I think it's very difficult because they have different hardware, different providers (one from HTC, one from Amazon), we only can port Rom when we have full source code and similar driver and kernel to make sure it can work.
P/s: the kitchen you used don't support kindle so you can't make Rom used it. Need edit updater-script manually.

Hmm... quit a big file there. You don't think that the kernel messed up while building it(its happened to me before. I think it got up to 700mb.)
Edit: just realized that its a .exe file, dope!
Maybe you should try putting one of our many kernels into it and seeing how that goes. It relys heavily on our kernel.

What kitchen can i use for Ubuntu that supports Kindle Fire? Or do i need to mount it and then copy everything into a folder with the name system and replace the /etc/firmware and /etc/init.d folders and the /usr/keylayout and /usr/keychars and change the libs then make a zip of it and then compile te boot img from Flyer replace Kernel and change the name in the ramdisk folder to xxx.omap4430.xxx of the files that now are called xxx.herring.xxx. then make a pdate script and does TWRP needs a special coe or just edify ?
Thank you

Oversized phone ? without the phone function ?

For starters I think you need to size down the ROM. The KF has 537MB /system and I can only assume that if the compressed ROM is ~500MB, then uncompressed it is going to be much, much higher.
You may be able to change the partition sizes to accommodate the larger size ROM. I was playing with a Sense port yesterday, based on the HTC Flyer, and ran into this problem. I may try to repartition it and see how it goes just for kicks.

I'm pretty sure a 7-10" Android device with no 3g, no SMS, data, no incoming/outgoing calls, is considered a tablet, not an oversized phone
You do realize that there is sense on tablets, right?

I decided to see why the port I was working on is causing TWRP to just loop and to do this I checked what DMESG had to say. It appears to be an Out of memory issue. My guess would be it is being caused when it attempts to load the update file.

ok, i commend the effort here but this just simply isnt going to work without TONS of code modifications and reverse engineering. just copying files isnt going to do it. there is a reason why you dont see htc sense ported non-htc phones often. its simply not worth the amount of work that has to be put in. not to mention you'll need an experienced kernel developer who knows his ****. i would suggest not wasting your time on this.

If you have windows installed you just boot to the ubuntu cd and go through the setup. It will give you the option to resize the drive to make a partition for Ubuntu. Pick a size and go through the install. Once it is done when you boot you will have the option to boot from Windows or Ubuntu. If I remember right it will default to Ubuntu if you don't make a choice within the defined time. You can edit Grub to change that. You can do this to change it to windows if you prefer http://www.hackourlife.com/change-default-boot-order-ubuntu-10-04-lucid/.

Full Featured Developer Script for ROMs - Need ideas for a name

I am currently work on a program/script to manage ROMs, and I will be releasing it initially for the Kindle Fire for beta testing. This will be a full featured program with the following :
- Compile ROMs from source
- Extract & zip ROMs
- Decompile/Compile APK and JAR files in the ROM (selective or the whole ROM at once)
- Unpack / repack kernel
- ROMs and devices each will have their own config file to store information specific to each, such as comments and status
- Much more planned, such as the ability to browse and edit files, search and compare, etc
The big advantage to this, and what prompted me to write this in the first place, is the ability to have all of the necessary tools in one place and better keep track of your ROM projects. As I was working on modifying or porting ROMs, a big headache was having to go to so many places to do different things to a ROM, which leaves files scattered all over your hard drive.
This will help keep everything more organized and the goal is to cut out manually having to do so much when it comes to basic tasks, and eventually even the more advanced tasks involved.
The initial release will be for Linux, but a Windows version will follow (minus the Linux specific features such as compile from source).
I have made some great progress on this already, and am close to a beta release.
So, what I need help on is a name for this. Here is what I have so far as choices, I welcome suggestions. Those that reply with suggestions for a name will be the first to receive beta versions to try out
- DEVROID
- [ARM] Android Rom Master
That is all I have so far, so please throw some good options my way.

This was originally just for the KF but most of this stuff is generic enough to work on other devices, so I will be adding functionality for multiple devices. So the name shouldn't be specific to the KF. I'm just offering it for the KF first.
When it was going to be KF specific I had "Kindle Inferno" in mind....
Now that would be a good name for a ROM !

Calling out to Devs

Was wondering if any of the devs here could possibly spend some time to develop for the a200 as it is similar to the a500?
Our boot loader is unlocked
We are rooted
And we have cwm.
Just need some custom rom love such as cm9,aokp and so on.
I am not a dev but have comp programming knowledge if you need any files from the a200 I would be happy to share.
What do you mean we have CWM??
Is there something I missed?
But I do agree, we need our own section along with some custom ROMs!!

I found it!!!
Flash CWM? Follow this link!
Well, creating your own simple roms isn't all that difficult. It's just hard to do when you don't have an a200 to test with. But the theory behind it is all the same.
If you guys want to try it yourself, let me know, and I'll share what I know about it. Seeing's you're already rooted and CWM installed, should be safe
I wouldn't mind having a deodexed rom. I would do it myself but not sure if I have the time with how much I work. Unless it's not that hard to do. I just can't wait until I can theme this device. Already have all the .png's ready...

Not sure about how to pull the boot image.
But the files from a "rooted" system dump would be great. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that earlier.
The issue, is that the root app they published, flashes the boot.image in 2 parts. And they're modified. This results in a modified boot.image in your tab when you run the root. Would be easier to have a complete modified image.
Well, never de-compiled and recompiled an image before, so will figure it out Maybe!
The rest, can probably be run from the install script as far as permissions and such.

Ok, just to update you, I sent out a test version this morning. Mainly to make sure I got the install-script right with permissions and stuff. No other changes other than removing the usual bad stuff.
If, and I say "if" it goes well, then I can proceed on stripping the heck outta it.
If not, I have an alternate plan.
Ok, need 1 or 2 of you people to try this install. All the bad stuff is taken out. At the worst, it will bootloop at start.
If it boots, check Su for write and re-write on the /system. Copy a file, see if it sticks. Then delete it.
Root explorer added to /data/app so check permissions.
Make sure you do your recovery backup first,
Then wipes and such like a normal rom.

[ROM][Beta] Everybody Rom

The idea behind this is that you download the rom and add tweaks to it and if its better than what I already have, that will replace the what's already up but remember it has to be based off of the orig. Once you have installed your tweaks/theme post a download link and sceenshots. I would like to have two different roms, one is ics based the other one is sense based.
[Edit] when you edit make sure you do not include miktweaks as i dont have permission to use that,if you do have miktweaks in there your rom will not be considered

First off I need to ask how you "Created" this ROM. What apks did you copy from where. what apks did you modify, how you modified them because we don't have much to go on. And also If you could upload your ROM to media fire or dev host or something and post PUBLICLY because the PM thing will end in failure.

HTC Desire V porting with Sense 4.0a. Anyone?

Hi guys,
I've just came across this new device for the Chinese market and here are the specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_v-4805.php
It has almost the same hardware as our old N1, above all NOTE that it has the same Adreno200 for graphics :good:
For now I have downloaded a European RUU (RUU_PRIMO_DS_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_1.59.401.1_Radio_1.05.34D.25_20.20.30.22U_release_263747_signed) for this Desire V (codenamed Primo?), and I have extracted the system.img.
Now to extract the content of that image I have to play with a Linux environment..
I've tried with unyaffs.exe but this image won't extract with that utility. I think the only solution is to "mount -o loop system.img" or something like that.
Do you think it's possible to do something?
Please remember that I'm only a cooker, with some (a little) experience, but with NO Java knowledge..

I'm up for that. I think if a lot of devs work together we can do it. I dunno about java experience

can you please upload the system.img file somewhere? (or post the link to the original RUU_PRIMO_DS_ICS_40A_HTC_Europe_1.59.401.1_Radio_1.05.34D.25_20.20.30.22U_release_263747_signed file )

Do we need 3.0 kernel ?

thanks..
i think shaky's Sense 4.0 alpha rom was based on Desire V dump.. dont know if it is worth the effort to start all over again...
Wait. It was based from One V rom. Not desire V

I agree with xeloni. Shaky was using the One V rom dump, which has the Adreno205 gpu!
The great thing of having a device with at least the same GPU is that we can have the right GPU files/drivers and maybe have a complete full gpu rendering. Obviously we gonna have to build a 3.0 kernel and proper cpu drivers...
Cmon dbasabe ! !
And shaky has almost finished thé kernel but he stopped all :/
After Imperzampemo, in this rom delete all useless appartement. Some ringtones. Fast and Light sense

i managed to extract system.img, it is 800mb after uncompressing...
one more thing, i couldn't extract the secure boot image. anyone know how to extract that?

Shaky has not stopped . He continues in silence and won't post on xda again. You better be following him on Twitter.
Also, dbasabe has left a long time ago

OK, but now the main thing is to extract all the content from system.img!
About boot_signed.img don't know yet.
Anyway I still have to install Linux on my pc, so I'm stuck as of now..

Does shaky have his twitter account protected?
Didn't realise he had quit xda until I read this. Another dev loss; reminds me of Medroid / Samuaz.

i managed to extract boot_secure.img also.. it had 256bytes of some security key on the beginning.. i had to tail it and then extract.
any way, after extracting, the system.img is more than 600mb.. we need to reduce it to less than 200mb to install to nexus one...
meanwhile im trying to boot with the kernel from the dump.. as of now, its not working.. kernel panic..
