hello all! - Droid Incredible General

Well last night I cracked the screen on my Droid X, So this morning I woke up and realized that I had to buy a new phone.
I went searching the xda Forums for a phone that still had active Development going for it, but a phone that wasn't too expensive. SOOOOOOOOo I decided on the Droid Incredible! (found one in new condition for $95) I'm very impressed with the STILL active development on the DInc, Considering the Droid X is Newer, and development tapered off well before last Christmas... There hasn't been a good rom released for the X in MONTHS!
I'm not new by any means to the rooted/Rom'd community, and I'm more than Positive that I can share a lot of good input.
So if any dev's need help/testers, etc, LET ME KNOW!
So tell me guys - What rom/kernal tweaks/themes/radio mods should I start with?
Theres TOO many for me to decide on my own!
Thanks!

CM7 with incredikernel.
Or if you want it to be a little fancy with less tweaking and work involved, go MIUI and incrediknerel.
ICS is available, but doesn't run as well as the GB ROM's do.

Yeah I'm not too crazy about ICS myself, Is everything working on CM7 for the DInc?
How about performance? FC's or laggy scrolling?
Because on the X we never had Camera, Gps, Etc., and The only way to get past laggy scrolling was to OC/OV, which still Killed your battery in half a day lol
and then on CM9 We had some crazy bugs like being stuck in landscape mode which I CANNOT STAND
Thanks for the Starting point though!

everything will work. you can even undervolt, i usually make it ~16 hours on the stock battery

Welcome! I think you'll find that the X and Dinc are two entirely different experiences haha many of those issues you mentioned on the X are non-existent for most roms here.

Yeah, as I'm reading thru the forum posts, I'm starting to realize this lol.
To start with, the X had a Locked Kernal, which is probably the reason why the development tapered off so fast

With little/moderate/heavy use?
For my X to last that long, I would literally have to turn off GPS, Wifi, Data, Background data, Auto sync, etc lol
Basically what I'm saying is that I'm very impressed with everything I'm reading about the Incredible

If you are thinking about CM7 and want a more stable, smoother, more optimized ROM for Dinc, and also don't want the hassles of chasing nightlies, try "inc-deck-gingerbread."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119857
It's a CM7 clone... that is better than the official one from CM. The only real difference, as far as features, is that inc-deck comes with a vanilla launcher, instead of ADW launcher like CM has. Just install the launcher of your choice, if you don't want vanilla. I like Go launcher EX.
Incredikernel is what I use also.
mods (ones that I remember at least)
ext4 for all... normal data version
v6 supercharger... balanced

the inc is about a 1000x's better for hacking then all verizon motorola phones combined. lol. and give the latest cm7 nightly a try with the newest incredikernel. i can link you to ext4 mods, v6 supercharger and adrenalyne shot too.

Thanks for all the input guys, I've been learning a lot from these posts!
I used v6 Supercharger for a while with my X, but stopped using it because I never stayed on 1 rom for more than a couple days at a time and got so sick of setting it up every day lol.
I could just never find a rom that I could settle with because they all had their problems...
So other than OC/UV, what else are the benefits from IncrediKernal?
Also, My phone hasn't arrived yet, So I don't know which version of android or HBoot is on it yet, But is there anything In specific that I need to look for or that I need to know before I start to root?
And, with the X, We had what we called an "SBF", which basically was an un-brick for our phones. If our phones ever bricked or bootlooped after flashing anything, we just plugged our phones into the computer, booted into recovery mode, and "SBF'ed" back to stock. And basically, our phones went right back to stock, unrooted, bloated Froyo or Gingerbread, and we had a 2.3.340 file for Froyo that we could flash, and a 2.3.602 Gingerbread File.
So is there anything like that the Dinc?
Thanks again guys!
This is the kind of community that I was wishing the DX community was, and now I'm glad I'm gonna be apart of the Dinc Forums!

well, its REALLY REALLY and i stress REALLLLLLLY hard to brick an incredible. the only way i know of is pulling battery while flashing radios or double flashing them. most stuff is recoverable via a RUU. ive never had to use one personally, because i dont ever mess with radios. but here is the website where all the hboots, sbf's and stuff are found.

I must say we have been a tight knit community since release date. Also:
Droid X: SBF = Droid Incredible: RUU

lmao I can already tell you guys are gonna be a great group to work with, expect to hear A LOT from me
Thanks for the insight on the whole SBF/RUU deal
I'm familiar with ADB from my first two android phones, but NEVER used ADB once with my DX, so I'm a little rusty. Should I be worried about setting up my SDK and what not before I get my phone just to get it out of the way? or no?
Also, I was reading about Downgrading to S-off, and obviously I don't know what version of Android is on my Incredible until I get it, but is downgrading completely necessary for Root/Rom?
I'm guessing you guys also flash .zip's thru clockwork or rom manager?
I briefly had a samsung Fascinate that used Voodoo recovery instead of clockwork, Is why I ask.

Agreed, CM7 with incredikernel. Stable & rock solid, so many customizations available. Tried out just about every ROM after getting bored of CM7, and always end up coming back before days end. Nothing better for this phone in my opinion.

You dont really need the whole sdk, just adb, fastboot, and their drivers. You can pick that up here http://dinc.does-it.net/ADB/ADB-Fastboot-USB-Drivers_v4_(x86)(x64).zip. And here http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install is how to install the drivers if you dony already know.
You can get root and flash roms without being s-off, however you cant flash radios, hboots, or splash screens. I would highly recomend to do it anyways, as it makes your phone much easier to troubleshoot and fix if it were to break somehow in the future. It also makes it much easier to reroot should you need to do an ruu or somehow loose root.
Yes roms and mods are flashed thru cwm (prefered) or amon ra recovery, and ruus, hboots, radios, splash screens, and recoveries thru hboot.

I hear ya! I'm contemplating delaying my upgrade until late summer to see how things develop. All these upcoming phones have excellent specs minus battery capacity so I need to see what changes my mind. Not to mention, I've been checking out various other forums (GNex and Rezound) and many users just seem more argumentative and blatantly rude. I guess that comes with the increased user base.

not a fan of the gnex community myself. The dinc people I know there rarely post.
Anyway. Love cm7 and I flashed cm 6.1 on my Inc using boot manager just for nostalgia tonight. Cm6.1 was my first custom ROM ever.

Sweet thanks for all the input guys! All these links and info definitely help and are making my life a whole lot easier lol
The only reason I didnt buy a newer phone is because I'm so sick of the big ass screens and what not on them, that was one of the main things I hated about my DX. But, I'm enjoying the community here and I don't even have the phone yet lol, it should be here tomorrow I can't wait!
So tell me, is there any bugs on CM7 that you've found? Or is it perfect? What's your favorite tweaks? Do you guys have unthrottle mods? And Voltages/ frequencys are your over clocks at? Do you prefer setcpu/quick clock/rom toolbox, etc?
Thanks again guys

The only thing that doesn't work in cm7 that I'd wish worked is 720p video. I can live without. To set voltage, most use an app called incredicontrol. Overclocking is built into cm7. Iamtheonetheycallneo has a flashable voltage script, that lowers the voltages for the high and low voltage part of the frequency.

[Q] Why should I root?

Hey everyone,
I have the EVO 4g, and I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to consider rooting. The risks are a little scary as I would rather not get pooched and have to pay out the butt if something were to happen to my phone. So.. I'm wondering, should I root?
What are the benefits?
What is the best ROM in your opinion? Best for battery and function (meaning, I don't want to have to turn everything off for 30 hours of battery life). I'm currently using Launcher Pro Plus and I love it. Just wondering what my options are and what the XDA community thinks.
Why root.

Rooting now is very simple, it is no longer a complicated process that will take you 30min. I was in the same mind frame as you before I rooted, but I have to tell you that it was a great thing for me. After seeing the difference between my phone (stock HTC EVO) and my friends rooted EVO (running CM6) I was blown away. Rooting basically gives you complete control to customize you phone. I then rooted my phone and went straight to CM6 (Cyanogen Mod 6). It is fast and has quite a few options that you just cant get without rooting. There are quite a few apps out there that are only available to the rooted phone. I also was not a big fan of sense, or the huge boat load of apps that Sprint had installed on my phone and was able to get rid of them when rooting. The only advice I can really give to you is to explore the XDA Forums, see the benefits of each ROM, and all the words that you dont know, find the definitions for and things will make more sense. There is a lot of nomenclature here. I am currently running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS1. It is a sense based ROM with a different theme. I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for your response!
I have a couple of questions for you (or anyone else willing to answer):
1) I know rooting voids the warranty, but does unrooting make the warranty functional again? Can they tell that it's been rooted before?
2) I've been reading around and I've seen people simply go to unrevoked on their EVO, then root that way within a few minutes. I've also seen people connect it to their computer, install drivers, etc. Which is best? Are they the same basic principle, but one doesn't take as long?
3) I've been looking at Myn's TPT and I really like it. But I'm wondering how many hours I could get out of the battery using that rom. I'm also wondering what the best way to update that rom (when an update is released) is?
Thanks again! I look forward to getting the ball rolling and getting all the awesome features that my phone should include in the original pricetag!

Rooting with unrevoked is just a simple way of rooting. All the commands are entered for your automatically rather than manually using a comand prompt to flash images etc.
Alright, I did it. Used unrEVOked, and so far so good. I'm sticking with stock 2.2 for now until I can do enough research on quality ROM's.
I do have an additional question though..
I purchased SetCPU, but I've noticed that I can't "overclock" above 998mhz. Why is that? Isn't the processor a 1ghz? I wouldn't really consider that overclocking :-/
How do I get pass that so I can actually overclock it a little?

Only certain kernels allow you to overclock. Most custom ROMs come with custom kernels that allow you to overclock. You can also flash different kernels over a custom ROM. Just make sure that particular kernel is compatible with the ROM you are using.

Wireless tether is enough of a reason to root for me. Try Ava. If you like Sense, you will love Ava. You will notice it is MUCH faster.

Just got this phone...

Ok so I just got this phone (coming from a DInc), just wondering what ROM is the best one out there. I am already rooted and have clockwork installed, now itching to put a ROM on and get rid of Bing lol.
Did you flash Clockwork in Odin? You can't do it from ROM Manager on this phone.
JT's super clean is a safe bet. Blackhole is another popular one.
Correct you need to flash it through odin ie clockwork. I have used alot of roms so far but I like the black hole build you're own. Many options and the recent v1.4.1 is really nice. Sonsofskywalker is a great dev and keeps up on his stuff.

Also check or geekniks stupid fast kernel 1.2.3 you can use many other phones boot animations.

Honestly Ive seen absolutely no improvement in using a custom rom vs launcherpro over stock. Your better off keeping it stock for now untill 2.2 comes out.
But if your even smarter you return the phone. Dont throw away the box, you like me might not be happy with it and get stuck with it. I dont think its actually the phone im unhappy with....but more android. Android has become a disapointment to me. An OS is only as good as the applications it has.
I was a 3 time Iphone user....then switch from att to verizon in Nov 2009 and have gone through a bunch of droid phones. On Verizon its the best choice. But when Windows phone 7 or Iphone hits next year many will be gone.
I know many of you guys will chew me up over this. But I gotta speak the truth,

Thanks for the advice on the ROMs guys I will download that one now
Also, is there anyway to get Bing completely off the phone? And what about when I hit the search button to be able to get directions like I could on my DInc.

Yes, there is a way to get Bing completely off. I will tell you if you just read the stickies at the top, you probably didn't need to post this.
If you have root access, which is easily done, you can then use install CWM. Once you do that, you can install jt's super clean rom. That'll take care of your issues.
If you don't like the way the current launcher you are using, install ADW or LauncherPro. I personally recommend ADW as it is open source and well developed.
But again, you should have posted this in the General forum. And you should have read the stickies before posting.
Can you imagine what this forum would be like if everyone who purchased a Fascinate posted saying exactly what you are saying???

My bad. I do have reading comprehension issues...
Anyways, depends on what you want, the good ones are already in ROM Manager to download when you feel like.
Sonofskywalker's ROM is neat in that it erases everything stock and leaves only what you want to leave in there.
JT's is simple and clean.
Deoxdexed is not bad, but it does come with a theme if you're into that.
I used "Super Dark" I really like the layout, but now all my haptic feeling in the phone is gone
Ok I got it working, I flashed the stock kernel to the phone... seems to be working properly right now

[ROM Q] What is the latest or best (in your opinion) MIUI Rom for the EVO?

Just as the Title asks. I've looked but some threads are really old. So what do you guys think?
Also, what is THIS lock screen!? It's awesome and I love it!!!!!
Thanks in advanced guys and gals!!! Another thing i was looking for was those backgrounds with those sexy girls wearing headphones and it looks all artsy and ****. cant find the plain backgrounds anywhere....
Well the most important thing to know: a new build gets released every Friday form the Chinese team, then a English team ports it to EVO usually over the weekend for a weekend release. So every week there's a new build.
Latest _English_Port_ is 1.14 ... but 1.21 just got released today (revs are by date) BUT the Chinese team found a bug and is supposed to be releasing a patch tomorrow. The MIUI team responsible for porting the weekly builds apparently already ported the 1.21 but isn't posting it as a official build yet as they are waiting to see what the original dev team is releasing as a patch first.
I would say the current 1.14 is easily the most stable build, the new 1.21 coming out has some UI changes, so it could actually introduce bugs, but only time will tell. Honestly though MIUI has come a long long way.
I really like MIUI rom but not having multitouch on the gingerbread keyboard kills it for me. Hopefully they can get it working soon.

This 1.7 seemed to run the best for me with the included kernel 1.14 had a lot of reboots. I loved the UI and the built in extras like the traffic monitor and the blacklist options but found it too unstable for me. I went to evervolv 2.3a15 and love it so far. Gps doesnt track as well as miui but its an apples oranges comparison. Basically if you can get a stable daily driver miui going on your evo then enjoy olit. The thread in the general section has a lot of believers for sure.
so far 1.14 has been the most stable for me, but myself and many others have been experiencing a problem where whoever we are talking to hears an echo of their voice. The devs are gonna try to work that out for the next build which should be awesome. I'd wait till the final of 1.21 is released.

Okay, so after looking over MIUI and the themes and lockscreen mods I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY RREEAALLLLYY WANT IT!!!!!
But...there's just one problem...
After looking over the directions, and the HBOOT S-OFF thing, nothing seems certain. So many different sites and threads say that some this way doesn't work, this way breaks your 4G, and I can not for the life of my find out how to simply just get MIUI on my flipping Evo! To be honest, from everything I've looked up so far it looks like a ****ing death trap. No joke.
And whats up with partial English? From what I've seen things look like they're in English. How much is still in Chinese?
Is there anyone out there that can show me (or tell me) a very direct way and not an "iffy" way of flashing MIUI. I have Clockwork and I don't know how to check to see if I have S-OFF. I got my Evo 4G the day it came out, so does that mean the way I rooted it back then turned S-OFF for me?
I thought S-OFF was only for people who got the new OTAs and couldn't root their Evos.
I'm sorry but MIUI ust confused the HELL out of me and I'm so willing to take a leap of faith because I want it so bad, but bricking or messing up my Evo ust isnt worth it. Help anyone?
My whole ROM is in english. I'm using the current stable release and it's the best ROM I've used after UD.
The one thing I noticed is that my 3G speeds seem to be slower. I'm on wifi a lot so it isn't too big if a deal but still annoying.

Well, if you have flashed a custom recovery(Clockwork), then I think you must have s-off. The easiest way to check your s-off status is to turn your phone off, then reboot by holding down power+volume-down. The phone will boot into the h-boot screen. At the top will be several pieces of info including your s-off or s-on status. Make sure you do not have any custom roms or other .zip files in the main directory on your sd card before you do this as the hboot will try to flash it when it detects it.
The very first post in the general forum has a lot of really good info as well. Another excellent helpful resource is the IRC channel for the Evo. The link is in the post.
S-off just means security off, by the way. You can't flash custom roms or other stuff until you have s-off.

Really?! All English!!?? Can you please send me a link to the ROM you're using. I think I saw at least three different MIUI threads in the ROM section and I don't know which one to choose. Link would be amazing!

Wow. That cleared up quite a bit! I'm pretty sure I have a few custom ROMs in the main directory of my SD but when I flashed HBOOT it didn't automatically do/flash anything. I checked and I had S-OFF, I guess it was obvious.
So MIUIs flash ust lke any other ROM...?
comment to ur comment earlier- the most up-to-date "stable" rom is always going to be the that they have stickied.

yes they just flash like a normal rom. But since they do release an update almost weekly, it would be hard to do a complete wipe everytime and titatium back up everything. so miui already has a Miui Backup program in it that will make changing to the next release go smoothly without much of a hassle.
I flashed the MIUI ROM last night and my phone rebooted on its own like a handful of times when I was sleeping. I kept hearing the vibrate sound and seeing the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen like when you first turn on the phone. NOT happy!!
I had the same thing happen to me I love the rom but that's why I went back to my warm rom

From Droid X to Fascinate

So, my son decided to throw my Droid X into his bath. Yup, goner. So now I own a Fascinate.
Whats the scoup on this phone guys? Tuff to mess with as far as ROM's and Themes? Yes, I plan on doing many long nights of regrading to "catch up" on this phone but thought id ask anyways.
I want to thank you all in advanced for the learning's of this phone I expect to get from this forum
Aaron
this thread has a nice run down of all customs and kernels currently available for the Fascinate.
I personally find Superclean and Blackhole to be the 2 best choices for a daily ROM at this point.
As far as kernels go, any of the source built kernels are great. Just pick the one that is best suited to your wants/needs
Things to keep an eye on are Kaoscinate and JT's ASOP build. Once these have a few more fixes they may very well be better than SC.
Keep in mind its rather tough to fully brick this phone but that's not to say that you can't create MAJOR headaches for yourself. Always make sure you are flashing something for the VERIZON Fascinate and not the Telus or i9000.
Make sure you download odin as well. Its saved me countless times from bricking my phone.

[RECOVERY] Updated ClockworkMod for ALL ROMs
As always, XDA members are amazing! Thanks guys. I actually odin'd to 2.2.3 last night (Debloated/Deodexed Froyo Leak+root+Froyo Clockworkmod).
Just need to learn where I can go from here.
Again, thanks guys!
I'm not totally sure which files you flashed but there's a good chance that Superclean/Blackhole use a newer leak and are a bit better. If you are happy with what you have so far however....
From here, you can try:
1. A custom kernel will allow you to use Backlight notification which is nice if you are used to having an LED. They also allow for undervolting and/or overclocking. Use a market app like BLN to control it once you have the kernel installed
2. There's a number of themes available though many of them are tied to Superclean and I'm not sure if they will run on any Touchwiz based leak.
3. Another thing to look into would be voodoo. The biggest thing in Voodoo is the "lagfix" which converts the filesystem from RFS to ext4 which gives a bit of a preformance boost. The custom kernels now have voodoo sound and color enhancements as well.
Made sure to "thank" you all.
Good stuff, but wow is this all different than my Droid X was. All new "lingo" and all. Oh well, I love to learn so we'll see how it goes.
Damn, my first issue. Did a backup without fail. However, im trying to flash a Kernal and when I get into Stock recovery I go to "apply sdcard:update.zip". Which use to get me into CWM. Now it wont, gives me the exclamation point. Interesting...
I suggest reflashing the new cwm posted by jt.

Welcome to the Fascinate! I went through the same learning curve, and love Superclean. Can't wait for more and hope that we don't lose too much with all these new phones coming out. But I'm loving the phone. How do you like it vs. the X?
Put the dx in a bag of dry rice for a couple of days might end up with 2 phones.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
For rooting, rims and themes. The DX was fun and easy. Fascinate seems simple to a degree...just a learning curve. Much lighter phone and the screen clarity is far better than the DX.
Tried the rice trick. Even put it in our temp chamber at my company and got every ounce if moisture out of the phone. You'd never know it was totally emerged in water.
Am I correct in saying the Fascinate Dev community usnt as strong as most newer phones?
It's been a bit slow here due to VZW dragging their feet on the 2.2 update and lack of source until recently.
However, we recently got the kernel source so stuff has been really picking up. We have a ton of new kernels that have dropped over the last week and I would expect to see something similar for ROMS when the full source releases.
We have a bunch of great devs and many who are working behind the scenes to get us CM6 and CM7. Maybe the quantity of releases is a bit less, but the quality is undoubtedly there. Also, typically devs here don't just release a ROM because it's been rethemed/reskinned as happens on some other phones. Here, they are released as themes which can be flashed on top of the actual ROM.
Oh and a full EC10 ROM released today. I haven't tried it yet but it looks promising.
Im thinking I would have to agree. I flashed nitsuj17's ginger rom last night. Its great. I have to say the screen on this Fascinate kills the Droid X by leaps and bounds. I ran a movie (megamind) last night on it. Having flashed voodoo...WOW!! Amazing clarity.
I'm for sure sold on this phone. And quality ROMS over quantity is so far a great way to approach this phone.
Thanks for your input.

Ripped it to about 800mb. Threw it on the SD card.
Also, check out Allshare (should be preinstalled on stock and Superclean). It's pretty damn neat to stream stuff off of your PC to your phone.

Munching popcorn from the Froyo seats

I havent GBed. I wont bother unless its Moto released and rootable. Why? All the "where is this app?", "where is that feature?", "Im loopin bootstrap!", and my personal favorite :"how do I get back to froyo? " ...just click ur heels Dorothy......
Don’t get me wrong, Im the happy beneficiary of rooted stock. And for the folks that are all about the phone geek thing knock urselves out, Im enjoyin the reads. But let's be honest,GB isn't a warm fuzzy balance of enhancements for time invested.
After couple of functionality tweeks like rooting for bloat reduction, Froyo is highly functional and solid. I personally have a limited amount of free time...which incidentally is maximized by my highly feature-laden rock solid DX...and while Iapplaud u bleeding edge cowboys, I'm gonna stay put...til Moto releases GB and somebody here gets it rooted.
just sayin...munch,ymunch,munch...

Technically with the locked bootloader everybody is running a Motorola released version. This new version of gb that was released was by an ota to a few phones. While not a full fledged update to gb it is very stable and reliable. I have been on it and have zero problems. All of my apps appeared. And no bootloops. The directions for everything that needs to be done are very well done and there is almost a zero percent chance of truly bricking your phone. And with sbf'ing and everything I had to do to get to gb it only took me about fifteen total minutes to get there. Enjoy your stable Froyo and popcorn and I will enjoy my stable Gingerbread.

What's the point? Why do you do things that you do? It's simply because this is a development forum for people who enjoy this stuff. We enjoy flashing things and learning all we can about this stuff. It is fun for us. The reason people have issues is almost 100% user error. That means that they forgot to do something. Or didn't fully download a file. Or did something in the wrong order. There's almost never a problem with the software provided to us. The files work, people just make mistakes

+1. With the locked bootloader and no way for people to try to flash the radio or kernel. It has made this phone nearly impossible to hard brick. I only know of one. Every other person has worked through there problems by the helpful people and guides on this and other forums. You stick around here long enough and you will be eating gingerbread instead of popcorn.
Edit: I should say no way to flash a custom kernel or custom radio.

While I share the philosophy of the OP (waiting for OTA and z4root-esque rooting), I don't agree that anyone should avoid applying GB. I did that sort of thing with my WinMo phone and if I felt the need to GB now, I absolutely would with no worries about the quality of the rom.
And with the potential for a long break without being rooted, I may just do that. I'm not up to speed with a lot of this, but will a root for the OTA be possible and will it take some time? I needs my AdFree, Tether and CacheCleaner.
I'm not trying to go against the tone of the thread here by saying this, but I have Gingerbread and am really not looking back. Stock Froyo was boring, everyone will agree with that. From there you had either ApeX or rubiX (or later Liberty). I ran all three actually and settled between Apex and rubiX Focused. Apex is/was good for battery life and overall stability. rubiX Focused is/was good for speed and stability, battery life was a bit less than Apex. But to me Gingerbread is the best of both worlds. 30-40 hour battery life PLUS the much improved (for most) Quadrant scores and overall speed and snappiness is like rubiX + ApeX. (video here)
I guess all I'm trying to say is that *when done properly*, if you flash from your favorite ROM to Gingerbread it's completely doable without any hitches or hangups. The thing to remember here is this: you're going from your favorite build/ROM/setup to something completely foreign. When I first flashed 2.3 (the most recent OTA, deodexed & rooted) there were some things I complained about. Then, with time and just playing around with it, I figured them out. I think most people are "having issues" with it because it's really that much of a change. It's not the jump from 2.2 to 2.2.1. It's a whole new setup, interface and all. I think it's the process that scares people, and that's understandable, but just remember.. it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to brick your phone. With SBF, you'd almost have to be trying to mess things ups. Find a decent guide and give it a shot. You can always flash back to your current setup.

Just a heads up, be careful with Wireless Tether on 2.3.. or even 2.2 if you're going over 5GB. People are saying that's being watched now.
I didn't really say "what's the point", I said the reward for time spent seemed dubious.....and I said I applaud the efforts and am the beneficiary of them. But damn there's lotta varying degrees of success. Part of my trouble is my PC's incompatibilty with the DX drivers that prevents me from sbfing....which seems like the safety net.
Buy beyond that I haven't read anything that puts GB so very much up the foodchain from froyo ....boring? Froyo is boring compared to GB how?
And zippy? My DX is very zippy...
Maybe Im not running enough stuff ;-)
I have to say, extended battery life has my eyebrow raised...that'd be welcome.
To be honest I was thinkin about loading the dx drivers on the DAW side of my dual boot XP box...down side is that boot is offline with no antivirus etc to maximize the resources for the studio ....don't wanna **** up a well-oiled machine....which brings me back to sittin in my chaise lounge on the sideline til GB is as easy as rooting &deodexing was.
Thx for the civil discourse.

I am definitely getting better battery life. The other day I calibrated my battery and had to wait for 1 day 13 hours and change before the thing finally died. Also if the drivers aren't working for you try this. http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html
just put it on a cd and go. It is linux. I haven't used it since my windows 7 64 bit system did the job for me just fine, but I have heard a really good response with this. Also, if you have any questions about it the guy is really good at answering them.
Since you are on stock....you are really in the perfect position to upgrade to gb the easiest. Root, Droid 2 Bootstrap, wipe, run the 3 files from tbh, wipe, and reboot. Off you go.
Just to note TBH has put out a rooted version of the GB leak....
I have blur_version.23588.p1 p2. And p3 plus the droid 2 bootstrap. So ur sayin I'm good to go from 2.2 rooted stock froyo up to GB without needing any sbf connection to my PC, right?
This is a good time for me to phuck around w the phone cuz Im off this week.
Couple of last questions :
I bought power amp...am I gonna lose it?
Does the camera settings issue mentioned recently apply to me on this load?
What does OTA stand for?
Can I get back to froyo 2.2 without sbf?
How many pecks in aa bushel?
Thx

1. No it will redownload after you flash
2. Yes. No idea why or how to fix
3. Over-the-air. It is an update sent directly to your phone from Verizon.
4. No. But SBF'ing is not difficult at all, it's just the idea that scares people and that people make stupid mistakes
5. I think two, or four maybe. But that is completely unrelated. Look it up

One distinction ...instructions here included "wipe", but the instructions from the modderX site did not mention wipe.
