Tmobile Upgrade - Networking

I upgraded both lines within my family plan in February. Got the black GS2 for me, the white for my wife. Long story short, they had to send three phones because they got the color wrong.
I sent the wrong phone back (was charged full value) and worked with customer service to have this removed and my account credited. At some point, something got changed on my account as I now show that I am full upgrade eligible according to the TMO website.
Would definitely like to get one of the new beasts on the horizon, especially if I have an upgrade now instead of 2013.
My question is, if I use this "upgrade" do you think they will catch the mistake and charge me full value for the new phone at a later date?

I don't think they will catch you. T-Mobile has a bunch of stuff going on and have so many customers that that person you talked to doesn't even care anymore.

Doubt they catch you and you can always argue that you had were in fact eligible for an upgrade

i dont think they will catch you. they screwed up on my account also. i changed my number and after i did that it said i was able to upgrade with a full 2 year discount and i knew mine wasnt due till 2013 (with my old number) so i went and bought my black gs2 at newegg and it said carrier approved and they sent me my phone lol.. only paid 219 out the door. lol

Yeah, got my GS2 at a kick-ass price. Paid just $137 from the retention department and they gave me a buy one get one free deal. Hard to beat 2 phones for $137.
Sweet. Got my eye on either the GS3 or HTC One-S. I will just keep my GS2 for modding and deving.
Hopefully the next Nexus will come back to T-Mo. If it does, I may just hold out for it.

nice, so im assuming it was like $120 or something then plus tax?
sounds about right, i read up on others getting credit back too lol.
But yeah, just remember that everything they do to your account is noted somewhere in your account. However it is highly doubtful that they actually look WHEN your last upgrade was and such. It is more likely that they just click upgrade or whatever and see if you're eligible. Because... why the hell are they gonna make a system where they make the reps backtrack the date and calculate when you're eligible? lol

ATT Pure gone?

Is the ATT Pure gone? I am looking to add a line to my plan, and cannot find them anywhere. ATT has them on the website, but only refurbs and only for new customers (free). Amazon has them online for new accounts and upgrades, but they don't do add a line transactions.
Am I missing something? Is there a replacement for this phone coming out? My wife likes the Tilt 2 that I just got, but thought the physical keyboard was not needed... that led me naturally to the Pure.
im existing and it shows up for me .
I spoke with AT&T this morning. The refurbs are only available to new customers due to limited supply. They also said that I could order it as a new customer and transfer it over to my existing family plan without any problem or cost.
The said that the phone is still listed as a available phone, but they have no stock and do not know if/when they will be getting them in. O'well. I guess it will be a refurb for me.
Read this thread from FEBRUARY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637163
I did order the phone. I was planning on doing the $100 HTC trade up rebate, but it is not good on refurb phone purchases. But since there was no actual cost to the phone no big deal. I get to keep the tilt as a spare. On my TP2 purchase last week, I am sending in a Treo that was collecting dust and getting my $100 rebate.
I don't care if the phone is old (which it is not really) or not selling well. It does what I want it to do. It has no real replacement, and definitely the right cost. I upgraded 2 smart phones and the total cost will be -$50. Not a bad deal at all.
2 Tilt 2's would have been o.k. but the wife did not want/need the physical keyboard. Plus I could see a day when we would grab the wrong phones on the way to work and then be screwed.
LetsTalk.com has them along with Wirefly.com. Both available under the add a line program. Cost depends on your timing, they run them NIB for free MOST of the time, but have seen them listed for about $50 US.

I did not see them there. The only HTC that came up for AT&T was the tilt 2. I do believe they are gone, (or going away quickly). Not to be selfish but, I got mine.... or at least it is coming.... since it is coming Us Postal Service, I have a great hope for it to show up on saturday.
I can see the problem. my wife on Wed said that she would prefer the one without the keyboard. Then after she found out that it might not be available, she was o.k. with going tilt 2 as an option instead. I can see that conversation occurring throughout the country. In this case however the tilt 2 (new) was $199 vs the Pure (refurb) at $0. I am pretty sure I made the right choice.

Wow.. I knew ATT was pulling them out of their stores but it seems EVERYONE is now. I've seen ATT pull phones before and places like Wirefly have them still 6 months later. I just checked on them 2 days or so ago when MY wife was eyeballing MY Pure..

As of thursday morning AMAZON was the only one who had them. They wanted 0.01 for a new line and $80 for an upgrade.
Amazon does not do the add a line, and phones purchased though them cannot be combined with an existing family account (like you can with att's own phones) without a $250 penalty within the first 6 months. ATT tracks by device ID, as long as the device is activated, they don't care how. Amazon get their comission based on account number. If you do the new account option, then try to combine the accounts, you will lose the new account number and be fined.
If you did upgrade by the end of May, you could do the HTC trade up rebate if you have an old device to send in and get $100 back. Then the phone would be -$20...even free shipping.
They did say that stock levels were low for the pure.

Ebay had some friday.. got busy and didn't get a chance to come here and post on it. Some of those dealers offer add a line. It's gonna suck if I ever have to do a phone swap though and no one has new ones. I love my Pure the way it is now. The stock ROM bites but the Energy is rockin'. A friend had a refurbed phone from ATT and whenever it got hot here his screen would fog up from internal moisture.

I have had some good luck with refurbs, but of course there are some horror stories. In this case I am sure that the cost saving will be worth it. The way I am upgrading and shuffling phones around, it will leave me with 1 line with an upgrade option on it. This will give me a chance to be able to replace any phone that breaks out of warranty in the coming months. Keeps the insurance cost down to zero.
First thing you do with any phone you get, new or refurb is check the white patch under the battery to make sure it is NOT pink in any way. That is the indication that the phone has been wet.
I love my Pure. Actually since me buying mine, my good friend and also my father have made the jump too. Its a pretty good touchscreen phone that is feels just the right size. I hope you all are successful in your attempts to get your hands on one. We knew they were going to get pulled months ago because of the low sales (wtf). I guess most people prefer the TP2 (meh).

I just got it and after a long 40 minutes on the phone with at&t the did all the juggling on my account and got it working. (even got them to waive the activation fee).
So far so good. I am charging it now, so that I can flash it to the (same) energy rom that I have on my tilt 2.
The battery in the Pure was draining the website so they stopped selling it :|

HTC Hero early upgrades

Sprint is great, I was 6 months into a 2 year contract and had 1 upgrade for my Airave line. I used that on the HTC Evo. I got on the phone with Sprint and asked them about my upgrade status for the 5 phone lines and was told that it was due in Oct 2012. I asked for early upgrades, they gave it to me! I picked up 3 heros and thinking of 2 other phones to get.
GO SPRINT!!!!!
oh but my contract was renewed for another 2 years but its ok!
Yeeaaa I have a hard time believing this one. First, airave upgrades dont exist. Second, upgrades are every 22 months besides your premier line (if you have a plan that gives you premier status) meaning by what you wrote 4 of your lines were upgraded on Dec 2010 and I don't think we are there yet
gg what do I have to gain by lying? Oh and I meant Oct 2011 hehe.
And btw Airave upgrades do exist. It might not be necessarily upgrading the Airave unit but there is still an upgrade credit. I used that to get my Evo and the Sprint rep simply swapped it out to my true phone line.

Actually its fully legit to do it. We do it at best buy constantly. I upgraded my sisters line with her airave and Im using my airave upgrade for the next android. All your doing is using the airaves upgrade and not activating it and swapping it to your main line. This puts your airave on a 2 year contract.
Nobody gets fired, its a screw up in sprints system that theyre too lazy to fix.

You aren't getting any evo on an early upgrade. you have to wait until your truly due for one. i tired this already, WON'T happen. i just happened to find a sucker on craigslist that traded me his new evo for a used hero + $150 cash.

Early upgrades are possible on extremely rare occasions. I gave 2 last week for the evo for the same customer. My only customer to get one since the phone was released.

hey I'm curious. Do you mind me asking on what grounds did you give the early upgrade? Oh and is it possible to buy a phone out of contract at full price without activating it in store? I tried to do that today and it was annoying as the rep kept insisting I had to have it activated before I walked out.

Best part...one of your coworkers told me how and what to do. Before that "fool" opened his mouth we refused to do it. Then that "fool" told us it was completely ok to do and until you guys changed the system it wouldnt be an issue.
Next time I'd refrain on pointing fingers at us "fools" before checking what your "fools" are doing. Ive had far more f-ups from Sprint reps like yourself than I have from Best Buy account reps. Your the "fools" who had to halt the samsung moment cl14 upgrades because your techs couldnt figure out how to run the file. We were loading them the minute they hit the site.
Btw, in regards to your "Airave upgrades dont exist"
Yea... The system shows it, you can't use it and yes best buy/radioshack **** up all accounts from opening lines when customers were wanting to upgrade to using airave lines as upgrades. The airave, though it is now seen in the system as a line can not be used as a line to upgrade. Also please stop telling customers activation is free and tell them if they switch the phone to another line within 30 days they lose the rebate.
But of course one retard opens his mouth, the rest follow. If I show u a glitch in the system to give free evos will u use it too? Cause I know one. Just cause u can do something doesnt mean its allowed and then retention has to fix all ur **** ups. No update was evrr halted either, find a new source.
We have 6 lines and they all got upgraded 5 months ago at the same time, last night 3 of them could be upgraded so we upgraded 2 of them to the EVO for $199

I think it's safe to say we can ALL forget about upgrading a Hero to an Epic4g even a single day before October 10, and the only way we can even fantasize about an Evo a couple of weeks early is if Sprint ordered a staggeringly HUGE quantity of them only to have demand for it completely collapse once the Epic4g arrives. I really don't see that happening, either.(*)
(*)In fact, I personally think that's why there's an Evo shortage right now. Sprint knows demand for the Evo is at least partly driven by the fact that right now, it's their ONLY 4G android phone. They almost certainly have an agreement with HTC to promote the Evo exclusively for some minimum number of days, shortage or not. Thus, they're being extremely conservative about replenishing their Evo inventory only to levels they know can be sustained by ongoing new sales once the Epic4g is out as well. They don't want to end up in a situation where stores have a mountain of Evos piled floor to ceiling and a 6-week backlog for Epic4g.
From a PR standpoint, Sprint's ideal scenario would be to have every Sprint store be sold out of one or the other for at least a couple of days each week... but have enough in stock at SOME Sprint store within 50 miles to ensure that anyone (with a car) who walks through the door and is determined to have one *today* can go to bed happy that night, but will also tell everyone that they're so popular, they're sold out *almost* (but not quite) everywhere.
If you have any line that is elgib. for an upgrade and you upgrade on that line and switch it to your line then you lose your rebate.
If you were going to do this then you would have to wait until the rebate has been processed and then switch the lines so...

[Q] Sprint Store - upgrade a month early?

I reserved my Epic 4g at my local Sprint retail store, and while it comes out August 31st, my contract doesn't expire until October (Premier 1yr upgrade). Last time I came in they let me upgrade a month early and I was wondering if they would do the same in this case, or is that frowned upon without circumstances? Last time I upgraded from Blackberry to HTC Hero cause my Blackberry was wigging out. My Hero has a little chip on the end call button (cheap plastic crap) so maybe I could fuss that out of them? Any suggestions?

Early upgrades are available depending on contract end dates. If you have a month left on your contract you can pay an extra $25 and get an early upgrade...

If you're on your fifth (5th) Moment, then you should try calling in to tech support and not being rude..... You will most likely end up being transferred to MDE which is an advanced level of specialized support who , if it is in fact your 5th Moment and everything on your account is legit, could look to see what other devices are available to replace the Moment with. But you have to be willing to perform all of the steps of troubleshooting they ask you to and BE NICE!!!!!!
As for the topic at hand..... if you are going to complain about the chipped END button I hope you get nothing done for you. Sprint techs waste more time dealing with people calling in to get something for nothing than they do on any other task. If you chipped your END button, that's YOUR issue. Or if you honestly feel it is a defective device, hit up hTC before you go blaming Sprint and grow up, get a job, and buy your EVO in a month when you are eligible..... It's people like you that drive up cost of service because in order to provide somewhat decent service to people that need it they are having to hire countless support reps to take calls from people just like you!
Yep I was nice and they are esclating it up to Ceo level to get it approved

wow umadbro? I was just stating a fact. I also have dust under my screen but luckily I'm not one of those anal retentive customers you think ties up your service lines. Both are wide spread issues with the device, and I take very very good care of my device. It's probably fallen off my bed stand once and maybe dropped once in the whole 9 or 10 months I've had it. Besides, I was just wondering what my chances were, even with adding the cosmetic damage. I've been with Sprint for 5 years and they've been nothing but good to me, so I figure I'd just go in to the store and ask nicely. If not, I can wait another month for the 1yr premier upgrade.

Im glad someone said something on here about getting an early upgrade. So my upgrade is October 1st, and i got to thinking. If i can get this phone faster i will. So i called sprint and asked if i could have my upgrade bumped up a month earlier so i could order the phone and have it shipped to my door. The lady told me that the only thing she could do is move my upgrade up to September 18th. She said with all the preorders and in store walkin reserves its gonna be hard to get one on launch day, but thats what they say about every new smartphone. So now all i have is to do is wait 22 days plus shipping and i'll have my new phone,
I called in today and they moved mine from oct 1st, to sept 15! I just asked nicely and they were cool about it. Ima probbably hit up best buy or radio shack on 15 and grab one with no mir

Told you guys
I called CS and asked about bumping my upgrade to August 31st from October.. they said it shouldn't be a problem, but that it's at the stores descretion to make that call. I am not a premier customer... so maybe I have a chance.
Back when the Evo was coming out, I talked to them about bumping up my upgrade. I only asked about the one line, but they bumped up both lines.
Did the store bump you or did someone from CS do that?
Yea if your contract is about to expire they might move it a month, I'm premier so its my 1 year upgrade so less flexibility since i still have a year left on contract

Thought I would share my findings on SP Gold/Silver

O-k so I went to pay my bill today @ a REAL Sprint Store and asked one of the workers to explain this new SP Gold/Silver tier stuff. He looked up my acct. and saw I was due for an upgrade Jun 1 2011(mind you I jumped ship to Sprint launch day of EvO4G). So I asked him if that's gone bc of this new policy. He said, no, that I still will get my $150 off my next phone starting June 1st. He said that whoever already has an upgrade on their acct. whether that be $75 or $150 will still be honored for their upgrade. He said to change that would be unethical and would cause an uproar with customers. He then told me that once I use that upgrade, then I have to wait 16/22 months respectively, before I'm eligible for another upgrade.
Hopefully this clears up some things for people who have been freaking out over this.
Lol here we go again!
This saved me from looking thru anything for an answer thanks dude.
funny a lady from sprint that i have been talking to since my data troubles have started told me the only line on the contracts that would be affected would be the PRIMARY . all other upgrades stay and are safe . and that i would have lost it on April 1st
/shrug who is telling the truth .
i burnt my upgrade for my daughters shift in fact i was told i did the smart thing buy burning my upgrade ( im the primary ) or i would have lost it
It makes sense. Say you look @ your acct right now and it says I dunno...May 3rd you're entitled to $150 off your next phone. Imagine if that magically disappeared and a big F*** YOU was now on your acct in place. People would flip out!!

Aren't sprint reps known for spewing BS? Don't u guys ever learn not to listen to sprint reps????
Yea hate to say it, but he lied to you (or he's just stupid). Either way, you arent getting your upgrade after april 1st.
But then again, if you really want to try, go back to that store, have that guy print out a sheet of paper, or write on paper, that says you WILL get your upgrade on that date, and have him SIGN IT. That way you will have SOME leverage come June. It may not work, but its worth a shot.

i just did that and no dates were given except i am available for the upgrades. does this mean i can wait until the 3d release?
They gave you 2-3 months notice they are taking it away. DUR DUR DUR.
well there is a loop hole. You can change your phone plan from the $69.99 to the next one up and keep that for the 3-6 months or whatever it is and you will be changed to gold. So basically, a couple months before you know you are due for your 1 year, switch your account and then reap the benefits of getting a new phone. Once you get that new phone, switch back to your original plan...eh...eh...
Anyone else think that will work?

Yes, this will work. This is actually what a couple of Sprint customer service employees suggested I do. I've already upgraded my plan to the ED 3000. Now I just have to wait 90 days and hope I can get the phone through wirefly and downgrade to the 1500 at the same time (anyone know if I can do this). I know wirefly has something about not changing your plan for 6 months after getting the phone. If I can't do that, I'll probably just buy it through Sprint; wirefly's additional ETF scares me. Haha.
loop hole.. sounds interesting...
but i am sure sprint would have thought of that...
and they will say.. you have to have the plan active at the qualifing rate for a yr to count!
but.. you can try it.. and let us know...

It only has to be active for 90 days, according to Sprint's website.

IT will Work!
Here's the low down...
I called on the 21st asking if my upgrade will change once april comes by...the stupid lady said no....after much research i found out that my upgrade will be indeed gone....
I called again on the 23rd...and talk to another lady and she said that i will lose upgrade...I demanded that i was promised an upgrade therefore i should get it...then i got transferred to a lead specialist...She wasn't very nice i was arguing on the phone that its unethical for youn guys to promise me something and turn arround and say sorry you can't have this...
She said she would issue a corrective action to her employee that told me i can keep my upgrade...I told her thats only benifiting Sprint becuase a corrective doesn't help me get my upgrade...
I got transfered to account services...explained the whole thing again. and then i got transferred to this supervisor guy...
He asked where i worked, i said target...he said ok. if we put you on the 89.99 plan and take twenty % off you'll only be paying 3 dollars more than you would be now, and come july 1st (the day i was supposed to get my upgrade) I can get my EVO 3D and than downgrade to the 69.99 plan and still keep my 20% off...So yes it will work
Cliff notes: yes you can switch to 89.99 plan and wait 3 months then you can get your phone and go back to 69.99.
BUT YOU HAVE TO DO THIS BEFORE APRIL 1st. Act fast...there's less than 3 days left for this deal...
Yeah this suck I got my wife and epic today to waste the upgrade and depends on EVO getting official gingerbread or no I will buy gull price the EVO 3D or get the ipad 2

Limit on returning Sprint phones?

I'm considering purchasing the Epic Touch 4G from a nearby Sprint corporate store in order to be able to try the phone out for 14 days. The logic behind this is that my upgrade period starts in a few weeks, and it is my understanding that customers are limited to one return of a device purchased as an upgrade. In order to avoid losing my one return via the upgrade, I'd rather use the time before to try out the ET4G. There are three devices I'm interested in - ET4G, iPhone5 and Nexus Prime - and the return limit means I can't try them all out.
What I'm wondering, though, will my return of the phone purchased tomorrow prevent me from potentially returning a different phone purchased as an upgrade?

So you want to purchase a phone at full price to try it out before returning it to use an upgrade to get a second phone, and then returning that second phone on the upgrade to get a third?

that's certainly possible. a lot depends on how much I like the ET4G - I could decide I like it enough that once my upgrade kicks in, I'll just get that one and stick with it. but I'd like to know that I could try out multiple phones if I wanted to.
You could probably do that, but you would be royally ****ing the numbers of that store, especially the salesperson who sold the first one, which isn't fair to them. 2 returns means they would have to sell about two dozen phones without any more returns to get back to even on their goals. I would suggest buying the et4g used and trying it that way. Or you could buy it from telesales or sprint.com and return it in store. Just keep in mind the restocking fee. The only way around it is to return to your original device on or before the third day of use, which includes the day you buy it.

ah ok, fair enough. I don't have a problem with paying the restocking fee, but I don't want to screw over the in-store salesperson. It's no both to me to order via telesales, so if you think that's the soundest approach, I'll just do that. Being able to return it to a corporate store at least means I can maximize the number of days I'll be able to test it out.

Wait, what? That's not how goals work at our stores.

can you clarify whether doing what I described earlier would screw the sales staff in the store? would it be better to place the order by phone or online instead?

My math might be off because im not really trying to be exact, but if an rc wants to maintain a return exchange rate of less than 8% they can have one return or exchange for every 12 handsets sold. If they do 2 exchanges for a customer, it only gets worse. We had a lady swap 5 times over the summer and just murder one guy's numbers. Depends on how busy the store is ultimately. If the rep normally sells lots of handsets it wont matter too much. But a return from telesales or dotcom doesnt affect an individual salesperson. Hence why i suggested it. Just trying to remind everyone that reps are people too. You wouldnt want your boss to ride you all month because you exchanged 2 handsets for a guy I'm sure. That said, if your rep is a moron or a ****, who cares? Sprint would b better off without them anyway.

Sorry my response took so long. I forgot about this thread.
We do not have goals for return percentages at our stores, just for the net new activations and upgrades at the end of the month. Obviously we want to get people into the right phone the first time, but there are so many people that want to try different phones before deciding that it really isn't fair to punish the salesperson when the customer is the one causing us a problem. We do have a limit of 1 customer satisfaction swap per activation/upgrade that helps us limit frivolous swaps.
Of course, our stores are not corporate stores, but we are a platinum level preferred sprint dealer.
Why not wait for all phones to come out & test them at the store then pick the one you like play with at home & if you don't like it bring it back for one you want you got 14days to return it!

I was wondering why they hate me at the Sprint store. I was eligible so I went in and got a Epic Touch. I HATED how it felt in my hand. If I'm holding something larger than my hand then it better have a nipple on it. Anyway, I figured I could get used to it but the LOS killed my love of this beautiful device. I returned it for a Photon. About the same size as the Epic. A little lighter and bigger screen. Great radio and battery but the core apps (Email/Contacts/Calendar) all suck IMO. Returned that too. Salesrep barely talked to me. Now I know why.
I really wish they had a phone lounge where their longtime customers could sit down with a real phone with service and not tethered just so we can take it thru its paces.
FYI: I am back on my Epic. Poor radio, short battery but great phone.
(With Swype I never use the keyboard though)
Why not just spend the extra time researching on XDA, then go to a Sprint store to play with it for a few hours to see whether you will like it or not. IMHO spending the time to set up your phone, activation etc etc, driving to the store aren't worth the hassle if you are already considering returning it.

30 minutes to have a phone at home for 2 weeks vs. spending "a few hours" in a Sprint store? I think I'll take the former.
anyway, it's pretty safe to say the iPhone is off this list since it's completely pointless. I like the ET4G a lot but the bottom line is that Sprint can't deliver service on a level that would really support these devices let alone justify the expense of a new phone. I think I'll just stick with my Epic.
my advice is to go to nebraska furniture mart they discount the rebate at the register and you wind up paying alot less
