I'm turned off by the size, and TouchWiz. So much so that I didn't regret springing for the One S after seeing it. But not having a removable battery is really bugging me, so I'm considering it for the first time. Not to mention HTC pulled a fast one about unlocking the bootloader. Sure, they'll unlock it, but you still have S-on, and they won't change that. That's a huge advantage to the Samsungs. They don't lock anything. Might give the HOS to the wife if I can bring myself to get the GS3...but the size really bugs me. I need to see it in person to decide.

The size really won't get less. I honestly hope it does not get bigger than this, because after this it should just be classified as something along the lines of the Galaxy Note, which is huge for a phone.
Touchwiz, I don't get why people hate it so much, is it just that they hate the manufacturer modifying the look, or is it just touchwiz?
I have loved Touchwiz since the first day. Their music app is superior and has more eye candy than any other music player I've seen (not too many options like poweramp etc. though) I do agree they theme it too much, but after all it is all eyecandy and don't tell me that once your on XDA that you won't flash a custom rom on your phone.
Samsung phones are where all the developers flock. You can call me a Samsung fanboy
Just curious, how big is the Htc One S?
Mind taking a pic of the phone with your hand next to it or something like that? I thought GS3 and the one series were all the same size.

The One X is close to the GS3, the S is just a little longer/taller than the Vibrant, 1/4" maybe, and damn near almost identical in width. And just a c-hair thinner. I'll post some photos tomorrow (technically today, I guess ).
Btw, your cwm flashable that's on the dl worked perfectly, thanks . 48gb never felt so free.
Now ask yourself, did I really just read that? Yes you did.

Personally I think this phone is great looks amazing will most likely perform great. I'd go with the white one I think the color blue they picked gives it that prepaid phone look

Oh yeah, what I don't like about TouchWiz is the candy-like backgrounds on the icons, and it tries too hard to be iOS. There's some advantages, but for the most part I feel its mostly fluff wasting valuable resources. ICS Holo theme is gorgeous, no need to play with it, unless you improve upon it with tweaks like Team Kang did with AOKP.

I agree, for some it may be a bit "cartoon" type of look, but its just hurtful to say it looks anything like iOS

Showing them together with the GS's app drawer open would be more representative of what I'm taking about. Obviously iOS on the iPhone doesn't have a "desk top" home; that would be to handy and admitting Android is better. Wait, they admitted that when they put a status bar in that could be pulled down for notifications.
I don't like the dock layout in TouchWiz, or that it can't be modified (maybe changed this time?), and the app drawer looks like a clown puked up a bunch of candy, just like the iPhone. But like you said, stock ROM doesn't have much chance of staying on the thing anyway. So it boils down to whether I can fit it in my pocket, and don't look like an idiot holding a VCR to my face when making calls (sorry Note users, I'm looking at you). And the cherry on top would be if app devs started seriously optimizing for quad core CPUs before the GS4 drops in 6 months.

[Port] New SDK? NO PROBLEM

There still is hope for a viable honeycomb port for our phones.

Some people enjoy having an extremely large resolution, like me for instance. I would love to see this fully functional, as I usually change my density to a rather large resolution so as to make things smaller and have more screen space.
I'm a rom-whore, and I'm damn proud of it
If you read my threads and ask the devs, you will find that I set up bounties, and donate unlike most freeloaders on these forums. And I help some devs test their roms/kernels. My opinion is based on a desire to have our phone be a really cool dev platform but not go in directions where devs try their best to please 4 or 5 ill informed people and then give up. That would just lead to disenchanted devs. I don't think most of us want that...
By the way, I have an iphone, and will be getting a webOs tablet too. You know why? Because its pointless to be faithful to one thing when you can learn from many... Monogamy is meant to be practiced with a spouse, not a gadget... I'm not a fan of any. Just a shameless user of all.
Edit: and I have a galaxy tab

Adjusting the DPI is a personal preference and doesn't change the overall resolution. In my opinion our screens don't really benefit it because the overall size and resolution is small.
A device like the Tab which is scaled like a cellphone screen benefits from the DPI adjustment since it has a much greater screen resolution.
Dell Streak is a fine example of why DPI adjustment isn't needed. Things just aren't right because of the 480x800 screen.

I know this is kind of unrelated to the Evo threads but. ;)

The original Droid had mostly stock Android but Google didn't handle the updates. As far as I know, the N1 and Nexus S are the only commercial phones to get official updates from Google. Motorola did do an incredibly good job at keeping the original Droid up to date though.

I liked it and so far I'm liking honeycomb! Although I'm suprised you can do a lot on the phone without leaving the homescreen, like....it its pretty heavy but feels really sturdy I don't like the wake/ sleep button. Atrix likely first AND last Andriod phone with Fingerprint Sensor

Apple signs agreement to buy Authentec who made fingerprint sensors for the Atrix.
Reading between the lines, iDevices will now get fingerprint readers and Android devices will not have Authentec as a supplier anymore.
Make the most of the one and only Android device with fingerprint reader for we may never see another one - there are not a whole lot of fingerprint sensor suppliers out there.
Hope I am proved wrong, but this is how it looks like now.
http://allthingsd.com/20120727/apple-acquires-fingerprint-security-company-authentec-for-356-million/
Seems like Motorola already gave up with fingerprint unlock way earlier. None of the other Atrixes have fingerprint scanners, which is the most defining feature of the original Atrix.

Indeed. The iPhone 6 ad will say something like this:
"And here it IS! The super INNOVATIVE, ORIGINAL, THE ONE AND ONLY, THE FIRST EVER PHONE with FINGERPRINT SCANNER! Get one before they run out! Starting at $400!"
And the iOS conference will start something like this:
"So yeah. um, we felt that the iPhone needed some enhanced security, because you store there, um, your personal stuff, so, um, we started thinking and thinking, and analyzing our data, and then it hit us in the head! was just like newton's apple! We were needing some advanced, futuristic, original, awesome and usefull way to protect the device data, and thats how we reached the all new original idea of a fingerprint scanner! Until the bubble bursts...
The iPod bubble has already burst, and no one knows for sure how long the iPhone/iPad bubble will last. But if innovation is any indication, they haven't really done anything spectacular since 2010 and seem to start to prepare themselves to be reborn as a law firm...
But then again, with over $100B in the bank, I guess they can survive for years without selling anything, unlike that other smartphone vendor that also had done nothing for years but rehash their old devices in new skin.
I wonder if Motorola had patented the fingerprint unlocking method. If they did, Google and Motorola can give Apple a bit of their own medicine.

BEFORE YOU BUY THE PHOTON (Nexus Slider)...

So, here we all are. Looking for the next big slider phone to move to. The Photon comes along and while some specs are great, overall most people hate the fact that the SIM is locked and that the battery is not removable. Some of us, maybe all, would probably settle for it, because the idea is that another slider will not come for a long period of time. HOWEVER, I just unearthed this article and honestly, I would recommend giving it a month before we all jump ship and buy into the Photon, if that is your plan at least.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/05/01/google-patent-application-hints-at-nexus-slider/
Although this is NOT a confirmation, it is still in the realm of possibility. It is worth waiting for, before we lock ourselves onto the Photon for 2 years.
Any thoughts/comments/info?
There is some truth to Google bringing out a Nexus slider soon. Google hired the G1 designer duo, they also came up with the design for the Xbox360.
NICE!!!!!! I just sprouted a tremendous woody!!!!
Highly doubtful. I wouldn't hold my breathe. The only logical choice right now for keyboard lovers is the photon. Especially since Motorola released something similar to HTCdev to unlock the boot loader.

My thinking on the Q, is will there be development, more to the point, will it get picked up by CM
A Nexus device will get dev support almost by default.
But the Epic taught me to be careful about my choice in phones, as lack of great development can drop a phone from awesome, to dam, wish I could get that mod.
Those who got the Epic on release day, waited for CM acceptance on the Epic, will understand why I'm a bit gun shy about one-off devices

I hope not. I'd hope it wouldn't be A9 at the very least. Krait or A15 are the high end.
That's it. I'm waiting. The PhotonQ is appealing to me, but I will wait to see if this pans out before I jump.
Now, should we start a pool on how long it will take Kenny to close this thread?

Just by looking at the keyboard I can tell that this isnt a Nexus Slider. Or at least not one that intends on being a phone.
To Heck With That Darn Photon ( seriously ? I'd rather hang on to my EPIC ... :good: ) THIS >>> http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/06/21/iphone-5-features-what-expect-this-fall/ <<< is the REAL winner on that page ...
P.S. = I am NOT about to lay down any bets on that NFNM ( he turns from Good Spidy to Bad Spidy really fast sometimes ... LOL = I Kid , I Kid !!! )

Its all about they keyboard layout. It doesn't match up with something that would create ease of use. This looks like a prototype for a Phablet and or Tablet.

Galaxy S4 or HTC One?

Android Headlines thinks that the Galaxy S4 is better, do you agree?

Comparison threads are not allowed on XDA so this thread will probably get closed pretty quickly.
Plus there's already a thread for this

I just cant see how anyone could disagree.
No removable battery with less mAh
No MicroSD card
No Hard Home button
Smaller screen
And speaking of screen, Ill always prefer amoled, the black is too amazing on an amoled phone.

HTC One = build quality.
S4 = specs and features.
And: comparison threads are NOT allowed. Sorry.

The sad truth is these threads are not on the htc one forums. They are just on the s4 forums. I'm not a Samsung hater but about every tech magazine will disagree with your statement. Expandable memory and removable battery I had on my htc rezound. I still have it but don't use it and those features would not in any way determine that I would continue to use it. Samsung will still sell a zillion s4s though.

I meant that the processor can clock higher and all of the gimmicky s features. Consumers eat that s#!t up.
And theses posts are not on the one forums because they have moderators and comparison threads are NOT allowed.

No they have not shown up. They would still show after they were locked. And I'm no fanboy I've been criticizing htc all day for their botched launch. I have never seen a phone reviewed as positively as the one.
The thing is the design is that good. When you have apple fanboys falling all over it than you know they have done something original.

I have two activated smartphones and three tablets. I'm not the typical user. But I get the importance of these features. I'm just saying for me it would be no reason not to get a cool new phone.

Erh no, it tells what people THINK it better. Big difference. And this is only based on specs paper. When it's time to buy one we'll see the real numbers.

ha ha No they don't pay me. I just like it when facts are straights. I used to teach statistic so I know what a vote from the public means.
BTW: I came to a S4 forum only to find a bunch of HTC fans(not pointing anyone) trashing and trolling all over the place. I can give the credit that HTC one deserve why can't HTC people do the same thing with the S4? If people were objective in their comments I wouldn't have to rectify the facts all the time.

Be in reality, Samsung great sales not means it was the best, Samsung success because of Samsung throwing 400m++ last year on marketing - advertising. hehe....
I think, look doesn't always welcome. Yes i do agree that Samsung never works over Looks but you can compare with hardware also.
HTC one has given marvelous look & Ultra pixel camera, but what about other features..?
BTW who has seen HTC One or Galaxy 4 in hand..?? I think no one..?? ( Its my assumption )
