Bulge on the left side of the screen - Kindle Fire General

Does anybody else have this problem? If I run my fingers along the edge of the screen it is flat and slightly below the bevel which is normal. When I get to the left side about a half way down, the screen bulges out a little bit and sits flush with the bevel instead of being a little recessed. I feel like it's gotten worse since i've got the Kindle, mb like the battery is pushing out the screen?
I don't know if I'm accurately describing it. For example, if I run my fingernail from the center of the screen out to the edge, the bevel catches my fingernail except for at that part where the screen is bulging outwards on the left side middle ways down.

Mine does the same thing. I think that the adhesive is malfunctioning. I'm taking mine back to Target on Friday.

I think mine has the same issue but I couldn't notice it until I tried looking for it.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

I never noticed it before but if I feel for it it's there. You can see it if you sight down the left edge with one eye. Very minor but I wonder if we are all going to start experience the "fire swell" in the future

Dammit!!! Mine does it too. Wasn't a problem until I looked for it!

I noticed mine like a month ago. It has slowly been getting worse. I bought the day it was released. I wonder if this is an issue with just the first released Fires or not. For those of you that just noticed, when did you purchase your KF?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

Yeah, my kindle fire faces the same error.

Mine has it too, but doesn't seem like something to worry about.
The screen doesn't get hot in that area so I don't think it will eventually break out or something. It's a manufacturing defect.

Ok so I'm not alone. I wonder if I should get an exchange, I have a lot of dust on the top left hand corner too probably getting in from the speaker.

none here, got my kf for christmas from someone who probably bought it in early-mid december from amazon.com.

Who isn't going to RMA due to screen raise?

Who isn't going to send their nexus 7 in for exchange / repair ? I would probably have never noticed the screen issue if I wasnt reading the defect threads. I bet if you look hard enough you can find something wrong with anything. Right now the only issue is a slight raise on the left side on mine. There is no light bleed and no dead pixels or ghosting. I feel if I sent mine in and waited for however long it takes I'll get one back where the screen raise is fine and have a new issue like light bleed and dead pixels...

Have you checked your screws?

Lol how do people find this stuff mines is barely raised on the left side not bad enough for me to take apart and tighten the screws.
I'm not doing an exchange I love this thing and not ready to part.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I checked my screws and found that they were loose and tightened them up, screen still barely sits above but solved the creak. I have 3 more weeks to tinker with it, my Gamestop said i can return it once the next batch comes in but if this fixed it i won't exchange it.
Yeah I'm not planning on returning it either. I have seen some videos that have a MAJOR raise on the screen. Mine is just a little bit and can easily be pushed back down if I want to. Other than that the tablet is perfect and I don't want to send it back and maybe get one with more dead pixels (only noticed one but et normal viewing distance I can't see its there) or ghosting or something else.
I do recommend you keep an eye on it and make sure not doesn't get any worse. I doubt it will, however I will be exchanging it if it does.

I think everyone's expectations for a $200 dollar tablet are too high.
I am perfectly happy with mine. I have a little screen raise, but haven't noticed any creaks. I will use it until something significantly better comes out, then i'll spend another 200 to upgrade it.
Phones with comparable specs (albeit a smaller screen) are in the ~$400 range (gnex).
Mine was fine for the first 5 days, but has now started to lift. It sounds like double-sided tape coming unstuck. It's only raised about 0.5mm above the frame on the left hand side though, so I don't intend to return it unless it gets a lot worse, or it begins to affect other things (e.g. dust getting in, or digitiser playing up).
May yet return mine for ghosting, though doing a full discharge of the battery MAY have cured that issue (fingers crossed).
Why can't I get through Googles own support site to do a rma on my Google device? Wtf
Because everyone and there mother has flooded them for RMAs :/

Im thinking about sending my nexus 7 because of a yellowish tint on one of the corners when viewing pure black. But I am afraid of getting one with worse issues like the raised bezel or dead pixels.

If I only had the slight screen rise I would probably keep it, but I have a creak on the right that is loud and driving me nuts. Sadly, everything else seems perfect - hopefully my next one will be truly flawless...
I'm not. My Nexus 7 looks very well made, and in perfect shape. I've had it for 24 hours.
Is their support 24 hours? I've been busy and finally called. I've been on hold for about 10 minutes and it seems like they're open...
Yea I wasn't going to originally but after the screwdriver fix did nothing, and its basically like a creaky teeter totter on the left and right sides, I decided I should probably RMA. I love the tablet tho. I've used it A LOT since it arrived. It's amazing.
I have a very slight screen raise issue and I have requested to get a replacement, and depending on the condition of the replacement I'll either keep the new 1 or keep the old 1.

Me, because both of my Nexus 7s are free of this, or any defects.
Same here. My left side of the screen sticks up a tiny bit, I'm waiting for a replacement but if the next one is worse ill just keep this one and try the washer fix or live with it. I still think it's a great tablet, especially for the price. I'll take this over an ipad costing hundreds more any day.

People without "screen lift" issue..

Is the left side identical to the right? Its not raised at all and doesn't creak at all?? I ask because I got my second replacement today and it still has a raised left side and makes noises when I push down on it :/ just wondering if I got unlucky twice in a row or if this is normal...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My left side is identical to the right. No creak. No screen issues what so ever.
When the left side is held at eye level I see a very small sliver which I can not see on the right. I have yet to have the seperation problem with the tablet but this is only my second day of use' I am now peeing my pants but my diaper is the fact I got an extended 3 year warranty from Walmart. So far no problems with it so I'll keep my fingers crossed
The left side of my device pushes down ever so slightly, it's not really enough to annoy me(i wouldn't even give it a second thought if it had not been for other people saying)
Its not normal, in the sense that its shouldnt be there, although a lot of people do have this problem.
Heres a fix (not tested myself) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29422550&postcount=1

Okay I just wasn't sure if I was being super anal about it or if it really did have screen lift, guess I got unlucky 3 times hopefully the next one is good!!
I really haven't noticed anything like this with my wife's N7. I'll pay attention to it tonight and post if I notice it now.
No lift here, both sides identical.
Maybe i just got really unlucky with three in a row I was hoping it was that and it wasn't that minor screen lift was standard.. like someone earlier described, from one side at eye level, i see the silver of the casing, on the other side i just see the screen, people without screen lift see the silver on both sides??
No screen separation here so far so good

I still think it is a misnomer calling it a screen separation. Screen is perfectly flat. My left side bezel dips down a bit. It is just plastic; no big deal. Has no effect on functionality.

I am on number 2.
I have RMA'd my original, got the second and it still has the screen lift but worse then my original.
So I am RMAing my replacement.
I will do this until I get a good one.
I flash a lot of roms and have plenty of backups. So having my N7 setup is not a thing.
The only good thing with Googles RMA process is that you are never without a N7.
So on to the next.

Nexus 7 just showed up from Google Play Aug31, left side of the screen is separating.

I hadn't even heard of this problem and didn't notice it until a couple hours after I had been playing with the device while I was searching in frustration how to get the drivers to root on Windows 8.
Good thing I never figured it out before I noticed the left side of the glass was sticking up just a tiny bit on my brand new Nexus 7. It's still stock If I want to return it. I can push down and hold the middle part of the left side of the screen for a few seconds and it seems to stay down for a few minutes but eventually keeps popping back up just slightly. I've searched and seen videos on youtube where some go to extreme measures of pulling the device apart and tightening screws or clamping it together for hours while leaving it playing HD movies until the battery dies and other methods way beyond those.
Do I I just try and put this flaw out of my mind and be grateful I didn't get a device like some other threads I've found (dead pixels, dead touch zones, brightness issues, etc.) or do I complain to Google ASAP and ask for a replacement while it's still new?
Will they send me out a new device first and then make me ship this unit back or vice versa?

I have the exact same problem, the left side is coming out a tiny bit. when using it i cant notice it, but when i look from the side i can notice it, but its only a tiny bit. im keeping mine, i have no problems whatsoever with mine (apart from that)
I notice it all the time now that I'm aware of it. After playing with the tablet all night, it's like a tick now to check if the left side is staying down or not.
I realize this is a budget device and form factor may not have been a priority but, after choosing the 16gb version, taxes and shipping, I spent over $280 on the Nexus 7. It's not a $199 tablet.
I want to try another one but maybe only if Google Play's return policy is on the same level as Amazon where they would 2nd day air you a duplicate product with a return label. So you would have a new device before you give up the old one and wait for who knows how long for it to be serviced and returned... not to mention if you are on the hook for return shipping costs.
Send it back and hope you get one from the new batch.

Ordering just a week ago I would have thought I got the latest batch. In my googling though it looks like there is a newer version than what UPS dropped off at my door on 2012-08-31.I believe the relevant info is the SSN on my box an it is C70*
If I had bought this at a brick and morder, I would take it back and exchange it today. Since I didn't and I'm at the mercy of Google and the 3rd party call centers they've hired to handle this kind of think, I'm not sure what I should do.

They email you the return label and RMA form to print out and let you order a free replacement (actually they place a $250 preauth charge on your card that should disappear after a few days)
You get 21 days to send back the defective unit, but the new one should arrive before then.

Pop the back off, loosen the screws on the left side then hold the edge tight while you tighten the screws and it should take care of the separation.

It isn't to fix screen lift, it's to fix the separation between the bezel and the edge of the screen.

Seperation/ screen lift, is the same thing. Look at the link I posted, you can see my bezel and edge of the screen separating. If it worked for you, thats awesome like I said it worked on one of mine for a little before seperating again. It isn't a permanent fix for everyone
I hate hearing that "this is a budget device so it's just something you have to deal with." We paid $200-250 for a tablet. Not $200-250 for a tablet with the left side of the screen popping up above the bezel. The lower price point doesn't disqualify us from from returning one unit to get one that isn't defective. You are well within your rights to do so if it bothers you.

I have the same problem. C80...
BUT:
I really don't think that thigthening those screws or adding the missing ones is a good choice here.
If you consider that Asus leaves those screws out of the device on purpose than there can only be one reason:
To me it looks like the display is to big for the frame it might just be 0.1mm or less.
Leaving the screws out will then avoid to add pressure on the display due to pushing it into the too small frame.
That could be the reason that not every device in a batch is bad. They just have a couple of bad positions at molding where they get too tiny frames, the others are OK.
...my 2 cents...
I will keep sending mine back until I get one without missing screws.
Edit: or the two outer screws are too close together. This would even make more sense.
I have exactly the same problem with my Nexus 7. It's an C80. Otherwise the tablet just works perfect.
Is it possible that the screen can break in the future because of that separation? Had someone recognized that the gap got bigger at the C80?
Thanks for your answers.
I'd say if you don't push it down/flex the glass you will be fine.
Yes it is and it is ot covered by the warranty if the screen cracks. Ask for replacement

[Q] Should I return my N7 32gb? (Screen lift)

Hi all
I bought the new nexus 7(c90) 32gb a few days ago from PC world along with the 2 year guarantee. Out of the box it was working perfectly and I began setting it up as you do .
Anyways after around 10 mins of using it a tiny flake of the silver plastic bezel felt loose and then fell off so I have this 4mm black "scrape" on the corner of my N7's bezel but as this is so small (I will try to include a pic) I am just putting it down as wear and tear
However here is my bigger issue. After reading how many 8gb/16gb N7's had the dreadful screen lift I decided to check mine. It seems that the middle of the left side of the screen is higher than the right side and does not sit flush with the bezel however it's barely sitting a width of a hair above it. I can run my nail from the middle of the screen to the right and feel the bezel is higher than the screen however when I do the same to the left side my nail simply falls off. If I hold my N7 horizontally and look down at it , the left side is higher than the right as the bezel cannot be seen towards the middle of the screen. If you look at the left side you can sort of see the screen bulging out by the smallest amount and if you push on the screen you can see a very very small amount of screen flex.
I would really appreciate any advice. I asked my parents to buy this as a Bday present me as these N7's are really good value for money and this being my first proper tab I really wanted to flash roms ect but due to the screen lift/bezel issue im not sure what to do. PC world claim to refund or replace any item that develops a fault within 21 days. Spoke to my parents and they tell me if it's that small of an issue I’m just better off leaving it. Yesterday I want to a large shopping centre and tested out some N7's(not sure on gb's) and 2 of the 3 displayed a similar issue however due to the rush I’m not 100% sure. Also tested Tesco’s 16gb and there was no screen lift.
I'm worried that after a while the screen issue may get worse. After some reading last night I read that 32gb's are excluded from this design flaw so Is there a possibility of me owning a faulty one? . Do you think PC world would accept these as "faults?" . If I'd never seen the thread on screen lift then I most likely would have never noticed anything. .
Hope all this makes sense, any questions please ask!
thanks!
I bought one yesterday mate from Currys and I didn't think mine was bad until I compared it against the display model in store today. Mine had a lot of screen lift and I could easily get my finger nail between the screen and the bezel, the quality was poor to say the least.
I took it back today and had a really good chat with the guys at Currys and they were mega helpful. I ended up exchanging it for a new unit and its near on perfect so I'm chuffed to bits.
You won't get close to getting a tablet of this spec for the money. Take it back and get another one.

thanks for the reply. I'm also able to wedge my nail in the gap between the bezel and left side of the screen. I am strongly considering returning it back in the next few days however I'm not sure if they will accept it as the screen lift isn't that noticible initially . Also how did the exchange process go?, did you just get a new boxed replacement or did you ask them to open up a few?.

-Brought to you by Marino's Nexus 7-
Mine was quite noticeable because even though I hadn't had the tablet a full 24hrs there was already dust and bits gathering down one side of the screen which made it stand out even more. The screen lift was something I could only see getting worse. I actually took the back off for a nosey before I exchanged it and I could see there were missing screws down the side of the bezel which I believe is how Asus are trying to combat the screen lift.
The two guys I spoke with at Currys were obviously in to their gadgets as well and were aware of the quality issues with these tablets and said if I wasn't happy I could have my money back or exchange it for something else, or they said I could try another one and see how I got on. I personally didn't suggest opening them until I found one I was happy with as I appreciate they wouldn't be able to sell them then.
I'm happy with my new one though and I'm really glad I exchanged it.

I took 2 back to tesco both within 48hrs, both suffering screen lift, my 3rd has it ever so slightly, less than 0.25mm but as it's in a case it hasn't got any worse so I'm happy to live with it as is.
So yes take it back as it is a known fault.

I will be going in for a replacement tommorrow, I just hope that they will accept it. Like I said before, the screen lift is not very apparent however it is there. If the staff disagree and kick up a fuss that there is no screen lift or the screen lift has no negitive effects then what's the best course of action?
Since buying the N7 and discovering it had screen lift + chipped bezel I don't have the satisfaction of it being "mine",really wanted to flash roms and experiment but the confusion in returning it or not kept me stock :crying: . The N7 I have does not have any light bleed, ghosting and I'm pretty sure the colours of the screen are normal. Should I check this on my replacement N7 when I get it?
Also I'm looking at a N7 starting with C90 right?
Another thought is getting a refund and saving up for a 32gb nexus 10 . Also A N10 would cost me around £200 extra . I initaily went with a nexus7 as it was cheap for the high specs, In my budget and as it is my first android device & tablet allows me to learn & tinker with it with no regret compared to a almost half grand N10. I have also heard on here that many users downsized from a 10" to a 7" . Could anyone shed their opinion?
P.s: I have attached some images
I'm returing mine for black lines , the only thing is I can't find the warranty card . Do I need it ?

I'm so shocked that Google hasn't stepped in to improve the quality on the 32 gig models after all the problems with the 8 and 16. I love Google products but quality must come first not quantity. I used to work for Sony and this would've been totally unacceptable.
Return it and open the replacement right in the store and continue to do that until you get a good one.
Return it right away. The more tablets that get returned because of this "screen lift" the better. Maybe next time they will not repeat the same mistake.

Just an update
Went in and was able to get a replacement N7, Checked this one in the store and it had pretty much no screen lift apart from a very very very slight lift from the left towards the bottom. We also checked another one inc a display model and they were much worse. I also went snooping in various shops to look at the N7 and all of them had some sort of screen lift.
Overall I'm quite happy with the new one, my only complaint is that there is a small amount of backlight bleeding in the bottom left corner if the brightness is set at 100%. If the brightness is on auto or below 50% you cannot really see it unless you are actively looking for it.
I've heard much worse issues with the N7 so I'm happy with this one. Am I right the LED's are only located on the left side of the tablet?
I'd return it again. I've returned 3 and my newest is flawless. there are good units out there, you will find one!

Build quality issue on my p6800 or opened casing?

Hi guys, I've had my new toy for a couple of days, flashed ics rom and root is running like a dream... And I'm really pleased. A step up from my last tab 8.9. However I noticed that at the top left corner there is a tiny bit of play (movement) between the screen and the aluminium casing (if I press down on the screen) . I'm talking maybe 0.5mm or less... But the other corners are solid. Also if I press the casing just below the g of the Samsung logo, pushing the casing against the screen, then there is also a tiny bit of play there too. Is this common? Or could my "used like new" purchase from Amazon have had a screen or battery replaced?
Otherwise the condition is perfect so I should probably shut up and stop complaining!!

P.S Would be helpful to hear from anyone who has actually opened up their tablet, as I am thinking this is what has happened.... Many thanks!!
I've definitely got this too on mine which I bought brand new about a month ago. Bottom right hand corner clicks when pressed, doesn't bother me much but should be covered under warranty. For the record I've dropped mine a few times, nothing major but could explain the problem.

Wow. We have the same issue. Lower right hand corner. There's clicking when I press hard.

This is a common problem, something to do with the clip design and it is on all 4 corners. Even after you have fixed it, it will come back in due time so I stop thinking about it.
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing the same issue with my tab, albeit a bit worse -- there is a slight screen lift at the left side near the SIM slot. It doesn't bother me that much but considering that this is a premium device, I would've expected better quality...
