Can I recover data from my NS, screen is smashed.... - Nexus S General

Well I managed to drop my NS in the most unfortunate way, which cause the display to stop functioning, I can see the drop down menu.... kinda, but that is about the only way I know it is on.
Is it possible to recover the data I had on it? Pictures and videos?
And for my new phone is there a way to syc my photos online somehow?
Thanks,
PS, I had a pin lock on the screen.

Yes you can.
I am assuming you have enabled usb debugging.
Download Android Commander and make a backup of your sdcard using that.

Facebook App Problems

So I let my little brother sign into the Facebook app on my phone and thus the problems. I signed him out and logged in with my stuff, but I'm still getting updates in my notification bar from his account and when I click them, it just takes me to the app with my account logged in and doesn't show me anything new. I've tried clearing out the app data and even uninstalling/reinstalling the Facebook app to my phone with the same results. Anyone else had the same or similar problem, or have any suggestions about how to fix it?
Bump as I've not managed to get this fixed. Hopefully will get some more eyes on.

I dunno Don. That's an odd one. If you've cleared the data it should have done the trick. Maybe something gets stored to the sdcard. I know that during the installation a notification gets stored there. I wonder...
That's kind of on the lines of what I was thinking too but I haven't been able to find anything on there that seems linked besides the sound. I'm going to keep working at it and I'll post any progress I make here for future reference.

A little camera problem

Ok this is going to sound really stupid but hear me out I'm POSITIVE I didn't delete the videos off my phone.
So yesterday I was out with some friends just chilling and I took some pretty funny videos of some of my friends. To share them with my friends I decided I was gonna upload them to youtube, but I couldnt do it directly from my phone for some reason. So I decided to email both video files via gmail to myself then upload them later on the computer. I check a couple hours later and the message is still sending, because of the amount of memory both videos were I assume, so I decided to give up and just find them on the sd card then move them to my pc. So I delete the message that was sending with the attached files since I wasnt going to go about it that way anymore, but then I go back and look through my phone and notice I cant find the videos. By attaching them to my gmail did I move them off the SD card?
I don't know about your main problem but in order to send pics/videos your carriers mobile data must be on, it will not work if only WiFi is enabled.

Sorry I knew it was too confusing. The uploading wasn't the main problem, my main question is if by me attaching those video files to my email then deleting them while they were still in the sending process, did I basically just delete those files off my sd card too??
It shouldn't have deleted the videos, not sure how that could have happened.

What usually happens with me is the gallery app doesn't read new vids or pics when its running I kill the app & they pop up

I have a problem with the gallery app too!! Looking closely one of the random camera videos, it has a screenshot from a different video I did delete. How is this possible.. I may have deleted the two videos by accident because of this. Is there any sort of trashcan?

Have you tried using a program to locate the deleted files and "undelete" them?

You can "undelete" from SDCARD with 3rd party applications, I have done long time ago. But I am not sure you can do it since android writes/modifies sdcard too much.

Need help recovering a file...

so i had a completely stock atrix as of a few days ago, and i decided to dive in head first and start tinkering. im rooted, sideloaded, and gingerblured. and i love it. its fantastic. my problem is that i took a picture of my girlfriend as my wallpaper before flashing gingerblur, and forgot to back anything up. well the flash wiped everything, my wallpaper didnt change, by luck... but i cant seem to find the file anywhere on the atrix. aaaaaand i dont have another copy. anyone have an idea on how i might be able to find it?
really? nobody has any clue?
There are numerous programs that will attempt to recover data from SD cards though I am not sure they will work if the pic was on the internal storage partition on your phone.
Its your girlfriend right?
Take another pic?
I dont remember if i stored it on internal or sd. But being as its still the wallpaper, it has to be cached somewhere, right? And while i could take another picture, perhaps i like the one i have. Id like to excersize my options before giving up. But thank you for that well thought out, very contributory answer shriva. Much obliged...

your missing his dilemma here. the wifey is gonna yell at him for not making sure the pic is safe! She will treat it as a bad thing!

Try this...
Hook it up to your PC and select "USB Mass Storage". Go to the drive representing your phone in "My Computer" on your PC. Use the windows search function to search *.jpg
See what pops up.

I'm out of ideas then. If you only want it for wallpaper then you could clear off a home screen and use a screenshot app to save a copy, but if it's scrolling when you switch home screens then you're going to miss some of it. Also, depending on your launcher you're going to probably have some visible icons in the dock.

Try this path using root explorer.
data/data/com.android.settings/files/wallpaper
There should be a file in there called wallpaper.
I would use copy though, not move.

Need help with daughters phone please

Don't come on this section much, I'm a captivate guy. But my daughter has a completely stock desire z on bells network.
What is happening with her phone is regularly she will have to do a reboot, or sometimes even a battery pull because she will add some songs, or pictures and sometimes even SMS messages and she knows they're there but they won't show until the reboot. In the case of gosms, she gets the notification icon on the display up top, and when she clicks it, the messaging app is empty, until the reboot?! The songs and pics are the same thing, she knows they're there, and they show, but not until a reboot. Hope i've given enough details. As I said, stock rom, everything. Thanks in advance.

It's probably an effect of a known bug with refreshing cache for files on SD card. Try running this instead of reboot:
SDRescan
---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 AM ----------
Though not sure what the heck is going on with her messaging... First time I hear about that. Maybe corrupted internal memory card?
thanks given, I'll give it a try.
Sounds like an sd card issue going on here. That app should help, but I don't know why it is affecting gosms...

I'm not sure if the gosms issue is a regular one or not. I've got the sd Rescan on there now and we'll see if that helps. I have to go over her phone and get rid of as bunch of unused apps as it is. Not to mention she had about 8 updates that I took care of for her. Thanks a lot all!

I had the same problem after OTA update on the stock ROM.
Reset to factory defaults after update solved the problem.

If you really want to retrieve back your deleted photos, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705, and switch off your phone now to prevent deleted photos being overwritten! Once overwritten, it will be gone forever.
Good luck!
