using app store in US(and other? - Bada Software Development

Samsung wave 3 8600.......saw no section for Q&A sorry
I sort of wanted to buy this phone, wasn't sure if it will work on t-mobile USA sim card?
I heard that tizen will merge with bada and that will be the end of bada OS?
I here that it will happen and others say it won't
so is this phone dead already or is this just a rumor?
I can't access the app store here in the US(on PC) and wasn't sure if their is any way to get it to work?
Is the battery life actually more efficient than android?
saw that it is relatively easy to port apps to bada with the sdk?
heard about version 3.0 and was confused
I got lot's of questions and well the accelometer on my exhibit 2 4G broke so......
so is it a good phone?

What i am more interested in is a bada rom on our android devices, is bada open source ?
yes bada is opensource...
I have a general question. If a mobile OS is open source like Android and Bada, does that mean things like drivers for the antenna and important system level files are subject to being altered? Beyond just device stability, can you alter a device to crash, do harm, or infest the cell network its hooked up to? What about altering the antenna to broadcast and receive prohibited signals that screw with important communications systems? Basically I was just wondering how far you could go with an open source OS and if any dangers like these existed. I guess this would also apply to Linux on a computer as well?
actually, Samsung Wave is very similar to the Galaxy... And BadaOS is based on Linux like Android, so i although thought a port should be not that great deal... but it seems that no developer are interested in Samsungs Wave.
yeah its very similar, might be ported soon
for the next apps for android in samsung s8500 is possible, with the ROM share and security, that enbales to install better safety and good measures for all its use. The use of openoffice with new device that can make more faster, compliant and user friendly.

Yup
Tis a shame

New section: BadaOS

I propose creating new section about Bada Operating system
So far is only one device: Samsung Wave [s8500] but next two will be avaible in november.
Samsung made 'Bada Cup', so we can also win 300,000 USD
I hope, that we create a lot of good aplications

Are there any developers out there that are already or plan to hack around with Bada OS?
I think that it should great idea, Few users are browsing this section of forum.
Adding it will take second and I think, that users want creating on this platform will be find. Software on bada is creating in C++ and is familiar to Android, also on Linux code. On page Samsung we can find SDK for developers.
Sorry for mistakes, but English isn't my basic english.
EDIT:
Samsung Wave is selling in 40 countries so soon will be more people interess this platform
My wave is coming tomorrow, but I'm already searching for customization. A new section dedicated to Bada OS would be great as I didn't find much information on the net about this new platform.
Android on wave
I have got my wave s8500. it will will be cool to install android 2.2 on it. Has any one found how to remove samsung bada os and install android on it ?
anyway its a cool phone.
So, here is some people, which want section dedicated BadaOS. Please make it, because this page is the best support for phones in the internet. Samsung wants create more smartphones with BadaOS, so here should appear more interesed people this platform. If we will support BadaOS, I'm sure more people will choose with this platform because now it is new platform, and people worry about support of this.
I hope we will consider positively my request.
Sorry for my English.
VirtualVassi
ya ya even i need a section for bada OS....its a high end platform for games and applications so it would be great to hack it .
I would give a thumbs up for this suggestion Btw, where to go to get a Bada developer? Need to hire one if you are going to enter the competition
my invitation to our agreement with a new section just for BADA OS ........ for my samsung gt-s8500 ....
Bada OS
I also support the idea of having an own section for bada .
Samsung S8500 for the way .
+1 Count me in.
I'm writing something about BadaOS and Mac OS X compatibility but decided not to continue. It's just not mac friendly.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Samsung Wave, speed and screen, for its price, its already a good phone.
I bought it knowing that it will not work with MAC, I just hoped that there was at least Google wireless sync. Good thing I can easily fire up boot camp and use Windows, but...
Samsung Kies, is not that easy to use. Took me hours to make it work under Windows 7. All drivers installed but won't connect to Kies. The only way to make Kies detect the Wave is format the sdcard, then I'm good to go in synchronizing my contacts. Needed to export my contacts from Google then to Kies then to Wave.
Haven't tried my calender entries as I leave that to my HTC Desire.
So to those planning to get the wave, its a great phone as I said, super AMOLED, 1GHz, 720p video recording, great camera app to name a few, but....
Don't expect that it will work with your mac (even windows) out of the box.

So for now, we're not going to have a section for BadaOS or the Wave. Reasons:
1. There's only one device that supports it and we haven't heard from Samsung on whether there will be more
2. The development story is unknown
If either of the above changes, we'll certainly reconsider. We have to be selective when adding new devices to XDA because the site is already packed.

Source: Engadget (I'm not yet allowed to post links, so i can't link you the exact site )
if only it wasnt so BADa
Samsung has announced two bada phone:
1.s5220 (wave 2)
2.s5330 (wave 2 pro)
both of them have bada and both coming in august so s8500 is not alone
And what do you mean by "The development story is unknown"?
Thanks
Hi
+1 for a Bada dedicated section.
Two more Bada phones should be out soon by Samsung and I think the root for development is in C++, which is more complicated than simple Java programing, but, from what I've red on it, really rock solid and fast.
I have to add that this forum is my n°1 source of information for my mobile and I'm waiting my Wave to arrive soon.
Have a good day
Bada
Sold my good old HD and have now a Samsung Wave.
Looking for themes, apps, android and other cooked ROMs.
Yes, a Bada Section would be great.
i have samsung wave and i hope it will be supported by xda
I would also like to see some development besides the Samsung appstore. Cause it's fun!

[Q] Rooting other than model R800i

I have a AT&T Xperia Play R800AT and was wondering if the R800i Root method works on the Canadian R800A model? What build are you guys on? I'm very anxious to Root mine with the R800i method but was wondering if it's build specific? Thanks!
If you try I would try the gingerbreak method as it's more universal then using a unlocked bootloader and flash some firmware.
yep gingerbreak v1.2 works great did it to mine first day i got it
Hey thatsupnow - what did you do once rooted? Are you running Cyanogen? If so, how well does it work?
I've never installed modded android before, though I've jailbroken plenty of iPhones in my day:
1) Will my purchased stuff transfer over if I purchased it before Cyanogen? (
2) Does anyone know if PS Classics work on Cyanogen?
3) Should I even bother with Cyanogen, or just root my Xperia Play and be done with it?
4) What can I do once I'm rooted that I can't do pre-root?
Total, noob, I know. Thanks for any advice!

I've come from the Apple Scene as well so I'm pretty much new to this and only flashed a couple of android devices so far.
1) Samsung Vibrant
2) Samsung Galaxy Tab
3) Flytab (generic 7" ipad 1.6 android)
Whatever you purchase in the Android Market, As long as you login using the same google account you made the purchase with previously just like iTunes you can re-download your purchases for free. You can also browse the APK folder on your device and backup your .apk files if u wish as well.
Cynogen is a custom rom that tweaks a android device with better options and customization. To my knowledge I don't think you should flash the device right now since there is no "cooked roms" specifically for the Xperia Play at the moment. The android OS is pretty much universal on lots of platforms but just like any OS it needs specific drivers built into it in order for it to talk to your device and run correctly.
Think of Windows for example, in order for your new Graphics card you bought at the store to display properly on your PC you would have to install the device drivers first in order for it to work properly. If you don't you will experience vast side effects like only 256 colors 640-680 resolution etc.
In this case Android is like windows and "fragmented" because there are lots of IBM compatible PC's in the market today each with it's own different graphics cards, cd-rom/dvd and media etc. This is why Apple IOS mobile devices can see faster updates because they only have to develop for minimal devices.
I just picked up a Dell Streak 7 from my coworker that i've been toying with. It's definitely faster than my Galaxy Tab but I'm hoping in due time Dell or a awesome DEV will port Honeycomb 3.0 onto it. Reading threads people are saying maybe looking into the Motorola Xoom will help develop for the Dell since it uses the same Tegra 2 processor but again just like the above I mentioned, it's a whole different animal besides the Tegra and needs specific drivers. Look at the Nook Color with Honeycomb. I'm amazed at how well it's working but it still needs some work to be polished.
So yeah man, just root the phone and chill for the time being. Thats what I did for the moment although I would like to change a few things. Have you tried any home launchers yet and have you found a way to switch to Edge? I'm always on 3G and it would be nice to switch to EDGE so i'll have more battery life for games.

[Q] Hate to ask here...

But I haven't found development for this device yet...
http://www.junipersys.com/Juniper-Systems/products/Archer-Field-PC/Specifications
After looking this thing over I see it might be a good candidate for an Android build, plus the bonuses of SD and CF slots up top.
Won't need bluetooth or WiFi just yet as they are not built into the device.
I ask because I have been sitting on one for almost 2 years, unused... and I have come to hate WinMo...
BTW: List price was $2,499.00 USD 2 years ago, but it is a very use-specific device... hence the pricetag
What in the hell is that, a phone or a carpenter tool?...

It is a very very rare device, so don't expect development for it almost... never. Sorry, there are many "normal" devices that don't get development at all, and this one very strange. Devs don't have that, so they can't develop for it.
wow it has an rs232 port
Believe me, if I had any knowledge of how they get WinMo on this thing (update files come in .bin format), I would be ALL OVER this thing. As it sits I can use it as a real-time OBDII scan tool for cars, a data logger, and various other programs made for WinMo Professional, including all the Office Mobile apps (already installed).
I do have a .bin update file with another .txt document for update instructions, but these are useless since my only other OS is currently Natty Narwahl (Ubuntu) and I have 'almost' no clue what I'm doing with it. I say "almost" because I used to code in SCO Xenix, so I'm no "noob", just too old...lol.

LOL! Glad someone remembers what those are...
Stop me if I'm wrong....probably am but here goes.
With this being an old WinMo device (i use the term old loosely here ) and based on an X scale processor, it may be worth looking into the AndrOmnia dev site at sourceforge. I'm positive it wont be"just that simple" but they did have a booting Android OS (1.5) on a WinMo device (actually, it ran from the SD card). The project has obviously been abandoned but maybe it would prove insightful...or maybe not.
That,i think, would be the best place to start looking for info. Also, out might be prudent to check the legacy forums here and scope out the Omnia II android project as it would have similar (but more up to date) info on the topic of Android on WinMo.
Hope this helps you in some way!

Do not miss any steps follow close and pause video if needed
heres the link
A play store fix is provided which is helpful but installation of it is not properly stated in video and caused me to fail first time
corrections are stated below:
download es file manager, once downloaded remember to mount system as writable at bottom in settings of application
also download s3market files provided, i have never used other file provided for calender etc it has no use in mtk6575 versions of the device
store s3market on root of sdcard
copy files within one by one, not together to system location shown
install the com.android.vending-3.5.16.apk file provided in s3market.
fix permissions in properties of files shown
then reboot device
what i have corrected in the procedure will fix the stopped unexpectedly error 100% if done correctly in mtk6575 phones of this device
I'm curious, how do these phones compare to the real thing? I gave up on clone phones after receiving a very bad quality ciphone 09..
Visually Stunning, Functionally a failure...
Be Warned, the HDC Galaxy S3 especially from fastcardtech are not worth the money and mental anguish to get the thing rooted. They come with Gingerbread, and Locked, and full of Chinese Apps. Once you free of that, the Google Sync is limited, so you cannot get your mail, calender, etc synced. Then there is Colonel Zap which is mysteriously the only person in the world prone to be able to root these devices, but be warned again. Only unless you specifically know your Chipset in your phone, MT6577 or 6575, good luck with that, you should be wary of rooting per Col Zap, as in my case, there process bricked one of my two phones from FastCardTech. And don't get me going on FastCardTech, they are complete B.S., takes over a month to accomplish anything, then they send you the lesser model than you pay for. Doesn't matter all the FREE CRAP you will be offered with this phone, doesn't make up for the fact that is is just a great looking shell with poor electronics inside.
Look these phones are from CHINA, the specs offered online are fiction, and are burnt into the kernel of the phone,so it only appears that you are getting what it states online. you are only getting a phone capable of meager performance, NO 4g, 3g, but at lower speeds if your are lucky enough to fit the Mobile Frequency Spectrum the phone runs in, being their made in China, not a U.S. friendly phone in that aspect. Wi-fi is spotty, and the software is crap, bottom line you get what you pay for, and not many resources to get you through the hard times. Good Luck.....!! At least it looks like the real thing you can show off to your friends while they laugh at you.....
Specs do not match and support is very poor
I bought the "Ultimate pro" version from FastcardTech.com (as a new member i am not allowed to post the link) and it does not meet the specs given by them. The GPS took about 2 hours outside to determine my position. After a factory defaults reset i could not find the strength to do this again
The CPU is not the 6577, but the slower 6575. The camera quality is very poor. The wifi signal is very, very weak. (i have a very good and strong router) The sound quality of a phone call is poor. The 'gsm sound' disturbes the conversation all the time, as if you are to close to a speaker. When you complain to FCT, don't expect any customer support. They give to most strange answers and can give no specific support what so ever. After some time, they say i can return the phone, but it's allmost impossible to meet their requirements, so i am pretty sure that when the have it back, i will never hear from them again. (just read the customer feedback on any honest site)
Including tax, shipping and insurance, i paid about 250 euo's for this phone.
If i had known this all on time, i would not have bought it.
But on the other hand, the responsiveness and quality of the screen is good. Gaming goes smooth and after countless factory defaults, i have managed to turn off most Chinise apps, without losing the nice 'Samsung startscreen'.
All together is not such a bad phone after all, but its not what i counted on in the first place.
Now i am curious about if there will be any tweaks possible. Rooting, custom firmware etc...
I am willing to help if possible.
Kind regards,
Coupedevil

Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. It's disappointing to read how unprofessional some of these shops are It's one thing when they mess up the specs on pre-release products but this shouldn't happen with a phone that has been available for so long. Looks to me like they simply sent the wrong phone to begin with. Their lack of knowledge of even FCE-level English makes it so much worse
I'm looking at chinastore-online to get the Jiayu G2+. The shop at least claims some customer-friendly terms, but so far I've yet to hear from anyone who made a purchase there.
So hang on you've bought an obvious Chinese knock off and your surprised to find its crap? If your interested I can do you a great price on some magic beans (cash or bank transfer only).

I have this galaxy s3 mt6575 clone, same as in the pictures in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1921178
I also had troubles getting the gps to work and started to think it didnt work at all.
But lately I have managed to get some gps signal to work.
I did flash the cwm recovery and have now installed the Lewa rom for it.
google "LeWa For Samsung Galaxy S3 MTK6575" to find the rom if you want to try.
Not sure if it was that rom that made the gps work or not, because I also did install an app named GPS Booster, as well as the u-center gps test app, and the GPS Test app.
Now I get enaugh signal to get my position. But the antenna is weak I think, so I need to be outdoor and have clear weather and clear view to the sky to get it to work. I did not test it in the car yet, but I think it might be to weak to work reliably inside the car.
i just bought the MTK6577 (s3 mimic)
and i want to change his rom (its already rooted)
what rom will work at this device?
