[Q] can not enable usb connection - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed CM7.1 on my Nook Color and can not enable usb so I can load files from my PC to the nook. I have read that there should be a prompt to enable the USB at the bottom of the screen but I don't see any prompt. Did something get lost during the installation?

Get Wifi File Explorer Pro. It's quicker, allows full browsing on your computer to access files for upload AND it lets you download everything from your NC which can be a godsend when trouble strikes. And you will not have any of those persistent problems using USB connexion.

Using your phone as a modem (tethering)
Get online with your notebook or desktop computer at any time, using your phone’s data connection.
You need your SIM card inserted on your phone to use the data connection. To find out how to set up and use the data connection, see Data connection.
Before you can use your phone as a modem, be sure to copy first HTCDriver.exe from your phone’s microSD card to your computer. To find out how to copy, see Copying files to or from the storage card. Double-click this file and follow the onscreen instructions to install the modem driver on your computer.
Make sure your phone’s data connection is turned on. See Data connection to learn how to turn on the phone’s data connection.
Connect the phone to the computer using the provided USB cable.
On the Connect to PC screen, select Internet sharing, and then tap Done.

Just as nice additional information for anybody encountering this thread from a search: tethering works out of the box on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx).
but it doesn't work at all with ubuntu 10.10 it did work on 10.04, .. then i installed backports and it worked on 10.10 however ubuntu did an other kernel upgrade and it didn't work anymore.

How come I cannot connect to my PC using the USB?

I currently have Froyo 2.2 on my HD2 and I am having fun with it.
However, I whenever I connect the phone to my PC using the USB connection, I can never see my phone connect to the PC.
I go to my computer and I don't see any new drive. I can easily do this with WinMo 6.5.
I need to transfer files from my computer to my phone but I cannot make the connection. Please help.
Is there some time of setting that I have to do?
I went to setting -->> Connect to PC --->> Default connection type --->> and I chose Disk Drive but it still does not work.
The options that I have are:
Charge Only
HTC Sync
Disk Drive
USB Tethering
I think I tried all 4 of the options but I still cannot connect my phone to my PC using the USB cable.
Please help.

you can go to market and search for this app(automount),then set it to auto mount when USB connected...then you should see your device on your PC...but you are unable to direct copy files to the device,it'll corrupt...
The most reliable way to copy file from pc to android now is install this software...Android explorer which allows drag and drop...everything...click here
download and install it...hey mate, next time please don't create a thread because of 1 question, try to ask in the thread of your build or search...
Cheers..that definitely will help you..

[Q] File transfer workaround

I'm wondering what others file transfer workaround is.
For larger movie files (1-2GB), I have been uploading one by one to Dropbox, then downloading onto my tab. But this is awfully time consuming.
Anyone have a better workaround until File Transfer recognizes the 10.1?
I'm really confused by all these threads about file transfer not working
I have had no problems whatsoever
is it because you are using a mac?
i have file transfer problems, too. trying to transfer a huge file / large number of files via usb and windows file explorer just aborts the transfer after a few minutes without any error message.
currently im using "wifi explorer" fpr transmitting files to my tablet. it's a cool app i've already been using on my android phone, too. with this tool you can access your tablet/phone with a browser (web-interface), once you've started wifi explorer and you're connected to your wifi.
It's not so much so a specifically Mac issue or Windows machine issue, apparently quite a few of the IO tabs just simply cannot or won't be recognized by either OS. I know of this first hand cuz neither my Mac nor Windows 7 ultimate machines see my tab.
Uplinked through my mind
I found out that the computer won't pick up your device if USB Debugging mode is on. After I disabled that and had the KIES drivers installed, Windows picked up the device without any problems.

Cannot transfer files with MTP / Device not viewable in Windows Explorer

When I connect my Nexus 7 to my Windows XP (SP3) PC via USB, it's obvious the computer recognizes it and it tries to install ADB drivers. Whether I choose to install those drivers or not, I still can't locate my device in the Windows Explorer Tree. I checked Disk Management for the hell of it and nothing but my PC's harddrives were there. There's an attempt to install drivers for "MTP" but that fails and I'm pretty sure that's the cause; however, I'm unable to replicate it, even as I uninstall/reinstall applicable drivers from the device manager the MTP failure never happens anymore. I did some googling and found a thread with someone who had a similiar experience. In turn, I downloaded https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd to try a different set of drivers. Same problem. Driver install is fine for ADB, but still unable to see my device in Windows Explorer. I'm able to successfully connect the device to the PC with PTP for the camera. I can access DCIM and cache which can serve as a work around, but I'm hoping you can provide any ideas you might have. Thank you!
edit - ***resolution***: Ok, I figured it out...I had to disable USB debugging. I don't know if this helped either, but I installed these drivers as an alternative to the drivers that were originally installed: https://www.box.com/s/2c25e8bc42ecce400afd
While connected to PC, I switched to PTP mode because I was about to give up and just use that
I then disabled usb debugging and switched back to MTP at which point the drivers successfully installed and I could now view my device in Windows Explorer. I also believe downloading the drivers in the link above helped since the first crack I took at this was unsuccessful with existing drivers.
install pdanet on pc and it will install drivers for u so it will be recognized

Been battling with this on my XP machine since yesterday. I couldn't even get debugging to work until I installed NakedDriver. And even still, there seems to be no way to get MTP to work without turning debugging off. On my Win7 machine everything worked perfectly, both ADB and MTP, right out of the box. I have the Galaxy Nexus drivers installed on both machines (which I've read are compatible with the N7). I also have the latest version of Windows Media Player (I've read that some older versions have issues with MTP). Is anyone else able to run ADB and MTP on XP?
*edit*
A: Does PDAnet let you use MTP and ADB simultaneously? Because I really don't want to install it if I don't have to. I got rid of it ages ago (too many things starting up at boot time).
B: I have a Galaxy Nexus also, and I have no issues on the XP box.
I wouldn't bother with MTP, it's not always showing the contents of the internal storage properly when viewed in Windows Explorer.
Earlier today when I was trying to set up a backup profile for it, it didn't copy all the files off. On closer inspection I found folders like TitaniumBackup to be completely empty, which is not true according to ES File Explorer on the tablet.
I tried connecting MTP again, with USB Debugging on and off but this made no difference. Also I'm only seeing the Notifications folder instead of 36 folders on the internal storage now, really random how it's working.
asus site now has a usb driver for N7
try that

Updated with ASUS drivers, still doesn't view internal storage fully.

Same here. No change with the Asus drivers. Still can't use MTP when ADB is turned on.
poo. how do I transfer my audiobooks to this stupid device without working drivers?
1. Please disconnect Nexus7
2. Remove drivers on PC.
3. Toggle ON : Settings->Wireless&Networkings->More->NFC.
4. Re-connect device
Good luck !

1. Uncheck MTP, check the one next to it (Camera)
2. Unplug USB
3. Turn off USB Debugging (Uncheck it)
4. Plug in USB
5. Should say connected as camera, then a new window will pop-up allowing you to see your files.
Tell me if it works!
im having trouble too, is there any way to make the device to be recognised as a flash drive?

Same observation here (a few months later) on stock Android 4.1.1 rooted.
It seems that new files in the internal memory remain invisible for a long time, but so far they have become visible eventually, sometimes a day or two later. I have no clue what could possibly cause this, and I have not found any trick or workaround that makes them visible, not even rebooting. Any hint is welcome.

Didn't work. Just shows up as a camera with the limited folder access one would expect.
Workaround
I now use the following workaround.
Install SDrescan from Google Play.
Run it.
If you already had your phone connected to a computer as a media device (MTP) and are watching the contents of your SD card or internal memory in Windows Explorer, press F5 to refresh your view. If not, connect it now.
I'd be curious whether this works for you as well. If it does, press the THANKS button below.
Same issue with an old ibm x40 udated to windows xp pro SP3.
I've installed mtp driver, without success
I've "tried" to install asus driver, without success
I've tried to do as above with the help of the nexus toolkit, without success.
Everytime, the laptop recognize the device as android ADB interface.
Someone could help me?
Thank you in advance

[Mysteriously solved] Can't transfer files to/from internal storage via USB

Hello. Today I wanted to transfer a movie from my PC to my N7 aaaand... something has happened.
When I go to my internal storage on my PC it doesn't show the blue bar below the name that tells how much free space I have: http://i.imgur.com/kOSjhb3.jpg
When I try to copy a file from the internal storage to the PC it says "Undefined error"
http://i.imgur.com/AZrgG8Y.jpg
And when I try to copy a file from the PC to the internal storage it shows that it's copying but the bar doesn't move and after 5-10 mins it says "The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
http://imgur.com/OuthPXg (this pic was taken from Google images, I think the person who captured it had the same problem :cyclops
I tried with USB debugging on and off, redownloading and reinstalling drivers, rebooting - nothing.
I did a clean install with the Android 4.3 factory image a couple of days ago but I don't see how that can be a problem because yesterday I copied a bunch of avi. files to my tablet and today it just doesn't want to do that. *sigh* technology...
Have you tried using ADB to push or pull?
I have problems copying only if I'm not using the original N7 cable. Using the original cable, I get fast, reliable read/write throughput between my N7 and pc. I have one 3rd party cable that when I use it to copy from pc to N7 the 'copying' window comes up, but doesn't show the file copying and eventually hangs, but the file does copy and appears on the N7.
