.

Base on the OP article - http://androidheadlines.com/2013/03/android-phone-wars-samsung-galaxy-s4-vs-htc-one.html
Votes tell the story, which was better.

Erh no, it tells what people THINK it better. Big difference. And this is only based on specs paper. When it's time to buy one we'll see the real numbers.

ha ha No they don't pay me. I just like it when facts are straights. I used to teach statistic so I know what a vote from the public means.
BTW: I came to a S4 forum only to find a bunch of HTC fans(not pointing anyone) trashing and trolling all over the place. I can give the credit that HTC one deserve why can't HTC people do the same thing with the S4? If people were objective in their comments I wouldn't have to rectify the facts all the time.

Be in reality, Samsung great sales not means it was the best, Samsung success because of Samsung throwing 400m++ last year on marketing - advertising. hehe....
I think, look doesn't always welcome. Yes i do agree that Samsung never works over Looks but you can compare with hardware also.
HTC one has given marvelous look & Ultra pixel camera, but what about other features..?
BTW who has seen HTC One or Galaxy 4 in hand..?? I think no one..?? ( Its my assumption )
